VAAS portable battery 5000mAh - total crap - HTC One X

Another attempt at trying to get an external battery that works:
Vaas VM50 5000mAh Dual Port Rechargeable External Battery Pack w/ 6 Charge Tips
It's enough to charge 1 time, although you have to unplug it when charged.
Here's the biggest problem: it seems that if charger has less juice left than the phone battery, it starts sucking the battery out to charge itself.
Yesterday my phone had 46% around 1am at night. VAAS had 2 out of 3 lights on (so above 50%?). When I woke up this morning - my phone was completely drained, and VAAS had 1 light on.
Don't buy it, it's crap. You may get 1 charge out of it, and even then you can't safely leave it overnight.

I am having similiar issue with RAIKKO 5200mAh pack. When you plug it in without turning the charger on, it will look like it's charging, when it fact it will discharge (fast - something like 400mA even with screen off). The same happens when it runs out of juice - it will stop charging, switch off and start "draining" the battery.
When I tried this on my friends Desire HD, it said "charging voltage is too high" and refused to charge until I actually turned it on. So it is an error in both the charger and the phone...
I guess your charger has the same crappy chinese circuitry :-(

I've been successfully using the new Trent 5000mha external battery pack. I got it of amazon and the thing has been faultless in the 2 years I've owned it. The cells are starting to wear now but I can still charge my phone 3 time before re juicing is needed. I think it was around £13 so it was a bargain as well. I use mine to charge the one x ok, but my Samsung galaxy tab it keeps level , I think that machine need 2 amp to correctly charge.
The pack has two outputs, one marked iPad is 1amp and the other is 500mha. I've never had it back charge a from a phone. Just make sure you turn it on otherwise it won't charge the device - the red light come on but no charging happens.

[REVIEW] Official Samsung 1300mah Powerpack

I already posted this in another thread by Trbobuick, but I thought an new thread with a correct title would be of better use...
I just recieved the powerpack, and its not very beautiful, IMHO. The cut out spaces for the power button and the volume rockers makes it look a bit odd.
The material (and texture) used for the powerpack sadly doesn't look like anything on the S2. It stains easier than the phone itself, as it seems.
During charging with the S2 in the powerpack, the phone beeped every few minutes that is was fully charged. (Another user reported it did it only every hour). While you may sleep through only one beep, this powerpack will keep you awake all night. (I am on a stock rom)
And then, if the powerpack (disconnected from mains charger) has charged the phone, the phone has the "remove charger" notification, and this (until now) stays and seems to prevent further charging the phone by the powerpack. (Unless you remove and reconnect the powerpack).
Until now this Samsung Powerpack seems a badly (I am mild) designed thing, unless I don't understand the operation of the powerpack.
Its just an external battery, and more or less behaves as such. That there is a phone fitting inside this external battery seems more like a coincidence as intentional.

I'm not entirely sure how the pack works.... you charge the pack and then the pack charges the phone? So essentially it's a portable charger that draws its power from its own battery?
Yes.
Its just an external battery with a USB pass-through (not all functions of the normal USB plug are passed through, such as HDMI) and this external battery charges your phone.
p.s.
It seems as the powerpack still charges, even if the normal charging icon is not shown.
When I check battery status it (allways) says 4 seconds on battery.....

Yeah it charges, I got 6 hours of medium use before the pack stops charging the SGS2 and it begins using the internal battery.
Battery meter is useless to measure this tho, it thinks it's still on the charger.
Aaaaaand, I gave up trying to charge the pack while the SGS2 was in it because:
1) It charges so very bloody slowly
2) The wake me up thing I get every hour or so
I charge the case on it's own now, thankfully I have a whole bunch of microUSB chargers. But really Samsung? It's not that you haven't had time to improve on the design, considering the SGS had a battery case too.
Mine arrived yesterday, wasnt exactly what I was expecting in terms of size.
As it adds as an external power source, battery stats are useless.
Ran it from 5pm yesterday and my SGII switched over to internal battery at around 5am.
Now charging as standalone to stop the beeping !!

It takes mine ages. I can leave it plugged in for hours and it only charges a bit. Right now Battery Monitor widget estimates 8 hours on "AC" and 12 hours on "USB" for a 100% charge - 3/4 hours from 64%. That's slow, no?
I only get +2-400mA (341mA right now, sometimes less, or more) when plugged into my 5v-1A AC charger. How about you guys?
Any one else got charge times from a program like Battery Monitor Widget?
Takes about 4 hours from 1% to 100%
my HOX is charging.. i plug it at 9% 1 hour and 40 minute ago.. its 71% now..

That's very very slow. Check your cables, are they frayed? Cos I'm currently using the cable that came with my Desire Z and it's starting to fray pretty bad, and I'm only getting about 300-400mAh charge in. Used to charge at around 750+. I switched USB Cables (same charger, just different cables) and my charge rate jumped back to 750. Do note that charge rate slows down the closer it gets to 100%.
Mine took almost 3hrs for 0 to 100% charge.
3-4 hours from 5% to 100%
On the USB in college I get 20% is 2 hours lol on charger about 3 hours.

That's weird then. Maybe I should buy a new cable. Do most of you get 700mA+ readings when charging?
The cable is very new, but I did get it from a shady seller - maybe it has a problem. I will get a new USB cable this evening.
It COULD be the problem? That's only from my own testing though. Try it with a friend's cable or something. Nokia and Samsung phones use the same Micro USB to charge.
Mine will go from 2% to 100% in 3 hour 5 min with an USB charger of 1.5A output.

Unfortunately the HOX is limited to a 1A input charge /:
i'm at my wits end, i bought an HTC one X today, and plugged it to the charger cos it was 7% of energy, it's been off for 3 hours and i turn it on and it says 8%, i'm using the cable and the charger that came with the cellphone, what could i do?, i even got a message while running the setup procedure that the phone consumes more energy than what it receives via AC, what to do? i'm worried

You've got a misbehaving app somewhere. Restart your phone and try again.
with the original charger and cable, it takes me roughly 3 hrs to fully charge my one X from 10%~ to 100%
with the cheap cable I bought and the Iphone charger, it takes me 4 hrs to charge from 9% to 90% ~ about 5 hrs to fully charge ~
I don't use my laptop's usb to charge, and I believe it will take much longer ~
With the official HTC cable that came in the box its taken me 3 hours to charge about 40%. Please someone tell me this is faulty.
Also the battery has never lasted more than 2hours 20 mins on screen with medium/heavy usage. and no more than 1 hour 30 with heavy usage (HD Video/streaming)
ALso when i unplug the charger at 100% it drops down to 90% within 10 minutes and then continues to plummet. I got around 6hours off screen time with music playing before it died.
Anyone have this issue?

The same thing happened to me today. I've noticed charging from a computer's USB gives a higher charge amperage.
I just ordered a 2A USB charger, but I also found that if I power off the phone and charge it, it charges very quickly.

That sounds like a serious problem. I would send it back. Although, you should poke around and see what's consuming all the energy.
Charging times without looking at the battery monitoring application reporting where energy is spent does not help much to understand where the problem is.
If the phone is really idle with good GSM coverage, no particular GSM activity and Wifi switched off, then more than 2 or 3 hours either shows that the charger isn't powerful enough (could happen with a car cigarette-lighter->USB charger or any charger that delivers less than 1A/H), or a faulty charger or battery.
If one has good charging times when the phone is switched off, then the problem is more likely related to the software running in the phone, fiddling with the phone while it's charging (keeping the screen on) or because of RF activity (GSM, Wifi).
So first switch the phone off, charge it at 100%, look at the time it took and if it's okay then look at the battery monitoring app to understand where energy is spent when the HOX is turned on...
what apps or widget do u guys use to see how much current(mA) is being charge to the phone?

mine charges from 25% to full in a little over 2 hrs
thats with the htc charger that came with it an the usb supplied by htc .... i have other leads that i used with my old deisre (non htc) and i gfet a very slow charge time .... i have got from ebay som high quality leads (if 2.99 post free is high quality) and they charge quickly so id say the onex is quite fussy over what leads you use to charge it
mind you im loving the phone have rooted mine and have the leedriod rom which is awsome

[Q] Anyone using Qi charging?

I'm curious if anyone has been using Qi charging with their TabPro? Anyone's comments would be appreciated.
I used a micro-usb Qi coil receiver between my TabPro 8.4 and the Poetic case for a few weeks without issues.
But then something happened to cause the Qi charging pad to overheat. I ended up having to have the TabPro 8.4 replaced by BestBuy as the TabPro would no longer charge at all, even trying different micro-usb cables and 2.1 amp power adaptors. What was even stranger, was the battery continued to drain even after powering the TabPro off! I'm puzzled as to what was damaged, but the end result was the battery went from 41% charge to 7% charge overnight even though it was powered off (not sleeping, but powered off) and not connected to a charger. When I discovered it was at 7% I removed my account info, but even with the charger plugged in, the battery went down to 3% while working on the TabPro. When I checked on it an hour latter it was dead. If I plugged in the charger, after about 20 seconds it would flash the green battery for about a second, then it would go out. No boot, no charging, even after leaving it charging for 24 hours.
So I'm very reluctant to try to use Qi wireless charging on my replacement tab. I suspect the Qi charging pad failed and overheated. There is a spot about the size of a dime where the plastic partially melted on the charging pad. The Poetic case and the TabPro look fine, and the charging pad still acts like it is working. Very puzzling. Any ideas or cautions?

The only thing I can think of is maybe the Qi charging pad failed to deliver 2.1 Amps to correctly charge it (I don't think they even make 1 Amp coils yet? - though I could be wrong.) , maybe the tab went into charging mode but it was really discharging since not enough current was going in that it needed to charge + keep the tablet running so in the end maybe it destroyed the battery since it went completely flat which is usually a bad thing for l-ion battery's
Usually when android says the battery is at 0% the battery really has about 20% remaining for protection of the battery and preventing it from going completely empty (l-ion can really be drained to 2.5v but android reads 0% around 3.4v or 3.2v if i remember correctly as protection from flat-lining the batt), however if it was under charging mode I'm sure it would override this as it thinks it's plugged in so it's not paying attention to the battery, but really the batt is draining to compensate for the underpowered charger, that would be my guess maybe constantly using the Qi charger the battery circuitry changed the battery status from lv 2 (good) to ~ lv 4 (bad) since it wasn't receiving the current it was supposed to and the circuitry thought something was wrong with the battery cells or the battery just went bad since it was always under a charging / discharging state never reaching 100%.
on a side note
I found this tablet to be very fussy when using other chargers then its official one, I have tried several chargers and they just dont function like the stock one for example
HP Touchpad charger 5.3v - 2.0A - Very high quality charger and even won some awards for beating out other chargers - I found this would sometimes not fully charge the tablet to 100% it would idle around 98% (I have two of these chargers) - Charge current starts around 1800 mAh drops to 200 mAh when battery gets full don't think its enough to top it off. (charges at 5v)
10,000 mAh Power-bank (5v , 2.0A), found out this would not fully charge the tablet either it would get to 80%, upon further inspection the 2A port was only delivering about 1 Amp of current according to my amp reader (voltage drop to 4.98)
Samsung official charger (5.3v 2.0A)- though seems to start at a pretty high 5.60 volts (higher then other chargers) , and charges at about 1870 mAh , always reaches 100% with this charger. (I have two of these chargers since I bought another one as backup - both do the same thing)

That could be the case. Yet, for two weeks, the Qi charging had no problems taking the charge to 100%. It would charge a bit over 15% an hour. The Galaxy Charging Current app reported between 670 and 750ma charging current using Qi charging.
At this point I'll likely never know, but it could be the battery itself simply failed on the tablet. My question is mainly to see if anyone else has used Qi charging, and what their experience is. How can I display the battery status (you referenced lv 2 (good) to ~ lv 4 (bad))? The battery app from the Play Store does display "battery health" but I've only seen it say "Good".
On your side note, I occasionally plug the tablet into the USB port on my computer (measures 5.10V), and it charges at about 10% an hour while sleeping, and has repeatedly charged the battery to 100% when I leave it connected. I have an EnrePlex Jumper Prime 4400mAh that measures 5.18V, and charges at 1.5A. It has charged the battery to 100%, though will run out of juice if the battery is lower than 40% before I use it, it measures 5.18V.
I have an old Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 that I often charge via the computer's USB port, although it takes a long time, and it's battery is still fine after almost 3 years.

The battery app from the play store probably does the same thing just shows a status as a replacement of the health, you can see the status with logcat occasionally you will see something like this ---
you might need root for some of these commands., you can use Terminal Emulator , adb shell, or sshd to access these commands.

[Q] Did I fry the battery?

Hi all, brand new but I've been a lurker of the Tmo s6 edge forums.
Anyway here's the predicament. I got my S6E yesterday set it up, used for the rest of the day with no qualms.
When I went to put it on the charger it was at 7%, i thought to myself, I'll use an Apple 5W charger for a slower charge throughout the night.
I figured the slower, low powered charge will be better for the battery.
As it was charging it stopped in the middle of the night at 20%. From there, the phone constantly went from Charging, not charing, charging, not charging; repeatedly until I woke up to discover it at 7:20AM. I plugged in the phone at 2:30AM. It must have been in this charging on/off loop since 2:45AM or so. The phone was pretty toasty. The screen was on and the phone kept making that noise when you connect/disconnect from the charger.
So my question. will 4ish hours of everything i just mentioned fry the battery?
Edit: By fry I mean significantly reduce the overall battery lifetime. The phone seems fully functional.

No, I'm sure it'll be fine. I've used Blackberry and older, non-fastcharging Samsung chargers on mine.
Had the same issue on my S3, it's battery lasted four years (gave it to my brother as a gift).
If you really want to check what's happening, get a $5 USB current monitor plug in adapter on ebay. It shows what voltage it's outputting and the current. I noticed that my old AT&T Note 3 OEM charger's voltage was actually high at 6V or so. This is to charge the device faster, but it didn't work well with any other devices or even portable battery packs.

Zenfone 2 won't charge beyond 85% while charging via Power Bank

My phone is Asus Zenfone 2 (2GB) It.s charger's specifications are - 5.2V , 1.35A. and battery - Li-Po 3000 mAh battery. When charging via the charger, it gets 100% charged.
I recently purchased Ambrane 13000mAH, P1310, Li-Po battery Power Bank with 5 V, 2.1A and 1A output ports.
When charging my Zenfone 2 via Power Bank, the charging stops sharp at 85%. Initially I thought the Power Bank might be faulty, so I drained my phone's battery to 20% and connected it to the 2.1A port again. And surprisingly it charged my phone again to 85% where again it stopped charging.
Now the functionality of the PowerBank says, when the phone is 100% charged, the PowerBank would wait for few seconds and then will automatically shut down (auto disconnect feature). So, I think at 85% my phone signals the Power Bank, that it is fully charged, and now it should stop charging it any further. However, this is just a lame assumption. But neither do I know what changes in the settings do I need to make nor do I know how to get out of this.
A thought - Can the PowerBank be faulty ? ( 1 time charged Power Bank charged my phone 2+ times to 85%, the 3rd time it reached 65%)
You may need to test with a 2nd phone. We do know that charging the phone does slow down once it hits certain levels, but I've never had an issue with the ZenPower not charging the phone all the way.
after unlocking bootloader and flashing custom rom teameos rom my charger that came with zenfone 2 doesnt work but my trusty old samsung galaxy s3 charger works fine in it not a major loss didnt even use the proper charger much anyways as the cable isnt long enough to reach to my desk or bed and my sammy one is so dont know if its just my phone being weird with it or its the unlocking bootloader custom rom flash thats caused it
