I literally had the choice today to replace my Galaxy Nexus with a One S.... here's a few reasons why I didn't... (in no particular order)
1. The versatile and vivid LED Notification... the one on the One S is tucked behind the speaker grill and is barely noticeable until looking at it straight on... and it only has two colors!
2. Capacitive buttons vs software buttons.... I don't want to be stuck with a recent apps button, no menu button and no search button! On my Nexus, I set Long Press Home for Recents, enabled search button, and even enabled invisible menu icons. And an option to hide the keys alltogether is fantastic...
3. Development.... need I say more?
4. Screen size... for a few mm more, I get 3.65 more inches of screen... (math might be wrong on that)
5. Its a Nexus.
Any thoughts or additional points to add?
Is the one S even a high res screen? I know I can say one thing having a galaxy note and a galaxy nexus recently I will never go back to a non high res screen no matter how beastly the phone is lol. It's deff a standard for me now.
Thought about maybe getting a One X for AT&T come May and still keep my Nexus. But I've never had a HTC or not sure if I like sense 4.0, even though you can change that down the road. But capacitive buttons.... Mehhhh.
The design of the one X in white and the camera is what impresses me. Especially the burst mode and it picks the best photo for you out of the burst you took is cool. And being able to take a pic while recording is cool too.
The One S doesn't have an HD screen, but it is Super AMOLED... its a good looking screen.
Yea One S is qHD, but it's also pentile so bleh. Doesn't compare to Nexus where it's such a high resolution that pentile doesn't play a huge role.
I love the Micro-arc oxidation body though......hoping that the SGSIII is the same as they rumor ceramic material, which is the same.
I wouldn't mind the 4.3inch screen size.......your math is wrong in it should be .365 inches lol
Krait is awesome, though One S is running the slower MSM8260 I believe whereas One X is MSM8290, not a big difference.
I'd probably consider buying it just if it had a 720p screen. Everything else is pretty enticing. Though the AT&T One X is basically gonna be all the improvements I talked about except no Micro-arc oxidation body

Wait... Are you sure the At&t model won't have Micro-arc oxidation? I thought it would be the same build quality. Hmm, I was gonna get one in May as I have 2 upgrades due and rock it for a month along with my GNex and sell the one X if I didn't like it.

Sounds like a personal choice, but for me I plan on possibly getting a EVO ONE X LTE. I am a 15 year Sprint customer in NYC patiently waiting for LTE, and was looking to get the Galaxy Nexus. At this point I see no reason to get last years phone where the bugs are still being worked out when I can get a faster current phone with bugs.lol
The biggest advantage of the GN for me is ASOP dev here on this site. Soooo I wanted a GN but now I may be swayed into a EVO LTE in June...we will see. Loved the way the Sprint SG II Epic Touch 4G works with Exynos, and believes the GN a great Developers device to get to always have the latest version of Android. Not trying to start a flame because I know those of you that have it love it, but HTC One or SG3 seems to be the next big deal, but the EVO will be here before the SGIII. As far as I am concerned there will always be a next big deal, and I loved my EVO 4G....just saying lol
1. higher resolution
2. faster browser
3. HD Voice (future)
4. Better design based on all tech reviews
5. Most tech sites give it a better over all review...go ahead flame on!lol
6. better speaker stock
7 better GPS/Antenna
8. faster processor...misnomer yes, but spec wise just saying
9. rated best screen to have by every tech review
10. better battery for reviewers with 1.27 12-13 hours average use...

AT&T One X? Yea, it's exactly the same as the international One X for the most part. Except S4 Krait, LTE, and possibly bigger battery.
If your talking about an AT&T One S.....I didn't even hear any rumors about it or anything at all. Pretty sure only the One X is coming out for now.
As for the above Sprint post.
Well yea....if your on Sprint or a network that is going to sell the One X on contract and your using an upgrade. I'd expect you to choose the new phone over the GN which is about halfway into its product cycle.
One X wins hands down hardware-wise no doubt.....it's a matter of it being worth the money from someone already having a Gnex. IMO, not worth almost $700 to get it vs keeping the Gnex which is amazing itself. Plus the Intl One X battery life looks pretty bad right now and Tegra 3 isn't really good/great at all IMO. Not compared to Krait and whats yet to come.

Hi guys,
I am in dilema between keeping the HOX International or waiting for the HOX+ that is coming up shortly. I really like the form factor and the design of the One X series. I abandoned my "religion" in iOS just to convert to Android for my sake.
As we all know that the HOX+ is slightly better than the HOX S720e (more battery and CPU is a bit faster). However, if they both run on JB, do the new changes make any different?
I also hesitate to deal with the defective hardwares of the original HOX. I have checked it carefully, but I am not sure if other issues will come later. I am using it on Straight Talk and love the service. I haven't experienced any slow down during the peak time in Minnesota.
Please help me to weight my decision. Thank you
I really don't think there is going to be a lot of difference between them in real world usage.
Might be worth waiting for the +, and then buying the 'standard' one as the price is bound to take a dive.
Depends if you want a white phone as the One X+ only comes in black (booo!!). There isn't a lot of difference but the increase in battery might be worth a go...
If i were you i would definitely go for HOX+, but it aint worth the price difference.(approx 200$ without packages)
Im actually thinking of exchanging my HOX for HOX+ (dont tell anyone)

I have ordered X+, is new, is Super Quick, is JB and maybe all teething cured.
X+ would definitely be the better phone, if only for the bigger battery and better front camera. But I doubt that developers will buy yet another iterative phone to develop on.
I would wait only if you need LTE and the band is right for your network.
Kinda surprised the One X+ isn't LTE but as there is the One XL I'm not surprised
Hey guys, I am intrested in purchasing the HOX depending on how good the updates for the One X are.
*I wanted to know what is the camera like with the 4.1 update or even better still jelly bean
*Also has the video recording frame rate been improved over the rather dull 24fps.
*Finally the battery life how does it fair now with the updates
I was considering the HOX+ but I am concerned about the audio not being as good as or as loud as the orginal HOX for some reason and also I really like the White HOX but things that do appeal to me in the HOX+ are the 64gb memory considering the HOX has 26gb user availble and on my S3 my 32gb card has more than that, plus the built in storage aswell.
Also the fact the battery is bigger on the HOX+ and it uses a slightly newer version of the processor.
Despite this the price of the HOX is tempting as it is £380 on amazon or expansys while the HOX+ is £474 at Clove
wait for the HOX+ . much faster ang more battery.
If I was buying a new phone now, I would probably choose the One X+. But you have to remember that the original One X is likely to get cheaper when the One X+ is released. And to be honest, the real world difference between the One X and the One X+ is really minimal. Maybe the biggest advantage over the original One X is the LTE support but this is only relevant, if you live in the US or parts of Europe where LTE is supported. The processor is just slightly faster and the battery is a bit bigger so they won't give you a significant difference. I would go as far as to say that it would be completely pointless upgrade if you already have the original One X.
Thank you all for your inputs. I admit that I love the white color of the HOX. The "so-so" battery life is not a big problem to me because I have developed a habit to charge the phone whenever I have available access to it.
So saying that, I would like to know how the camera performs on 4.1 update or even jelly bean update
has the video recording been boosted from 24fps and
battery life how good has it got since update I think these will lead me to my decision of which one to purchase tbh.

I reread the press release and checked wikipedia and yeah, they've done it again; made the models confusing by having LTE and not LTE but with the same name. Maybe. Or whatever.
Oh well, given that LTE is gonna be on different frequencies everywhere, looks like 4G is going to be a bit of a fail for roaming. Probably a good thing considering what they charge for roaming data
I think LTE is the only cheeseburger for ATT subscribers. For those who use Straight Talk, it may not be an option. Correct me if I am wrong
It is funny that a seller already lists HOX+ on sale on eBay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/200827411296?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619
The price is a bit unattractive
I would wait for the One X+... the significant difference on the larger battery, and the improved front camera really fix the issues I've had with the One X.. regardless of having my One X rooted with custom rom & kernel. You just can't hack a battery to make it larger. =P Plus I've found that though the front camera is 'good enough' for video chat & photos IF there is enough light.. it really does need to be upped - which they did for the One X+. Everything else is the same, but it is nice to have LTE with the Tegra 3 chip - as long as your network provider has good coverage.
They are about the same just tweaked abit but i would wait just for the 64 gb of memory iv nealy filled my hox with just games and theres more coming out and dont wont to delete anything

Hi Guys
Im thinking of changing from G S5 to an M8 (S5 is Sooo boring to use, its just an S4 really), but I do like a good quality camera.. so Im just curious to ask ..
Is the camera as bad as the reviews say and have the HTC Updates improved it at all?
If you own an S5, how does the M8 compare?
Thanks
pretty silly reason to change a phone. S5 is as good as m8 so i suggest ,stick to it. Not really a upgrade and you will get bored of all phones , we all do.
and there are **** loads of comparison vidoes

Its not really a silly reason at this point no... when you consider that Ive only had the phone 3 days, The Touchwiz overhaul is not as major as they promised and the videos on YouTube, which Ive watched many of, all seem to come from the first 4 weeks after release, of which most, not all, are from over excited fanboys or bought reviewers, and dont take into account the updates that have been pushed by HTC to date and if these said updates have improved the camera at all and also how the audio sounds without Beats Audio..
The S5 Camera, like the S4 LTE on release day, does have some focusing and noise issues in low light, but the youtube videos dont tell you that..

But its mainly the camera, so If anyone can help me please.. Has the updates improved the camera
If your just going to use the pictures on your phone or for mms this phone is great (I previous owned a S4 and a Z1). There's also a mod on here you might want to check out?

There are entire threads about this topic, including one with dozens of pages of photos for you to look at, all tken with the M8. Whether the camera is good enough is completely subjective, so look at the photos it takes and see if they're good enough for you.
To the OP, I know exactly how it feels to currently be torn in middle between sticking with the S5 or M8.
Now as for my opinion, since I owned both phones, Im currently on and Sticking the M8.
I originally bought the M8 from TMobile new the day it came out. At first I was very impressed with the built quality and the smoothness of the UI on top of Android (Sense)
But after about 3 weeks of playing with it and taking lots and lots of pictures, I decided I wanted to give the S5 a try. So I ended up trading my M8 on Craigslist, even trade, for a Galaxy S5 in same new condition.
Now after playing with the S5 and using the camera to the fullest extent and my daughter Pre K graduation, I was very impressed with the Galaxy S5 camera. Like the Note 3 it had the same bells and wisles except with a higher pixel count and a couple more features added. But in comparison to the HTC One M8, the camera do seem to be "slightly" more sharper and more realistic looking.
BUT
With the big over haul in TouchWiz the phone seemed to lag here and there, and speaking of camera, during my daughters graduation Im taking lots of Pics and 1080p video, the phone started getting very wam and prompt a message that said "Phone Over Heating, Camera Disabled". So my camera was disable during the graduation so I missed a couple moments to take pics and record video. Phone cooled down and the camera was back working again......
Long story short, I ended up sale that Galaxy S5 for 450 and used that 450 to purchase my HTC One back from the guy I traded it to so now I have my original M8 back.
M8 is a overall better experience. After using the M8 yesterday at my sons 1st birthday party since he turned one year old, the pitcures tookedn with the M8 look pretty dam good.
Even got compliments while my camera was out by people looking at the view finder as we were taking pictures. Not to mention the UI being 100 percent smooth and I also found the battery to last a whole lot better on the M8 vs the S5.
So thats my 2 cents! Hit me up on twitter if you have any comments or questions. @FiberOpticsRLD
Honestly getting fed up with this bs now. The camera on both the m7 and the m8 is perfectly good and takes good clear pictures. If you want crap hot photos that you can blow up to the size of house, I say go and buy an expensive camera.
This 4 mega pixel comparison bollox is a load of crap. They are ULTRA pixels NOT megapixels. Just like hd and uhd.
After using both phones, I can deffinetly say that both the M7 and the M8 take excellent pic and video in low light conditions.
From what I understand with the pixel count being lower, this allows for more light to be picked up.
i'm switching to the M8 from the S5 as well. S5 is a fine phone but the occasional lag is enough to annoy me.

Yeah, after using the M7 -> Note 3 -> M8 - >S5 -> M8
I started to notice the high quality of HTC not only in the physicall hardware itself being the case of the phone and the screen and loud speakers, but I also started to see how the high quality of HTC Sense is vs TouchWiz. Even when compared to the skin on the LG G2 and other LG phones, the HTC Sense skin is just very light and optimized.
Deffinetly glad I was able to get my original purchased M8 back from Craigslist before it got traded off too far in the Craigslist world LOL.

They are bigger better pixels therefore more light and more detail captured per pixel .

The only reason to get the N5 over the G3 is if you absolutely have to have the fastest Android updates. Or the screen is too big. Or you only want to pay ~$300 for an off-contract phone.
Take it from someone who was in your exact shoes: yes. I had an HTC One XL, upgraded to a Dev Ed HTC One M7 when it came out and I loved it. I did. Screen was amazing. Phone felt great. And photos were pretty sweet (shameless plug: https://www.flickr.com/photos/lng0004/tags/htcone/). But then, when they announced the M8 which looked too similar with no big improvements to the camera, I decided to switch. My main interest was in a great camera sensor. So it was going to be either the Z2 or G3. G3 won me over with style.
After 6 days with the new G3, am I happy? Yup. It's still very much locked down. But after rooting, I was able to set up the phone to do (almost) all of what my HTC One was capable of. And the camera performs much better. Daytime photos actually look detailed and can be cropped without turning into one big mush. Oh, and the screen. Wow.
What I'm trying to say is, there's no reason not to upgrade.
PS: Get the G2 if you don't want to spend $600. Just as capable as the Nexus 5 with better camera and battery.
I used the M7 as my primary phone until I bought the G3 on Friday. I don't regret a thing. This phone is a beast.

I think your M7 is still amazing. The G3 is amazing too but some mind-boggling design elements detracts from the overall aesthetics of the phone. I mean, it has a sleek body with an amazing screen but marred by over-sharpening, poor UI colors, and badly designed icons. Come one! Cyan plus blue-gray in the UI? The over-sharpening of the display makes the fonts look weird and unbalanced (like a mixture of bold and thin weights). It also creates halos around texts. I would still prefer the HTC display quality.
I am not trying to defend the phone because everything you said is spot on and should have been fixed before its release. Definitely for us on the state side but if you are a flashaholic chances are after root and fingers crossed bootloader unlock for anyone not on tmobile stock problems wont bother you in the least. So I would say if you don't plan on being a power user with this phone skip on it until LG pulls it together.

You mentioned over-sharpening twice. That's because it's the only noticeable flaw of the phone. Everything else is subjective. I do agree that HTC's SLCDs are amazing though. Brighter than the G3. But everything that's good about the G3 makes it a great upgrade.
The main reason why I got the G3 over the M8 is because of the screen. It's practically the same physical size as the M8 but with a bigger screen.

Coming from m8 I would say no unless you can do without custom roms and live with pretty awful lag on the phone. I went for the screen size and resolution can you tell the difference ow yes.
Camera is better and like the thin bezel but again I say the lag is the biggest disappointing point of out the phone.

I don't experience any lag with my G3, and they are still working on unlocking the bootloader - I wouldn't count out the devs yet.
I had an M7 for 3 months and I traded it outright for a Galaxy S4. Aside from the unimpressive camera, the original HTC One had terrible cellular reception. This was confirmed by numerous people on the XDA forums and was likely due to the all-metal construction. Right away, I noticed a drastic improvement in my data speed and rarely experienced dropped calls, like I frequently had with the One. My new G3 actually has better reception than the GS4, so if you are considering an upgrade the LG phone's improved call and data quality should be cause enough.
Throw in a faster processor, MUCH better camera, replaceable battery and micro-SD card slot and it's a no-brainer.
It's really strange to me that phone reviewers never consider reception. They talk about the screen, processor speed, speakers, etc. but don't ever mention the phone's ability to send and receive calls.
Thanks everyone for the input, I actually went ahead and pulled the trigger...... I figured that I can give it a week trial to see if I like it.
So I went to Bestbuy and grabbed on..... Oddly I was still given the $50 in store gift card and the phone was only $50 + tax. That made my purchase even sweeter.
So far I really do like the screen size and the speed, it actually does seem faster then my HTC One (M7). The camera is extremely better and I actually liked my M7 camera. If all goes well this week I will give my son my M7 and keep the G3

Is the camera that much worse than the S5 or is it overblown? Does it use much RAM either? I might switch to the HTC One M8 tomorrow.
If the camera is something you feel absolutely must have, stick with the S5. I LOVE my M8, but my Note 3 took so much better pictures.

I got overheatting issues with two S5s already. First one was worse. 165 degrees fahrenheit w/ 5-7 apps opened, some decent screen usage, and texting should not yield a high temp. One time, the overheating was caused by a T-Mobile diagnostic test and the screen wouldn't respond properly and the device crashed.
If you don't mind 4mp pictures the m8 camera is awesome. Low light pictures come out pretty good most of the time with little to no tweaking. Note3 took awesome well lit pictures. Low light sucked. Made the moto x seem like a professional camera in that regard and I do miss that from my x. S5 is probably the better all arounder picture taker but I got tired of touchwiz getting more and more complicated to tinker with. Knox didn't help either. I look forward to android L in lots of ways, including imaging, but OTOH I am worried about how hardcore google will implement selinux and security. As long as OEM's and google keep coming with phones that have unlockable bootloaders I'll be good.

Coolest running phone I have ever used, even when running GPS or a graphical game the phone only barely gets warm. Very efficient phone, not much battery energy is wasted.
After furthering thinking, I will stick with my Galaxy S5 and find ways to minimize the heat since one of my best friends and my dad have problems with their heating at times on Galaxies. I also want the waterproofing, nicer display, finger print scanner, and galaxy software to work w/ my gear.

Okay guys, I switched to the HTC One M8 since T-Mobile told me they will waive the restocking fee by crediting me back, but that's a long story and battle I have to fight to get my $50 back.
