Hello guys!,
i want to ask 1 question, do i need to unlock bootloader to root n flash custom rom? or i just can root n flash custom rom without unlock bootloader?
sorry for newbie question i came from galaxy ace section
dude you are not new to the forum...you have 50+ posts..so you should know that this is the General Section..Questions goes in Q&A Section..
Well the answer to your Q is YES and NO..
you do not need to unlock the bootloader to root and flash few custom ROMs..
but if want to have many options of ROM and custom Kernels then YES..you need to unlock the bootloader.. and unlocking bootloader is highly recommeneded..

No! For Ice Bean you don't need a unlocked bootloader. You only need root. I had it also on my phone before i unloicked my bootloader and it's the best rom for locked bootloader try it

to know which kernel your using got settings--->about
if your on stock rom and you have never flashed any kernel or rom then its the stock sony kernel.
if you want to slash the rom in link just follow the instructions on OP no need to unlock your bootloader for INSTALLING Custom ROM, you need to unlock it mostly for changing to custom kernel (there maybe other exploits to bypass DRM but i dont know of them)
Yep, but for a kernelchange u need unlocked bootloader.

you mean this ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2153905
Wouldn't it be good if you posted the same question in that thread ?
Anyways after having had a look, it seems the owner didn't mention that we need an unlocked bootloader,
In the first step in instructions he "recommends" ( not compulsory ) to flash another stock but deodexed rom. I see we can flash that rom on locked bootloader as well.
So in short, you don't need an unlocked bootloader.
:good:
Hi,
My bro owns Xperia M and wanted to install CWM / TWRP on it so he can flash custom ROM. I want to help him but I don't want to unlock it's bootloader. Can you please link me to threads where I can get CWM for locked bootloaders and flash rooted custom ROMs?
If this is not possible at all then please link me to bootloaders unlocking thread and kernel threads, I am just not willing to take risk as it is not my handset.
Thanks...

Hi, currently there is no CWM for locked bootloader, it is all for unlocked bootloaders. You will have to unlock the bootloader (you can find out how to do that if you search the forums) and then install a custom kernel (again, search the forums).

Good Luck mate! :victory:
So as the thread says, this is a single question: I've been a Cyanogenmod user for many years, and now that I have an Xperia ZL with locked bootloader, I want to know what options I have for custom roms. I've tried MIUI but haven't found other roms to try.
sorry ignore. wrong post
Also wondering this. Every time I try to flash omni or cm with twrp or philz for locked bootloaders my phone bricks and I need to recover it with xperia tools.
you need unlocked bootloader to install custom roms/kernels.

Locked bootloaders cannot flash ROMs which depend on a different kernel (such as Cyanogenmod). Bad luck for us, bro.

Yes, but which ROMs are there available for us, unfortunate locked bootloader users?

eXistenZ is nice. try looking in the "Xperia ZL Android Development" section. look at the titles of each thread. look for ones that start something like this:
[ROM][LB][UB]
simply put, it means its a rom ([ROM]) for locked bootloaders ([LB]} and unlocked bootloaders ([UB])
those are the ones you can use.
Thanks mate, I'll take a look
