Does exiting apps via the task manager free phone memory?
If not, is it recommended to install an app that accomplishes this?

You can use the built in task manager to kill problem apps and to free phone memory. DO NOT download any other task manager or app killer from the market. They mess with the OS, decrease battery life and will cause your phone to become unstable.
Besides, the OneX has plenty of memory. Unless you are a hardcore gamer there is no real reason why you would need to free up more memory.
Exactly what I needed to know. Thanks, bro!

Hey, I just rooted, s-offed and whatsovered my desire hd and flashed android revolution hd rom. earlier on stock rom I was using advanced task killer which gave me the feeling after killing all processes to save battery. but i never really checked it. and task killer showed me about 15 apps running again, 1 second after I killed ALL apps. so is this really senseful or not?
The only task killer worth using is autokiller now you have root. But, personally, i find the DHD has enough ram (768mb) not to need one at all.
Android internal task killer seems to cope fine. =)

Anyone knows how to check free space on the phone not on the SD card?
It says I have no room but I can't check it by use of Es file explorer or Astro.
Thanks.
Go to manage applications on settings> applications> manage applications. At the bottom you will see how much space its used and how much is free....
You can also use App Control.apk to see used space on your phone. It also lets you backup your applications

Thank you guys for a quick reply.
Well I'm getting to:
settings> applications> manage applications. At the bottom you will see how much space its used and how much is free....
Click to collapse
But, well... I don't see any info about the total or/and free space.
Clicking Menu only lets for the sort order.
Then it is better to use app control application. It will so used and unused space at the top of its ui.

Thank you.
Any other app you would suggest?
App Control has not very intuitive interface. This size showing is well... strange. And the "see details" feature does not work for me.
App remover has a nice interface but it does not show the general info.
So would you suggest any other app?
Thank you very much
AppMonster is also a good application. Pro version is actually quite nice and has added features.

If you're rooted, use Titanium Backup. I'm sure there's a more lightweight application to check, but TB shows your System, Internal, and SD storage as separate bars.
I'd say the best way is to go to manage applications and look down at the bottom. It will say internal storage.

Just go to Settings>Storage and towards the bottom it will say Internal Storage. It will give you total space and available space.
Guys.... I love multitasking and love memory available so ...
I was looking into ram manager app and suddenly came over this app named SWAPit.. It's supposed to expand ram by making a swap file. Any opinions? Or other suggestions?

Did you dowload it??
Maybe you could give opinions so we all can learn...and not download if it's ****e
Since setcpu and juice defender fall into placebo apps category, me thinks this falls into the same category as solar charger.

I don't think this will improve performance. Usual Linux based OS use a swap partition. You can use one in Android too, but no devs recommends it. So i think devs don't recommend to use swap, because it doesn't improve performance.
Yes, swap partition will "extend" the RAM but the truth is Android has its own mechanim to manage apps, so if you're low on RAM, instead of killing an old app you'll slow your system as it will use the swap partition (or file) which is much slower than RAM.
So, let Android do its job !
I will give it a try and report back.

I don't think this is a problem but I would like to know if there is a way I can keep the used RAM on my One X below the 700 mark without having to use the task manager to close apps. Even when I have closed all apps and nothing is open I still have 600mb used. I'm running latest version of viperX and it runs perfectly.
If there is a way I can clear some memory I would appreciate the help thanks

Welcome to Linux. Free RAM is wasted RAM.
Hello Guys is it good to use Advanced task killer on stock rooted rom XXLMI? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Thanks

I use it for killing unused apps freeing my RAM.
Especially the One Button Task Kill is a good thing that comes with it.
It doesn't kill your Launcher, but then if you're dependant on music using DSPManager its a good idea to exclude DSPManager in the list.
A very handy app and its my first choice task killer.
i did used that app for awhile but not quite satisfied with it since after i click the clear memory button the running program that hv been cleared will run again after sometime.so its hard for me when i played games(mayb i didnt know how to use it correctly.lol) a lil out of topic,if i may sugget mayb u can try autokiller memory optimizer apps since it also come with some tweaks, and it has a setting configuring how many hidden apps, empty app can be run.it also hv the same one clik memory reclaim.im still using it till now.
Thanks guys
