ROM QUESTIONS! (Roboto) - HTC Wildfire S

Roboto is a new rom based of ICS I am creating with aroma and loads of other features. I word like to ask a few questions IN YOUR OPINION about the following questions...
1. How big would it be for you not to download it? (Considering all the packages it will contain)
2. What apps (free apps only) would you like to see as am option?
3. What would you prefer, a tested, debugged rom later or a buggy rom sooner?
4. Do you have any specific mods you would like to see included? If so what mods?
5. Do you wish to see a custom kernel and custom theme later and have a sooner release date, or would you rather it all in one?

Small size please

Size doesn't really matter, stable and tested would be nice. It's your call really

1. How big would it be for you not to download it? (Considering all the packages it will contain)
200 MB or above, the frequency of download would drop. 400 MB would be too large.
2. What apps (free apps only) would you like to see as am option?
Some CPU Control application, AdFree, Some file browser, Link2SD, ROM Manager, Titanium Backup Free, SuperSU instead of SuperUSER, Nova Launcher and XDA
There are the apps that I feel everyone would benefit from.
3. What would you prefer, a tested, debugged rom later or a buggy rom sooner?
Seeing as ICS, isn't yet stable, the latter option.
Since it's so much more visually pleasing, it's hard to go back to GB.
4. Do you have any specific mods you would like to see included? If so what mods?
If you're including Beats Audio, leave it as an option.
ICS Reloaded as an option
Transparent Status Bar (If possible, as an install option)
Odexed for more Link2SD space & Deodexed version for those who want to theme
5. Do you wish to see a custom kernel and custom theme later and have a sooner release date, or would you rather it all in one?
The custom kernels and themes should be separate addons or install options. Some prefer a vanilla CM9 appearance.
Hope it helps.
Good luck and keep up the good work

This may add to the size of the rom.
Edit: it seems that this isn't a problem as modpunk seems to now support cdma upstream.

I'll add some of those apps now, unfortunately I must keep the ROM odexed for some features to work. The ROM currently is around 400mb uncompressed.

1. How big would it be for you not to download it? (Considering all the packages it will contain)
I would prefer something around 200 MBs. But if the ROM really hit's it off I would not hesitate to download even if its 400 MB stated that it's stable.
2. What apps (free apps only) would you like to see as am option?
Link2SD, Titanium Backup, GO SMS PRO, SD Booster, No Frills, SuperUser, ES File Explorer, Quick Pic. These are some which are my priority.
3. What would you prefer, a tested, debugged rom later or a buggy rom sooner?
I got no clue about this.
4. Do you have any specific mods you would like to see included? If so what mods?
Reloaded ICS, Beats, Some visual tweaks. But please all optional.
5. Do you wish to see a custom kernel and custom theme later and have a sooner release date, or would you rather it all in one?
All in one please?
BTW Waiting for the ROM.
BEST OF LUCK

I actually prefer it odexed. Don't like playing with custom themes. The ones on the market are good enough for me
Is the ROM based on modpunk's? Perhaps you could give us a teaser trailer of what the ROM contains
As for the size, if the core of the ROM is different from other builds, you could perhaps release a LITE version of it for people on limited bandwidths.
I'm at home now so no bandwidth problems but when I'm back on campus, there are certain file size and bandwidth restrictions. I had some issues with your later .sense packages which were very large but not the earlier ones. But that's just my $0.02

Okay if size doesn't matter then that sounds fine for me as for overclock kernel nothing should be a problem for those who can't oc as they can set maximum overclock to only 600 and they should be fine.

This is the HoneySense ROM ported from the desireHD to the desireZ! i like it, its fast, and looks elegant. What cuts it apart from the others, is the speed of a sense 2.1 rom, the versatility of sense 3, and the slickness of honeycomb. This uses virtuous OC daemon, so if you install setCPU or any other overclock app, it will disable.
How to install

IF YOUR WIFI DOES NOT WORK, FLASH THE UNITY V4 KERNEL ONTOP OF THIS. Here is the LINK !
Anything with a V infront of it (V1, V2, V2873924 etc) is an RC, so V1 is RC1. Anything without a V is not an RC.
THE DESIRE Z HBOOT IS REQUIRED!
Read the tutorial at http://www.virtuousrom.com/2011/06/t-mobile-g2-users-migrating-to-desirez.html to migrate to it.
Alternative Way to install Desire Z HBOOT
1. Download the PC10IMG.zip from the link above
2. Place it on the root of your SD
3. Boot into Bootloader
4. Choose the appropriate options
5. Remove the PC10IMG from the root, or else you cant boot into clockwork mod.
BTW, THIS ALSO CHANGES THE RADIO, SO YOU WILL HAVE TO FLASH A DIFFERENT RADIO

It's a complete sense 3 rom, but its not slow. it may be slow first, but give it time to settle in, and it will speed up plus in the next version i will make corrections to make it faster, and create a patch to remove the CRT animations, as they cause an orange led bug to occur.
Very nice and congrats can't wait to try it.

Hi there, thanks for posting up this supposed teaser. A couple things:
A: What exactly about this rom sets it apart from the plethora of other Sense3.0 ports to the DesireZ/G2.
B: You posted 5 completely identical screen shots of the exact same four screens, all of whom were undersized and difficult to see. Considering that this is a step up from the usual zero screen shots I can see why you felt that somehow more=better but let me assure you we would all be better off that if we could actually see one set of four, this would make me happier than punched beets.
C: There is a thread naming scheme in place to prevent confusion, is there any way you can edit your OP to reflect this? (On second look it seems you just forgot the date)
I look forward to seeing what you have to offer, welcome to XDA please try and help make this place not be the insufferable hellhole of double quotes, "+1"s, crap themeing, and poorly implemented code that this place seems to thrive on. Remember not all of us are 15 and have all day to bugtest!

dude are you serious? Make or port a rom and make perfect to your standards....
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using XDA Premium App
Yes I am perfectly serious. We have thread naming standards for a reason. He posted a ton of the same screens, they're undersized and hard to see. He also didn't really say what puts him apart from the rest. I fail to see the issue here.
I'm certainly not denigrating his work or the amount of time he put into its development. I believe all of these are valid questions. Why you gotta hate the fact that I'm not immediately sucking **** over a rom that hasn't even been put up for download yet?
PS: It's people like you that make me want to set fire to the internet. Go soak your head.
Edit: Now, shall we all grow up a bit and let the OP address my questions or shall we continue this pointless derail until one or the both of us gets banned, OR the mods decide to "delete offending material" which may or may not include perfectly legitimate questions.

[ROM][Android 2.2 - CM 6.1] Floyo 1.3.0 VLC [Discontinued]

Well there I was. As always. Checking out ROMS. As always. And then I went back to an old Froyo ROM. Floyo 1.2.0. If you do not know Floyo 1.2.0 then you have been living under a rock. Or your just a GB fan boy.
The reason I made this fan update of this awesome rom. Is easy really.. I want a fast full featured and full app suported ROM for the Hero.
VE6 is nice and fast. But it does not support all the apps. Heroine. Nice look and some good speed. But BT support on it is crap. Same as VE6 actually. And well Froyo roms have good support for apps and BT. But CM 6.2.0 got to heavy for my feel, Speedmachine by Elelinux and Floyo 1.4.0Pre1. So I took a road that was betwien CM6.1 and CM6.2 and a tiny bit GB.
So here I present to you all. My custom broken and fixed based on Floyo 1.2.0, Floyo 1.3.0
Big thanks ofcource to Erasmux for the base of this ROM.
To the ROM.
So its Floyo CM 6.1 based with all the goodie tweaks Erasmux made and a tiny bit I smashed in.
To the things I changed:
Code:
# Market updated to the middle one [I](Not the current latest)[/I]
# Removed Market updater so Market stays this version
# Complete theme overhaul [I](I just love Sense look)[/I] Took a while to get it to this.
#Browser is themed [I](A little)[/I]
#Launcher pro as standard launcher
#Updated Gapps
#Removed apps you can get from the market
#Updated Google Maps to the latest. [I](Some have problems with installing it from the market)[/I]
#Replaced Latim_IME with the GB Latin_IME [I](And it has multilanguage support)[/I]
#Installed custom themed HTC_IME-mod [I](and works on 140 DPI)[/I]
#Changed the DPI to 140
#Updated EGL to 1.1 with the correct libs
#FlyKernel 13 included. [I](Thanks [B]Erasmux[/B], again :D)[/I]
Think that is about it.
Ok when you first boot this ROM you will notice the theme is outa wack. Well I tried to fix it by changing some setting in CM_Setting. But yea did not work Fail me.
So when you first boot the rom go to CM Settings -> User Interface -> Tweaks exras -> Select a theme, and select STOCK_Sense.
Then reboot the phone and tada. It looks nice .
BTW the theme is based on 3 roms. Speedmachine from Elelinux. Heroine and SFM. So it is full Sense look. Just for the people who want to know about the theme. I am to lazy to create screens.
So that is about it for the theme.
Some report problems with GPS rebooting their phone. Well my phone max clock speed is 652 Mhz. And I always set it to 633. And I never get a reboot. The GPS Reboots on the Hero are mostly cuss people set their clock speed to high. Try lowering it. even all the way to the stock speed. And if you still have it then. Post some Logcats. I am no dev but I can debug a little. So maybe I can fix the problem some of you guys have with it.
The reason I spit the SuperUser from the rom and let you all install it sepratly is because the new Superuser (For me) does not work nice when I smash it in the rom from the start.
Install instructions:
# Download ROM and Superuser udate package (Duh)
# Put both on SD-card (Why do I even bother writing this?)
# Reboot to Recovery (Noone will read it anyways)
# Wipe everything!!! (!! maybe that will get some attention?)
# Install Floyo 1.3
#Install Supseruser Package (Else no root!)
# Install FlyKernel 13 package with pre-set clock speeds. (then you do not need a 3th party app for it)
# Boot into rom.
# Change the tweaks extras selected theme to STOCK_Sense!!!!! (Is a MUST!!!)
# Reboot the phone
# Set up ROM
# Enjoy the ROM!!
Download:
ROM:
Zippyshare
Supseruser:
Android SU
PS: The VLC is based on my reall name, Not that awefull media player that everyone loves. But not me...
If you have problems with the rom please be as full bug reporting as possible . A report like this. I get reboots all the time. Is useless for me and as of now I will ignore those.

testing right now, the speed of this rom is indeed very nice. Didn't encounter any wild bugs yet. So great rom. But i'll have to switch back to GB for development reasons.

Its in the trash and maybe I will some time, if I want. maybe.
It would be nice if you added some screenshots to the first post. I flashed this superexcited to replace my stock CM 6.1, but I hate the theme.
I don't mean to offend anyone, design and taste are subjective, but the looks might be a dealbreaker for many people other than me too.

Well in the changelog you can clearly see its based on a Sense theme. Just wondering did you also made the change with the CMTheme thing?? I do wonder why you got an HTC phone with HTC Sense in the first place
Nice ROM, fast and stable, would be nice if you can also release a 160dpi version as my elderly eyes are not able to cope with it
+1. Us more mature members prefer the 160dpi so that we can see the rom. Thanks for your hard work
ok, running it from yesterday evening, it's quite fast and stable...
lowered CPU max to 633 , so hopefully there won't be any GPS reboots
DPI Changers added on second post. Planning to add 2 light scripts as well. A Ultra light one and a light one, that removes some bloat that some may not use
Time to backup my Hero and install this
Thanks!
EDIT:
Here are some screenshots, Clean Floyo 1.3.0 VLC install (Lirasina, feel free to use the screenshots in your first post )

Rom works pretty fast and stable so far, it's amazing when you come back from a Gingerbread rom, The Hero isn't really descent enough to run Gingerbread at a descent working speed.
I'll stick to this, till i decided what to replace my Hero with,Samsung Galaxy SII or Google Galaxy Nexus (So far i tend to get a SGSII)
btw I noticed on your screen shots something. did you aply the sense theme in the CM options already when you made those? Cuss that is not how I intended it to look XD

Thanks guys. I ended up getting an iPhone for about a year. It was a great phone but boring due to having no customization. This is my 2nd day with the Galaxy Nexus and I love it. Android has really come a long way since I last used it.

Hi Geo411m,
Thanks for your effort, just like to confirm that is it a CWM flashable zip?
Thanks~!!
Well, I ran into a few issues at first. It didn't have any APNs, but I reset APNS to default then restarted the phone and all is well now.
So far so good, no real issues now that it's up and running. Thanks!
And yes, it's flashable via CWM.
thanks kitinas.
damn, I'm forced to login/create account with 4shared now? bah..
nevertheless, thanks for sharing

Did you wipe caches after install? This rom was created using the system image directly from google and therefore should work exactly as OTA. Not sure why the apn weren't there on first use.

I wasn't aware of the 4shared issue. I haven't done anything with android for about a year and don't know of other hosting.
Stock or AOKP
Receiving my brand new NEXUS tomorrow. Need to make a decision whether to go with stock ROM vs AOKP.
My history has been HyperDroid CM7 on an HD2 so i am on completely new ground. Can any and all give me your top 10 reasons to go either way?...........

In my opinion I feel stock (with a few tweaks) offers more stability. I've seen too many AOSP give lots of FC/crashes and I rather have a working phone then have it crash while outdoors and you have to wait to get home to fix it.
My experience in Stock tells me, you can only be with stock for so long...
...till you get frustrated enough to
first - atleast change the Kernel (go for franco kernel, one of the best out there). that makes things a bit snappier, has much more tweaks under the hood for battery life, wifi et al
Then, second, figure out how many more features are available in ROMs out there instead of stock. Once you find that - it is very difficult to stick to stock. Try APEX which is a very generic rom and keeps best features of most of the ROMs out there.
So basically, take it easy, and enjoy the ride ... (or enjoy the bumps first then figure out a way to sail smooth!)
You wont like the smooth sailing of a beautiful rom and a kernel out there, till you've had it rough enough on stock. I just used the rom in this thread, and my phone went down by atleast 30% in terms of performance.
Its much more sluggish, feels heavier, and a bit jerky through the menus. Even when I have almost no apps installed!
I was much better on a 4.0.3 bigxie Apex rom (extremely stable) and franco kernel - extremely fast! blazing.
Stock cant even hold a candle infront of this combination, and I'm talking about 4.0.4!!
GPS lock on this stock image is a 1000 times better than CM9. wtf??

I've always had 5-10 second lock on CM9; seems like mileage varies for some people for some reason or another.

I just updated the ROM with a much more optimized system. Let me know how it compares to AOSP.
May I know what did you do to optimize the system? Deodex is to make it slower so I'm wondering what are other tweaks you included that make it different than say ARHD 3.0.

I don't know what's in ARHD to compare. I made lots of changes to the build.prop for increased performance and made changes to the system to make android take advantage of the Nexuses GPU for better performance.

What's the best custom ROM?
This is an awkward question. All custom ROMs are good and this depends on ur personal preference. I would say CM9 will be the best if all the bugs fixed.
If u wan to have its full performance, ROOT it. There are lots and lots of apps for root users, so u should try them out urself. ROMtoolbox will give u a good control of a rooted SGW.
In short, trying and learning are the best ways.

True words. There is not THE ROM out right now in my opinion, so I would advice you to start of with stock and root access. Than once you familiar with it and still not satisfied, start with the first custom ROM.
CM9 is really awesome, but the camera doesnt work and has a few bugs. Here again, it depends on your personal requirments, some badly need there camera, some don't mind.
With Apps it is pretty much the same. You have to go and search for your personal requirments. Maybe I'll make later a list for you with my recommended apps.

i see, i'm still on the way on experimenting this stock rom and i'm contented for now. i'm not on hard core gaming and i just want this phone to run games just decently like temple run, and i also want to know why do people overclock to improve the 1.4ghz to 1.6ghz? does it really matter? i mean its the processor that makes the difference as far as i know even if it improves its still be the same because it has only single processor right? and thanks THE-E i read almost all of your post and i thank you for trying to make a list of recommendations

Custom ROM may have customized kernel, different way of multitasking which "should" improve phone performance. Other thing like deodexed, zipaligned which should improve the speed of the ROM.
Some other obvious mods like
1. customized framework-res which gives u a better appearance
2. extended power menu which let u have more options like reboot
3. toggles buttons on status bar which works similar to extended menu
...and more
However, quite a lot of ppl still stick to stock ROM as its overall performance is still very good.
For example, I am using Cow V2, when playing temple run, it is a bit laggy; while my gf is using stock ROM, temple run is running smoothly w/o any lagging.

also i do want to know how good this camera can be and the videos, as far i as i tested its just normal and gives a decent quality for me, or is it not? can you guys say your thoughts about its features if its worth it or not.
Generically why dun you google it at youtube....plenty of video previews.
I bought my first android after going thru the previews at the same channel.
The reason I bought the SGW was due the fact....
. The price is reasonable
. The CPU speed is fast
. And of course ICS CM9 by a Developer whose ROM I had used before on my first Android
Just to add too I never went thru a video preview before deciding on purchase.
And to my suprise four of my friends bought the same....coz they knew what I could do with it...

i did actually, but honestly what i saw on youtube reviews are all pros and no cons, i mean they just show how good it was but when a real user posts his/her experience then there comes the cons. thats why i want to know what on real other users. in some forums they say that the camera fails as well as the video and i just want to confirm it, in gaming i know its not the best coz of the single processor but i somehow want it because im not into hardcore gaming.

All the ROMS here are based on Gingerbread n using the very same kernel created by arco68 n some of the kernels have been modified.
If you wanna know the full capability of the SGW I suggest you try CM9 ICS which is the only IceCream Sandwich made...still in Alpha Release n modifications still being carried out...
Where is your originated country ? BTW ?

These Apps are good for performance.
JuiceDefender improves the performance of the batter life.
Gemini App Manager lets you block autostarts of Apps and more.
NoMedia let you set the folders with media, this will save time for the start up and also safe battery, because the media scanner does not search all directories.
RAM Mananger Pro optimises the RAM management, this improves the performance of my SGW a lot. But most probably you will not need this, if you use CM9 or other custom ROMs.

[Q] Memory leak all roms android 4.2.2

Hello,
Come some time testing many custom roms of Android 4.2.2 for the Galaxy Nexus in search of some that actually have a good performance without lags, with a good battery life and better without memory leaks.
I have tested Cyanogenmod 10.1, XenonHD, AOKP, Xylon, SlimBean, LiquidSmooth, ect. Also tested some variations of kernels (the best result was with FancyKernel r33). But all roms have this "memory bug" of Android 4.2.2.
I researched a lot about it, but found nothing very relevant or a potential solution.
Well, I came here just to share my experience, if someone has a solution or a suggestion and also want to share your experience, comments.
Did u try purity 5.7 ??
With fancy kernel r33 i get pretty decent free ram ( almost never under 100 mb...) I have also used aokp, paranoidandroid, revolution HD, jellybeer and stock. There is none (for me- from those i tried) better than this... Smooth, simple, buttery
My advice - give it a try it's worth it!

Define 'memory leak' for us. For example, I often have so many apps saying xMB, and when combined together, including running services, they do not add up to the total amount of ram used. Is this what you mean by a 'memory leak'?
[deleted]
For now, i'm running stock 4.2.2 and Fancy Kernel r33. I do like all custom Roms, but for this moment, this combination is great.
About Memory leak, the 4.2.2 have this known bug. After reboot works fine, but after open & close several apps, the memory is still full and the lags start.
Isn't a problem with the custom Roms, but with the Android 4.2+ source code.
But this is the reason why I opened this thread, so that we could discuss about this and shared our experiences.

I'm using the latest RasSaber (4.2.2) for Toroplus, with Franco.kernel r382 and scripts installed for a 300MB swap file in /cache. The best part about running a swap file is that the /cache partition on our phones is unused, so you don't lose any useful space with it, and you can use it on any ROM, with any kernel as long as the kernel supports swap.
It's so much smoother than without it; I used to run @ 1420mhz and still have lags, now I don't run an overclock at all and it's perfectly smooth.

Yeah - already posted the very same question here at XDA. I recently tried CM10.1 stable and nightly, Root-Box and Paranoid 3.60. All the same: after some days but not more than a week the "free RAM" drops to about 100MB and phone starts to become very laggy so I have to reboot to get back to 250-300MB free RAM. Mind: free RAM includes cached applications and is still considered by Android-OS as "free" which makes sense because it can be allocated at any time to new applications. Low free RAM results in no more cached apps which will make your phone slow at starting up new apps because android has to fight for every "bit" needed by the starting app.
I also tried recently to revert back to cm9 (android 4.0.4) and found out that this OS is very very stable in terms of RAM usage. Even after a week I had the very same amount of free RAM as after rebooting. Give it a try if you don't need the extras in 4.2.2 like lockscreen widgets.

No, not yet tested Purity Rom. But I noted here, and when some time left over I will test.
In this moment, I'm satisfaction with Stock 4.2.2 and Fancy Kernel. This kernel is awesome. Really smooth, fast and battery friendly. The ram optimizations is really great.
But the search continues. :fingers-crossed:

The GSM GNex is supported by the Aroma installer, so users of that phone should be able to install as described in the thread. Toro and Toroplus are not supported, so we have to install the scripts manually, which I will explain how to do here in order to avoid making you guys search for instructions:
0. Your kernel needs to support swap, or this isn't going to work. I don't know which kernels do or don't, you'd need to discuss that with your kernel's developer.
1. Download the turbo-boost.zip from the thread above.
2. Once you download the .zip, you'll need to extract the script for the location and size of the swap file you want. For instance, if you wanted a 300MB file in /cache, you need to extract swap/cache/300/etc/init.d/98swap_cache_v300 (all the script files are named 98swap_(location)_v300, so try not to get them mixed up!)
2.5. I recommend using /cache as the location for your swap file, because as I stated above, /cache is an unused partition in newer versions of Android. On my phone, /cache was a 425MB partition of completely empty space.
3. Copy the 98swap_cache(or system,data)_v300 script file to your phone.
4. Move the script file to /system/etc/init.d
5. Set permissions to rwxrwxr-x (chmod 775)
6. Reboot. If the swap file is working, you should have a swap_xxx.log file in /data/swap, and you should notice more free RAM and a smoother phone!
Side note: Root explorer makes steps 4 and 5 ridiculously easy. I ran into some trouble trying to chmod using terminal emulator.
All credit goes to delta-roh and Harbir, I am merely a supporter of their work.

Thanks for this tip! I installed this mod with stock ROM and FancyKernel and this combination is REALLY AWESOME!
I install about 3 hours and no some lags even with so many apps opened! The performance is the same that 4.1.2 (for now).
I want more test some days for confirm this great result.
But, thanks so much for this tip!

I have cm10.1 and have lag on tapping something in settings. I tested that lag appears every third time I tap on some setting. This is very annoying and have no idea how to fix. It's not a cyanogen or aosp bug, it's 4.2.2 source code and this android is made by developer's legs...
