I bought the phone second hand with the Tnz rom installed and it worked fine. I tried to flash CM9 with ODIN and it failed. I restored it and now I have no signal. Now I can't get ODIN to recognize the phone on either my desktop or laptop with any of my 3 data cables and when I try to flash a modem in CWM v5.0.2.7 (Using the .zip from the Wiki) it gets all the way to the end and then I get this message:
Code:
script aborted (no error messege) E:Error in /emmc/update-modem-EG30-FULL-CWM.zip
(Status 7)
Installayion aborted
I checked the zip with winrar both on on my computer and when it's on the phone and it checks out. At this point I'm out of ideas so any help would be greatly appreciated
Why not start over.
Download the EL26+CWM kenel [http://kernelrepo.chris41g.org/defa...Chris41g\ACS\ZIP&filename=EL26_StockACS5.zip], the EL29 modem [http://www.buildarom.com/E4GT/Modems/E4GT_Modem_EL29.zip] and something like Calkulin's stock rooted EL29 [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332837] Copy them to the SD card (on you computer) then put the SD card into the device, Flash the EL26+CWM. Use that CWM (EL26 one) to factory reset.
Then install the modem. Then the ROM. and see what happens.
Hope you didn't use ROM manager by the way - that's a BIG no no.
You might be in trouble.
Can you boot into download mode? If you can use EL29 oneclick to get back to stock.
Thank you both for your quick replies.
I was able to flash the kernel but when I tried to flash the modem I got the same error message. The 1-click recovery won't recognize my phone in download mode, just like ODIN.
I think I'm in trouble :crying:

Yeah u may have bricked....cm9 isn't an Odin type flash. Everytime someone says their PC won't recognize the phone they wind up bricked. Read through the how not to brick your phone thread in general and hopefully someone found a workaround.
Can you get into a cwm recovery even with volume up+power? Not the stock one, but a custom recovery without the android in the background.

Well shoot, guess its time to start digging....
Yes I can boot into CWM, that's what I was using to try and flash things.

If you made a nand, hope u did, try and flash that. If not then try a safe gb rom from your sd card. Can't be worse than what u have already.

I also have a similar problem. I have no signal and cannot get out of airplane mode.
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband Version: Unknown
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-SPH-D710.EG30-CL435734
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.EG30
Hardware Version: Unknown
I also flashed A Custom rom.
I have had some kind of luck playing around with the nv_data files using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264021
I browsed my EFS directory and created blank nv_data files with root explorer.
After the reboot I had empty signal bars come up at the top and my Baseband fields filed out with the correct version and with my IMEI back.
This however only lasted about a minute before I got a crossed out circle for the signal and I back to Unknown values for the versions.
I had my phone connected to the PC the whole time and I also noticed my PC was repeatedly making the sound that it recognized a usb device (samsung mobile modem diagnostic serial port, I believe) until the phone lost the bars and went back to Unknown values.
Now my pc won't even detect the samsung diagnostic modem at all.
Also when I try to go into Setting -> About phone -> Status, I get a force close of com.android.phone

what cm9 zip did you flash! what is the file name? did you get it from cyanogenmod.com?
I fixed my issue via tips from other threads
I odin flashed stock gingerbread
After boot, I was prompted for sprint update to FF18, which I let run while I was searching out FF18 modem.
Then Odin 1.85 flashed ff18 modem in phone slot with EFS clear & reboot checked
After reboot, signal bars were back & phone initiated activation
hope this helps someone else

I just had this same issue -- tried to flash a modem and booted back up and no service, unknown baseband version, etc etc. I thought I had bricked it, but I managed to nurse it back to health. Here's what I did:
Went to the recover from bad flash topic in Dev forum and flashed that (though it doesn't flash a modem)
Then flashed FH13 modem
Then flashed Blue Kuban ROM (which is based on FH13)
Then booted into that and I have signal and baseband is recognized as FH13
Baseband Hardware "Unknown" Fix
Just had this same problem, 30k ft. overview of issue; I was messing around with flashing NV-items in DFS and reset RF and must have loaded the wrong .ncf file or something, not sure, and ended up with the same problem. Baseband and hardware versions are "unknown". Tried your fix with fix bad flash topic in DEV and FH13 modem with blue kuban with no luck. Still unknown versions. When I review the cutany app with serial and read the model it is reading out: GT s5 670_EUR and this is the SPH-D7710 Galaxy S2 Epic Touch 4G. SO......umm...
I have tried:
- flashing a few other roms and modems. no luck
- tired editing the NV items. but can't get back into Diag mode. (may try above post.)
- reset the ##7886#
- wiped /efs and restored it.
- went to stock EK02 unrooted
- rooted and unrooted
-
Thoughts:
- maybe get the right firmware radio/ hardware and manually flash them (where to get them or what is it that i need?.)?
- edit the build.prop to get a different build that fits the model?
- some how trying to fix com.android.phone? not sure how it works?
- some how, wipe every thing on root? and start over? not sure this can happen?
- read-only error when trying to edit root dir, ? have adb
So in summary I need some direction asap!

I had a similar issue and finally fixed by first flashing the oldest working nandroid backup I had, then flashing stock sprint gingerbread (unrooted - as if I would be returning to a sprint store) using one click (available here on xda) which restores system to out of box state.
I had to switch out to different usb cable AND a different usb port to get comm port to be recognized. I also restored a QPST backup.
After reboot, baseband & IMEI were restored. Sprint prompted to install system update, which I believe corrected the other remaining glitches.
I then flashed FF18 and all is well now, except...
I did discover day or so later that usb charging port is going --- I suspect that may have contributed to the freaky disappearing baseband.
Perhaps a bad connection (yikes!) during one of my marathon flashing sessions.
Now having port replaced.

Sounds like you are heading in the right direction(s) for a possible fix.
You can't get into diag on some ROMs because you can't access them via the dialer and/or they are not there and/or supported.
What I'd do first is use one of sfhub's One-clicks and do a full reset. (I'd probably choose FF18 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721229).
One other thing I'd mention is to check the md5sum on EVERY download. Bad downloads are the cause of SO many issues.
Then, once it's back up 'Activate this phone' then try a update PRL and Update Profile.
Again this is what I would do. You could spend days trying to figure it out and not get the solution. But if you'd like to use your phone why not bite the bullet; do a full wipe and make sure your phone works as, well a phone.
Then add a safe CWM kernel (Agat 5.4 or rujelus22 1.8) via sfhub's Autoroot or Mobile Odin.
From there you can then mess with other ROMs, modems and kernels. Check out rwilco's repository for modems and kernels. He's done a great job of organizing and putting together CWM flashable zips, tars and One-Clicks
Good Luck!

Lol "during one of my marathon flashing sessions"!! started this journey at 4pm PST today.
Thus far>
- Back to stock unrooted applied all updates ota (wifi) at FF18 4.0.4b (IMM761.FF18)
- reviewed my anycut serial number still says 1. model GT-s5670_EUR with blank imei and s/n (this may have been from the bad NV flash in DFS?
- will try QPST restore my.qcn file,
HOW did you get into Diag mode? tried ##8778# with CP and ALL but QSPT still can not find my usb connection? so I can restore the qcn?
OH wow, was this flashed with an international version!? Looks like it.
You may need a jtag repair or replacement.
Did you try flashing with regular Odin - not the one click downloader - and checking the EFS clear option?
There is another one that someone mentioned but I can't recall what it was now that will force the NVDATA back to factory setting. I'll see if I can find it.
Thanks, been working on this one for almost 18hrs. Have a timer going. Might be a new record...I'm sure of it that the root of all evil here was DFS and the lack of programing literature, basically trial and error, just in this case more error then trial....
I spoke with a tech in the Sprint back repair center reaching out into the dark here for the lowest guy on the ladder, not much help, but just gave it a shot in the dark with all honesty, and technically they are not skilled to handle this kind of thing, they have manual programing ability with some internal portal software, but not Samsung hardware programing or chip Qualcomm tools. (not sure that is the issue here) basically said exchange it for a referb. Or find hardware firmware or something..Wasn't sure what to say....
So about to toss in a towel here, but, yes tried using different odin's and clearing efs. Also tried again to delete /esf and place /efs.bak with edited nv_data.bin etc.. from other topics. I have a back up of my nvf file from DFS demo. I just can't get to the port to flash it on CP mode, as it will not connect. I don't know were the files go within root to replace them manually?? Some how have a hunch that its a simple copy and paste or delete edit some where.
The wrong model no. is what is driving me off the wall, maybe though the phone usb with some other software (NVFlash? ANYONE know if that needs Daig mode of just a usb to root access? Also maybe ADB shell cp those specific modems and flash files for that EURO model?.humm..
(Thinking out-loud here, but I think it is possible to in theory to flash other phone model and have them working on different networks if the hardware provides it. Would be cool idea and ultimate hack to get the Mifi and clone it to E4gT or find a way to tape it to the back of your epic for $34.99 all you need is data to use SIP Droid and G voice for all voice and text and the SIP following you as long as your either on good wifi or a 3g data connection, not sure about 1x and SIP but if you lived in a good coverage area this would work great no more $100 bills, otherwise Boost Mobile for $15 a month for data Pay as you go using SIP..Cool Technology these days pretty soon there will be no more cell phone channels it will all be data..
That's about it for me, maybe one more hour of reading posts and googling for any other leads to fix this mess, other wise hale marry and turnover on the 20 yard line for this one man team.
Thanks to all that replied.

First Android phone and experience rooting, tried google'ing couldn't find anything. So hopefully someone where can help.
I rooted my phone previously and lost WiFi ... Everything else works perfectly except WiFi turns on, scans, can't find any networks and shuts off. Now I just want to go back to stock factory ROM until I can research another rooting method.
I used this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20956793 and get through the whole process but it stays on "Establishing Connection" then Odin just says "FAILED". Below is my info of the phone, could someone help me out here, either provide a link or another method... I haven't tried the 3 step process of restoring each kernel, rom and modem yet, as I'm not exactly sure how to do that ... Do I just pick "PDA" then load all three file in Odin at once, then start the process??

I followed this video exactly, and it worked fine.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vmEmheJnyg
Some things that can cause errors in odin if the video above doesnt work:
- Try a different micro usb cable
- Try a different usb port
- Try removing the sd card
- uninstall/reinstall the drivers
- Try removing the battery
One thing to note, if odin says pass but the phone doesn't reboot... pull the battery and power down, then boot into stock android recovery and wipe data/factory reset (this process is also shown in the video @ 6:15).
BTW ... If there is another Rooted ROM with working WiFi( and everything else ) then I'd be happy to try using Odin to get to that ROM instead of Stock. Really just need WiFi back for now.
Thanks again!

You're welcome, glad you got it taken care of.
I cannot get my phone to connect via CP mode. When I check my settings it says the baseband version is unknown. I am thinking maybe this is the problem? Wifi does work though. I have tried reflashing the rom and just the modem in both odin and cwm but it still says unknown. Hopefully there is a way to recover from this and get it reconnected but I am trying everything I can think of and search for and am coming up empty. Could really use some help here and really appreciate it.
R u on Stock TW or some kind of ROM? this happened to me after i installed KIES into my PC. If u did, just use the samsung usb drivers, not kies.

Phone Model: Sprint Epic 4g Touch SPH-D710
Roms I have tried: SPH-D710.EL29_CL852097_ROOTED, EL29_Rogue_ET-Stock-1.1.4, SPH-D710_GB27_1014481_Stock_Restore
Modems I have tried: EL29
Drivers: Samsung_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_phones_v1.5.14.0
It was working fine at one point and then stopped. Since then I have done a system restore on the computer, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers a number of times, flashed those different roms trying to get it back, tried to install the modem by CWM and Odin, did many factory resets, cleared data and cache 3x a bunch of times.
Phone will connect in AP mode or ALL (but only AP), CP mode won't connect. ##786# gives me "Modem Error: Modem exceptions occurs". When I go into about phone it says both Baseband version and Hardware version are unknown. I did not do a nand backup probably should have. I have been trying to read up on this but still haven't had any luck so am turning hear hopefully for help.
I also noticed when I enter the command to check MEID that it is blank. I really really hope there is some way to recover from this but hours and hours of searching hasn't lead me any closer to the solution.
I really need help I just can't get this fixed. I can flash whatever rom I want but baseband and hardware version remain unkown. I have tried re-partioning with pit file but if I do it alone it just resets the phone and if I do it with a rom it fails. I could really really use some help here please.

Have you tried a full restore One-click , say GB27) it will completely wipe all partitions and install the modem?

Yes I have tried dozens of times with lots of different roms and while it says writing modem it doesn't stick. I have tried flashing just the modem and still unkown. I have tried re-partion with pit file but it just rests the phone. When I try to flash with pit file and rom it fails.
Ok this is more than bizarre, I managed to fix it but have no idea how. I tried erasing EFS when I flashed a new rom but it failed so I used el29 one click thinking I needed a clean rom on it first and upon reboot it now has hardware and baseband version. But this is weird on the home screen on the bottom left in black text is:

SID MODE

Baseband Ver

Hi All
New to this forum...
I have a Hong Kong model Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7105 (N7105XXDLL5). I purchased this phone to use in Australia which i did successfully for over 5 months with no problems. I went to USA for 6 weeks on holiday which i just returned from a few days ago and whilst i was there i completed a QCN hack to try and get my Hong Kong model n7105 to use the 3g and 4g AT&T network in America. From what i figure it changes the Mhz of the phone to pick up the AT&T Frequency. This is the link i used to complete the hack = http://galaxynote2root.com/galaxy-n...3g4g-aws-bands-on-att-galaxy-note-2-sgh-i317/
I completed the hack but i was unsuccessful in acheiving AT&T 3 and 4g, did some reading after and found that my model n7105 doesnt support the 3g and 4g networks in the USA due to the physical limitations on the frequencies it can talk to. i did make a backup of my stock QCN file on my laptop which was great but my HDD failed in my laptop 2 days later. I lost all of my data including the stock QCN for my phone before i could revert the stock QCN file back on my phone.
I’m back in australia now and i am unable to see 3g and 4g networks. I have rebuilt the phone with the latest standard android OS and put all the settings back to factory default. But this still didn’t work and my phone still wont see 3/4g.
A mate of mine suggested using a custom Rom that matches my phone. So installed the Illusion t0lte. I got it all working and had my phone running on 3 and 4g for less than 3 minutes and now it will only run on edge 2.5g. I can see it flicking back and forth on the 3 and 4g network trying to register but then it just flops and falls over to the Edge network. I have checked all APN’s and preferred network mode set to LTE etc.
I Called my Service Provider and went over the APN's and settings but still couldn't get it working.
I put my brothers Sim card from his s4 from the same Service provider into my note 2 and got the same thing. Flicked onto the 3 and 4g networks back and forth then after a few minutes sits on Edge and wont go back to 3 or 4g. Thought it might be sim card issue but this ruled that out.
Can someone please help. I have worked on this for over 10 hours collectively and i still cant get it working.
If someone has the same n7105xxdl5 model from Hong Kong could they please Download and install the qpst software and follow the process in the link below to backup the stock qcn from the phone and then send it to me. It would be much appreciated

I checked My imei number by *#06# and it corresponds correctly with the back of the phone.
Mate of mine suggested i might have corrupt NV_data or efs? but this links in with the imei number doesnt it and my imei should be corrupt but it isnt?
either way I'm seriously lost and I'm in the process of purchasing a new phone as i cant work another week without 3/4g on my phone.
I'm considering paying someone so if anyone knows my exact problem and knows how to fix it im willing to pay you.
relax dude...im sure this is a minor issue....
what I would suggest you is
1. get ur EFS partition backed up (stores your IMEI and other radio related parameters.) use win EFS or some other...just Google it..and back up a copy to the cloud like dropbox so that if your pc crashes you won't be in trouble again as these are very important files..if they are damaged your phone will never work on any network...it will just be a Wi-Fi enabled iPod lol
2. backup your phone data
3. if you phone is rooted get some modems from here for Hong Kong http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2031575here
4.flash the modem and should reset all the frequency parameters etc etc...the thing is some regions work on different bands but the n7105 should work on most global bands of lte
try that and let me know

Thanks Dead soul.
To make sure I'm doing this correctly can you confirm that i connect to my phone using Odin and update my n7105 with the modem and csc files i downloaded from the link you gave me. If this is correct then I am stuck. I am trying to open up the Qualcomm USB settings to enable me to open the comm port so Odin can connect to my phone but for some reason when i type in *#7284# to my phone i am getting this error: "connection problem or invalid MMI code"
I am using JellyBam Rom. This was working fine when i was running the stock andriod OS. i know this because it worked for me in the past.
do you think this is an issue with my rom or possibly the code is different on JellyBAM? i tried searching for the differences for this code but was unable to find anything.
I believe once i get connected then i should be able to update the modem settings like you have advised.
Ok i figured out that you can just copy the zip to your phone and run the install from the boot.
I tried these three:
XXDMB2 (Australia / Optus) N7105XXDLL5_modem_OPS
XXALJ2 (Australia / Optus)
ZHALI5 (Hong Kong)
And this one got it working:
XXALJ2 (Australia / Optus)
Only issue im having now is i believe im only getting 3g speeds. I checked with speed checker and im getting around 6mbit. Telstra runs upto 42mbit.
It says "DC" on the signal. I havent seen that before but ive only just started using Jellybam so that could mean 4G/LTE also.
I am in a spot with 4g but its weak so this afternoon i will go into a 4g spot i know is strong and confirm if its working.
Nope that was premature.
I did what it always does...runs on 3 and 4g for 5 minutes and then switches back to egde or GSM.

ok try this assuming you have done the correct flashing etc etc
1. if you go to settings/more settings/ network mode. can you force it to run on WCDMA only for example?? this will force it to run only on 3G and let's see if it works if it works select the upper most I believe which is 4G/WCDMA/2G
2. if all fails I would say start afresh by flashing a stock ROM and note down the modem version before flashing stock... if after flashing stock if the modem version is still the same and your 4G isn't working flash another modem and see
this phone is somehow new and it doesn't have alot of dev support...the ROM devs just port other ROMs into it and sometimes mess up the modems...I'm just sticking with a rooted stock right now all these other ROMs are just not worth it for now.

Thanks again for your help Dead Soul.
Can you please elaborate on what you mean by the difference on my my modem version now and after i flash to stock ROM? I'm slightly confused. Shouldn't i just flash back to stock rom then try the modems i tried above?
Is there any way to confirm i have flashed the modems correct?
And also could you give me a brief overview on the steps i need to take to completely refresh my phone to stock.
Also sorry forgot to mention if i have my phone set to WCDMA/LTE only in the network modes and it will flicker between 3g an 4g constantly back and forth on my phone and it will drop out on signal for split seconds whilst it does this...So far it has been 5 minutes and i am getting 3 and 4g and speed test does verify this as i just received 11063kbps. But after a while i believe it will just drop out completely and wont come back...i will confirm soon.
Yep no reception at all now...

2. Note down your baseband version. this is your modem version you are running
on
3. after flashing your phone check your baseband if it's still the same or changed
now...
flash a stock ROM using Odin.I'm assuming you already know this. You can also flash a modem using Odin under "modem" section on Odin BUT YOU NEED TO BE VERY SURE THAT THE FILE IS FLASHABLE via Odin as most people post modem files only to be flashed via recovery.... but after flashing the stock first check if the problem is resolved if not then proceed with other modems
there is a modem list thread under SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE II N7105 ANDROID DEVELOPMENT on XDA but I believe most are flashed via recovery...so you have to find out to be sure
incase these modem files are supposed to be flashed via recovery then I'm sure the stock ROM probably isn't rooted by now when you flash it. so root it, and add a recovery of your choice I always prefer CWM recovery as I'm used to it then flash the modem of your choice but start with the modem meant for your country I'd available on to the phone and see. if still doesn't work flash others also check what frequency bands your country uses for LTE.... example if their is an American AT&T modem and you live in Hong Kong the band's are probably different so LTE may not work but example you live in UK/Australia/most African countries then the Hong Kong modem I'm sure would work as these are international but regardless LTE bands are abit tricky you may need to Google up for extra operator information ..so look at things in that angle as well
also back up your EFS if you haven't done so. VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT before you flash anything if it's corrupted and you don't have a backup you will NEVER be able to call/connect to the network

I tried a few different modems and checked if they flashed correctly by checking the "band version" as you advised me to do. This appears to have worked fine. The modem versions have changed to the flashed one correctly but no 3g or 4g still.
Looks like im going to have to Flash the firmware completely back to stock as you mentioned.
Few issues i need help with on this...
1. Where can i find the latest stock Rom?
2. im having an issue with getting my phone to run in recovery mode via USB to access via a com port in Odin. The JellyBAM Rom i used is failing to run the #*7492# code to bring up the recovery mode options... Dont quote me on that code, i did use the correct one when i tried it but the one i just mentioned might be wrong as im just basing it off memory at this time.
Any other way to flash back to stock rom without Odin?
i have rooted my phone

1. stock ROMs could be found here on XDA but latest stock ROMs probably you will get them at samfirmware.com or now called as sammobile.com just Google them up
2. I don't understand about getting a phone to recovery via USB....I don't think there any such thing maybe were you trying to say you cannot get your phone into DOWNLOAD MODE then it be detected by Odin? if yes,
to get your phone to download mode
1. shutdown your phone
2. press HOME (center button) + volume down + power button
3. a menu will come and may ask you to press volume up/down to continue or cancel...press the button corresponding to CONTINUE
4. your phone should now be in download mode. open up Odin..and connect your phone via USB cable .. you should see a yellow color box to show the phone is connected on Odin you can do a Google image search and see how this screen looks like
5. if your phone is not detected on Odin install Samsung USB drivers or if you have Samsung kies available close it and close all other services of Samsung kies running
as far as I know..most Samsung stock ROMs are flashed via Odin....and with regards to your #*7492# code I believe this will work in a Samsung stock firmware only if this code is related to the hidden submenu.... other than that I'm not sure

Then i have connected Odin which it seems to be working And in the screen shot below i have downloaded the Australia (Optus) Firmware from the samfirmware.com website which works on the same network frequencies as the one i use "telstra" so it should work with that. What i am confused with is, What option in Odin do i use to flash the firmware with the file i have downloaded below. Do i use re-partition (PIT)??? i have been told this can be risky so i thought i would ask you to make sure im doing the right thing first and then i started googling and you tubing and in most cases there is 3-4 files and they select BL, AP, CP, CSC for each file and flash the firmware that way, is this not the case for me?
Also another question is when i flash the firmware back to stock will it delete all of the files and folders from my phone? there is alot of crap on there atm because i have installed 3-4 different roms to test which one i liked in the past and its left alot of data on there. If not whats the best way to clean all of this data and start from scratch? if i delete it manually from my PC will it be deleting Files and folders i shouldnt be?

1. I have never used andromizer before so I can't tell... but what I could tell you to be on the safe side... if you backed up the EFS folder off the phone don't rename any file or folder. also when moving it back to the phone if planning to restore and in same location
2. perform EFS backed up with atleast one more or two more different tools.. such as EFS Pro or WIN EFS recover/backup Google them up..the reason to this is to be safer as what if your current back up is corrupt? how would know? or what if andromizerit fails to restore incase your phone got messed up? atleast you have multiple alternatives as EFS is very important especially with the N7105 as some ROMs tend to overwrite/destroy the current modems as most ROMs are ports from N7100 ..some devs may overlook this..it's up to you to take extra precautions
3. the .pit file is most effective if the repartition is checked to best of my knowledge but could be wrong. it responsible to direct the flashed files to which sections and portions of the phone will be flashed with the files on Odin its like a master schematic of some sort with specific memory addresses, sectors allocation sizes etc etc. Do NOT use repartition until you have exhausted all possible options for example flashing different ROMs, scripts etc etc... with the repartition it's as almost cleanly flashing it as from the manufacturing plant/factory and probably will loose all saved files
4. flashing through Odin in most cases you may loose data if you come from a custom ROM as the file system is different with Samsung stock ROMs
if you are worried about your data on the internal memory just copy them across to your pc flash your phone and copy them back across to ur phone...also you can manually delete the sdcard file contents and won't harm your phone you may just loose cached files for specific apps but will be recreated..BUT only sdcard directory not other directories should you attempt to delete
5. okay this I'm going to be frank I don't know much about the version of Odin you are using.... people tend to use the classic version version 1.8 it looks very basic... I tried the same Odin you screen shot above once and it just didn't feel right and ultimately didn't work and also I saw some post it screwed someone up..so I don't know. if you see someone on YouTube using it and had great explanation you can try else use the classic Odin
the classic Odin has 4 things basically (kinda)
1. .PIT file section - to put the pit file (no need for this at this time as per my explanation on PIT files)
2. PDA - the actual firmware/ROM normally ends with .tar.md5 file extension if you open/view it with Winrar/7zip you should see files/images like boot, recovery etc etc . it can be confusing as you may download the file as a .zip or .rar and think this is to be kept in the PDA section but actually you may need to extract it as the file to be selected for PDA ends with .tar.md5 and this is normally the largest file
3. PHONE - this is where you select your modem of choice...BE CAREFUL most modems posted here are meant to be flashed via recovery... so I'm not sure if you can flash them with Odin...ask the person who posts the modems on xda thread..however in most cases the PDA file above may already contain a modem for you and may not need to worry about this..infact if you view the contents of the PDA file/ROM you may find a foe/image called modern inside it..so it means the modem had been bundled with the ROM automatically
4. CSC - this is for some settings for the ROM hidden menus or some settings like infinite scroll...regional settings/tweaks etc etc..along those lines..it's not really important you can aswell ignore it
make sure you tick Auto-Reboot and F-Reset time if needed. and you are good to go

Phone Stats
Sprint Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710)
Cyanogenmod 10.2 (Stable)
Last ROM update flash was months ago, no issues
TWRP latest
Can not get into recovery
Can get into download mode (using HOME+VOL-DOWN+POWER)
Using Odin 3 (1.85)
Phone was sitting on table, just started boot looping.
Tried to flash (everything) - stock Sprint image, CM ROM, etc.
Odin fails when it gets to reading the PIT information.
I looked everywhere for a Sprint GS3 PIT file, only found one, but it was labeled "i710" (probably by accident) and did not work.
If anyone has or can dump an image of their partition information (PIT) I would be extremely grateful, and willing to compensate you, because I'm an Android developer and kinda need my phone =)
More information:
Yes drivers are all installed and working. Phone is recognized as usual on three different laptops.
Yes phone was charged at least over 80% when trying anything.
Yes, tried multiple cables and USB ports (esp. powered ones) - phone connects fine.
Brought it to Sprint - they actually tried to flash it for me (nice guys!) but the software denied b/c of the custom binary.
Yes, I read every post here/elsewhere containing the keywords "PIT", "S3", and "brick" - many solutions would work, except for the fact that Odin won't get past reading the PIT.
No, I didn't do anything dumb like flashing GSM, international, custom crap, or by checking "repartition" or anything like that.
Not using any custom kernel or anything else - only the recovery (TWRP) and ROM (CM10) are custom.
Even more information (yes, I'm desperate!):
I tried all methods I could find - literally days worth of searching - including reinstalling the drivers, installing drivers while in download mode, connecting from Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Linux (Ubuntu - Mint).
Tried flashing stock recovery.
Tried flashing stock Sprint/Samsung image.
Tried flashing various PIT files claiming to be Sprint SGS3.
I basically gave in and was going to buy a new phone, but the dude at Sprint even said "this is fixable - you just need that PIT file", so I'd like to give it one last try before calling it. The phone really has been good to me, otherwise.
Any help is greatly appreciated! If you read all of this, you're a saint =)

Thanks. That's real helpful. It's not my thread, it's a related one I found after I posted, and this info is still relevant.
I've thoroughly trashed my efs & nv items. Long story but basically, I went into dialer menu #*9090#, picked option #3 and, thinking I had multiple backups of everything, picked yes. Dumb? Yes.
My backups were on a hard drive that I'd replaced with an SSD and got lost during that replacement. I hadn't backed up the backups - only had the single copy now lost.
Phone will boot but now shows unknown baseband, borked IMEI. I can get into download mode and have TWRP recovery installed. WIFI works, I can easily get stuff on/off the device & access an ADB shell. It's rooted/stock UVALJ1.
I did find one backup, made using QPST (.qcn file), but in trying on two different PCs & a 32bit WinXP VM I cannot get the phone recognized by QPST (drivers installed, finds port, but "No phone".)
If someone can give me a TWRP backup of their efs I *think* that may get me fixed. I know that may contain your IMEI & if it fixes me but contains the wrong IMEI, that's fairly easy to fix, assuming all the posts on fixing that issue are accurate. I'm not trying to steal an IMEI, I'm trying to make my Note 2 usable as a phone again.

Flashing EFS from another device is not going to work.
Try to recover the IMEI using KIES emergency recovery. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261153
If this still does not work try flashing the UVALJ1 modem.

Can't seem to get KIES to connect - the most definitive result I got was a device not supported by KIES message after uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, making sure the phone is in the right mode etc. For the most part KIES just sits at connecting forever. This is the case with both the Note 2 and a Samsung Galaxy S4. KIES isn't exactly inspiring confidence it can magically restore my entire efs & all NV items...
Just to clarify, I can access recovery just fine - I can use Odin to flash to whatever albeit the bootloader is 4.3/Knox locked. I can flash modems, ROMS, etc and access ADB shell or whatever else I'd need to do with ADB. Can't seem to get KIES to work and as I understand it what you're telling me to do in KIES won't actually restore efs, it just resets it to a stock state and lets efs rebuild - assuming the NV items are still there, which they are not. I really hope I'm wrong and I'll have to come back here once I get KIES sorted out and tell you how silly I was for not believing you in the first place!
I did re-flash the modem using TWRP, no change there.
Here's the text of the warning I foolishly ignored:
Warning: Must read below guide
All Communication between AP/CP-
will be disconnected!
To return to normal mode,you
must download efs12.tar file!
All NV data will be erased!

This was in the ServiceMode menu accessed with dialer code *#9090# but now there isn't a menu there - just a blank screen that says ServiceMode at the top. Dialer code *#0011# produces the same result - no menu where there used to be one, just blank screen/ServiceMode. Based on that warning, this isn't something I expect KIES to fix - but as I said, I hope I'm wrong about that...
Tried KIES on another PC with same result - that was 2.x KIES.
I used Odin 3.09 to flash to T-Mobile stock rooted 4.3 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975560
Switching to KIES 3 got KIES talking to the phone. It says I'm on the current version of the firmware (because I am - it's what I just flashed with Odin.) If I go into Tools/Emergency nothing is listed. If I go into the second choice and enter the model number with the phone plugged in, it tells me it doesn't support firmware initialization. If I do it without the phone plugged in, it works and accepts the serial number from the phone. If I plug the phone in right after I've gotten past this point, KIES winds up going off into never never land a bit later after it tells me everything is going to be wiped and the phone will be put back to its initial state (which does sound somewhat promising.)
Its spawning this AdminDelegator process which seems to just be sitting doing nothing and the KIES window is shaded. I can close it but that's about the only interaction possible with it in this state - none of the menus work and it seems like it's waiting on something to be clicked maybe in the AdminDelegator process but that process has no window anyplace.
It's possible there is something useful buried in KIES but it's a horrible piece of software. They seem to be authoring it on at best 32bit Windows 7 and that's a stretch, I suspect they're still targeting 32bit XP. I'm on x64 Windows 8.1. I could rant much more but I'll leave it at that.
I'm going to keep working with it and see if I can get around how they've written it or I might just stick it in a 32bit XP VM and see if it's happy back in 2005, software-wise. <G>
I may wind up giving up and just getting another phone - I've already read up some on my options and the funny thing is, I still want a Note 2 - they can be had for more reasonable $ now than a year ago anyway...

Tried KIES on another PC with same result - that was 2.x KIES.
I used Odin 3.09 to flash to T-Mobile stock rooted 4.3 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975560

Did you verify the IMEI after this flash ?

Short answer: IMEI & baseband same as before the flash - both are "Unknown".
Prior to my messing with the dialer menu, everything was fine. I'd used Odin or TWRP recovery to flash a variety of different ROMs the last of which was the 4.3 we're talking about here and it was working. I'd used it for several days. Everything but screen mirroring worked without any problem and I had service - I read up on the screen mirroring problem and it sounded like getting the device to show "Official" might help so I tried to reset my flash counter which I did not do before going to 4.3. Flash counter wouldn't reset so I decided to go back as far as I could on modem/ROM and see if I could reset flash counter then. (I know my Knox flag is not fixable - I was just trying to change the flash counter.)
Using TWRP, I installed UVALJ1 modem & associated ROM, leaving the 4.3 Knox locked bootloader in place to see if that'd work. It did, it booted and I had service. I was actually playing with the menus to see if the old dialer code free unlock menu settings still seemed to work because someone had posted about needing to unlock - looked like the menus were still there for doing an unlock. In messing with the menus I picked the option that messed everything up and since doing that, no matter what I flash, IMEI & baseband are unknown.
Unless KIES rebuilds the entire radio - which it very well might based on it needing the correct model and then wanting a valid serial # - I think I need an efs restore to get the phone communicating with anything now.
One thing I just now did - using the free NV Items Reader Writer from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804117
On my Note 2 configured as "DM+Modem+ADB" in Qualcomm USB settings (the only of several dialer menus I know of that still actually exists & seems to work), I can see the modem & port in device manager. But the app cannot communicate with the phone. If I change nothing, unplug the Note 2, plug in my Galaxy S4 in "DM+Modem+ADB" mode, I see modem & ports pop up in device manager and now the app can communicate with the phone.
I'm afraid, based on the text of that warning and searching for what "AP" and "CP" are, that the phone isn't going to be able to communicate with much of anything until it gets its efs fixed. This test where I just swap phones seems to be comfirming that this phone isn't responding like it should. Basically my modem & the rest of the phone are disconnected right now - at least that's my understanding. If the modem really is disconnected then obviously trying to do something to fix it via the modem is never going to work. The KIES may work - if I can ever get it sorted out. Haven't yet tried it in a VM might do that right now...
Edit:
Got KIES3 & drivers working in Windows XP SP3 VM. KIES connects to phone but if I pick Tools/Firmware Upgrade with the phone connected it just says "SGH-T889 does not support initializing" and my only choice is "OK". If I go Tools/Firmware without the phone plugged in, I can enter the model # and then it asks for serial #. If I plug the phone in at the point it goes all the way to where it says it's downloading firmware and then same result as on Windows 8 - an AdminDelegator process gets started, KIES gets sort of dimmed like it's waiting on something and nothing ever happens. If I never connect the phone KIES goes through the downloading process then gets an error with options to send a message or cancel - no information about what the message is, what the error is - just I can send it, it won't contain personal information or I can cancel.
