Okay so I have in my posession a Iconia A100 and it gets stuck at the white Acer logo. If I hold Vol Up & Power itll say:
Erasing Cache before SD Update...
SD update cmd: recovery
--update_package=SDCARD:uodate.zip
Booting recovery kernel image
It'll just hang there forever. I've tried putting a copy of stock ROM on the Sdcard and renaming it update.zip and it'll just hang there also.
Ive tried the reset button and nothing.
I really dont know what else to try, I'm new with messing with a A100.
The tab was fine, and was powered down normally and now it wont start.

Make sure you rename it to "update" (zip is the extension, not a part of the name). Also, make sure the file is placed in the root of your external SD card. If this still doesn't work, you could try resetting the tab via the pinhole.
Have you tried a factory reset? Note you will loose all your data on the internal.
With the tablet off, press the volume up (rocker farthest from the corner) and the power button until it vibrates, then release the power button and switch the screen lock back and forth until 'erasing user data' comes up (make sure the volume rocker gets held throughout the process).
Theonew, i tried that before and nothing.
Romman0, I just tried what you said and once Erasing user data pops up, it says something underneath it, and it goes off, vibrates and goes right back to the white Acer logo. It does all of this in less than 5 seconds...
Thanks for the suggestions so far guys
Im still stuck /:
Edit: it says erasing cache under erasing user data and then reboots quickly

It failed because it cannot see your SD Card. Check that it is freshly formatted (FAT32) and is inserted completely. Also make sure that your device is charged, it might turn the card slot off to save power.

Good afternoon,
I am having serious trouble trying to install my FOTA from Orange (1.84.xx.x) and with little knowledge available on it, I'm trying to break it down piece by piece.
The phone works fine at the moment with the 1.40.xx.x Firmware on it but I do want to install the update.
I can load in to the bootloader no problem but when I do it hangs for a few seconds before a screen appears saying that it has tried to check PD98IMG.zip but it can't be found. It then says it can't find various connotations of that such as PD98xxx.nbh. Is this an issue?
Would not finding these files result in the phone hanging when I try to put it in Recovery mode? I have the FOTA file on the SD card (in the Download folder where it was downloaded to) and wa hoping that clicking Recovery would boot the FOTA file. It doesn't. The system hangs until I either take the battery out or....
.... I press Vol UP (3 seconds) and tap the Power button. This takes me to a new screen with blue writing (Android system Recovery 3e) that gives me the option to either Boot, Apply sdcard:update.zip, Wipe data/factory reset, Wipe cache partition.
I also have yellow writing on the screen with the message, "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command". I can only assume that this is quite important - what is wrong?
As for the update.zip, what is it? Should I rename the FOTA file as update.zip? where should it be put on the SD card to make it available to the Recovery menu?
Many thanks in advance,
AC
Hey did you ever get this fixed? I'm having the same issues. hit me up @ [email protected] please.
Hello everybody,
I'm new to xda forum and to android world in general.
It all started when I wanted to intall a custom ROM (InsertCoin CM7/A2SD+).First, I started with a back-up using ROM manager, then I went on recovery mode, I wiped all data, and I installed the ROM and the Radio. When the installation was finished, I rebooted, but it got stuck on the HTC logo. I waited for about 15 mins before I removed the battery. Afterwards, I went to the "Android system recovery 2e", I found the following choices in blue:
Reboot System Now
Apply sdcard:update.zip
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
and in yellow way below: E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command
When I select Apply sdcard:update.zip, I get:
E: Failed to open sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory)
E: Signature verification failed
Installation aborted
I know that I should get a "choose zip from sdcard" choice in order to restore everything. How can I get to my sdcard and run the retore?
Will my desire ever work again? please help!
Did you make a nandroidbackup before flashing?
Normally you start recobery on thid way:
1.) Power down phone
2.) Press vol- + power-button until the white screen with the three green 'androids' appears
3.) Navigate with volume-buttons to the point "recovery" and enter by pressing power-button
4.) After a while you should be in recovery
In this recovery you should disable the signature verify (in amonra it is "other>toggle signature verify")
and then try to flash again.
Are just try nandroidbackup with toggled signature verify.

I don't think I did a nandroidbackup. When I go to the "recovery" I only have the following options:
Reboot System Now
Apply sdcard:update.zip
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
You don't have a custom recovery installed that's the android recovery

Hello folks, hopefully somebody can help me out with this issue or I may just have to bite the bullet and see what the repair costs are going to be from Acer. I have an Iconia A100 that is unlocked and rooted. I never did get around to loading a custom ROM (was waiting for the JB ROMs to get a little bit more stable) and was just running the stock ICS. It also seems that I didn't successfully load a recovery image so I now seem to be totally out of luck. I went to use my tablet while it was still on but the screen refused to turn on after pressing the home button or pressing the power button. So I decided to reset it and figured that would fix it. Now it's stuck booting to the screen with the distorted text at the top and the multiple acer logos at the bottom. I've tried a factory reset to clear the cache and that didn't help although it did say deleting user data and cache. I tried booting into recovery but found that the CWM that I thought I had installed wasn't installed and all I get is a fallen down android icon with a red exclamation over it. If I power up holding down the volume up key and then flicking the screen rotation switch I get it to display that it's in USB fastboot mode but if I type in adb devices it doesn't get listed as an attached device when hooked into my PC. One other note if I leave it at the distorted text and plug it into my PC via USB Windows 7 detects it as a MPT USB Device which it's not able to locate a driver for.
Ok, some additional information:
I was trying to get something out of the screen where I have the fallen down android with the red exclamation point over it and it seems that the default recovery is still installed in Android system recovery (3e). I can't seem to select any menu options on the screen but it does give some additional info. It looks like the eMMC may be partially or completely borked, I'm not sure which. Here's what's on the screen:
Android system recover (3e)
Android system recovery utility
reboot system now
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
Then in yellow text:
E: Can't open /dev/block/mmcblk0p5
(No such file or directory)
E: failed to mount /cache (No such file or directory)
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: failed to mount /cache (No such file or directory)
This goes on for a bit of being unable to open various directories. Is there anyway at this point to re-lock the bootloader and erase traces of doing so? I find it hard to believe that unlocking the bootloader would cause what seems to be a hardware fault but I could be wrong.

Its a typical emmc brick, there's threads all over about this. All you can do is send it to acer for repair, sorry to say.
Plug it in and let try to boot on its own for an hour or so, what you want is failsafe, blue power led on but screen off. Then send it to Acer.

OK, so I installed the toolkit on my laptop, and so far have managed to unlock and root my phone.
Here is the problem.
When I boot to recovery, My phone comes up green, then the red triangle. Volume up and power gives me the Android system recovery (3) and a message on the bottom
E:Cant open /cache/recovery/command. all I can do is reboot the phone.
Ideally what I want is to be able to backup the phone, install a new kernel/rom and be able to restore it if I mess up.
Tried to search for help on the forum, but it didnt do me any good. Is there a newbie guide how to do this?
Thanks in advance

you have to flash custom recovery like CWM or TWRP
I have downloaded the CW ROM manager and installed rom manager v5.5.3.2 current recovery 5.x.x.x latest recovery 5.8.4.5. I boot into clockwork recovery mode. get the green circle with the arrow followed by the phone with the red triangle. Press volume up + power and get menu for android system recovery. With the menu
reboot
apply update from external
wipe data
Wipe cache
apply update from cache
bottom has a message E: cant open /cache/recovery/command
So i dont think I have accomplished anything except downloaded a useless app
