Red Galaxy Nexus - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I wanted to change the color of my Galaxy Nexus without the added bulk of a case. They never released a white version of the LTE version so a white housing wasn't an option. Only thing I could find were the gray housings for a decent price. SO i figured I would paint my housing red and if I messed it up I could just replace it. I used a Vinyl & Fabric spray found at auto parts stores instead of a spray paint. I used the Vinyl dye before on a Xbox controller and durability was excellent still a year later. Here are the results!
Edit: For those interested first I used Dan1joyce's housing removal YouTube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kp6e5w2jkk4. Then remove the speaker grill, three pogo pins, power/volume rocker. Now mask the inside of he housing with blue painters. Mainly just covering the camera and the internal stuff yo don't want painted. Then I used 800 grit sand paper to scuff up the gray painted areas and used rubbing alcohol to remove all the dust and dirt from housing, battery cover , power/volume. I didn't sand to much just enough for the paint to get into.
Now start spraying the paint. I did a coat ever 10 minutes on all 4 parts using very light coats and just making sure no hair or dust was sprayed over. I used almost the whole can. Then let it dry overnight and put it back together!
I used Duplicolor Vinyl/Fabric spray from local auto parts store which has an adhesion promoter in it and it seems to melt into the plastic giving it a good even look.

Pretty nice.
I done the exact same thing but your one seems a lot more neat.
Did you use heat to mould it around the phone?
How did you cut around the speaker, mic, camera and screen?
Did you take the casing off and apply it like that? or did you just apply it with the casing on the phone?

I wish somebody would start this as a service. I want a royal blue or a matte black.

That looks awesome! Nice job

The only way for it to become a service is if people are willing to send their phone in.
I was thinking of doing it.. but if it picks up its pretty hard for one person to do xx amount of phones. You just cant employ random people.
You cant send people the materials either because they will just mess it up.
I was thinking of renting out a shop or stall when the Olympics starts and then doing the service for people in front of them.... but my current work stops me from doing that.

Looks SWEET MAN!!!

[Q] Scratched Edge

So... I loosened my grip on my Vision while it was on my palm. And it slipped... It did two flips an plop, more like thud in slow motion, onto the tennis court. Yes I took my phone out while doing some tennis warmups. Stupid I know, but I was admiring it. (I got it just recently). Anyway, It did no damage, except a little tiny nick, hardly noticeably on the edge. But if you look closely, it's there. So I was wondering. Is it possible to sand it off or something?
Exact same happened to me just yesterday, except on the top-right.
I'm not too worried because there's always the possibility of a case, but yeah I'd like to know if I can sand it.
Very fine grit (180ish) and go with the grain of the brushed finish. Let us know how it turns out!
Ermmm anymore suggestions or agreement of the sanding w/ 180?
1) You can go ahead and sand it if you want, but you'll just take the paint off and then it'll look REALLY weird.
2) there is no grain. Its not made of wood, and it wasn't brush painted. It was sprayed.
Same thing happened to me. I tried sanding it and it made it look worst, as it takes the paint off. Maybe you could try finding a replacement bezel.
What are half the guys above talking about taking the paint off... its not painted on the metal parts... that's metal... not painted plastic or metal.... its a clear coating... either sprayed or adhesively layed on in the factory

Tape/Mask off screen area and use a Magic Eraser (which is a micro abrasive) on the scratched edge...might take a while but it should help to blend it nicely.

that scratch looks soooooo small... and the g2 has such sex appeal it dazzles the ladies and blinds them and they cannot see past the aura.
It is brushed aluminum. Brushed means aluminum that has been sanded to creat a flat non shiny finish. 180 grit is too coarse. Yes for the first pass at the deep scratches. I would suggest finishing with 320 grit 400 is a little too fine. Get the black sandpaper, it's called wet and dry. it is superior for fine detail work. Use the blue masking tape and tape off first, to protect.

I have the red one and it works. I'm also waiting for the Otterbox Commuter model. Defender model should be out soon.
Have the blue one myself. Like it so far, will always consider seeing future cases that come out, but I have no problems with the original verizon one bought at launch.
I have the blue/ black one. I think it looks great, and honestly I don't see a dust problem with the rubber part unless you have lots of lint in your pocket..
It feels great in my hand, and looks B.A. if you have a blue background.
I have the blue one. I like it a lot, it feel very nice in hand. I haven't had any dust problems with it.
I got the red one and I really like the way if feels in my hand, it's already saved my phone from a fall onto the pavement, however the outer black shell doesn't seem like it was made to completely fit the red inner cover, there's a gap (about 1cm) on the upper left side. Here's some pictures of the case, however I don't have a micro mode on my camera so you really can't see the gap.
Edit: Also, this might just be because I got a defective case (I'm going into verizon today to see about an exchange) sometimes the black shell blocks the charger part slightly so I have to adjust the cover a bit so I can plug the phone in.
Thanks for everyone's response. I can't wait to get mine in.

I will admit that the power and the volume buttons on the double case was a bit more forgiving, but after some use I, atleast hope, think that the silicone with soften a bit. But if I'm going to pay 20 bucks for a case (corp discount) it better fit correctly, lol.
I had the red and black one but gave up on it. It made the phone too bulky and didn't like how it looked.

are you asking where to get a screen, or how to replace the screen?
As far as where, you'll have to do some searching around. Sprint techs like us have the luxury of harvesting screens off returned phones (normally used for repairs)...but epic screens are generally so far and few between i doubt you'd find a tech willing to sell one to you.
If you're asking how, that's easy. Unscrew the six screws underneath the battery cover. Then using a really thin piece of plastic or even your fingernails, begin to pry the area where the bezel meets the glass down both sides and the top (the bezel-back-frame almost fits like a cap on the screen). Then just lift the bezel-frame from the screen in an out then down motion (basically, the top separates first, then you'll have to go down and out to get the bottom part off; you don't want to pry the bottom part straight out so as not to damage the charging port). During this, you'll likely see your headset jack move with the frame, that's ok because it moves pretty freely inside.
Once inside, you'll see two flat Phillips head screws, unscrew those. You won't need to unscrew the third tiny one in the upper right hand corner. There are several cables (3 or 4) that are plugged into ports, just unplug them, nothing fancy. Just make sure you look closely so you don't miss one. Then, the motherboard (which is roughly shaped like an "L" ) just lifts up. Reverse directions to put in a new screen. Easy squeezy lemon Japanesey.

Got the Black Carbon Fiber XO Skins for mine and my wife's gnexs. Shipping took 2 days. The install for these are SUPER easy. Unlike with the clear, you don't have to worry about dust and if you mess up anywhere, you just peel it back and stick it back on. I also used a blow drier to make sure it was all stuck just right. I won't be using a case anymore, just the carbon fiber and the clear screen protector for the front. These have a texture to them and aren't the cheap ones that are printed on ebay

Skin on the front? Or do you mean a screen protector?
@OP, it looks great! Hope it won't leave any sticky residue when after it's being removed.
I was tempted to buy this, then I remembered that I have a pretty good hard case. If I had gotten this, there was no way it'd actually fit in the case.
Sorry, by skin I mean I am using their screen protector. The carbon fiber covers the sides and the back. They say they don't leave anything sticky behind.
Anyone get a Red or Blue that can post a pic so I can add it?
I would love a skin like this but that also adds some protection, something between this and a silicone case.
These things feel pretty strong. I bet they can take a lot
Any comments now that you've had this on for a few months? Any peeling at all? Any scratching, dent/nicks, etc? Getting sick of my case and thinking about ditching it for this. Obviously won't provide drop protection, but I want the scratch protection without having to use one the horrid clear ones.
Still looks good. I haven't dropped it on asphalt or anything, but it seems to hold up well.
It also has a slight texture, I have tried other carbon fiber before that was just slick.
anyone have pix?
I got this skin about 5 months ago. No pealing, though at first it wouldn't stick on the lower beveled edge; I had to hold it on for around 15 min real pain in the ass. I was also fooled into thinking it would completely cover the back of my phone, no slits just 2 pieces it is in fact 5 pieces with gaps. Very disappointed with the appearance.
That being said its a tough skin and I rarely use my case anymore.

Is that a wrap on the side as well? if so then how it feel and does it look like it will peel easily? I could use one on my pebble blue phone where the bezel is purple!
I'm going to give the official flip case a try once I finally get my Verizon version of the SGS3 here in the US. I'm bummed out that it doesn't have a magnetic clasp or anything to keep it closed, but at the same time it's a full on case so the phone should obviously handle drops much better. That all being said, the phone is gorgeous and I'm not gonna want keep it hidden! I have the full protection from Verizon so whatever happens to my phone I'll just get another one anyways.
I'm still on the fence. At this point though I'm leaning more towards no case.
i don't think screen protector is of any use because it is gorilla glass

I actually think my white S3 looks better with a Matt black case, because I like the white border around the camera, flash and speaker which contrasts against the black case, and then the black border around edge of phone, I mean not everyone will like that but I dog
I doesn't peel off easily and yes the side is wrapped. So far all the film that the shop doesn't love residue when it is removed.
It is a rough textured. Sort of like mildly used sand paper.
