[Q] From symbian to android - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 General

So here is my problem:
I have done a lot of modding on symbian OS but now on android I am really confused...More I search and read the threads for noobs here more I get confused,So finally I thought of making a new thread....
Q1. In symbian I used JAF to flash rom everytime but now in android I sees that use can do it from phone with zip file only.....Exactly when we will have to use odin in our android and when stock recovery.....
Q2About cwm-I see diff. version of it hanging around can someone give me a link to best one....Is cwm by madteam ok..
Will flashing a rom from odin remove cwm...
Q3 Kernel how to install it(proper steps please and do not tell to to refrence some other thread becoz it makes me confuse)...Is merruk's kernel good for daily use and bugless(atleast better than stock)...What features it give and how to use those features....
Q4 In symbian I remember there was always description of max free ram in cfw but no one cares here why.....In my phone I get 200mb RAM consumed will cfw decrease the ram consumption and if yes then which one is best...Also what exactly is swap is it like page file in windows....Also what is ext partition...
Q5 While formating the phone to can we make the backup of messages....

A5) yes, message along all things backuped by cwm
A3) intall kernel via odin
merruk, it shown ram as
189 or 289(in short buggy)
A2) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1713518

So this means I should not install any custom kernel for now....
Also what is adreline/supercharger are they just a collection of scrpits which necessarily require custom kernel to work..

Permanent cmw is only available in merruks kernel.. It's not final yet.. Still has some bugs..
Cmw can be flashed from stock recovery so no need of permanent one.?

Yeah,But it still has some bugs..you cant flash any custom rom after flashing the kernel..a2sd darktremor doesnt fully work etc..
Merruk is now uploading a new kernel so cant wait to get hold of it!!
in that case he/she will stick on the non-built.in CWM but for me better stick on stock rom and downloads ICON PACKS and LAUNCHER and merruk kernel with andrenaline script/tweaks so my mobile wont lag even i reach 200+ Ram

{PRO} [Q&A] All Xperia pro/MK16i/a iyokan Related Questions Here

Hello everyone,
if you can understand me it's very difficult digging out pro questions on the arc questions forum. Also some questions are pro specific so cannot be answered by people who are not pro users(me thinks). So please ask all pro related questions here.
Request to mods -- Please make it a sticky
A Requst to everyone.. Please read the questions below before posting.. If you have questions any other than this then please ask otherwise dont crowd up the thread unnecessarily..
Q] How do I unlock my bootloader..?
A] Check this out.. This is the official way to unlock the bootloader
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
Q] How do I root my device..?
A] Well there are many ways to get root access on your device.. You can try installing some custom ROMs or you can root the official firmware too. If you want to root the official firmware there are two ways..
1) For locked bootloaders
Make sure you are on firmware .58 or lower.. Firmware .62 cant be rooted with DoomLords root exploit or OneSuperClick.. Then use the DooMLord's root exploit to root your device..
You can get the .42/.58 firmware here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642480
You can get the DooMLord's root exploit here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320350
2) For unlocked bootloaders
Best way I would suggest to use a custom ROM but if you want to stick to the stock firmware there is a stock based kernel with root access and recovery. Flash it via flashtool.
You can get the kernel here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642480
Q] Which kernel or ROM should I use..?
A] This all depends upon you and what type of user you are. You can try flashing different kernels and ROMs and use them for a while(1-2 days) and then decide which ROM suites your use. You can get the list of all the ROMs and kernels on ameer1234567890's thread. If you are too lazy to search it here it is - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642480
Q] I'm on a SIM locked device and can't unlock my bootloader the official way but I would like to try all these ROMs available what should I do..?
A] Contact Alejandrissimo or Jinx they do it for a small fee.
Q] I see a custom ROM there for the Neo/V and as the pro and Neo/V have almost the same hardware can I flash it on my Pro..?
A] NO.. NEVER DO IT.. Maybe the pro and the Neo/V seem to be same but the hardware and the drivers on both the divices are different.. Dont try to cross flash any of the ROMS or the kernels you might end up losing your device..
More questions to be added soon..
Regards.
Request to the mods. Please add MK16a also on the topic
It might also be a good idea if the OP for this thread could also maintain an index of all other Q&As on Xperia Pro (like is done on Xperia Pro development master thread).

To enter fastboot you need to get your bootloader unlocked you can get it done by visiting the official bootloader unlock site..
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
After unlocking the bootloader you can get CWM recovery by flashing the kernel posted here depending upon the firmware you use..

No you can't. You need to use the recommended kernel by the op every time. And the stock ROM in case of Sony is not vanilla.

Hi,
where can I find the most newest Baseband and how do I update it?
Is any Baseband "sufficient" for any Rom or are there specifics I need to know about?

Use the baseband recommended by the author of the OP.. i would personally recommend baseband 64.. it gives a better battery life than others.. you can find baseband 64 in the fxp op..

Difference between FXP and CM
I just don't find an answer to that, perhaps i'm not clever enough, but i've seen the question a couple of times but i never found an answer.
[EDIT]
now i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604170
in the last post there is the conclusion
CM9 is firmware, is a source
FXP is a team which assembles firmware for Xperia phones from cm9 sources making it workable on our smartphones.
Click to collapse
this could only be true for CM9 but not for CM7, because when i look at http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=iyokan there are nightly builds for CM7 and here http://uploaded.to/folder/i4fex9 you can see that they are almost equal by size..
and the changelog for FXP says most of the time only "latest cm 7.2 fixes"..and since i've seen many posts where people said they used the CM7 nightly for their Pro and it was the same as FXP i don't get whats the difference between these two.
Since i did not find any CM9 builds it could be that the conclusion is true for CM9...but since there is no repository for the device at freexperias github i don't think they make changes to the source by themself, just compile it so its CM9 compiled by "Team FXP" if i get it right

Can I install any Kernel with any ROM? For example DoomKernel With Stock ROM or another custom ROM?
Why?
I have my xperia arc s rooted (as checked by root checker) and with busybox and superuser and even CWM and everything... but when flashing the kernel it tells me FAILED (remote: The Device must be rooted first)... what is wrong?!
Enable USB debugging and then try re-flashing
---------- Post added at 01:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:25 PM ----------
It depends some custom ROMS require a specific kernel for it... for e.g. CM9 requires it own FXP kernel because CM9 cant run with the stock kernel or with any over
always check what kernel you need when installing a custom ROM or if installing a custom kernel on a stock ROM check if it works

You have to unlock your Bootloader 1st in order to Flash a Custom Kernal....
Search the General or DEV section for Bootloader unlocking information .....
depends what the rom has
Lemme put my question here: is there any other way to flash kernel other than using fastboot? On my Desire I just flashed them through recovery or with Kernel Manager.

Kernel for 800x CDMA ?

hey guy i really hate to be "that guy" but ive really have been all over this forum for the last 2 weeks looking for a solid Kernel for the R800x and the only one i can find that works 100% is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605631
problem is i feel really cramped on the Data partition. is there anything like this Kernel that has the bigger 600mb+ data partition?
everything else ive tried either just flat out wont boot, has broken WiFi or some other issue. and due to most of the links being broken on this forum its very hard to track down any of the hard work thats been put into this little wonder.
any help with links to actual downloads would be greatly appreciated!
im by no means a flashaholic so i dont need recovery baked in or any thing crazy. i just need OC with large data Partition & working Wifi. :fingers-crossed:
Sadly your best option for kernel is Doomkernel released April of 2012. I don't believe lupus ever made a working cdma kernel. I may be incorrect. Before switching to a GSM play. I was on the R800x. Sadly your options are limited. 90%+ of the devs here used GSM.
I would look for doomkernel for cdma and then perhaps a search for lupus cdma kernel. If I were at my computer I'd do a quick sear h and post results here or send you my doomlernel and wifi modules to you in a link. As I kept all my cdma files.
If you want them let me know and later today I will post a link here for both.

really do appreciate the links, but been to all those places before with not much success. mostly dead links in the OP. i did find a few members posted links near the end of the threads before they get "locked" to mediafire etc but even some of those are dead too or have the Kernel but not the WiFi modules...
my prob with all the different DoomKernals ive tried is they have all been the smaller partition size. also boot times seem to be randomly very long for some reason. like some times more than 3-4 min just in the post screen before even loading the OS. (from what ive been able to get my hands on anyway)
however if you do have files of a nice Doomkernel with the larger data partition size with working Wifi modules id be your best friend! :highfive:

those totally worked. wifi and all!
sadly tho its a kernel with the smaller data partition (not 600mb+) so with both being OCed @ 1.6ghz, i don't really see much of a reason to use it over the Kernel i linked in the OP. the one in the OP seems to have better WiFi performance (if that makes sense?), doesn't require any extra modules to flash and it boots in a few seconds vs the Doom Kernel taking 30-90sec randomly to post before it even hands over to the OS.
i have the files saved now just in case and even tho i dont plan to use them much i really do appreciate you taking the time to upload them for me.
i did get Turbo Kernel working (including wifi) with Slimbean but i cant seem to get Turbo Kernel to have working Wifi with GB ROMs. i really love Turbo kernel. something about it seems so FAST on GB ROMs. but i cant live on 3g in my area and it seems Emus run at about 50-75% of the FPS on JB ROMs.....
i know, i know.... FWP right? lol
thanks again for you help.

Your welcome. Yeah unfortunately when DoomLord made this kernel no devs had figured out the larger system partition yet, or it wasnt available at that time. So yes DK only has the 600mb limit and you do have to manually flash the wifi modules where later kernels its done automatically on boot.
You can use Lupus Kernel but the wifi only works on Statis IP, instead of DHCP. Good luck. And if you got other questions your welcome to contact me I will do what I can.

Developers work for free, they don't work for you. I believe it's hard for you to realize it because you can't understand the work involved here.
You are obviously not welcome to this community.
Hey guys sorry..
But I dint mean that, its possible my words r wrong but my fillings not.:fingers-crossed:
Niraj2704 I honestly don't appreciate ur comments u keep on posting here, right now because of gamerboy-010 I now have kitkat on my Blu life one ( canvas 4). He was generous to share his hard work free of cost,
What do u have to offer this tread apart from your disrespect. Please stop criticizing cause u can port a Rom ok.

You don't need to edit anything. Just flash cwm recovery and rom

Keep one thing in mind before installing. First wipe data - - >wipe cache and dalvik cache--->now format system and install zip. Formating system should be done at last. Dnt wipe cache and dalvik after formating system. Sumtym this thing also cuz error7. Try this hope ur prblm will be fixed.
3G not working
Hi,
Thanks for this KK rom, first rom which is actually working on my A210.
I tried replacing modem.img with suggested fix, but only edge is showing up. Tried stock modem file, tried stock file from A116 as well. No luck.
Can someone point me to the correct modem.img file to be used?
Great rom

Yeah, had tried that as well. Same issue. Will google around for modem.img with same base band and see if I can get the 3G back. Thanks anyways.
