Whenever I play music with my One V there is an audible hiss. I'm using a cheap pair of JVC Gummy IEM's and even with them the hiss is pretty prevalent.
Whether the volume is muted or at its max, as long as an audio file is playing the hiss remains.
It should be added that the hiss does not change in volume as it stays at a constant level independent of system volume.
I'm wondering if it affects EVERY One V, or if it's just a select few handsets which are doing it.
this should be posted in the Q&A section not general, as it's a question.
Duh, my bad about that, of course it should be in the Q&A section.
If a mod could move this over that would be great!
My One V also has some hissing while playing music. But it's better since firmware version 2.08.

I have updated my firmware but found no great improvement. As per you, the hissing only happens when I'm playing music.

mine doesnt, im on 2.08.401.2. seems like a hardware problem to me?
Moved to Q&A. Please keep all questions there. Thank you.

Got that. Sent to service for repair. Waiting for return.
Me too
I have the same problem with my One V. Using Sennheiser CX-300 II in-ear headphones the hiss is very loud (in my opinion), making it useless for listening to music (esp. classic) at low volume. When I complained about this the phone got sent to service, and returned to me a week later with a note saying that no problem could be found with the phone. Thanks a lot. Sent the phone back again, still waiting.
I talked to HTC (Sweden), and they completely deny ever having heard of this problem, although several sources on the web report it. I also tried a demo phone in a store, and it had the same problem.
My guess is that this problem affects all One V's due to bad internal shielding or a crappy DAC, but that HTC are being very quiet about it since only users who are picky about sound quality will notice.
Nohing like this with me!
Hissing? It never happened o me!
Interesting! Even with volume turned to zero (while playing music) and using sensitive headphones? In that case you're the first one to write about not being having the problem, which I guess is good news.
YES!!!!!!!

Yes, there's nothing like a hiss!! Many said that there were Bluetooth and Heating problems too! But it's nothing like that! Atleast with me!

other than the slight incall audio boost with some of the kernels why has no dev attempted to do a full audio mod to this phone? even the louder volume hack app hasn't been updated in a year.
im just shocked this phone has been out all of this time and we have come up with nothing. ive seen countless threads on this with no resolution.
thoughts?
my assumption is that it's not really in demand. I'm not really sure why you would even want this. the Evo is plenty loud as is. Plus I have played with the pre-amp on it and when you increase the volume to much more than what it is now it doesn't sound to good.

you may think it needs a boost but im guessing others doing or a hack would have been made
The evo is the first phone iv had where volume is not an issue, in call or notification wise. This is also the first thread iv noticed concerning this issue. Imo there just must be no demand as already stated by xcom923.

well i think it's an issue and if you search the evo thread for volume boost you will see many others have asked too.
I gotta say a bump up of volume wouldn't hurt. Not like my winmo days where volume was awful.
Just a small increase would be nice.
My 2 cents
Ok then why clutter up the forum with another thread that noone wants to bother with. Enable hearing aid in settings-call. That will help with in call volume at least a little bit. Sorry i cant be of more help as well, good luck

I believe DSP manager has a gain function for those that might work.
Dsp manager seemed to tweak bass, mid and trebble slightly but overall volume i didnt notice a change while listening to pandora.
Edit: thats through phone speaker. Headset and bluetooth have several more options but iv never tried

seems louder volume hack v4.0 market app will be released by december. hopefully it supports the evo with froyo.
Don't turn it all the way up. I remember I had a dps manager thing and when I boosted the volume up, my speaker popped and I hear crackling sounds for like 2 weeks. Took it to a Sprint store and got my Evo replaced.

you may be running a rom with the audio boost or a kernel with it baked in, im not.
So is a different rom/kernel not an option for you fixxxer?
Compaired to the I580 and the First motorola droid our speaker is low... But im half deaf anyway.

im running steelh rom and don't want to switch. i have a newer 004 model evo, the current kernels do not work for me.
i guess ill just wait until the new louder volume app hits the market.
can one of the devs here at least tell me what mods you did to the system to give your roms a volume boost? id be happy to do some modding.
I might be half crazy and half deaf but I swear PowerAmp music players pre amp feature jack things up abit..on speaker, with headphones and through my Plantronics BT. Speaking of music only though..but the answer is in his software if he can pre-amp sound.
I really wanna see if the majority of GNexs have this issue before I do a warranty exchange.

Mine have the issue, but is VERY low... udible only in very silent environments
This is on all units. Posts were made about this a long time ago.
I think disable the "touch sounds" option from the sound menu in settings. It stops the pop then.

This helps but it is still there; if you change the volume of the device or whenever a sounds is played e.g. incoming email. It's not very loud I agree but I wonder if it gets enhanced when I stream music over Bluetooth in the car and I get an email. Will check that today.
This is normal unfortunately. You can find threads from last year about this.
I've had 2 GN, each made months apart (one made in Korea and one made in China) and they both had this problem.

Mine isn't exactly new. Its a CLNR and I experience the same thing as you. In a medium to loud environment I have to hold the speaker up to my ear to hear the pop. Although I am on a Verizon Nexus.

My Gnex is also doing it. It's normal.
I also bought a Samsung Tab 10.1 right after launch that did the same thing. It was fixed by a firmware update. It may have been fixed either accidentally or on purpose by Samsung.....I'm not sure. I just know after Samsung finally pushed Touchwiz to my tab it stopped making the pop noise.
I read in the Tab section that the popping noise is when the firmware is actually stopping or muting the speaker after playing sound which of course isn't actually supposed to heard.

I'm with you on this one. As soon as I get my hands on a computer I'll try searching. Head over to the Inspire section, I believe it was under the Q&A section there's a sticky for miui. If I find anything I'll report back.

Edit: I believe the ics versions have better sound. But yeah, I preffer GB for now.

have you tried other Miui derivatives
and do you mean like speaker volume in total
for that XxXPachaXxX has a fix, head over to his website and download the zip called extra loud or something and flash that
also his sony BE mod is really cool
Right now im testing a different one that I grabbed from over the inspire section since my cell is that.
And yes, the only prob. I had was the speaker volume. Everything else worked fantastically.
I was running dekky's latest GB build.
Funny thing, if it weren't for my gf that complained (we both have the same cell and since she was complaining about battery life, I told her to install miui - which of course meant me doing it after a few more days of hearing her complain. I was happy, I don't even listen to music on the cell and didn't care) I wouldn't even be here.
Sorry about that, I needed to vent a bit.

A few things, still testing. This place isn't about others doing things for you. Hence, chill out and be patient.
Edit: you can search for a file called inspire gb audiofix and test 0301 and install both.
If I knew how to upload the files I would.
My gf says it sounds better with both. I have no idea since I don't listen to music on the cell.
2nd edit: flashing the first fix mentioned made me loose sound in calls.
Sent from a dream.
Posting in multiple places won't get you anywhere.
you want louder volume in speakers of through headphones? because that's how MIUI is. Try using other GB roms because i'm using MIUI and i just tested the speaker volume and that's fairly low but through headphones it can get really loud.
Hey on my HTC One X after updating to the latest 1.29 update I noticed that the volume on the ear piece is really really low. Like I can hardly hear people in busy places like the mall. I am not rooted nor did I ever intend on getting rooted as everything else seems to be working good and I have other phones that are rooted. I was wondering if there is anything to increase the volume to a decent level. I have it raised all the way up and it sounds as if I have it set all the way down. Struggling to hear the other caller is a really starting to annoy me as this is a really awesome phone... So can anyone help?

Just in case...have verified your phone profile and also system audio settings. If all is set right and its still a problem, may be just factory reset the phone and see if its gets better. Just a suggestion, not a sure shot, but i have seen lots of weird things getting solved after factory resets.
Maybe the problem is for the earphones , have you tried other ones ?

Hi,
I was on 4.1.1 and the speaker volume was very low but on the earphones it was good.
I upgraded to 4.2.2 and it has gone extremely low on the speaker and much lower on the earphones, plus the equalizer app is not as noticeable anymore.
Seriously, the speaker volume now is just inaudible, just a whisper. I can't hear anything on it (calls, music, videos...). Nothing. The phone is usless like this.
HTC told me to send it while it is under guarantee, but they can decide that I damaged it myself and not repair it.
So, first, I'd like to go back to 4.1.1. How can I do i? Resetting to factory settings is useless, the problem persists andI'm still on 4.2.2-
Any advice?
Thanks

Dude,
I thinks your speaker is damaged!
Because HTC One x volum on sense 5 is very good and louder!
Regards from Brasil
Thanks for your help guys.
I think it is everything. It is an old phone and it's dirty, so certainly the microholes of the speaker must be clogged with dirt. At the same time the speaker must be defective because it is extreeemly low and it is a very common problem for many owners. And finally, what I know for sure is that yesterday the sound on the earphones was excellent and today is low and poor, while it is dead onthe speakers, and that is caused by the 4.2.2. upgrade.
In these spanish forums other people are reporting the same after upgrading. http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?t=688211, so it's not only me.
So, what I'd like first of all is to know if it's possible to go back to 4.1.1, but still I will send it to HTC for repair on Monday.
About cleaning the holes with a toothbrush, I already tried with normal toothbrush and nothing changed. I read that some people are opening it and cleaning from inside with some specially thin brush, but I can't void the guarantee by opening it.
Thanks again. If you know if I can go back to 4.1.1 that is my main concern now.
Hi. Try this.
I understand the volume on 4.2.2 Sense 5 is a lot low. Get Viper4Android app and install it and do the settings as you would like. It works wonderfully on 4.2.2 Sense 5.

I can't root it by now, I need to keep the guarantee. If HTC fails to repair it, then I will try Viper4Android.
Thanks anyway.
Still, I'd like to know if it's possible to go back to 4.1.1. Nobody seems to know.
You can go back to 4.1.1 but you need to unlock you boot loader and flash a custom recovery and a custom 4.1.1 ROM. Sorry but no other way.

Oh I see. Then I better wait to see what HTC can do with the volume and then I will decide if rooting and using ROMs.
Thanks a lot.
Actually, on the earphones it's still great sound and the equalizer app works fine. I was doing something wrong. It's just the speaker which is low.
Thanks to everyone.
Update: I sent it to HTC and they fixed it fast and free of charge as it is under guarantee. Now it sounds very well, loud. In the report paper they say that they changed the software but not any hardware was replaced. I stil have 4.2.2, so I don't know what they changed. Maybe they just opened and cleaned the speaker inside.
