Anywho, the dropdown bar doesn't work anymore. I still her notifications and everything reads fine, I just can't seem to make it drop anymore. Is this software issue or was it the damage from the throw?
Hmmm, have you tried rebooting the phone? Did the phone land on top where the notification bar is usually at?

yeah I rebooted the phone. It was laggy but now it's fine. Everything working great except for the notificaiton bar.
I don't know where it landed, since it was really fast...
Hmmm, that's odd. Are you using the stock evo or is it rooted?
Best bet is to re-flash the phone or factory reset it to see if the notification bar will respond. If the phone is functioning fine, I can't see how the notification bar would be solely affected by the drop.

Look for any real small cracks that could have damage the small wires attached to it, I had that happen to a ipod touch and it would not work along the bottom anymore right at the point that the wires were damaged.
Dang I didn't think about that. The guy says it looks perfectly fine though. Heck I don't know.

Do you have 180° auto rotation? Its an option on cyanogens rom. Enable it and hold the phone upside-down so it rotates and try pulling the bar down that way. Then you know if your screen is damaged or its a software issue. Sounds like some connections are broken but good luck and sorry about your situation.
It sounds like it's getting jammed up by karma. Take her phone and beat it with a rock, then try your notification bar. If that doesn't work, pull the battery and light her laptop on fire.

out of all seriousness, call sprint, tell them you want insurance before you take a road trip or something like that, then a couple days later say you lost it, and you can strip your old evo for parts, sell then on ebay our something...oh not to mention you lose $ 100 in the deductible, but you'll probably make that back with the money that you make on ebay!

I tried the 90 degree rotation and yeah, something is broken, since the notification bar works wonderfully sideways. I am thinking of calling the insurance and telling them it bricked while updating to froyo and see if they buy that. If they do, then I'll brick it trying to update xD
oh and I already got her back. (she has weird mood swings) so after she got angry she got happy and I sexed her up twice....something she regrets but I dont =P

If your phone doesn't show any outward signs of damage, take it to the store and act completely confused. This really sounds like something that could "just happen" with normal use. There is a period where you can get a free replacement for factory defects.
The thing is I bought my phone through a 3rd party supllier. Sprint supplies them and they sell it off. So I don't think that Sprint would replace it...but I'll call nonetheless

This isn't good. I don't know what caused it, but last night i held my phone and got electrocuted. The electricity was like that of strong static when its very dry and cold then you touch something thats mase of metal.
And just now, i left my phone charging. As soon as i grabbed it , i got electrocuted again. Then after holding it for a few seconds, it hit me again. This time it was the strongest because my wife even heard the electricity. The current felt like it came from the left side of the glass of the screen. The strongest i felt i think came from the dock terminal. I tried touching the terminals again but didnt happen anymore.
Im not sure if it because its too cold the room or if its because it was charging. But either way, i dont think a phone should do that.
Anyone else with this kind of situation?

Sorry I had to have a little chuckle when I saw your question title
I would suggest contacting HTC Support and requesting a replacement. If the replacement does the same thing then it could be your environment.
You must change quickly your phone. Maybe is the LiPo Battery.
Hard to believe that phone could generate enough voltage to actually feel it.
Also don't rub it.
I'll try to observe first. I always charge my phone when im in the office but never had this problem. I will try to use a different power outlet here in the room tomorrow and se if it'll happen again.
I won't be able to return the phone yo HTC any sooner because i'll be going to germany this saturday and i need my phone.
It just bugged me. The electricity was tolerable but a phone shouldnt do that.

Not hard to believe at all. Capacitors increase the voltage in the circuit dramatically. They can make 80,000v out of a 9v battery. Think of how a Taser works.
Just return it and either get a replacement or a refund (depends on your reseller/operator/region/country)!

Mhmmm. Taser! @OP if i were you i'd seriously just attach two cables to the side of the screen,two needles at the tip of the cable and install some type of firing mechanism and tase people. Hell, even if they end up taking you to court. They're probably going to say "he tased me with his phone" and the judge, along with everyone else in the court room will stand there just laughing their asses off.

I seem to smell a burning sensation on my HOX specially while charging for the last few days. Phone seems to be okay functionally and i am running on stock - relocked for more than 2 months.
It is very concerning and i don't feel good about this.
Any suggestions/inputs is appreciated.
I can smell it in the top near the power button / back camera area.. don't remember if the bottom was giving the smell. I am not sure if this is happening every time :/ got to be little more careful in my observation.
This might be a weird question but, do you smoke? Or is the phone second hand, possibly from a smoker?

very curious why you had that question and how it relates.
Mine has that, too.
When it gets hot/warm it smells a bit burnt.
But it's running fine for over 6 months now, so I'd say it's no big deal

I was looking in the internet for some info about this "burning smell" from the HTC ONE X and found this post. I'm concerned because it started smelling just an hour ago (i was playing SW Angry Birds) but the phone was not warm at all. I see that pradeepvizz also had the same problem a couple of days ago.. i don't have a good feeling about this actually.. any other who has the same problem?

I had that burning smell a month back. My phone turned of and wouldn't turn back on again had to get a replacement phone from my carrier under warranty.

Someone who "smelt" a burning smell a few months back, had his HOX blow up in his bag, do not let this happen to you as it might not be in your bag, it may be in your hand!
Seriously, check for any raising on the back of the phone where the battery is, if its raised at all your battery may be combusting itself, be safe not sorry !

I get it alot when playing eternal warriors 2, like alot!
My HOX has never shut down on me though so I'm just guessing it's the GPU running really hot, I'll install some temp readers and monitor it.
Infact, lets all do that and compare.

there are different battery apps/widgets/tools in the market with an included temperature measurement.
you should install anyone and check your batteries temperature while charging.
it shouldn't have more than 40-42°C
by the way: are u using the original HTC charger ? (you should!).

You realize 104 F is not hot... at all.....
1) Laptops and have had electronic components built to withstand up to 100 CELSIUS for years. I'm sure your phone can handle 40.
2) If you can't talk on the phone because a little warmth is too much for your sensitive skin move the **** to Alaska because 104 is not hot by any stretch of the imagination.
3) My phone has no lag.... at all, so I don't know what you're speaking of. I can play NFS:MW for an hour, switch to Eufloria HD for another, then hit up GTA:VC for an hour with absolutely no problems. I can also scroll through the drawer faster than my S3 could respond, so it is much more responsive. Maybe you got a defective unit or you messed it up somewhere rooting or flashing roms or poking around where you shouldn't have... I mean based just by your grammar you're not that smart of a person, so I'd say user error is MUCH more likely.
4) If by the blur you mean the purple when you're in the settings, well yes. You've got me there. That is a minor bug that needs to be addressed, and will. The phone has been out for like 11 days bro, give them a ****ing minute.
5) No, sir, your Note 2 is not faster. Yes, it has a larger screen and slightly better battery life, but faster? No. Run a CPU and GPU benchmark and try to tell me its faster.
Give them some time to work out the kinks in the programming. This is how electronics work, nothing is ever going to be perfect when its being produced by the millions on a short time frame with 6 different versions for different countries with different hardware and 10000 different carriers trying to poke around and make their own adjustments to the software.
TL;DR: Stop crying, you're embarrassing yourself.

I hate when people say use benchmark look which is faster... man everyday use is what matter, when I'm playing games and my note 2 runs them smooth and my S4 runs them choppy there is an issue I'm sorry there just is. Now for 104 degrees being not too hot, wow really its beyond hot for a phone to hit, don't give me the whole laptop crap this is a phone that people use to make phone calls and the screen and the back just feels way way too hot. No, 104F is not too hot for a phone to hit while charging and being used. You have heat from the battery while charging and heat from the processor while using, add any case you might have put on there trapping the heat and it is still well withing acceptable parameters. In Florida ambient temperature reaches that through most of the summer.

104° F is actually cool for a phone th that's charging and in a call. If the device is lagging out on you just return it if a reset doesn't fix the issue.

I actually had this same issue on a white 16gb s4. Phone was powered off while charging over night. Upon powering it on the internal thermometer also read 104F. I suspect it was much hotter, given I have hot spots on my laptop case that reach that temp as verified by a thermal camera. This felt much hotter, though I didn't have the tools on hand to verify.

I've heard a few people complain about their devices getting too hot, but most of them have had the white version. Is that what you guys have had? I have the black one and haven't experienced this issue at all. It does get a little warm when charging, but other than that, no issues here

Well I'm in Florida so whenever I'm inside it's like a warming pad against the AC. When I'm outside I don't care because it's not getting any hotter than the air already is. Sound logic.
You do realize I was being sarcastic right? Regardless, that's neither here nor there. You can't make a thread and be like "Damn samsung my phone hits 104 F when I'm charging and talking on the phone!!!!111oneone"
That's not hot. Especially for a phone that's charging while doing anything, or using mobile data in any way, or playing games. When it hit's 60-70 celsius start complaining about overheating problems/return it. When your phone hits 100 degrees Celsius start worrying about the internals frying. Anything less than that stop complaining. It's a ****ing quad core computer that fits in your hand and is slimmer than a BIC lighter. Of course it's going to get warm. If you didn't realize that when you bought it you shouldn't be paying 650 bucks for anything because you're too stupid to have 650 bucks to spend.
For the last time, that's not hot at all. This thread is pointless. I'm done with it.

This is my first time posting so cut me some slack! Also not sure if this is the best place to post this.
Last night at about 3:15am EST (about 1 hour after i plugged it in and went to sleep) I was awoken by a loud noise and a weird squeaking sound. (I charge my phone while I'm sleeping on my bed right next to me)
So, I woke up, and saw a ton of smoke coming out of my phone -- it also smelled REALLY bad. Half asleep, I jumped out of bed and turned the light on, only to see that my phone was just beginning to go on fire. I dumped a glass of water I had in the room on it to stop it from burning...then woke up my brother to come help. The smoke smelled so bad and wafted through the entire second floor of my house. I had a foam mattress pillow top that had a hole burned through it too--which we later threw out because it was still burning throughout. Also, some of the plastic on my phone was melting and kind of shooting out of it, and some landed on my pinky finger and burned some skin off (very small burn though).
Does anyone have any suggestions what I should do? Call Verizon? Samsung? Have a lawyer call them? I'd also like to get some type of replacement phone in the meantime...

ALSO: To answer many questions: EVERYTHING was stock/Samsung that I had received when I purchased my phone. Stock battery, charger, etc. Additionally, my phone was NOT rooted.
Edit 2: Thanks so much for all of your comments and insight. The real big question here is -- Do you think I have an actual legal case? As in, a product liability case. Or, do you think I'm better off taking what the PR team will give me? (Perhaps, a new phone, new mattress, etc)? I did not suffer any TRULY substantial damages to myself or personal property. I am really tossed up on this...Any advice would be appreciated.

If there's even a case. Sounds like he just wants to be reimbursed for the phone and damage done to his bed. It also sounds like he doesn't even care about the burn to his finger.
If he does file a lawsuit, I sure hope his phone was stock (I have no idea how they would check now) and that he was using the stock battery. I'm sure samsung is going to bring up the wall charger and micro usb cable as well.

Im sorry, but in my opinion, things like this shouldnt always warrant a lawsuit. Does anybody really think that Samsung is guilty of wrongdoing here? Yeah it sucks and is scary that it happened, but just file an insurance claim to replace the bed and phone and move on with life.
How many GS3s have been sold now, plus all the extra batteries and only one has done this? Pretty good if you ask me.
Sounds like it was probably just a faulty battery or something like that.
Anyway, like I said its just my opinion and thought id share it.

I couldn't even tell that was still the battery since it had warped and expanded so much due to the explosion....now I'm not going to charge my S3 right next to my head when I sleep.
Reimbursement I vote in the least, I mean what's a "600$" phone gonna be for them lol, I assume it was a faulty battery I've read that before about it melting a case

This actually happened to me also so I know what he is going through. I set my phone down to charge. I woke up about an hour later to a plastic burning smell. I grabbed my phone and it was literally melting. Not on fire, just extremely hot and I ended up burning my fingers. I immediately pulled the battery out. Let it cool off (the smell didn't go away) and then it powered back on and has been charging normally ever since. It's kinda scary to think what would happen if I didn't wake up and notice my phone almost blowing up.

This actually happened to me also so I know what he is going through. I set my phone down to charge. I woke up about an hour later to a plastic burning smell. I grabbed my phone and it was literally melting. Not on fire, just extremely hot and I ended up burning my fingers. I immediately pulled the battery out. Let it cool off (the smell didn't go away) and then it powered back on and has been charging normally ever since. It's kinda scary to think what would happen if I didn't wake up and notice my phone almost blowing up.

What firmware and ROM are you running?
I don't think he has an S3. All of his other posts are for the Note2.

It was stock everything, not even rooted.

Wasn't aware they got the 4.1.2 update. That's a bmer though on all accounts. I live in Phoenix AZ and we see nothing but triple digits from may til august and I've never felt burnt by my phone, I'm lucky to have resistant skin I guess.

Oh yes they got it months ago. But this happened while charging, in the air conditioning. So there was no reason for it to be that hot. When I turned it on there was no program in the battery list which was eating up the battery so it is very strange.
