I am on 4.0.4 rooted, and it seems lately gallery keeps hanging. Sometimes the thumnails do not show up other times they do but even after i click on a picture or movies it just hangs and has the circle that it is loading forever.
I don't have that many images/movies..maybe 30 total
I already tried clearing cache for gallery, i was thinking of clearing the data but not sure if that will wipe out my images/movies?
Any other ideas? Thanks!
i am having this same problem so i thought i'd just post here instead of making a new thread.
i was on AOKP M5 since it was released and the day CM9 RC1 came out i wiped data and flashed it. this is when i saw the problem. everything worked fine in AOKP M5.
i wasn't reallse happy with CM9 so i wiped data again and flashed liquidsmooth 1.5 and while i am enjoying it i am having this similar problem with the gallery. i have searched and searched and have found no solution for this bug.
when i go to gallery all the thumbnails are gray. when i click on a folder the thumbnails are still gray and when i click on a picture it says "no thumbnail." i wiped gallery in titanium backup and no dice. i also uninstalled and reinstalled the app through titanium backup. no dice once again so i just wiped data and did another fresh install of liquid and i am still having the problem.
i am able to take pictures and view them in quickpic but not in the gallery. i downloaded the es file explorer showed hidden files and deleted the .thumbnail folder (it was already empty) in the DCIM folder. the gallery repopulated but the thumbnails were still gray. for now i am using the quickpic app for my gallery since it is able to show thumbnails.
i just installed this liquid 1.5 on my friend's GN and the first thing i did was take some pics so i could view them in his gallery and he doesn't seem to have the bug. everything works as it should. is this bug just random or was it because his phone just had his bootloader unlocked and was "fresh" for the new rom being installed? in CWM i wiped data/factory reset so i didn't dirty flash. whatever the case i hope this is fixed in the JB version of roms. i really don't want to flash a factory image and start all over.
if anyone has a solution or an idea on how i might try and fix it PLEASE post it. thank you so much.

Good morning!
I searched all over the place, and can't find anything related to what's happening.
But, since upgrading, I was messing around with the camera, and it's not saving any images I take (or video, or panorama).
Anyone have any ideas? My next step is backing everything up and wiping, but trying to avoid that.
Any help would be muchly appreciated!
I experienced the same problem when I upgraded from 4.01 (yakjuux) to 4.04 (yakju) and then did an ABD mode restore (apps & sd card) using Galaxy Nexus Toolbox 5.6
I reflashed 4.04, restored only the apps and everything is saving properly again. Not sure if its related to the sd-card restore corrupting the camera with old 4.0.1 files or another reason. Any suggestions?
Same problem
I am having the same problem after upgrading from yakjuxw to yakju. I tried restoring my apps and data using Wugs Galaxy Nexus Root Tookit v1.4, but that didn't completely work so I ended up reinstalling all my apps by hand. I am thinking I will have to backup my apps using TitaniumBackup and then restore yakju. Can you elaborate on how to do an "ABD mode restore"? Thanks.
EDIT: I found a simple solution: http://www.galaxynexusforum.com/forum/rescue-squad/5868-cannot-delete-two-folders-sdcard.html
Just rename DCIM to something else, reboot, and the camera app should create a new DCIM folder with fixed permissions when you take a new picture. This fix worked great for me. Now I just have to move the old pictures to the new folder and hope it doesn't screw up my permissions again...
Hey everybody, I'm on a JB rom right now (Jellybelly 3.3), and whenever I try to open the camera, it says flashes a message that gallery has stopped working. I noticed the problem a couple days ago, but I'm not sure how long I've had the problem because I rarely use the camera. When the phone boots up, it flashes the same message.
I've used several roms over the past few weeks, and my usual method of flashing is to wipe data and cache before installing the rom. Since I noticed the problem, I tried wiping data, cache, then system, installing the rom and gapps, then fixing permissions. After that didn't work, I tried using superwipe before flashing a rom. Apparently I've had this problem for a while, as my nandroid backup has the same problem.
Does anybody have any idea as to what the problem is and how to fix it? Thanks in advance.
Did you by any chance freeze/delete the gallery app after you installed the rom? The gallery app is tied to the camera in jellybean, i froze my gallery app(use quickpic instead) and noticed the camera was missing.

No, it doesn't function directly after installing a rom.
My camera for my Galaxy Nexus has been broke for the last several weeks.
When opened, a black screen opens before shortly thereafter giving the message "gallery is unresponsive" and force closes.
I restored to AOKP build 3, updated the ROM to build 4 and flashed that (after corresponding factory reset, wipe data/cache/dalvik).
Now the camera opens, shows the "take picture" etc buttons but still has a black screen and force closes.
I assume while flashing different ROMs I had restored using Titanium backup a system setting/app that caused this problem.
I understand this question has been asked, but I have to find a solution to my problem (I have done battery pull etc.)
Any help will be appreciated.
I should mention that I have had a couple messages over the previous couple weeks where it says "SIM card invalid" and phone restarts.
I have not had this message is several days.
have you tried a different ROM?
use RootBox 4.2.2
ive been using it no problems and amazing battery life, not to mention the smoothness and pure awesomeness of the ROM

Yes. Originally this problem happened shortly after flashing codename. With this ROM, a black screen would show and then "gallery is unresponsive."
I reverted to AOKP and flashed updated version. Now camera app opens, shows the take picture etc. buttons on bottom but where the actual picture should be stays black and gallery goes unresponsive.
Have also tried deleting camera apk and re-flashing a downloading camera zip file. Same problem.

Cleared data and cache for the app. Same issue.
Very frustrating issue.
Fast boot flash back to stock. If camera is still acting up then its more than likely hardware issues
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
do you get any messages after boy saying something like: com.xxx.xxx has unexpectedly stopped. this has happened to me to. you have to format your sd card. try that
remember to backup all your important file from the sd card to your computer EXCEPT the DCIM (where a'll your pictures and stuff are. anything related to the gallery don't backup)
Why not try a complete wipe.
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase system
In that order
then fastboot back to stock as mentioned by namtombout.
If that doesn't work it is indeed a hardware issue.

I don't think I've got any of these messages..
I will attempt the complete wipe per instructions in this thread (simply working up to the time that I actually will go through with it). I'm thinking I must have restored some system settings/camera settings from titanium backup during one of my recent ROM changes.
My battery life has been awfully poor lately as well....wondering if the restore of some system setting screwed with that as well...
Hopefully the complete wipe will get things back in order.

after you complete the wipe, DO NOT use titanium backup to restore your apps (even user apps). try fresh ones from the play store and see if that helps. if not im afraid you will have to go back to stock and then root again, flash a new ROM again, and then download your apps from the play store.
this problem has happened to me with my old phone (Samsung Captivate) but the formatting of the SD card fixed that for a while, when it started again i did the steps above and the phone worked better than ever.
Ok I looked around and things weren't quite matching up to the problem i'm having.
I recently rooted my S2 and flashed Revolt JB rom which I absolutely love.
But I cannot go into my gallery, when I do it loads a bit, then it freezes and my phone reboots, while every other person with the gallery issues it just goes to the home screen.
I tried removing DCIM folders from internal and SD
Tried removing the SD completely
Tried clearing cache and data on gallery app
I really really don't want to revert back to stock and unroot, so please help me with this problem.
have you tried a different gallery app, also try moving all your pictures /data/files etc anything you want backed up and then format your sd card and then transfer everything back see if it helps ?
I tried a different gallery app, but i'm going to try and remove all the data/files
I just noticed I tried removing the SD card completely, the issue isn't the sd card, so is there any data files in my internal storage I can move without there being any issues?
Actually the "gallery issue" does reboot phones.
Your sd card is out, so that's good....but you also need to transfer off your phone and delete every video and pic you have on your internal sd storage and the issue should be gone. Maybe you have a video on there that you've missed???
And you definitely are using twrp 2.6.1.0 right?
Good luck!

Which apps if you don't mind sharing?
While cleaning junk files on my Sprint Gnex root 4.3 stock Build JWR67B.L700GJ04, I accidently deleted a file called gallery.3d, or something like that. Shortly after whenever i tried to take a picture with Instagram, or anyother camera app even the stock camera app, it would crash and say the the gallery has closed. I can still view all of my pictures perfectly fine in the stock gallery app, but i am unable to take any pictures due to the app craching everytime i attempt to open it to take a picture. I've tried clearing the cache and data from the gallery app and rebooting but that does not work. the first time i simply rebooted it seemed to fix the error but it was only temporary. If someone could please help me with this problem it would be greatly appreciated.
Try clear cache and dalvik in recovery if you have one

I reinstalled the app by reflashing my GApps. After reboot i opened the camera app, and it seemed to work at first but then it never fully opened the camera to where I could see an image, froze and closed and gave me the same message "Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped". Not sure what to do from here.
