So the other night I let the battery die on my Galaxy Nexus (GSM version). When I went to bed I plugged it in and the battery charging animation came on screen but when I pushed the power button the screen would go black and the phone wouldn't turn on. I let it charge overnight but it did the same thing in the morning.
So I started doing research to figure out if others have had this problem and how to fix it. I came across a couple solutions but none worked for me. That's when I figured out my own solution.
I unplugged the phone and took out the battery. Then, I plugged the phone into a power source. Next I held down the power button and slid in the battery while still holding the power button. A second later, voila! The phone powered on!
I wanted to make this thread in case anyone else had the same problem. Hope this helps at least one other person!
And for what it's worth I'm running CM9.

This is currently an issue with CM9. If you plug your phone in when it is powered off you'll have to remove your battery prior to turning the phone back on.
Your photo stategy worked for me too!
THANKYOU SOOOOO MUCH. <3 I was about to freak cause my phone wouldn't turn on after it died. That's never happened before. I'm so happy this actually worked Holding the power button while putting in the battery, with the phone already plugged in. Thankyou for posting this! You just made my day!

Last night i was using my phone right before going to bed. The battery was at about 18% or so left. I got up to get a glass of water then came back to plug the phone in to the outlet only to notice that the red led was not on. I pressed the power button and nothing would happen. The phone completely shut off without interaction. So I panicked a little and plugged to PC USB cable that was attached to my PC and nothing. wasn't detecting or anything. so I press and held the power button and plugged it in at the same time and it powered on again. Anyone know what could have happen?
Only time i faced this problem was when i tried to drain my battery completely. it wouldn't shut down on its own when it reached 0%, so i turned it off myself.. The next moment is wouldn't boot or charge also. Then i held the power button and it came back to life.. Don't know what the exact cause is though

Yea it kind of turned me off on the phone. But I still love it. anyone else have a similar issue like this? I'm hoping that it is the power management issue that some people are having as there is a quick fix with that. I was avoiding rooting or modding my phone, but I might just have to now.
i'm a noob so i don't know much about most of this, but this really sounds like the way my ipod functions if i let the battery "die." i can't imagine that any manufacturer making a phone with a non-removable battery doesn't have it set up to be rechargeable upon plug in.

Ye, furthermore i've read that this is cause but letting the battery ''die'' indeed, it takes time to charge it back up because when you let it die some kind of undervolting protecting is kicking in i guess and soon after it will start to charge
Okay, so before i went to bed about 8 hours ago, i was playing with Unified Remote and web browsing. I fell asleep and forgot to plug in the charger, but my phone was safely tucked under my pillow. This morning i awoke to check the time, and my phone just wouldn't wake up. Then i noticed it wasn't even on?
So i did the key combo, and nothing happened as i frantically reached for a charger. Just to find the charger did nothing either, along with 5 other's.
Is there anyway to jump start the phone? Or any cause to this? Phone's just don't spontaneously stop working.
Thankyou for any replies or ideas.
Leave it connected to the charger till the red light turns on.
I've had this happen to me twice. Thought id bricked it somehow. Just leave it plugged in as mentioned above. The light should initially flash for a while and eventually stay on solid (red light obviously). I got mine going by holding power and vol down like you would to enter hboot and plugging/unpluging a few times. don't let it drain in future!

Thanks guys, it worked! But i have no idea how it drained? Any idea how this happened?
Flashed Lifeless last night. Everything was working fine, left the phone charging at 10% then today I wake up to a dead phone. Wont charge, wont boot. Only sign of life is holding the power button down for like 20 sec and the battery LED will turn on for like 20 sec but only if its plugged in. What gives? Anyone have any idea what might be going on?
Plug into a 2 amp charger or do a battery pull.

Same thing has happened to me! I have done a battery pull as well with no avail. I am using a 1.2 A charger, the one that came with my phone and still nothing. I can get the red light as well but nothing else. I have pronounced the Phone as DEAD and have already bought a new phone(funds are tight so it was a was crappy situation). If ANYONE has a real working solution to this PLEASE tell us!(I'd greatly appreciate it)

You held the power button for 10 seconds? Try going to recovery or bootloader or download mode

Similar situation
I'm on stock but had the same problem. Phone totally discharged, plugged it into my car charger, phone got hot by camera but did not charge. Got home plugged it into stock charger, same thing. Battery charging on screen, phone hot, then dim light on screen. tried for a day or so, no luck.
Tried holding power button for 20-30 seconds, nothing, Vol up and down + power, nothing. By accident held power and vol up and charging light came on, held it for a minute, and it stayed on, let go, out it went. As a last resort, put two rubber bands around the phone to hold in power and Vol up and bingo! Charging light stayed on! left it overnight and found the phone completely charged in the AM, green light flashing. Been working fine for days, Willnot let it get too low of a charge in the future.
Just a couple days ago, my power button on my galaxy nexus started to act really weird. When i press it, the screen would shut off (as usual) and then a minute later, the screen would turn on again as if someone pressed it.
Later on, the power button started to have problems. The symptoms included not turning the screen off when needed and pressing really hard to shut off the screen.
And then this morning, the screen shut off and I pressed the power button again. Phone didn't turn on at all. So I took out my battery, plugged the phone with the USB cable into a power outlet, put my battery back in and tried turning it on. Instead of turning it on to the usual Google sign, it went to a white centered battery sign showing that it is being charged.
I tried turning on again, by pressing Power + Volume on the phone. No use. Tried again to take out battery, SIM card even, plugged the phone into a computer and plugged the battery back in. No use. I also left it charging and plugged out my cell/battery to let it rest for 4 hours. No use.
I bought this phone a month ago and it worked all fine until this week. Seriously missing this phone. What is wrong with it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Sounds like the power button is broke.

Maybe an app recently installed. It can turn on the screen and turn off when the app want, and can freeze your phone. Check your latest installed applications and then tell us...

I have recently purchased the A50 and love it. However, this morning I woke up late for work as my phone had switched off during its overnight charge. There was no way to turn it back on until at least 10 minutes after taking it off charge and frantically running to work. Once the phone was on, it had 100% battery.
Does anyone have any idea why this happened? Could it be an overheating issue?
This has never happened to any other phone I've owned.
I have been charging with the cable the A50 comes with but with the S7 plug. Could that be the culprit?
If that's the case I will just use the A50 plug itself.
I have looked everywhere for an answer. This only happened today and may never happen again but I would like to know other people's opinions.
Don't know why this happened, bug somewhere, software update, don't know, but do you really need to leave the phone on an overnight charge,
The treakle charge at 100% is known to cause heating issues, and I hear the a50 is not the most durable phone,.
Strange that it would just turn the phone off completely

To be honest, it could have been as simple as electric fluctuation. I have no idea.
I didn't charge last night as I as slightly reluctant to do so.
So far, the phone is working flawlessly and hasn't restarted or shut off on its own. I will eventually charge it once the power drops to almost 0.
Will update so as to let everyone know in case there are similar issues out there.

When it happened to me it was the second time I had charged over night, the first time was fine.
I haven't done it since and so far the phone has been fine.
During Update my phone A50, I just press Power button+Vol down button together. After that my phone was off and can not on till now. I tried to press vol up + power button together but it did not work. Can you please Help.
My Samsung A50 just went off by itself after power went off and has refused to come up. Truth is i have charged it several times using this same power and i can tell power is almost stable except that i am using a different charger head to charge for some time now. Wont sill come up, any help or suggestion?
We have several of these A50's and up to now we had 3 of them with this problem.
At the moment that it refuses to turn back on i noticed that the back of the phone is warm , between the top of the phone and the word SAMSUNG . The rest of the phone is cold.
I left the phone alone for about 4 hours without power cable plugged in , after those 4 hours i plugged it in and after a minute it started charging with a indicator of 0% .
You can also try a forced reboot ( hold volume up and down + power button for 5 sec )
Did anyone manage to solve this issue? My girlfriend's A50 has shut down twice overnight now, and the only way to turn it on is by pressing power and volume down for 10 seconds. She has the May update.
Same issue here, i reset my phone to factory settings then install all of my applications and since do that, the issue doesn't occurs any more till now (1 week)
Same here!
Same situation here!
It turned off during the night 3 times now!!
I was late to work The first time, now I have to activate the alarm on my wife's phone, because I don't trust this one anymore.
To turn it back on, you don't need to wait 4 hours, you just have to press power and volume down.
Samsung has to do something about this!

That doesn't sound like it's actually turning off. More like it gets stuck with screen off and you're making a forced reboot with the button combination.

Yeah that might actually be the case, and it's completely hung since alarms won't go off. Apparently it does not seem like an isolated case so I guess we'll see what the store says.
Same situation at my A50 to. No notifications,no reaction, no alarm, no reacttion after simple power button press, only black display. It get alive only with described buttons combination-power+vol up .
The problem occure only after night charging time, in the morning.
I was advised not to leave on charge overnight. I have just got this phone and was asking live chat about something else and she mentioned new smart phones did not require full overnight charges and unplug as soon as it’s finished charging.. also that fully discharging battery to 0% is not recommended either and should be charged around 20% to increase the life of the battery. I think I will try that advice. Always had Samsung phones and been happy with my S5 for many years..but it’s very outdated and decided on upgrade but can’t justify the price of S10 lol.
