I was rooting my arc without unlock bootloader, Can I install custom ROM if my arc ICS rooted only ( no unlock bootloader) ?

There are a few ROMs that work only with CWM and stock Kernel, but most need unlocked bootloader.
You can flash Stock-based ROMs with a locked bootloader.

Try with Mooded 90.1 or JJ's Hybrid Rom, are best of BL blocked
JJ hybrid is really nice

I have a similar question. I was able to install CMW recovery into my locked bootloader Arc S.
Does this means I can install custom roms using it? Or to flash custom roms I still need the unlocked bootloader?
Thanks.
Yes scandals if u installed cwm u can install few roms. You can install arconium, all versions of mooded,90.1 works very well, arconiu muiu,jj hybrid rom those are the ones i tested and i can verefy that they are working on a phone with locked bootloader.Make sure you follow the instructions or u will screw your phone and u will have to flash the original ICS rom

Is it a requirement of Custom ROMs to flash a Custom Kernal as well or can the stock Kernal be used. I'm using the latest Baseband that was supplied with the ICS update?

Yes, whenever you change ROM you should change the kernel as well. In the thread from the ROM it says which kernel you should use. For example for CyanogenMod you need to use the kernel provided. But there are also kernels which can be used for more than 1 ROM, like DoomKernel

The last time I flashed a custom ROM was on my X8 and it was stock all the way with the Kernal.
Does the boot loader need to be unlocked to flash a new Kernal?

OK. I think I'll stick as I am for now as I really want a vanilla ICS ROM with all hardware working, Software buttons and the hardware back, home & menu button disabled in Android but active in CWM.

It is not that hard to unlock the bootloader. It is way easier than it looks. And it gives you much more options to customize etc. It really recommend to unlock your bootloader

Could you explain how to unlock bootloader on arc lt15i
When I go into service menu it says bootloader unlock allowed: no
I know jinx13 does it for a fee but are there any other methods?
Thus would be really helpful as I want to use custom Roms but can't find any that work with stock firmware
Cheers
I don't know it when it says bootloader unlock allowed: no
But you can always look it up oj google. Your are probably not the first one with this problem

my friend read the following well and you will understand every thing
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133650
Why should I unlock my bootloader? Please be specific.
Sent from my R800i using XDA
Good question. Well unlocking your bootloader opens many opportunites, main one being you can flash custom kernels and then flash custom roms such as ICS and other roms that require unlocked bootloaders. Although you can flash custom roms on an unlocked bootloader, it's a lot longer and you can't flash kernels and therefore flash any roms that require custom kernels.
If you want to try custom roms, ICS and just experiment with your phone then go for it, otherwise just leave it. It's up to you really but since I unlocked mine I've never looked back...
Hope I helped
Are custom Rome and kernels better?

Simple answer, yes.
Yes. I when you overclock your phone you need a custom kernel to do that. Also a custom kernel is usually smoother then stock. Lastly, if you want ICS you need a custom kernel so.....

You want to know why you should unlock bootloader? Well here is a reason, Sony decided to scrap ICS for Xperia Play. While other Xperia devices get to have ICS.
Hi. I just got my Xperia S. It's cool and I want to keep it that way with DRM (in case of future reselling) So for now only locked bootloader. I have found some roms for locked BL, know how to root and probably install recovery. That's no problem. The point is, in Xperia P, we can flash kernels in zip in recovery (dunno if it requiers unlocked bl, tried only with unlocked). Do we have zip kernels here too? And if so, then is XS capable of flashing them on locked BL?
And is unlocking bl/rooting and applying tweaks profitable? Will I feel boost?

U can never change/flash kernels on locked bootloader, neither through cwm flashable zips nor fastboot..

Yes, you will lost this things and of course you will lost your warranty. If you are going to sell it you must say to buyer that your phone doesn't have warranty.

Same here; despite the tragically low amount of custom roms for Acro S caused I guess by its general popularity I do flash them and try to find the perfect one.

all the replies starts almost the same... reminds me of how the alcoholic gathers together: "hi, i am %username% and i am alcoholic"
and in here: "i am %username% and i have an unlocked bootloader\ubl\locked"
seems its pretty clear... mostly Xperia S/SL users seem to be interested...
once JB is released and the kernel sources are out I will be starting work on DooMKernel for the msm8660 devices...
Xperia S will be supported by default as i have the user donated device with me (last year the users donated the Xperia S to me)... i was planning to extend support to other Sony msm8660 devices (Xperia ION, Xperia Acro S)...
this poll was to get an idea about the userbase and willingness of users to install custom kernels...
i will wait till the end of this week before closing this thread...

I had already said that i installed CWM on locked bootloader (xperia SL LT26ii) !
Now will it be possible to unlock bootloader ?
Or Is it necessary to remove that installed cwm first and unlock the bootloader ?
thanks in advance !
