So tonight my Lumia 900 had developed a new and very annoying fault. If you press the top right corner of the screen it clicks, like a mouse button sound. It doesn't need to be a hard press and actually just holding the phone to my ear is enough to make it click. So when I'm in a call my phone is clicking away in my ear!!
Is this common? I've made a video which is uploading now, should be uploaded in 30 mins or so ( http://youtu.be/6m6ELdp4FZg ). I'll be taking it into Phones4u asap to get it looked at or replaced. Unfortunately it's just over 1 month old so I really have to hope there's some good customer service in place as I will be pretty unhappy if in one week I get this fault, have to lose my phone for a week or so for repair and have been told that it's obselete after just one month.

Mine does the same thing, though it's on the right side. I checked out a disassembly video and saw the way the display is held into the housing, very interesting.

I had the same problem on my white Lumia 900 and so I returned it to the store I bought it from (Harvey Norman) and they replaced it after making a phone call to someone.
I pointed out the clicking problem and the light bleeding from the capactive buttons. I asked to grab a cyan instead of white with no worries, and while I have the light bleeding again I don't have the clicking noise, and I hope I don't get it again.
I remember reading over at WPCentral that someone fixed their phones clicking by pressing down really hard onto the clicking area and it "snapped" back into place.
Mine does this too, but unfortunately I can't return it. I've poked around a bit under the microsim door, but I can't seem to figure out how to fix it.
I've just been into Phones4u who phoned head office and got an exchange authorised. Unfortunately I haven't got the box etc with me this weekend so can't get the exchange today, but I do have the authorisation code so on Weds afternoon I will get the handset replaced. There's no way I could keep this phone for the full 24 month contract if every phone call is marred with a loud click right up against my ear.
I think Nokia have dropped a ball on the quality of this model as I will be onto my 3rd handset in 6 weeks very soon. I really look after my phones with cases, covers and never drop them.
No clicks here. Still enjoying my first, pre-launch L900.

Mine has the clicking just in the right lower corner... but i can only feel it not hear it
I didn't have a clicking sound, but the lower bottom right corner was kind a loose
I wasn't getting any sound through the speakers, but the sound would come If I pressed the lower right, got it promptly exchanged with phones4U
So I decided to be bold and press the rod that holds the display in place, down. The clicking did stop so long as there was pressure on it, but it reverted to clicking again shortly after.
Might have it swapped out myself, depending on how annoying it gets.

Mine also has this problem in the top right. Though it's not a clicking sound, it's more of a creaking noise. Like old wooden floorboards.
So I took my screen out to see when the problem was (using this tutorial: http://allaboutwindowsphone.com/flow/item/14567_Lumia_900_dismantled_by_TechRe.php).
There are clips all around the screens housing that clips into the body of the phone. The clips on the top right where it makes the noise doesn't seem to snap in to the phone as snugly as the rest of the clips. It's almost like the clip on that side is too short or something.
So I used a little crazy glue and it fixed it for a day. Then the noise came right back. So I just left it as it is.
It's polycarbonate. Or, to be more generic, plastic. Plastic expands and contracts differently than other materials. As it cools, it can can also slightly warp. Some of these 0.001" imperfections can't be overcome by clips or pins. Its not going to change the way your phone works.
Next time, look for a phone machined from steel (aluminum also has some variability characteristics, but not as much as plastic. But don't expect reception to be very good.

It is, however, annoying. My Lumia 800 is perfect. No problems. The missus has it now. I have returned my Lumia 900 for a clicking sound and now my second Lumia has a soft clicking or perhaps creaking sound on the bottom right hand side, near where the search button is.
I had my handset replaced yesterday. I'll be keeping a close eye on any quality issue with this one, which is now my 3rd Lumia 900.

I have the same problem with mine, right corner has the creaking sound. Black Lumia 900, tried to get it replaced by calling AT&T customer support but they refused saying it is physical damage and is not covered under the 1year warranty. I will be going back to the store and talk with the manager as she told me call customer service to get it replaced. AT&T customer service was very rude and was blaming me for this problem with the phone. The phone has never been dropped and the screen is in perfect condition. AT&T and NOKIA needs to stand behind their products. This is my 2nd 900 in less than 60 days. I will never buy another Nokia phone if they do not replace this and will be dropping AT&T.

Also this handset has the purple screen bug, which my 1st and 2nd handset didn't have. Also this one doesn't want to automatically connect to my car's handsfree. Instead I have to go into the Bluetooth menu every time and connect.
I'm about 99% sure I'm done with the Lumia. I'll be calling Phones4U head office this week to see whether I can get a different phone altogether. This Nokia quality is just nowhere near good enough for the price. If I leave it, I know the screen will get worse very quickly, just like the last one.

Can't help with your creaking (haven't checked mine) but you may have to clear the old connected devices from your car's BT. Usually, you can only automatically connect two or three devices.

Mine also has the creaking, but it goes away if I try to physically slide the screen up into that corner. As far as the purple hue, as soon as you get your phone even before putting your Live ID, I would plug it into Zune and update it. The update from Nokia took care of the hue right away on mine.
I also got the speaker problem that someone mentioned, but i fixed it by slapping it against my thigh. I am taking it back and replacing it.
BTW, love the phone, but my gf calls it a joke. A good old fashioned knee slapper...lol
I've already plugged into Zune, there are no updates for my phone. It's my 3rd handset and I've now completely lost faith in the Nokia quality. I was really hoping the Nokia/MS flagship handset would be higher quality that this, but I can't hide my disappointment.

I have a strange issue with my touch pro2 which i have never seen before on any of my previous phones i.e. TYTNII / Vario II etc,
If i hold the phone horizontal to the eye then i can see a kind of heat / rainbow haze covering the middle of the screen apart from about a 1cm clear part going all around to the edge. So basically the middle part. You can only see this in certain light or looking closely with the phone titled horizontally to the eye. I have taken the screen protector off to ensure it is not this reflecting and it is still there with this removed.
I cant see that this is normal, the phone only gets used for the normal stuff like internet sharing, calls, music streaming etc.
any help appreciated before i give mobile phones direct or HTC a call.

it did disappear after a few days of it being there tho,

I had this with my axim 50v. It was caused by pressure on the touchscreen, in my case caused by the belt pouch i kept it in. It didn't do any damage and cleared up if the device was left for a while without anything pressing onto the screen.
If u keep the phone in ur pocket then try carrying it screen side out (ie, not towards ur body)
it looks as though there is some sort of air or moisture between the outer screen and the inner as if i press on a corner i can see the haze move. So looks as though somehow it has come off of something if that makes sense....
have now emailed HTC and will see what they come back with, left a voice mail and emailed mobilephonesdirect and heard nothing from them. Shame really as thought they were a good company. Always the same though good at taking the money never good at supporting, so true for a lot companies these days.

to me it really just looks like excessive area pressure over time, displacing the goo in the touchscreen. (at least i think there is goo in them seperating the sensing layers)
not been pressed against anything only in the belt clip it comes with. never had any of this with my previous phones and my kaiser is still ok 2 years after buying it. Seems a bit of a design flaw.
I had this problem with my Kaiser. Must be someting to do with the touch layer. Never fixed it as it was not a problem under normal light and when u see the phone in a normal angle. (Not to diss your problem report hehe)
It can really stand out in certain conditions, I will see what HTC say as I have emailed them the picture. Its and expensive item which something like this should not happen.
when you press the corner of the screen the haze/rainbow effect moves so it is definately something that has come away but underneath a few layers.

HTC's official response, this phone like my TYTnII has only been used in the belt clip and yet apparently this is my fault due to much pressure!?! Which of course is utter rubbish.

After sending my phone back to HTC they have repaired this within the warranty so free of charge, in fact they have sent me a new phone i think as all imei numbers have changed and rom is newer.
There was obviously something wrong with the phone for it to go like it did.
Awe, shoot. I was hoping the Touch Pro 2 to not have this problem. It is called the newton ring and virtually every HTC device gets this problem. It is INDEED a problem, and it even voids your warranty at time.

Are you saying that it does VOID your warranty. Mine started doing this and quickly has now covered all the screen but the edge all the way around. I am going to call repair center tomorrow and find out for sure.

HTC did replace the phone, in fact the one they sent out done the same thing within 4 weeks so i sent this one back as well. They repaired this one also, although they just replaced the screen this time. At present a few months down the line i have not had the newton ring back.
I wont be buying another HTC phone now based on the awful problems I have had with this TP2, i am now on my 3rd. I have had HTC phones for the past 6 years and never had an issue like this.
HTC have become very sloppy lately in quality when releasing phones. Hopefully this will change.
Argh. Mine just hit this 2 days ago. I've owned it since October.
It's almost a perfect rectangle with a 1cm border except for the bottom where it's maybe 2mm from the screen edge.
I'll be bringing it back to a Verizon store and hopefully they'll swap it out.

The "Wobble"
A lot of people seem to be complaining about their screen wobbling while tilted. Not sure why anyone is messing with it, but regardless, measurements have popped up. (typical guys, lol) My personal TP2 has ~3mm of freeplay. I personally, consider this acceptable. Others have reported as much as 9mm of freeplay. Its been said that HTC claims a little freeplay is normal. How much freeplay is normal to them, is unclear. From what i have gathered around this forum, is that others seem to consider exchanging it when its 5mm or more of movement. Ill keep everyone posted on this.

My device has 6 bright pixels. Barely noticeable due to such a hi-res screen. Not exactly "damage" but I see you included the screen "wobble" in your list.

Yea, im including anything that might be considered a hardware issue, that would more than likely cause the TP2 to stop working, or need a particular part replaced.
Never thought i would have to post here. .
so ive had pretty much the worst day of my life. I got hit by a car on my way to work at 530 in the morning. [I ride a bike, since work is a couple streets over]. I have road rashes all over my face, ear, and shoulder. I decided to call in to work, and instead, go to marching band rehearsal. [Still in high school, btw.].. At lunch, me and a couple friends went to CarlsJr. for some eats. and then drove back to the school. I got out of the car and just by fate, my Tmo TP2 fell, bounced off my leg and landed under the wheel. For some reason my friend pulled forward, and then all i heard around me was a crunch. My screen got curb stomped by his tire. I yelled and screamed. after he stopped i told him he ran it over. He, then, backed it up thinking he was still on top of it, and crunched it some more. So now he was parked on my poor, helpless phone. Had no choice but to tell him to roll off of it. She still works. The screen is still touch sensitive, but its cracked to hell. The plastic is cracked from top to bottom, and the top left quarter of the LCD is no more. just a black liquid crystals where color once fulfilled my heart..
well at least i have insurance on it. Will T-mobile replace my handset under the circumstances?

I would be demanding that this persons car insurance cover it, as it was ancillary to the wreck. INAL but it's certainly easy to argue that if he had not hit you, you would not have dropped your phone.
Did anyone hear anything about newton rings or overheat damage on the TP2 like it seems to happen quite often to TouchHD users?
I am a bit afraid of that as HTC seems to deny warranty coverage for that kind of defect and the TP2 uses the same hardware (to large parts).
If you have insurance then you can easily get if fixed right? At least, most insurances also cover repairs due to own faults.
in my experience with Tmo and there insurance..
in the US they use a company called "Assurian"
they insure the LINE that you have with tmobile.. so basically whatever phone you have on that number, is supposedly insured...
they also say no matter WHAT the reason they will cover the cost of the phone...if you drop it, get it wet... crack the screen..whatever...
BUT... this is what i recomend...
before you put a claim in, call tmobile OR assurian, and just cassually ask about how the insurance works...ask what they would cover.. ( chances are they will cover everything)
next they first try to help you fix the phone ( if it were software related issues) then they tell you you have a 100$ deductible and they will replace the phone for you... and pretty much mail you a new phone..
in my circumstance i had a SE p900 i paid $1000 for... when i plugged in the ear peice it broke the internal connector and it never was able to use the handset speaker during calls...
they first "tried" to fix it on the phone by changing settings...obviusly to no avail.. then they said ok, no problem since tmobile doesnt sell p900's we will replace it with the best brand they do sell... unfortunatly none of the phones tmo sold was a valid replacement.. i told them no its unacceptable.... then then argued a little cuz they had to shell out $1000 because when i signed up they told me they would cover any phone for any reason..
anyways... after 100$ deductible and some time on teh phone, they cut me a check for $800....i was very impressed...
you should be fine, i dont think they will try to fix it, i think they will just replace it...also, MAYBE just tell them you lost it, they will replace it with deductible.. this way even though its crunched you will have SOME spare parts... but use caution because if you tell them its lost you cant EVER power it up on your sim chip. it shows on tmobile. then they will try to call you on insurance fraud...

I've had a peculiar problem recently.
My internal phone speaker (earpiece, not loudspeaker) sounds pretty terrible now, when it sounded absolutely fine just over the weekend. I did not do anything different than before and I didn't do anything to damage it... (to my knowledge at least)
The problem is... the speaker vibrates and is very distorted and sounds really loud. Like if you were playing music too loudly on a low powered amp/speaker.
I tried installing a new rom and some volume tweaks to lower the volume hoping it's a software thing, but it still sounds very distorted...
Any ideas? Is there an equalizer for the internal speaker?
I'm hoping the speaker itself is not damaged...

I had to return mine after a week. Two faint bluish purple areas formed on the lcd, almost like a faint image got 'burned' in. I'm not sure how this happened, and it was def a burnt image. They replaced it with no questions asked, but I did get the warranty on the new phone....along with the body glove case.
Finally I have sold my TP2. Traded it in for the Samsung GT-i8000 which will arrive next week.
Though I loved the TP2, it's speed and it's hardware keyboard, it bugged me that it is slowly falling apart (well, not literally).
When I first had it, the screen would hold up and wouldn't wobble much. Now it wobbles so much it annoys me. I guess that is normal wear and tear.
Anyway, that wasn't the most annoying part. It is normal for it to wobble I guess. The worst is the sliding screen has started scratching both sides of the keyboard. Not just minor scratches but deep ones. So much so, I was afraid to slide my keyboard out again. I would of kept the stickers on to protect it but it feel off as time went by. So that is why HTC placed stickers on these things maybe, but unfortunately it never stayed on long enough.
And last but not least, there were newton rings, slam in the middle of the screen. I can notice it when the screen is lit or sleeping. I went to HTC to see if they will fix it for me. Turned out they blame me for putting it my pocket and with prolonged pressure, it will create these rings... Damn! If I knew, I wouldn't of kept it in my pocket without any casing. Never knew my pocket will create these rings. Fixing it costs $1200 HKD. EAT MY SHORTS!
So all 3 added together, I don't want to keep it anymore. I don't want another because of the slider and wobbly screen. I went to Wilson Communications (Hong Kong) and traded it in and when they saw the Newton Rings, they said it is normal for large screens to have them as it's hard for the large piece of top layer membrane to keep rigid long enough. Eventually they all will give in and the rings will appear after prolong usage.
I personally disagree, I think only some will suffer from them as my HD is still ok, no rings whatsoever. Even after it has been in my wife's bag since April.
I also guess I can't wait until WinMo 7 comes out when it will support capacity screen. HTC has some new copyright thingy where you are able to use both a stylus and your fingers (not nails) to operate the system. Some kind of electro-stylus. So accuracy won't be a problem anymore.
Until then, I might have to keep my i8000 for a while. The mrs is not rather happy about me changing phones so often. LOL.

Sounds like the other reports of pressure on the screen causing damage.. It's not 'burnt' or image burn (which does not happen on LCDs, although a very temporary similar thing can happen but goes away after being powered off for a bit). Most likely your phone screen was pushed inwards at some point.

Does anyone know if all versions of the TP2 are susceptible to the back of the screen scratching the keyboard (sans stickers, of course)? It looks like some versions (Original HTC, Sprint, Verizon and AT&T versions) have a slight ridge/seam around the perimeter of the kepboard that I assume may make the sliding mechanism better, while the T-Mobile USA version does not have this ridge/seam. Does this slight design change affect the susceptibility of the keyboard getting scratched?

That crossed my mind, but I was EXTRA careful to never push too hard. I also kept it in the case on my belt, and never even came close to hitting it or anything. With the money I spent, I made sure I didn't.
I had to DOA my 2nd Pro2 for the same issue. I thought it was software related, but it wasn't. My 3rd one is flawless....

looks like my speaker on my evo is pretty much dead (it's my fault i was dremeling some steel for a good 2-3 hours with my phone next to me listening to music so i could drown out the sound).
Are there any places that carry JUST the speaker at this point?
Huh, didn't realize that you could burn out a speaker by doing that.
At this point, you can try taking it into a Sprint store that has a repair facility and see if they can either sell you the part or replace it. I don't think they have many, if any, parts available yet though. I tried to get just a replacement battery cover and I was out of luck.
Maybe it's a warranty issue instead?

Hi this is an easy fix all you need is a really strong magnet (large rare earth) and place on outside of speaker. Move it around and tap on it a bit. Do it to the front and back speaker. I am am a mechanic and carry my phone everywhere. The magnet pulls the metal off of the weaker speaker magnet pretty easy. Works perfect for me and I have to do it twice a weak. I use a 3/4 x 1 cylinder magnet.

i've done this already, when i took the speaker out, the speaker was no longer smooth. It had a LOT of marks on it (dented looking) which looks out of place. the speaker sounds very off..
ok i called a local sprint repair facility and they are ordering me a new one (out of my 30 day warranty but they looked it up and said it should be ok still). Unfortunately i have a white evo, but we'll see. I don't mind the black one that much.
Looks like this is a common issue on some phones according to the guy, he didn't even ask me anything other than does the speaker sound distorted/blown out.

The same thing happened to a friend of mine, and I told him to deal with it for now or risk getting a phone with 2.2 on it and losing root. He decided his speaker was more important and ended up getting a phone with 2.2 and now is crying about root every day. If your phone is rooted, keep this in mind.
I am rooted but at this point the speaker phone is more important. honestly I do not use much of anything other than titanium. I will likely miss tether though but since I only use it once in a blue moon it will be fine.

The 30 day period is only for a replacement because of a defect or return because you're unsatisfied with the phone for any reason. It was nice of Sprint to still honor it however and get you the part.
The EVO still has a 1 year warranty from HTC; this blown speaker would likely be considered a manufacturers defect, in which case even after 30 days you could go through HTC to get a repair.
Anyone ever find anywhere to buy a replacement speaker? Not the back one, but the earpiece one....?
Mine has "52c10137db" assuming thats a part number. I need a new one mines crackly and I'd rather just fix it myself.
When I press my HOX screen at some pressure at the bottom it gives some color inside. Whether this is a problem?

Put some pressure on your monitor (Providing it's an LCD or similar). What do you see?
Why are you pressing a capacitive screen in the first place??
This is a problem, the glas should never touch the lcd.
And why press capacitive touchscreen? While playing games and caught up in the action? Since it is a tegra3 phone, chances are big
Just did a test . Whether the phone can withhold pressure inside the tight jeans and under the pillow while sleeping.

just noticed that mine now as well has that creak on the left hand side..basically when i press the left hand side i can feel it not being in the right place and it makes a noise when i push it down..right side is fine. spoken with my carrier and they said they can not replace it they need to send it to get worked on...and then once i send it they get a quotation of £20 and if i accept then they will try and fix it..i declned that and said you must be joking. spoke to HTC and they said they can not replace it but send it in for repairs..i do not mind that as long as they do not charge me..but they said the carrier should replace it if i am getting dust under the screen...here is hoping..dissappointed..as i really like this phone and already spend like few bucks getting cases for this phone S3 looks more and more appealing now...

And if you don't think it too is going to have its own set of anomalies and QC issues you're a tad naive. Go check out the GN forum, it's the last phone Samsung released. It's a great phone but far from perfect. As is the One X. And as will be the SGS3.

s2 came out never had any issues with that Barry mate. Look i do not want to turn this into a flame war..We both know how it was last week. Nah after clearing my head now i have two options.
One i am waiting an answer from HTC till tomorrow afternoon they said whether they will replace it for me or send it for repairs. If they say they will replace it i have a winner. If they say they will send it for repairs then i will go with my network provider. At least if they fix it i know i shall not have the issues as it will come back brand new.
And the good thing i am covered by warranty as it is the stupid flex issue that everyone is facing..Damn thing creaks like hell when you press on it

I had one of the first SGS2's sold in the UK. It was a train wreck. Here's a list of issues I can remember:
1) Devices overheating to the point they shut down
2) Huge color temperature variations in the displays
3) Wireless (both Wi-Fi and 3G) that was so screwed up Samsung was pushing out updates weekly
4) Fingerprints on the inside of the display
5) USB ports that released and got pushed up in to the phone
6) Flashing covering the camera lens from inside
7) Light showing through from the edges of the bezel
8) Bad headphone jacks
If you had one at launch you have either short or selective memory. After about two months all the QC issues went away and we all know how great a phone the SGS2 ended up being. I kept mine for eleven months; the longest I've ever kept a phone. The point being, no phone is immune from issues especially when they first come out.

i must of been one of the lucky ones then well whatever happens if the phone does not get replaced or if i send it in and they can not fix the issue i will just stick a case on it and not flex the damn thing..but knowing it is there will bug me

If you think about it, the devices we're buying today are about 1000% more complicated than just two years ago. A lot more advanced crap is being pushed in to a smaller space. At the same time, what we're willing to pay at the high-end is kind of fixed so the manufacturers have to juggle all of that while putting out phones at twice the frequency. My biggest ***** with all of them is the obvious lack of testing that takes place. I can forgive some of the QC issues (provided they go away eventually) but the flickering thing is kind of hard to overlook. As was the GN 2G radio problem. Alas, I think it's going to get worse before it gets better. It'll be interesting to see how Samsung fares with the SGS3. People's expectations are so high I think it'll be hard to meet them.

Spot on mate spot on. What would you advise to do mate? I mean phone is fully functional and nothing wrong with it. It is just that gap on the left hand side which is not really visible unless you really look at it and then when you press hard on the left you can feel the phone creaking and trying to adjust the shell to get in place.
Hi new here. I've had my ONE m7 now for over a year. I work in a machine shop and never had any problems with iron filings on the speakers until after I sent it in to HTC to get the purple/pink tint out of the camera. I sent it in to their Houston facility. Free repair. I was delighted to see it working well in low light upon return. Took it to work with me like I always do and within a few days discovered I could no longer hear anybody on the phone. Not only that but during music playback the top (left) speaker was very low volume with a buzzy sound to it. So I sent it back to HTC . This time to their Memphis facility and was reluctant to pay their usual $90 fee. But paid anyway. Got the phone back and it worked great for about a day. Then the same thing happened: top speaker very low volume on calls and music plus buzzy. Decided I wasted my $90 and wasn't going to do that again so got brave and carefully opened it up. I found the top speaker covered in iron filings but the bottom speaker which still worked great was not. So why is this? Turns out the fine mesh screen that is behind the grills was missing over the top speaker but still intact on the bottom. I cleaned the chips off the top speaker and now it works well again but I do need to replace that fine mesh screen. Where can I get one? I searched eBay, amazon and googled the internet to no avail. Checked suppliers like ETrade supply with no luck. Ebay sure sells a lot of what looks similar for iphone 4 but nothing for the HTC One. Thought about using old panty hose material but don't think that would work as well and rather use the right thing. Help please.
