Soo. I've been flashing ROM's for a while now, well I've gone through a Sanyo zip, a kyocera milano, a ghetto ass "Sawee Pad" that i cant do crap woth really, then i got my incredible and ive gone from cm7 v13 to cm9 Kangs, to Peter Alfonso's Pete_Inc_03_10_12, to few others. The thing is, I really like ICS, but everything I've flashed in some way or another was unstable and I dreaded installing apps or anything else for that matter. So I've been back to cm7 v13 for about a month now.. what's the best overall most stable ICS ROM out there for the incredible? I don't care about fancy schmancy customizations. I want something basic and very stable (or just super awesome thats stable) I would love to hear your opinions, pros/cons. I will be researching most of the night I'm sure. I use my Ding for a lot of things, gaming/movies/music/inet surfing.. just wanna flash a new ROM and wanting your opinions. Thanks

I am on cm9 unofficial. Its highly stable, at least for me and fast too. Am running stock kernel.
Hope it helps you.
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
If you keep the stock kernel, they are almost all stable. The different kernels will cause some phone to freeze when plugging and unplugging.
It's hard to keep it all straight but I believe you need a 3rd party video app to record video ( video cam illusions) in most ics roms. Build 38 and 39 of AOKP do not work on the dinc, both cm9's and the new abduction are really smooth. Just flash and enjoy, that's my motto.
Ah so that's why it didn't work. CM 7.2 is much, much quicker though.

Well after a few hours of reading, imma try and flash in-sensative minimalist sometime today. I know its not ICS, but it'll do. Imma keep reading and see what I come across, maybe ill try a different version of cm9 and see if I can find something more stable than what I had.

I've been using Hanger's Abduction for months now. Installed the latest last night and each release gets better. Everything seems to work for me (I don't use the video camera so I can't talk about that). Previous versions there was some hanging when unplugging from charger, and a few random quick reboots. So far so good on latest but it has only been 7 hours...

For all out stability without any misfeatures, CM7 w/ stock kernel. If an alternate kernel is stable for you, then great.
That said, invisiblek's ICS builds are getting there, but there's still some weirdness here and there.
I've heard that the latest evervolv ICS alpha is really nice, and they've got the video camera working -- I haven't tried it myself though. Videocam Illusions just records in MJPEG -- you've got to be desperate for ICS + videocam to want to use that.
Throwing my vote in for pures anthem ROM. Buttery smooth, fast, and stable. Oh, and pretty. only issue I have is that sometimes 3g disappears, and a restart is required to fix it.

I would love to be on ICS ROM as well...but I have some misgivings about it. Even if some ICS ROMs may be stable, from what I see, they are still slower and grab more battery then our GB ROMs. That's a deal breaker right there. I don't understand why people want ICS soooo badly on their Dinc if its gonna be like that. Stable is great...but its gonna hog more battery
I'm on the latest RC of CM7.2 with Chad/Tiny Incredikernel and couldn't be happier. Stable, Fast, and battery efficient.....
I have an extended battery and get the same or better. Dinc accessories are getting cheap on amazon. I can get about 18 he with 3hr + of screen on.

I agree with previous posts about ICS roms having poor battery life. From what I've tried, they do not have anywhere near as many features as cm7. If it is not possible for cm9 to run efficiently on the dinc I hope development on cm7 continues into the future. I run the latest cm7 nightly with incredikernal, v6 supercharger, kickass kernalizer, adrenaline shot and 3g turbocharger scripts. I also updated the radio to the new one in the general section. My phone has never performed better

Battery life is subjective and different people may have different capacity batteries at different points in their lifespan and different usage levels. I for one think it's decent, maybe not as good as cm7 but probably better than the galaxy nexus.
Oh and not to mention different screen types, AMOLED can drain faster than SLCD.
Which ICS rom is the most stable and has the most features working?
The CM9 nightly, well at least I believe so.

That's what I was leaning towards, thanks. I also am interested in the Touchwiz 5.1.2 rom and ParanoidAndroid, though the latter seems to not be ready yet (phone errors and fc'ing).
It's a little overwhelming coming in as a noob. I'm wanting to put some life back into my dinc.
Would the latest CM9 nightly be the best start? Anything I should know about? Is flashing a new kernel worth it, or should I stick with stock? So far I followed a guide here to get root, but I'm still S-On for now until I decide which rom to go with..then I plan on downgrading to get S-Off, flashing a rom, and updating my radio.

first thing first, get S-Off in your DInc .
idk the best start to try a rom, but maybe u can try an aosp GB which is CM7 or miui.
but if ur very interested in ICS UI then CM9 all the way. there is a lot of CM9 mod such as invisiblek's, abduction, kang's, and others, and there is also a combine cm9 + miui such as miui v4 ics.
its up to you which one u will pick, or ur gonna try them all (like me lol) just remember to make a nandroid backup.
happy flashing rom's

by the way, I was S-ON for a while, flashed an ICS rom, and had to go through ****s to get S-OFF. You can look near the end of scottys guide to see You can be as noob as possible, once u get CWM recovery, its as simple as putting the rom on your SD card, then going into recovery and selecting to flash it. I would recommend tiny's incredikernel HWA RC1

S-off'd and flashed the 7/5 cm9 nightly last night. Wow. Its like I have a new phone.
Couple things. Text input lags a bit. Anything to speed that up? Performance is pretty good overall but I feel like it could be better. Battery life seems to be on par with stock (buying an extended soon cause I'm still on the original battery). I also seem to be running a bit warmer than stock. Will a new kernel help?

Ok I need a recommendation for a stable Rom for my wife. I've moved on to the rezound and haven't been keeping up with the development for the incredible for a few months. She needs something super stable and good on battery. At the moment she's on ice cream sense and wants something new. Are any if the ics roms stable enough at the moment for a noob to run?

I personally recommend CM7.2 (RC3 released today) but as far as ICS goes, even though it doesn't have HWA, AOKP is probably the most stable i've seen so far for the inc.
Good Luck!

Had no idea RC3 was available, appreciate the notice.
CM7.2 is the way to go if you want stable, quick, and easy to use all in one. I have tried and used CM9 alpha and it is a damn fine rom. Everything worked for me that I use (never tried the camera) so my ICS vote goes to that. I prefer CM7.2 for my daily use cuz I had an issue or two with the ICS roms that I wasn't willing to compromise on.

I actually prefer CM9 to AOKP for HWA and overall appearance but AOKP has had a lot of the customization features that I look for in a ROM, I still use CM7.2 as my daily though because it has everything I want and has amazing battery performance.
I put miui on my girls inc a few months ago n she loves it. It's running nice too with tinys kernel n uv'ed. She gets good battery life. The themes I think is probably wat makes it nice for her, a lot of options.

Out of all of the ROMs that I've tried, Ice Cream Sense had the best battery life by far. I've been on Evervolv 2.2.0a2 with the latest Incredikernel beta (with HWA) for 24 hours now and while its not the greatest on battery life, its extremely smooth, fast, and stable. No random reboots as of yet. Definitely recommend it! Just my 2¢...
Update: battery life isn't really all that great with this new Evervolv. I'm still gonna give it a run for a bit and see how it works out. So far, so good... other than the battery.

As far as customization and looks go for her, I would go with Miui. Definitely throw tiny's kernel on there though as the battery life isn't the best, at least in my experience. Can't go wrong with CM7.2 as well!
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I tried miui but she didn't like it at all. So I flashed cm7 and she's happy again.

Not a huge sense fan (used to be). It feels sort of heavy to me. TSM UKB rocks, tho.
PA is way cool, but haven't really gotten over the learning curve yet.
I'll probably go back to CM7 at some point. The Reverend mentioned CCM7 1.5 with aero's .8 was a good build.
The nice thing about flashing constantly is that you learn about options that you never knew existed & often can find ways to make them work on other roms. The downside is that your wife gets pissed cause you're on the phone too much! :banghead:

All i really care about is a working camera and i don't really use fcc. So i'm on 07/30 aero jb ROM. Battery life is phenomenal and i haven't had any issues. I realize that camcorder & fcc doesn't work, but i'm fine with that. Aero's cm9 build worked great too, so i would recommend that for camcorder and FCC. I tried the latest sense based ICS roms and didn't care for them , but that just my opinion.
I loaded up a "final rom flash",even though I've said that a hundred times, I'm running cm9 with aeros .12 kernal without the adreno drivers cooked in. Instead I flashed the ics adreno 200 drivers, along with Google now, agps patch, and its probably my daily until jb gets a little more stable.this combo is solid on my phone. Although any of the ics roms are equal in my eyes in different respects , there all great lol
I've been using Skyraider Zeus for many months now and it has been great! Long battery life and really smooth. I used CM7.2 by CondemnedSoul before Skyraider and that rom is excellent as well
I tried ICS roms but I couldn't live with bugs. I like complete functionality

I didn't know if the adreno drivers that got put into aeros kernel were the same as the ics adreno 200, I really don't know what the difference was and that's what I wanted to see since I thought the other drivers were for jelly bean, I figured the ics ones would be better for ics, but I rarely have graphics issues. If you go CM10, don't go past the 9/17 nightly because all the ones past that are buggy. I get way better battery on CM10 than I ever did on stock ICS. Not sure why/how.
Is the el26 kernel still the norm for flashing jb roms? Its been awhile since i've flashed anything. Blu Kuban has been good to me. I figured I'd just make a nandroid and try some jb on this phone. Would restoring apps via titanium backup from ICS be okay going to JB? I guess I can always restore my nandroid at anytime anyways.

I've been flashing on FI03, no issues as of yet. Always safe to make a backup first.. haven't used Titianium lately, but i believe it is working correctly with JB since there are only a few changes between the two.
Cm10 9/20 is great
been using cm10s nightlys and everything is flawless except the battery doesn't report correctly. drops pretty quick if you leave your data on. im on the 9/20 build as a dd and i love it. definitely recommend a try
I am currently running AOSP JB on the CWM recovery and kernel that the ROM came with, I should be able to wipe and flash the Paranoidandroid ROM with no problems right?
I've been wondering about the differences between AOSP, CM10, and AOKP(JB). I've tried them all and they all run pretty much identical as in smoothness, quickness. The only difference I can see are the different settings you get with CM10 and AOKP (things like changing how toggles look, notification bar look, etc). But as far as battery life, signal, speeds.. I can't tell if there is anything different.
So my question is that do the different ROMs try to do anything in terms of increasing battery life or speed? (Battery Life is probably the most important factor for me) I don't really do any personalizations other than those already available on AOSP (alpha6.) So is it worthwhile to run any other ROM as my daily driver? Do they provide better battery life? Although I've ran all three, I obviously didn't use them identically so I can't say for sure they have the same battery life.
I've tried searching but I couldn't really find anything on this or maybe I didn't understand it. I'm kinda new to this. Been playing with these roms for 3-4 weeks now and I'm definitely liking JB over ICS.
mp6 these roms all have a similar base at the moment so yes they perform very similar. The best rom is the one that works best for you. I recently installed Codename yesterday and like it a lot so far. Working on tweaking it for better battery life at the moment. Getting rid of beautiful widgets and switching to inverted gapps seems to have helped so far today.

Your modem does not change but the kernel will. The one that comes with CM10.1 is a 3.xxx based kernel and is smooth. I'd recommend running the rom as is for a few days and see how you like it.
I agree with you Kenny, but what an amazing work! everything is fast & fluid, colors are vibrant and beautiful.. I have been hanging around Epic forums for more than a year and this is the first time I saw something like this! you really had put a lot of work behind this, well done :good:
Been lurking and playing for a while now...
First off, I'm really impressed with the work the developers do here! OMG, it's giving my Epic new life and more. My wife like my phone so much, she asked me to root hers and put JB on it!
That being said, there's really a lot of choices, and almost every ROM makes a good daily driver. The question is what your threshold is for having things you're willing to put up with to get the cool new features these ROMs provide.
Here's my experience in the last 4 months - I started with CM9, and while I really liked it, I had some issues where it seemed to run hot at times. I added all the build.prop tweaks for increasing battery life, and once the stable version came out, I was pretty stoked. After a couple of weeks, I tried CM10 nightlies (my current ROM, 2013-01-20. I LOVE it! I added the 4.2 gapps camera and Gallery to enhance it a bit).
I expected the worst, because I work with developers and the term "nightlies" is never something we show to the public. In reality, aside from some initial issues with rebooting on earlier builds, it's been awesome.
This past couple of weeks, I decided to check out the waters and tried CM 10.1, and ran it for over two weeks - even put it on my wife's phone. It was like buttah until it randomly rebooted in the middle of a business call. I figure, once it goes to nightlies, I'll try it out again. Still itching, I tried ParanoidAndroid 4.1.2, and also AOKP Alpha 4.2.1 build. Both builds were stable and pretty polished, but battery life was better with CM10 - at least for the time-being. If you like to have lots of control over how your phone looks and acts, you can't go wrong with either ROM. I went back to CM10 mostly because it runs everything, especially Dead Space, which I couldn't get to work on any other ROM.
So, there's not really a "best" - it depends on what you want, and can put up with if there are issues.
I need to update my wife's DInc 2 and was wondering if anyone has suggestions on a stable ROM. I don't have time to try a bunch out for her and am not familiar with the phone. she's not techy, so it needs to work, but stock is a little boring/laggy for her.
the main things she needs to work are camera (both), tether, and pretty decent battery life.
thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Thanks. I looked at viper a month ago and it looked great, but just like you said, crazy lag when I tried it. That's actually why I'm looking for something new.

Also, would you recommend a kernel with MIUI? I see you're the dev on that one. ; )

If you want stable but don't like stock, I would suggest cm7 (mrom) or the old gingerbread miui (though this may be harder to find unless someone still has it, try rom manager). Ics and jellybean can be iffy since we never got an official release and a proper kernel.

Miui v12.9 is stable with 0.7bfs kernel

Skyraider Zeus is also another stable rom
Condemned CM7.2

I say CM7 (even their latest nightly has a lot of customizations) or Skyraider Zeus (what I am currently running). Although ICS works really well - it has its glitches which could be frustrating for someone who doesn't want to deal with workarounds.
thanks for all the replies! I've got her on miui v4 for now. she likes the miui look and theme options. if she decides she doesn't like it, I'll probably go with cm7.

I'm currently back on Skyraider Zeus, and enjoying the stability and zippy response time, after trying various ICS Roms.
I do miss the HTC trace keyboard and the newer HTC mail app, though.

The gingerbread miui rom with aeroevans .7 kernel is nice as stated above. The only real feature missing that newer gingerbread roms have is swipe to dismiss notifications.

Good topic. After getting bored with Cm 7.2 stable, I'm using de-sensed Viper 1.3.1, but I thinking about trying MROM. This is my work phone and Viper doesn't play nice with the device administrator security settings.
I'll miss ICS, but I won't miss having to enter my password to answer a phone call!

+1 for Skyraider Zeus, got an iPhone and I gave my DI2 to my mom threw Skyraider on it because I didn't want to have to talk her through clearing data to make camera's work and I used it for two days while the new phone was in the mail and forgot why I stopped using it. One of the smoother/fast roms and the battery life is amazing. Easily double what I got on Viper's.

Agree with this. Although I've only tried CM7 because I'm all about battery life and stability. MROM does that and more. The UI is clean and everything is zippy. It really gets the most out of this phone. Who needs ICS or Jellybean when you have a kickass rom like this?

totally agree with you. I've had a droidx for a few years and have stuck with the gb roms the whole way. I've tried all the ics ones, but they all have their issues, even if it's just battery life. every once in awhile I even flash a froyo rom and love it...

MROM
Incredicontrol overclocked to 1.3GHz
Zeppelinrox's V6 Supercharger and Kick Ass Kernelizer scripts
Flawless functionality, battery life, and stability.
Theme it however you want.
Good luck with the phone! It's a good one that is overlooked.
-MROM on DInc2

I have run this rom with and without the scripts, I don't see much if any difference. You don't have to use those if you don't want to. And you don't need an app to overclock, it has that in settings. But you can use that to undervolt and change I/o's. As phonetool stated, this rom runs really well on this phone. Give it a shot.

I had been using DKStunna's Global 10.1 JB ROM build 3 as my DD for a few months and it was mostly stable. It would lag out once in a while I was managing apps, but it was pretty fast with the built-in Nova Launcher. I got tired of not having a working camcorder and since DKStunna broke his Vivow and ceased development I decided to switch to ChillyBean's ParanoidAndroid/PAC 2.19 ROM. So far it's been awesome! It has "inverted" GAPPS, Facebook, and some other core system apps, which I'm not a fan of, but it's supposedly something you can change. I have a working camcorder again (after a few tweaks), which is what I was looking for. It looks like ChillyBean broke his Vivow also so I don't know how much more development he'll be able to do, which is very sad. Anyway, I highly recommend the latest ParanoidAndroid.

You don't have to change anything for the inverted gapps. Just flash the normal ones instead. Then you never have the inverted ones to begin with.
