[SOLVED][Q] camera Flash turned off my device..? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my camera flash, when I take a picture and the camera flash is on the device turned off
but if I do that and the device on charge mode it is working fine ..!!
this it happen after I flash CyanogenMod-7.1
I do full wipe and super wipe and I do system format and date format and I delete every thing it can be deleted in the recovery options but the problem still there, even different ROM's installed ..!!
can anyone help
thanks

I kinda have the same problem, when I turn it on to use it as a flashlight, after a while it will reboot my phone (mine is set on high power though). I'm guessing it draws too much power, not much you can do about it if you're not a dev/know a way to reduce flash voltage.

CM-7 problem
Hi, buddy. I would advise not to flash any Cyanogenmod ROMs on your device. I had the same shutting down problem. After I flashed CM-7.1, my phone would boot and then on the screen, my battery would show as completely down and then the phone would shut down. I tried different solutions for it, but to no avail.
I've heard a lot that CM-7 is one of the best ROMs around. So I did try it many times on my device, but it has always disappointed me with one or another problem.
If you really want to go for a Sense-less ROM, go for MIUI ROM. It's great, runs smooth and extremely good for battery life.

Calibrate your battery.

Flash CM 7.2. Clean flash. Does this problem still happen then?

Do you have a spare battery or a friend with a DHD? Try using another battery in your phone and see if this still happens. Problem could be with worn out battery, since it works fine while charging. I don't know much about battery technology but maybe the battery can't provide that sudden burst of power needed to fire the flash because it's worn out/defective.

Hey, buddy, don't spend extra bucks on buying a new battery. I m sure there is nothing wrong with the current battery of ur DHD. The problem is with the ROM itself. Try flashing another ROM.

Try a test using it plugged in to the outlet. Then it'll have all the power it needs.

I'm facing the exact same issue.USing the camera flash shuts down the phone and I can revive it only by pulling the battery out.
How did you finally resolve the issue?
Was it a battery problem?

I have experienced this problem occasionally. I don't think it's cm7. I first noticed it happening when my phone was stock. I've since changed to cm7 and it occasionally happens but no worse than before. I assumed a hardware issue from dropping the phone.

I bought a new original battery form HTC and everything same to be OK for now, So I want to announced about this problem it caused by the battery it self.
I think it is very sensitive to the heat after I use the FLASHLIGHT apk in CyanogenMod-7.1 ROM..
So if you have experience problem like my problem just change the battery and you well solve that problem //:laugh://
Thanks to everyone tried to help me..

Legitimately bricked my phone, just want an expert opinion

Running viperROM 5, went to clear my battery stats and hit clear dalvik on accident without realizing it. No big deal, went to boot up phone and it hung at the samsung screen for over 10 minutes so I just thought I would flash back to stock and reflash the ROM. The original reason I went to wipe battery stats was to calibrate my battery, which was almost dead. I switched to a spare that I thought was full, started odin, left the room, and came back to odin saying FAILED. Phone is completely unresponsive, the charge light will not even come on when I plug it into the wall or laptop. The computer does recognize when I plug it into the computer but it doesn't know what it is. Gonna sell it for parts on ebay unless someone here knows something I don't, thanks in advance =/
Even though Odin failed... cant you still get into download mode ?
if you can i recommend using any cable other than the stock one
I dont think your developing anything here so i would say this will get moved to the appropriate thread.
Your battery died. Odin consumes a great deal of battery power. Unfortunately, it failed so you can not charge your battery through your phone. If you get a new battery or charge your battery exteranlly, I bet you can get into download mode again and odin

This is what I was hoping to hear--I'll give it a try, thanks!
Sorry this is in the wrong place, not sure where it should have gone instead >.>
I have heard, though never tried myself so take it as the unfounded rumor that it is, that it is possible to get the phone to boot in some fashion with the battery out of it, then insert the battery while it is on to "jump start" the charging.
I hope I never have to try it because it sounds like it has lots of potential for problems, but if your phone is well and truly dead what do you have to lose?

This actually worked! I can get into download mode, although I don't know if the battery is really charging or not. Either way I'm in good shape, I just don't understand why neither battery would boot into download mode when one of them had about 10% left.
Also this clearly belongs in Q and A, sorry!
Even without the battery as long as your phone is plugged in with the USB it should go into Download mode ... i think
Everything is back up and running, thanks everyone =)

As usual, a claimed brick is FAR FROM a brick, and despite all the notices shouting at them, people continue to spam up the dev section. Come on, people.

The size screen stay the same when I flash back a Sense 3 Rom as Revo HD & others.
Have you any idea?
Thanks

Edit:
Something strange, when I take a screenshot the size is 480*800... :/
That's perfectly normal it's supposed to look like that.
Are you sure!?
I haven't already noticed that during 15-16 months :/
Hey,
i have the same issue since i flashed LeeDroid v5.1 and 5.1.1 (i still have the Rom and the issue). I remember that some time ago Lee had some wrong drivers for the touchscreen in his rom that had the same effect. It was in his v.3.. i think. But after an update it dissapeared. I never read of others users mentioned this for LeeDroid v.5.
As Lee's Rom is not an ICS Version, i think that it doesn't have something to do with ICS. I hope somebody knows how to help us
EDIT: While thinking about Lee's Touchscreen drivers i am not sure if it the problem was that 1mm of the screen was missing at the edge or that the screen didn't react on touchinputs at the edge of the screen. But its a fact that my screen looks like yours! And it didn't look like that all the time and with all the other roms i had.

Here you go i'm using miui v4 btw but i just checked and it was the same on gingerbread. The reason they did this was because of when you tilt the device slightly you still see the full screen as the screen is slightly below the glass your pressing on.

The 1mm gap is 100% not normal. After flashing a sense4 rom i could see how it hapens. After the reboot the screen just got small. There is now a 1mm free black space at the right side off the desvice and an 0.3mm space on the top of the device. The "black spaces" are touch responsive. Thats a driver issue.

Here you go.
PS: I dislike you XD, na just joking tho i didn't notice before and now i do......
It's not a resolution issue but aspect ratio issue...i don't think it's that big of a deal but do you get same results with GB roms?
Turn DHD over
Heya, just noticed that on the back of the phone says HTC.
J/K
1mm
So there is an fix for that? Because i think thats not an hardware issue. It happened when flashing primoS v3.3 Sense rom.

Don't take this the wrong way but it's all in your head you noticed this when you flashed sense 4 and you were expecting bugs. So you notice smaller things including screen miss-alignment.
Trust me if everyone had this problem you would see alot more questions in this subject. Be my guest tho and do a factory reset, but i'm pretty sure it's a hardware fault that has always been there you just never noticed before like i did damn you (T_T) .

Then what's stopping you from fully resetting your device that should fix it shouldn't it?
I really don't care what you do i'm just giving my piece of advice, one thing you could try is going into boot loader mode (power down device and then press on button+volume down) if it still has it that means youre device has a miss-aligned screen.
^^
Stay calm men
I have to try to flash a Ruu on my device and see if the "problem" change. Maybe this is not a problem
We have to see. But if we found a man which hasn't it can we call that a problem?

It's not only the primos rom. I've realized this since this thread is started and I'm on IceColdSandwich.
How ever, you have to send it to HTC cause of the issue and use your warranty. There is nothing you can do with flashing a new ruu oder rom.
Regards.

But how this can be? Some magic troll got under the screencover and made the screen smaller? Because the screen is not moved in the device or anything. I know that there is an hardware issue on some phones that the screen is wrong aligned but thats not our case, because the screen got 1mm smaller on each side of the phone. its most likley an software issue.
Has any of you tried boot loader mode? If the issue still persist over there it's a hardware fault as you can't change the boot loader.

Help diagnosing battery drain

Hello all. I recently bought a gsm galaxy nexus used from a person who said that the "screen turns on by itself sometimes." It was rooted and so I assumed he just flashed something wrong and was having some side effects. Long story short I have flashed the nexus back to stock and re rooted it and currently have Xylon with purity 5.0 and uglh1 radio (figured it would be the best radio since I am in the US) but I am getting terrible battery life. The best I have gotten is 6 hrs with less than an hr on screen time. I have replaced the battery but that hasnt helped so if anyone can look at the screen shots and help me trouble shoot I would be very grateful Thank you.

Thanks anarkia for replying. I wanted to keep the first post fairly short so people could read it quickly but I left out that I have been through three different roms and even more kernels with no luck with the battery. So I dont have reason to believe your kernel has anything to do with it but I will definitely check out the wiki to see if their is any general info pertaining to this situation!
Edit: So after looking at the wiki I tried typing "powertop" into terminal emulator as su and its saying that its not found
Edit2: Dug a little bit more into the wiki and disabled auto location updating. Will test to see if that helps.

This is very frustrating. It seems like the battery drain is something different every time. I managed to squeak out 8.5hrs of battery life yesterday with about 1.5 he's screen on time. According to the battery usage screen its always the screen draining most of it though...

I'd say the phone is due for repair. Its clearly not a software problem since you tried different ROMs. I assume you also tried 100% stock?
The screen shows unusually high energy drain.

Stock was one of the first things I tried. I am hoping that it is something else because I bought the phone used and am unsure how I would go about trying to get a warranty replacement. Any ideas? Also I keep seeing one activity under Kernel Wakelocks called vbus-tuna-otg with really high times on it but if memory serves OTG is something to do with powering usb devices isnt it? Only thing that gets plugged in like that is my laptop but thats just to transfer and stuff.

So did it get resolved??
I think its due to problem in usb port, resulting in phone not going in deep sleep, and hence draining battery super fast.. I know the cause, but cant figure out the solution

Hasnt been resolved. Odd enough I had a slight taste of what good battery was like after i randomly changed my wifi settings to only search for 2.4ghz. Drove to work and only lost 1% on the drive over so I plugged it in to get it fully charged and test it and then it was draining fast again. Havent been able to recreate that situation since.

Time and Date Reset on Battery Swapping...HELP

Hi all,
I purchased a second battery for my DHD to reach the 24 hours without a battery charger, but I noticed something very unpleasant.
After replacing the battery, time resets and the date goes back to 1980 so that I have to set them every time..
I even tried to open and then immediately close the battery cover and that is enough to reset the time and date.
I was wondering if this thing is normal ...
Does the DHD have a backup battery inside?
Maybe someone can be so kind to try to remove the battery for a moment and then put it back to see if it resets the date and time, to let me know if my DHD has a hardware problem?
Thank you in advance ! :good:
PS: I have Cyanjogen 7.2.0 ROM
Its normal.
It resets an internal counter
It's strange, I also foun pictures of the DHD mainboard showing the button backup battery near the main battery connector...duno what to think...

Time is just as it was it even changed to 20:00 while off (from 19:58).
Could someone be so gentle to :fingers-crossed: try to pull for a while the battery to see if the Date and Time reset?
So I can understand if the issue is caused by My ROM of from bad Hardware.
Thank You! :cyclops:

I might disagree, if i leave it out for some time it just boots with the correct time and date for me. Even if i leave the battery out for 5 minutes.
Will try now to be sure if this still is the case.
Edit: had the battery out for 10 minutes and the time and date were still correct.
Mind you i have never had the battery out for long in this 3 year old phone.

I found old posts in wich was even suggested to leave the DHD without battery for 14 Hours to reset the time ad date so to avoid a bug that made the phone restart even if was choosen the poweroff option.
I think some of us (me too) have the backup battery completely discharged.
The problem is that i don't know how to recharge it...
Can't even find an app to monitor this battery, or some hidden menĂ¹...
For me whenever i pull the battery, the time resets. Its fixed by going into date and time, unchecking auto detect and rechecking it

Hey, and yes a defective battery can certainly cause havoc on your phone's ability to turn on/off, and stay on. I recently got a ZeroLemon 7000mah battery for my s3, and it seems if I remove it a certain way, it somehow completely corrupts the ssd and I have to go into recovery and format data...
Anyway, try buying a new battery and see how that goes. They're about 10 bucks on Amazon.

I have a Samsung SGH I747M, that constantly reboots especially when using it, like using the camera and games..
It happens less often when it's charging, so I am wondering before I buy a battery if that could cause it to reboot....

What is usually is the power button is maybe really sensitive to touch, or it's sticking which would cause a lot of reboots without you knowing it.

Why do you remove it? If your phone freezes, Holding the power button for 10 seconds reboots.

Well I have great news!!!!!!
Here's the story.......plz read carefully....
I have a Samsung galaxy SGH I747m originally from bell, it would randomly crash and reboot even when am not using it,It would also crash repeatedly when I use the camera or playing modern combat or temple run..I have tried about 13 different custom roms and the stock Rom(4.1.2).I tried resetting the phone.I tried the dummy file generator to no success. I pulled the phone and cleaned around the power button. I unrooted the phone, to no success.still got the annoying crashes and reboots.probably about 10 times per day...I was so frustrated and was planning to destroy the phone..to my surprise it was a simple fix..
The problem was simply the battery, I bought a baterry and have been using the phone for 3 days now without any crashes or reboots. I wasnt convinced it was simply the battery so I changed back the old battery and boom#! The phone restarted!..
So now I was 100% sure it was the battery..
So before you go trying all different manner of evil consider testing your battery first.. you can message me if you have any questions..
And remember the galaxy s3 is a great phone once its not giving any problems so don't go buy an iphone!!

This was the old battery I had in that was causing the reboots.it is made in China and was bigger and fatter than the other battery..

This is the new battery that I bought.it is made in Vietnam and is slimmer and lighter..
People just test your battery first before doing anything else if your phone keeps rebooting and crashing..

Hey mine too! Since last week the charging became extremely slow and the battery indicator is not accurate. It may take 1 hr to drop 1 % and then suddenly drops 10% within minutes. Also random reboots. Did you change your battery?
Get the battery made in Vietnam. This is likely the Samsung OEM. All ones made in China are not and may be of inferior quality and/or not fit properly.
India is also a Samsung OEM supplier but it seems all Samsung batteries I've seen are made in Vietnam.
Replace Li batteries when they fall below 80% of their original capacity ie SOT. A degraded Li is more likely to fail.
Signs of battery failure:
Swelling, replace immediately
Erratic charging
Sudden drop in capacity in a short time
Symptoms like the OP describes
Replacing the battery is not a big deal, do it before it fails. A failed Li can easily destroy the display or even the whole phone.
