Files not Updated at MTP - Acer Iconia Tab A100

When connect my A100 to a PC via MTP, found some of the files deleted/moved not accurately shown inside the file manager of PC. The files, which had been deleted/moved via apps of tablet earlier, are still shown in the original location but are unable to be opened.
The database/index of the MTP program seems corrupted, is it possible deleted the MTP data and force a rescan?
Pls help, thanks.

Found a solution from other forum:
1) clear data of the "Media Storage" app
2) rescan the files via the "SDrescan" app (which can be downloaded from Play Store)

I had started a thread on this issue back in december, still having issues on Jelly bean on my xoom (I know it's a different device, but same issue).
On Honeycomb, I had problems, sometimes files would not be updated even after reboot. Now I'm on JB, having the same issue, so it seems to be a MTP issue that's independent of android version.
I have tried SDrescan, but it doesn't always work. Did SDrescan fix this issue on the Iconia?
btw, my workaround was to not use MTP, and install a samba share app instead. There are a few samba apps in the market, and you have to have a wifi network, but it's pretty solid compared to MTP.

Yeah, "SDrescan" fixed my problem at A100. Btw, "AirDroid" also a very good solution via Wifi....

Thanks for the information !
I had a Samsung S4 with exact the same trouble. (running 5.0.1 original Samsung ROM)
Did delete Media Storage Data and restarted the phone.
After that the display via MTP was fine... no need for SDrescan.
I did know already about the fact that i can restore pictures, videos and coverart on music with that trick... i was not aware that this also affects the standard file-handling for mtp.

Mac File Transfer ?

I'm currently using aokp build 3. I have tried everything from MTP to PTP, use debugging to non usb debugging, Kies, Android File Transfer. Nothing seem to work. The only thing seem to be working is Airdroid which is really slow for any large file. So how do you guys transfer file on a custom rom with mac?

i am experiencing the same issues and have been for a very long time. when i first got the phone i could connect with Android File Transfer but no longer . I am running stock rooted. When I have experienced with ROM FILES, I have just put my SD card into an adapter and put it directly into my computer. This is also the safest way to transfer the file without risking corruption.
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET MTP/PTP or UMS to work?? UMS would be preferable for me.
Here's a quick fix for doing a half-assed job of what you need. I am a fellow Mac user.
Download "SGS3 Easy UMS" (google it) APK to your phone. Install.
Connect your device to your computer. If you have Kies, it'll start saying "Connecting..." but it'll never connect.
Pop open SGS3EUMS, and click "Mount UMS" or whatever it's called.
Make sure you're rooted (shoulda said this before).
Boom. Pop open your finder. Send files to your external SD.
---
Can't do Internal SD, or get KiesMac or even Andriod File Transfer working after flashing CM10, or any custom ROM. Stock worked beautifully.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus 4.2.1 Can't see all files when via USB (MTP)

I have a galaxy nexus running 4.2.1. I have been having this issue since the update to 4.2. I am not able to see all files when I have my device connected to a pc via USB. When I navigate to the folder on my PC it can be empty or missing the file I am looking to transfer to my PC. I am not sure if this is a 4.2 issue, but I have not have this issue in previous versions. I am able to transfer files via my websharing app, but these files are movies and are over 1 gb in size on average so I would like to get this working. Let me know what you guys think.
Oh I have this same issue on 4.1.1. This is very frustrating. Sometimes, some files even fail to copy to PC.
Overall, the file listing and copy operations from Galaxy Nexus to PC is very unreliable. The file copy was rock solid and even faster on my HTC Desire.
However, I can see all files and copy them successfully using an app called Airdroid, over Wifi.
This issue should not happen anymore after ICS, but try deleting the .nomedia file in your folders, this file tell the phone to not scan in that folder. Reboot, then wait for the media server to rescan, then plug it in.
If that don't work, clear your Media Storage's data (Settings -> Manage apps -> All -> Media Storage), then delete the folder "/sdcard/Android/data/com.google.providers.media", reboot and let it rescan for 10mins.

That did it! Thanks for the info!!!
I am actually still having this issue on my galaxy nexus running 4.2.1. I am running a stock OS and not rooted. I am not sure what else I can do. After further testing I have come to find that I am not able to access any newly created file on my device when connected by a USB cable to a computer until I restart my device. I even went to the trouble of doing a factory data reset. I am able to access new files from my device or wireless via the websharing app, just not via USB to my computer running windows 7 32bit. I am not sure if an app I have installed could be causing this issue. All I know is I never had this issue with ICS. Let me know what you guys think. I am at a total loss with this.
Had same issue not sure of fix but found if i rebooted computer and device when i plug device in again it sees the new files, its like the computer only sees whatever files are in phone at the point of first viewing phone sd folders, so any changes after that arent registered until computer is rebooted.
I think rebooting gnex also helps embed any changes to files and folders.
Its a hassle but it works

Just in the even that someone needs help with this issue. I ended up installing an app called "Rescan Media". All you have to do it tap the icon for this app, you will see a flicker on your phone and your computer will be good to see your new files.

Thank you for the advice.

USB to PC/Mac on JB

Hi all,
Going insane trying to get my One-X connected to my pc and mac as a USB drive. Seems to have lost the option since JB update i think.
Any ideas? Trying to dump some apk's, uccw widgets and other work files on phone for later use and don't seem to be able to anymore.
Help very much appreciated.
It works as MTP now, not Mass Storage.
Try Airdroid from the play store, it's pretty neat (it gives your phone a secure web interface).
Windows supports MTP quite well (if you have a very recent Media Player installed) but not so good on Mac and Linux, although not impossible.

Thank you very much. Few extra steps to get files to phone but it works so i'm happy again. Seems crazy they removed an easy way to transfer files but airdroid did the job.
Cheers
Yeah, it's not ideal. I haven't managed to get MTP to work on Linux yet (not tried very hard).
The advantage of MTP over Mass Storage is that when you mount as USB, Android can't see the drive anymore, which means many apps can't run, and other weird behaviour like alarm tones revert if the tone used to be on the sd card.
Android File Transfer from Google makes MTP work in Mac OS X:

Some linux distros support MTP. Ubuntu, for example, although it hasn't been officially backported to some older releases. But it is available for older releases in a developer's third-party ppa. Unfortunately, I can't post the link. Still, I prefer USB mass storage to MTP. But I'm going to try MTP for awhile and see if it grows on me.
I noticed that there are a number of apps that come up in the Android Market / Google Play Apps if you search for "USB mass storage", but I haven't tried any of them. There are also third-party apps that provide file sharing via wifi using samba or ftp. Not exactly what you're looking for, but I thought I'd mention it. ES File Explorer is an example. I use it, and like it, but I haven't used the particular features I just mentioned because, until my recent upgrade to JB 4.2 I didn't need them -- I used USB mass storage.
In a thread on AndroidCentral, someone said google does not want to use USB mass storage. I don't know if that's true, and if it is true, I don't know what google's reasons are for abandoning USB mass storage.

I tried this without success. At this point, I forget what the problem was, because I've tried so many different things. I think I was unable to get read-write access. It was read only. Not sure, though. But it didn't work for me.

I tried a couple of these and they did not work reliably. I have a large git repo that I was trying to clone, and it would either silently fail mid-way (using Samba Filesharing for Android by funkyFresh), or git would complain about corrupt/missing objects (using Servers Ultimate by Ice Cold Apps). The latter also has an NFS server, but I wasn't able to connect to it. I kept getting a clnt_create Program not registered error. All of the problems here with both the samba servers and NFS could be specific to my hardware and software environment, and/or configuration settings. YMMV.

I tried a ton of these. The only one that looks promising (for my device) is Multi Mount SD-Card Lite by rafoid. I hope it works out. Haven't tried cloning my git repo yet. Again, my experiences could be specific to my hardware and software environment. YMMV.
Off topic: Along the way I found AirDroid. Looks pretty cool, but doens't look like a solution to the problems in this thread.
You can try this mod and see if it works for you. It is really 2 lines on a terminal:

It worked for me before to force my phone go into mass storage mode. I haven't used it for the latest mods.

That's a good idea. I sorta tried that, and it didn't work for me, but it obviously has worked for other people. I say "sorta" because I didn't use a terminal, but used an app in the Marketplace wihich is supposed to do the same thing. The app is USB mode switch for SGS1 on CM by Zatta. It's the subject of a thread here (showthread.php?p=21505914). I would post the link to the thread, but unfortunately I can't post links.

Just download a Terminal Emulator on Google Play. Search Terminal and the first one should work. Make sure you give it root privilege, as you are modding system files. Hope that helps!

I put CM10.1.2 on my phone a few days ago. Until today, whenever I plugged it into my computer it would go into mass storage mode as expected and everything was fine. Then, I installed Button Savior, which required me to enable USB debugging mode, and after that it connected in MTP mode every time. If I tapped the notification it would give me an option to uncheck MTP mode, but tapping that any number of times had no effect (the checkmark wouldn't go away). I tried the solution suggested in the linked thread, but now it's even worse. It no longer connects in MTP mode, but it doesn't connect in mass storage mode either. Now, it connects in something called "installer mode" with no option to change anything. It shows up in Explorer on my computer, but when I try to open the drive the computer asks me to insert a drive.
Any idea how I get my mass storage mode back?
Odd, teamchopsticks pulled USB mass storage from cm10.1 because of crashes when disconnecting from the computer.

MTP problems (folders show as files, contents never update, etc)

Hello all. I had been having some problems using MTP with my Moto X (I always have had problems with MTP on any device tbh). First off, I was noticing that file and folders made on my Moto X never seemed to show up on my PC when connected via MTP. I tried to remedy this issue and force an update (as per this thread). I used the SD scanning app found here. Apparently I shouldn't have done this with my Moto X, because now all folders in MTP show up as files, and are not able to be opened anymore. I've tried reconnecting my phone, and I've tried enabling/disabling MTP. About to try a full reboot. (EDIT: full reboot didn't fix)
Did I just derp this install of my phone? Great... back to square one.
How do I get the stupid files to update automatically with MTP. It absolutely frustrates me that it doesn't seem to know when a folder has been added.. I understand the differences between mass storage and MTP, but wtf... I should be able to at least access files and folders 2 days old.
Edit 2: Which Windows services does MTP use?
