I'm planing on flashing my arc, but I've a few questions first.
the method I'm using is via wotan because I heard is the easiest one (I know i've to paid, but is just 1.99 euro).
I have a xperia arc lt15a 2.3.4 firmware .62, directly from my carrier, ICS hasn't been out for my country yet, I want to flash to the Generic Trade US (4.0.4) (LT15a) once that I flash to that version via wotan it will be compatible with my carrier?? my carrier is from central america and my bootloaders are locked and I dont want to "lock" my phone. I dont care if I will still be only compatible with my carrier, but I just want to make sure that I would still be able to make and receive calls...
another question is: if I dont like it ( ICS ), can I go back using PCC?? or from now on I just have to use tools like flashtool or wotan to change version??????
You can flash 4.0.4 with flashtool, it's free.
And no , after you flash ics you can't go back to gb by pc companion , because your phone will be debranded, so pc companion will say that you have the latest firmware in your phone.
You can get back to gb , by flashing a gb rom by flashtool or using wotanserver.
but by flashing via wotan or flashtool it will not lock my phone and make it unable to detect my carrier (make calls, sms, etc..)??? because this happen to me once with my iphone that the jailbreak update the baseband and got myself a very expensive ipod

Hey I am new to all this so I may get the terminology wrong so be kind.
I just recently bought the r800a variant of this phone from gsmnation and it seems as though this is the rodgers version. It came with heaps of rodgers bloat ware. I am in Australia and the reason I bought it was to work on Telstras 3g network and from the information on gsmnation the r800a is the only one to work with there network, the r800i will not. I believe it is the 850 band for 3g.
http://www.gsmnation.com/sony-ericcson-xperia-play-r800a-nam.html
Now when i was creating this post it showed me this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122643
Which my interpretation is that i can put on a generic rom like the one is this thread http://forum.xda-developers.co/showthread.php?t=1043630
And then all I would need to do is change the apn settings (no idea what this is, and they dont tell me how to do this) and the 3g will work.
My question is, can I put a r800i generic rom (as i cant find a generic r800a rom) and have Telstra 3g work on my phone? This is really doing my head in. I really want all this rodgers stuff gone and I hear the gereric rom gets a 25sec boot time and doesn't have the rodgers boot screen or all the crap.
P.S I was also reading that the rodgers bootloader is locked, is this a problem
hey
im on telstra, but i bought a new telstra handset off ebay for $445(since they can have unlocked bootloaders) all you need to do is flash the world generic and then in settings in the sony ericsson tab click internet settings and boom, it will work, i havent had to manually configure telstras apns at all since ive had the phone.

So just by clicking on the settings tab -> Internet settings it will automatically change the r800i rom to work with the 850 gsm of telstra?
from what im told flashing the generic firmware doesnt actually flash the phones radio, and the phone just uses it as normal, apns are handled the same way regardless of the carrier, so all the phone does is look for the settings to connect to telstras data network and then it works, ur phone will still say its an r800i but it works fine, dont worry about that.
Yep totally fine to flash generic r800i firmware and still access all telstra's network and remove all Roger's bloat. For APNs, if it doesn't automatically set it up, just go to http://configure.telstra.com.au/telstra/index.jsp and follow the prompts.
Has for me, Ive flashed fresh firmware about 5 timeson this phone and never has to do anything more than click internet settings, data connection pops up within several seconds and its good to go, can always use apns manually if you want though.
Thank you all for your responses!!! I will give it a shot tonight and let you know how I fair. Thanks again!
OK so i think i am doing something seriously wrong.
I am trying to get the bootloader unlocked following this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034087
for starters I don't know how to install the drivers, its just a rar archive and when i extract it there is no read me. any help here would be most appreciated.
Also I can't get into fastboot mode. When its off i hold down the search button and connect the cable and a green led comes on not a blue one. I tried the trick with taking out the battery, nothing has worked. I then read a few post saying some phones you cant get into fastboot mode, cause they are sim locked. But my phone is not sim locked as its working with a telstra(australia) sim and it a rodgers(Canada) phone. Or does sim lock mean something different? Please can some one help. I will donate as i am running out of hair to pull out!
You don't need to unlock your bootloader at all! Just use flashtool with the UK generic ftf
1. Grab the firmware FTF file from here-> http://www.multiupload.com/MDS10FFGTT
2. Get the flashtool (credits to Androxhyde and Bin4ry) from here-> http://www.multiupload.com/7H4JT35B6G
3. Name a folder "flashtool" on your desktop, then extract the flashtool's files to it.
4. Extract the FTF file, and put it in desktop/flashtool/firmwares
5. Run X10Flashtool.exe, press the "flash" button, and select the UK generic firmware. Press OK.
6. Follow the instructions on the screen, and you're done.
Go here if you want to root it and update it afterwards-> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116090
thanks you very much for your response I will try that tonight!

OK so I grab the firmware FTF file.
I grab the flashtool and extracted it to flashtool on my desktop
I extracted the ftf file to the /flashtool/firmwares
this is where it got hard
I ran the X10Flashtool.exe, and it asked me to select my phone, play wasn't on the list so I selected x10.
I clicked flash and selected the firmware and then it told me to connect my phone. My phone was off and I held the search button down and plugged in the usb cable(i kept holding the search button down untill the charinging logo appeared on screen). And nothing happened.
This is seriously doing my head in!!!
You need to hold down the back button, not the search one.

Unlocking the bootloader is what requires the search key. Flashtool is the back key. I can see how it would be easy to confuse them.

You cant unlock the bootloader on a rogers phone as it is factory locked. There is a gentleman on these fourms who has the tools to unlock the bootloader remotely but it will cost you a few bucks to do. Search for the thread if your intested, but dont bother trying to get into fastboot without him, you cant

I am using a R800at on T-Mobile, stock (though it is sim unlocked). If AT&T actually ever releases any updates for the R800at, will I be able to get those OTA or will I have to use PC Companion or SEUS? If I did have to use one of those programs with a PC, will it keep my apps/settings, or will it wipe everything during the update process? Thanks!
Hi all,
tomorrow I'll receive Arc S from my local operator - Orange PL.
Phone will be branded, simlocked and bootloader/fastboot-locked.
I'll want to debrand it. And I would ask you what's the best method for debranding, Wotan Server or Flashtool?
As far as I know, Flashtool will flash unbranded firmware but will not change CDA so when I connect my unbranded phone to SEUS or PC Companion it will rebrand again.
On Wotan Server it's written: "Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S CDA Programmin
CDA number is changed to make sure your phone will not revert to previous firmware & branding if you use official Update Service (SEUS)."
Is it safe to debrand and change CDA in Wotan?
What if I need to revert back to my Orange PL firmware and CDA for warranty purposes?
I have Orange PL flash file for Arc S (LT18i_4.0.2.A.0.62_(1255-8690).ftf) but how to change CDA back to 1255-8690 after flashing with Flashtool? I don't want to root my phone. It'll be for my wife and she doesn't need root or custom roms, only debranded soft.
Can Wotan Server can flash back Orange PL flash restoring CDA? Can someone check in Wotan Server client program if there's a 1255-8690 CDA to choose from list of available CDAs?
Thanks in advance. Cheers!
Just wondering how this happened cos it never came up before when I used flashtool.

Really don't know exactly what it does, but generally you don't include this file when you bundle a rom with flashtool, so no harm.

how do i unlock it? That's the whole point of me posting about this.
After i unlock my bootloader, i face this issue. but flashing finished successfully. Sometime it may be a DRM key related item.
Dont flash that file. its simlock data and if you flash it on a phone with different imei then you will kill the phone without any way other than sony service center to fix it.
Don't worry about that, i always get that warning and there was no problem.

I've read this 'simlock.ta' thread with some interest because I have a similar issue myself.. Might you have any suggestions?
In short, my Xperia (Ray) refuses to read my SIM card. In fact, it doesn't even ask me for my PIN number, it just boots as normal but I have no connection to any network. I've tried using the SIM card in another phone and it works fine, therefore the problem is with the phone itself.
I'd recently had my phone network & bootloader unlocked by wotanserver using the test point method - because of this I thought the DRM keys would be fine (e.g. TrackId & Timescape still worked). However, when I was updating from GB .42 to .62 OTA (to flash a GB ROM) my phone bricked! So, I ended up using s1tool to restore the locked bootloader. Then I used flashtool to flash a stock ICS ftf file. It seemed to work (the phone rebooted) but it was then I noticed that the SIM card wasn't being recognised. Also, in the Flashtool log I noticed that a blue line was there saying 'this file is ignored simlock.ta'.
Hard resets & updating with Sony Update Service isn't working and I'm really confused at this stage.
Is my phone screwed for good?
Same Problem with Xperia J

Did you find a solution for your problem?
In reality, I have the same problem with an xperia j (ST26i) , with some differences:
Initial Problem:
- The mobile belongs to my cousin, she updated it with the sony update center to the latest version (JB 4.1.2) and there: problem with the wifi when the sim.
- I got the mobile, and downgrade to the 4.0.4 version, I've tried 4 different versions:
-> ST26i_11.0.A.3.18_Global
-> ST26i_11.0.A.7.5_CE
-> ST26i_11.0.A.3.28_WE
-> St26i_4.0.4_11.0.A.3.28_CE3
I had always the problem with the wifi when the sim plugged.
Finally I've tried also the UNOFFICIAL CM 10, with no success
- I found a solution with the apk wifix manager witch worked with the 28 WE version of the firmware.
But I've continued to search an other solution, and I've remarked that when I flash the rom I always get the Warn: "This file is ignored : simlock.ta "
After some research I get an advice by a member of XDA to rename the file as "preset.ta", AND THERE, it works no warning ... BUT the sim is blocked (not locked) and I have always the message (invalid card).
I've tried to reflash the firmware many times, to relock the bootloader (with appropriate ftf proposed in this forum ), Tried to use the sony update service .. But I have always the same problem (INVALID CARD)
I've also tried to format everything with CWM (system, card, cache) and made a sdcard partition, and NO way.
So, can any body help me with that please?!
Note : I'm in the middle east zone, some suggestions in the web talk about re-installing the official O2 rom, but I've searched this ROM with no success.

Hi everyone. My friend and I tried to flash a custom rom to his Xperia S. so before that we have to root, install recovery and etc.
we succeed on flash everything but that's what we thought. We noticed that the phone doesn't have any network, tried different sim and both from different networks are useless. So we Read and we still can't find any solution.
the phone IMEI is intact
the phone is sim unlocked
the baseband is 8660-AAAABQOLYM-313065-39
the phone is on .96 FTF
we already tried to revert back to .96 FTFs I think the baseband is not compatible with our country Philippines.
we already tried downloading the .96 customized PH FTF from Xperiafirm but still there's no luck.
we already tried repairing through PC companion
we already tried flashing FTFs .200 .211 and.96
Can you help us?

Did You flash a stock firmware using flashtool version 0.9.19.1? It causes sim lock while flashing. It was brought to attention when same problem was aced by other user. Quoting him below.

thanks for the immediate reply. What should we do then? just flash a stock FTF using flashtool with different version from the ones you stated? or we can still use the 0.9.19.1 but we have to exclude the simlock?

That's no use bro. I've tried many Stock FW as well as many versions of Flashtool after getting same problem with my phone. As Flashtool creator wrote "The only way to recover from locked phones is to reactivate them in a service center or to restore the 07DA unit". So, if you don't have TA partition backup made prior bootloader unlocking then you've got an alarm with camera & mp3 player made by Sony. The ASC propose to replace the whole motherboard.
