...threw my EVO against the floor, the EVO survived it like a champ. Won't go into details why, but we were both at fault...still my EVO =(
Anywho, the dropdown bar doesn't work anymore. I still her notifications and everything reads fine, I just can't seem to make it drop anymore. Is this software issue or was it the damage from the throw?
Hmmm, have you tried rebooting the phone? Did the phone land on top where the notification bar is usually at?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
yeah I rebooted the phone. It was laggy but now it's fine. Everything working great except for the notificaiton bar.
I don't know where it landed, since it was really fast...
Hmmm, that's odd. Are you using the stock evo or is it rooted?
Best bet is to re-flash the phone or factory reset it to see if the notification bar will respond. If the phone is functioning fine, I can't see how the notification bar would be solely affected by the drop.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Look for any real small cracks that could have damage the small wires attached to it, I had that happen to a ipod touch and it would not work along the bottom anymore right at the point that the wires were damaged.
Dang I didn't think about that. The guy says it looks perfectly fine though. Heck I don't know.

maybe if you shake it hard enough, the notification bar will get loose. Maybe its stuck to something from the fall...........................................................................................

Do you have 180° auto rotation? Its an option on cyanogens rom. Enable it and hold the phone upside-down so it rotates and try pulling the bar down that way. Then you know if your screen is damaged or its a software issue. Sounds like some connections are broken but good luck and sorry about your situation.
It sounds like it's getting jammed up by karma. Take her phone and beat it with a rock, then try your notification bar. If that doesn't work, pull the battery and light her laptop on fire.

out of all seriousness, call sprint, tell them you want insurance before you take a road trip or something like that, then a couple days later say you lost it, and you can strip your old evo for parts, sell then on ebay our something...oh not to mention you lose $ 100 in the deductible, but you'll probably make that back with the money that you make on ebay!
And **** with your ex's pc, give it a virus or something, text (and prank call without *67) people from her phone, even go as far as ****ing with her alarm clock, idk man but get back at her somehow for making you go through all this ****
I just woke up. I had finals yesterday so i was beat xD well
I tried the 90 degree rotation and yeah, something is broken, since the notification bar works wonderfully sideways. I am thinking of calling the insurance and telling them it bricked while updating to froyo and see if they buy that. If they do, then I'll brick it trying to update xD
oh and I already got her back. (she has weird mood swings) so after she got angry she got happy and I sexed her up twice....something she regrets but I dont =P
also thinking of doing something to her precious car but unsure yet...
Thanks everyone for the replies xD Totally made my morning =D
If your phone doesn't show any outward signs of damage, take it to the store and act completely confused. This really sounds like something that could "just happen" with normal use. There is a period where you can get a free replacement for factory defects.
The thing is I bought my phone through a 3rd party supllier. Sprint supplies them and they sell it off. So I don't think that Sprint would replace it...but I'll call nonetheless

Yeah, after I've taken such great care of my Incredible, I made a big mistake today. I was looking through a closet for a box of trashbags, and had the flashlight app on. I found the bags, and thought I had turned the flashlight off, but in fact I had not. I slipped the phone into my pocket.
Well, 5min later I feel a burning in my pants, sure enough the back plate and LEDs had melted under the high heat and fused together. The leds are melted down around the backplate, which has warped around the holes. It's only noticeable if you look kinda close. But, I can't get the plate off. I freaked out.
So, I know a few options, I can pay the $100 deductible and get a replacement phone from my insurance. I want to know, will it be the same hardware? (AMOLED)
I also can attempt to cut the phone apart with a small knife, as it has only fused around the leds. I can live with melted leds (they still work).
My only other question is: what is the possibility of smooth-talking the verizon store rep into replacing the phone under my 1 year warranty? I can nandroid, then get it back to stock before I take it in.
Thanks guys, I put so much time and money into this phone, god I hate when things like this happen.
i would call verizon and tell them there is a problem with the leds and there not working correctly that you cant get the cover off.
Sounds Like A Warranty Replacement To Me.
That's hilarious and sad at the same time. I would call up verizon and have a what if hypothetical conversion about this. Most likely if you get a new Dinc it won't be amoled.

Unfortunately not, I was using Torch from Cyanogenmod. However, I'm sure I could get the same results if I left the HTC app on long enough, as Torch wasn't even on full brightness. It's really weird.
So the general consensus is to call verizon? Not go to a store?

I think going to a store might be best. Do a nandroid, and restore to stock. Make sure you s-on, and pull your SD card out for good measure xD Then show it to a representative and tell them you were using the flashlight app and you put it in your pocket blah blah.
There is this thing called the manufacturer's warranty that covers your phone for 1 year from hardware defects. And that is certainly a hardware defect. The dude will fill do everything for you, and a new one will be sent to you. Don't worry, if you have AMOLED now, you should get a Certified Like-New AMOLED. (Some Verizon internal memo was leaked a few months ago confirming this, and I can personally confirm)

I wouldn't go so far as to call it a hardware defect, as this was not normal wear and tear. LEDs typically do a very good job of heat dissipation, but putting an illuminated one in your pocket is going to allow for an unnatural buildup of heat. Rather than a defect, it's simple physics.
For the OP- definitely restore to stock and take it in for a warranty exchange. However, you may want to leave out the part about having the LEDs on while in your pocket.
Turn flashlight back on for few minutes so that it it melts again and pull the phone apart.

Hahaha I'm no woman. I guess you could call me reckless/uninformed. I haven't seen much hard information that suggests radiation is high enough to cause problems.
And thanks for the responses. This weekend I'll go back to stock, and bring it in to the verizon store in my area. Just double checking, I'm going to tell them that I was using the htc flashlight app, but should I tell them that I had it on for a long time, short time, medium amount of time? I'll know to say that I felt the phone starting to get hot, and then turned it over and saw the melted plastic.
I do that all the time whilst drinking out of a plastic bottle that I left in my car during 100 degree temps.

the SAME thing happened to me on my inc! only i caught it before it actually fused my backplate to the phone! my backplate still got melted though, and the chasis around the LED's. I was also using the torch on CM 6.1, it truned on in my pocket since I had the torch app in quick launch/widget area of the notification bar. I also had the torch set to "High/Death Ray" so im sure that didnt help either!

Yeah pretty much that's my question. I'm rooted 2.2 froyo.
I want to disable it for security reasons
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
.......why would you want to? you wouldn't be able to wake the screen when it turns off.
you can set a pattern or pin so like, if you are in college class you get up, people can't get into the phone unless they know the pin.
settings > security > setup screen lock > pin
or you can just buy a belt pocket at wally world for like 12 bucks
Yeah, gonna have to go with the above poster. That would make it pretty much impossible to turn on the screen to then unlock it.
I mean like to disable the option of turning off the phone when the screen is locked. And I'm saying day the phone is stolen even though I have cerberus installed if the thieves turns off the phone I can't track it.

This sounds a little insane. There's almost no point, much less a way. So you have it stuck on. Now what? The battery is gonna be dead in a day.... Which would have the side effect of turning it off. If you're running GPS on it constantly, its gonna be dead in far less than a day. Maybe I'm not understanding this.
What if you get what you want.. and find a solution about your issue!!! Your next question would be how to seal the phone so the thief can't take the battery out.. I personally would recommend what Kiboe mention...

In that case I'd recommend "Where's my Droid". You send a text to your phone, it wakes it up and gets a GPS fix, then texts that to you. Unless the app is removed, there is no way to stop it from doing it's job. It works even when the screen is off.
So, my phone just rebooted out of the blue and the power button no longer works. sometimes it will get the power menu to come up, and then the phone will reboot if it is pressed again. I don't think Sprint would even fix this as I bought it from another Sprint customer

the battery moisture indicator is pink. i just cracked open the phone and I only see one indicator towards the bottom of the phone near the USB port, which is a fresh dry white. Don't think any moisture could have reached inside for whatever reason (not that it was wet recently...)
are there any others?
is there any way to power up the phone without the battery and test?

This has been happening to me as well. It usually happens after chrome freezes on me tho. It did it for the first time not on a chrome page today. Btw, how literally do "toast" and "fried" apply here? Does this look like a temperature-related problem—somehow it got too hot and essence de mobo started leaking all over (leaving that visible gunk)? Or is it something else entirely? Assuming there's enough information in that image.
I don't know how it happened. The phone has symptoms that led me to the following thread about issues with the power button: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1783404 (repeated vibration like at the beginning of the boot cycle, plus the camera flash going off)
When I dropped it off to have the power button replaced . . . well, before they opened it up, they said they thought it was a software corruption issue to be solved by re-flashing the ROM, and that the phone had probably gotten wet. (It's never been immersed, although maybe it doesn't take much ambient moisture for a phone to count as having gotten wet.) Then they called me later and said: whoa, the motherboard, we can't fix it. So I got it back, opened it up myself, and posted this image in the hopes of learning something, because I'm still not sure what to think. Following some of the power-button-related advice from the other thread does seem to help (e.g., the boot cycle proceeds much farther immediately after I tap the phone against a semi-hard surface in a way that would loosen up the power button), and I feel like that shouldn't be the case if the motherboard were such a piece of toast.

that is a gunk? I think I can speak for everone and say, we think it looks like burned, fried, melted electronics. The real test is the sniff check, if you know what it smells like.
Try scraping it with a sharp edge. If its fried, it will crumble. If gunk, it should stick to the edge.

This is my first time posting so cut me some slack! Also not sure if this is the best place to post this.
Last night at about 3:15am EST (about 1 hour after i plugged it in and went to sleep) I was awoken by a loud noise and a weird squeaking sound. (I charge my phone while I'm sleeping on my bed right next to me)
So, I woke up, and saw a ton of smoke coming out of my phone -- it also smelled REALLY bad. Half asleep, I jumped out of bed and turned the light on, only to see that my phone was just beginning to go on fire. I dumped a glass of water I had in the room on it to stop it from burning...then woke up my brother to come help. The smoke smelled so bad and wafted through the entire second floor of my house. I had a foam mattress pillow top that had a hole burned through it too--which we later threw out because it was still burning throughout. Also, some of the plastic on my phone was melting and kind of shooting out of it, and some landed on my pinky finger and burned some skin off (very small burn though).
Does anyone have any suggestions what I should do? Call Verizon? Samsung? Have a lawyer call them? I'd also like to get some type of replacement phone in the meantime...
Here are the pictures
EDIT: People keep requesting pictures of the battery. Here they are
ALSO: To answer many questions: EVERYTHING was stock/Samsung that I had received when I purchased my phone. Stock battery, charger, etc. Additionally, my phone was NOT rooted.
Edit 2: Thanks so much for all of your comments and insight. The real big question here is -- Do you think I have an actual legal case? As in, a product liability case. Or, do you think I'm better off taking what the PR team will give me? (Perhaps, a new phone, new mattress, etc)? I did not suffer any TRULY substantial damages to myself or personal property. I am really tossed up on this...Any advice would be appreciated.

If there's even a case. Sounds like he just wants to be reimbursed for the phone and damage done to his bed. It also sounds like he doesn't even care about the burn to his finger.
If he does file a lawsuit, I sure hope his phone was stock (I have no idea how they would check now) and that he was using the stock battery. I'm sure samsung is going to bring up the wall charger and micro usb cable as well.

Im sorry, but in my opinion, things like this shouldnt always warrant a lawsuit. Does anybody really think that Samsung is guilty of wrongdoing here? Yeah it sucks and is scary that it happened, but just file an insurance claim to replace the bed and phone and move on with life.
How many GS3s have been sold now, plus all the extra batteries and only one has done this? Pretty good if you ask me.
Sounds like it was probably just a faulty battery or something like that.
Anyway, like I said its just my opinion and thought id share it.

Seems like in both cases of exploding iPod Touches, a lawsuit against Apple followed:

This actually happened to me also so I know what he is going through. I set my phone down to charge. I woke up about an hour later to a plastic burning smell. I grabbed my phone and it was literally melting. Not on fire, just extremely hot and I ended up burning my fingers. I immediately pulled the battery out. Let it cool off (the smell didn't go away) and then it powered back on and has been charging normally ever since. It's kinda scary to think what would happen if I didn't wake up and notice my phone almost blowing up.
