I'm using the email standard email app that's included on every rom. It eas working fine up until recently. I got what I thought was an email, but instead it was a message saying "login failed". I didn't change anything. I even tried clearing the data and cache

Do you know what your server uses or are you grasping at straws? Try asking your activesync exchange server administrator for the settings.

If none of the options you are using are connecting to the server then you are likely not using the correct server address.
try mail.*****.*** instead of *****.*** as the server.
Are you trying to set up hotmail? if so you have to do it manually . I can tell you how if that's what you're trying to do

try this..
go to add account, fill in your information (your email and password) then hit manual setup..
then on the next screen hit exchange
then on the next screen called ( account setup ) under domain ..you will have to fill it out to look like this ( \[email protected] )
then scroll down to server and fill it in to look like this ( m.email.com )
make sure use secure connection (ssl) is checked
then hit next
not sure if this will help.. this is how to manually set up an account

I have a strange issue. I've noticed this on my android phones in the past and now my incredible 2 and its really annnoying. For some reason it does not let me know half the time if I have a new gmail mail in my inbox.
I.use the stock gmail app and I have to go into the all, manually refresh, and then if will alert me of any gmail.
Case in point I had 4 emails sent last night and never got them till I went In and manually refreshed just now.
How can I fix this? It was working fine before and now nothing.

Open Gmail. Hit your settings button or menu botton. Hit the settings tab then you should see three options one being your email adress. Hit it and there should be your sync Gmail it will say on or off. Yours probably says off so turn it on.

It uses the default messaging interface as oppose to the Google voice interface, which is horrible. I like this app so far. Its helpful because I don't have a text messaging plan and only use Google voice for messaging.

Like the Idea, but not sure I trust an App that can monitor messages sent to/from my phone, and also can request authentication tokens from my google account... Or an App developed by someone that can not even provide a valid Developers website link.
Not a fan of 3rd party apps that require access to this type of information.
And if you Google the Developer "DreamBig, Inc" it's all about College related stuff...
It's been working as well as expected for me. Not too worried about privacy concerns. It uses Google services to access Voice and not your username and password. But thank goodness for the paranoid/careful.

yeah, but this isn't too important for me. The risk/reward factor is too high for me, for an unknown company to access my Google account, to do nothing really new for me. besides, I have unlimited texts.

It passedv the Google tests, but it's just not important to me, if you use gvoice exclusively, then maybe it's worth a shot.

Of it is a yahoo issue its a limitied issue. My wife has had yahoo on her phone for years and has yet to have any problems. Her phone is rooted as well. Or maybe its a yahoo issue with samsung software. She has never had a samsung phone.

It's a Samsung issue. I've been experiencing this on every Galaxy phone I've ever owned. On HTC phones it's never an issue. Just ignore it when it happens, it'll go away when the Samsung email server is done being retarded. Also if you click on the notification it'll ask you to enter your password again, just ignore it because you don't have to. Either don't click on the notification and clear it out or back out of the password section if you already clicked on it. Makes no sense to key it in because it's just going to fail again as the correct password was already set when it failed.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
My theory is that the Samsung email app is a bit too proactive in alerting about Yahoo sign in errors where other email apps do not. I get them too.
I also have k-9 mail and have noticed that when i have it set to check email at certain time frames and yet i get emails much after their time stamps sometimes. This is perhaps because it couldn't sign in to poll/check for email at the set time (for whatever reason, either on k-9 mail's part or Yahoo's servers) and so just waited for the next polling to retrieve emails.
I have the same issue and it is driving me crazy sometimes I feel like throwing the phone as far as I can cause I get the alert a lot. The thing that I do not understand is that it may not do it for a hrs or a day or so, but there are sometimes it is constantly going off everyone is still having this issue?
I use the Yahoo Mail app and have never had that come up in almost a year.
Try their app over the stock email app and see if that fixes.
Last night I rooted and flashed CM10.1 for the first time. All the apps were working fine until this morning when the Contacts app started crashing on every attempt to open it.
Has anyone else dealt with this issue before?
