Is there a way to change Play Store app language? Mine translates everything (app titles and descriptions) to my native language and it looks kinda bad. I'd like to keep it english.
I just did a quick test, and it seems to take whatever language the phone is set to and applies it to Play. So change your phone (Settings > Language & input > Language) language to English and it will change.
But is there a way to change the store only? Maybe modify the .apk somehow?

I'm sure someone could decompile the APK, but it updates on the fly, so I don't know how useful it could be.
I don't believe there is another way around it though. Sorry
I have similar problem here. Play store app is partially English and the rests Turkish. Account is set to English whereas my location is Turkey. Isn't there anything to fix this?

I'm not really an expert in this kind of stuff, but because someone asked me to do anotherone, I thought I'd just do a simple tutorial.
I know that it's not that well explained, but I was searching for this a long time ago and didn't really find anything, this is just from experience, so don't expect too much of it.
It's really not that hard:
1. Rename the .mtz to .zip
2. Open it with whatever you open your zips with.
3. Anything you can't open, just open it with winrar or whatever.
4. Search through everything and open manifest.xml (I think... most of the time the rest is just ****)
5. In that manifest.xml, you just search for anything that looks chinese and use google translate to translate it. ( if the translation sucks, just make a normal sentance of it)
6. Save the changes and just try it out. (be sure to rename it to .xml first)
Hope it was usefull.
(I know my English isn't always that good, but please ignore it)
PS: (Some things might not be up to date anymore, because I'm not really on MIUI anymore)
best way is to find a chinese and let him/her change it for u.LOL
That's all well and good, but why can't Android do this automatically like Chrome can?
not working. the only xml file i found is rather simple, and nothing there in chinese. all in English.

Wrong! Never do this way! Always get a native English speaker to translate the Chinese. This is how language translation is done! SOURCE -> TARGET your translator must be a native speaker of the TARGET language. Using native speakers of the SOURCE language results in Chinglish, which either sounds awkward, ridiculous, or incomprehensible.
haha! chinese and asians have decent english grammar so it depends

Hello there, I've got a question about Google's new Android 4.1.
I am running Jelly Bean on my Galaxy Nexus GSM version without having any problems. But now I wanted to try out so called "Google Now" and ask a few questions like "What is the definition of Robot?"
In Google's demo at I/O 2012 Google Now gave an answer like Apple's Siri, spoke to the user and showed him a card with the definition of Robot.
Now my problem is, that when I ask something, google now just gives me the google search results and doesn't speak to me or give me a card.
Is anyone having the same problems?
Yeah, I'm noticing the same behavior. Sometimes it does work ("how high is the burj khalifa?"), but most of the time it just searches for it. It does work best in English, though. I switched it to German (native language) and I'm having a hard time making it do anything but search on Google.
But oh well, it's not a stable release, so you can't really expect anything. I hope they will be able to iron out most issues before JB goes public.

My native language is German, too. I also tried both, English and German, none of them worked. But well You're right it's not a final release, I am happy with it but I am looking forward to see some Siri-like application on my Nexus. I thought I've missed something in the settings but I guess I am gonna wait for the final release...
Thanks for the reply, greetings from Frankfurt ;-)
I guess I'm glad I'M not the only one with this issue. Cdma Nexus.Let's hope it works better with future development.
Try going into settings\accounts\google then "search" and setting and setting it to "search on google.com" instead of your local google and it speaks lots more
I can't find that option.

Also, set your phones language to English (US)
Settings -> Language & input -> Language -> English (United States)

Try this:

I've done everything there except the last part, because there is no such option.

I'm having the same exact problem. Mine worked very well for the first few days I was using it, now however it won't talk back to me after I ask it a question. What's also odd is that half way through checking the settings the option for "Hotword Detection" vanished (found in "Google Now -> Settings -> Voice" ). I had to do a battery pull to get it to come back.
I have checked all the other language settings as the other forum post had suggested but still nothing. I'm thinking it must have been some kind of silent update or a problem on the back end because none of my other settings have changed.

I changed my language settings from German to English, everything is working perfectly for me now... Except that google now thinks that I am in Washington instead of in Germany but I guess I can figure out how thinks work.

Same for me, the talk back results worked great until today. I just saw that Google Now got ported to ICS, maybe with a ton more people using the service something got messed up on Google's end? Weird.
Idan73 has helped me to get Google Now to speak some time ago on the leaked build. It is extremely easy. If you open root explorer navigate to /system/csc/ language.xml. use menu button to open this file in text editor. The 5th or so line down is the languages currently displayed and looks like this......en_CA;fr_CA;kr_KR;........ all you need to do is add en_US to the end of this line and it will activate english (United States) in the settings/language and input tab. Go into phone Settings then Language and inputs and select English United states. Google Now will now speak. Big props to Idan73 for his help.
Obviously you will need root to accomplish this. I used CF-root after updating via KIES. Be sure to thank ChainFire for his work when you visit his thread.

If you're not comfortable tinkering with the files on your own, there is an app that can help you. Credit goes to xaueious for these instructions.

I have a Galaxy Nexus, so I already went though this before. Blame Google.
TO GET GOOGLE NOW FULLY WORKING IN CANADA, YOU NEED TO:
set your system locale (not the one in Google Now, but your actual device language) to en-US (use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.c_lis.ccl.morelocale&hl=en), add custom locale with language 'en', country 'US', and apply that. The stock setting of en-CA (Canadian English) does not work
change your Google Now search settings to use Google.com instead of Google.ca. You lose cards otherwise.
Make sure Google Now voice is English US to avoid further issues.
There's also an update for Google Now in the the Play Store.
Mine works just fine.

Hello. I have a weird problem. Nowadays I live in Poland and wanted to install some apps, like zalando or olx.pl from Google play market. Sadly, I couldn't do this, coz it said, that it's not allowed in my country. I don't really know, why I get such a message? It's rom fault or maybe something else? Plz help, if there is a fix for it (yes, I know I can install it from anywhere else, but I want it from Google play). ROM Freedom OS, OP3 3003.
Those apps are not available in your country nothing you can do really :crying:

Maybe it has something to do with your google account - when you have register for it - what country you were in? I remember somebody was having similar problem.

as far as I know you have to call google support for that, but cannot remember if they were actually able to do this change or not.
Hey guys, I had to switch roms recently ending up on Pixel experience extended (latest build - 21.10.18).
It runs really well and the battery life seems to be amazing already. The only problem is that google assistant isn't really working, I mean not at all.
If you say "ok google" the (old) google now kicks in. There is no google assistant at all, even though the google app is installed as a system app & completely updated.
I've seen some posts about that topic already, yet there is no real solution. It looks like google now is overlaying google assistant: even if I disable google assistant, google now still prevails! Do I need to move files around? Install something? Delete something? I've tried a lot already, still I have no idea how to fix that.
Google assistant should work on Pixel experience... Thanks and have a good one
Open build.prop file and check whether ro.opa.eligible_device=true line set to true.
if there is no line then add ro.opa.eligible_device=true line to build.prop file

You need root (+ root explorer) -> find the build.prop in the system folder and edit said line of code. Cheers! :fingers-crossed:
