My Friend has Bootlooped his One X - HTC One X

Hi. I asked my friend that is new to android:
to root his android phone n flash his phone so he can become somewhat of a modder:
however he has just told me that he has got into a bootloop after flashing the cyan theme on a stock HTC ONE X bootloader unlocked.(international)
He had not made a backup & wants the least complicated method
Do you have a simple solution so he can boot his phone into his phone?
Edit: I have looked on google but cannot find the right solution for his situation.

Hold the power button down til it turns black and the lights blink then hold volume down to boot into bootloader.
Then select recovery and reflash his Rom. Or push the stock files that got edited using adb.

If recovery doesn't boot tell him to go into bootloader -> fastboot and then use 'fastboot erase cache'.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium

Yes he can get into recovery, i kinda feel responsible cause i told him to flash something.
Anyways I've searched on google n i can't find any clear instructions on erasing fasboot cache

Why did you tell him to flash something he knew nothing about? Surely you advised him to read up on everything first, download the right RUU as backup, etc?

Just grab a Rom and flash it in recovery that will fix it. Don't make it complicated. No need for anything else he only changed a few files like systemui and framework.res, once they get replaced again with the new Rom it will boot as normal.

Restore G2 via Recovery Files??

hey guys, sorry if this has already been answered. are there any recovery files for the G2 so i can flash it to stock out of the box? my friend gave me her phone cuz her ex put all kinds of spyware and i wanted to do a clean install of the OS. im used to moto phones so there are usually .sbf/.fxz files to do this with. idk if these kind of files exist for this phone. any info would help. thanks in advance

Flashing a recovery won't do what you're wanting; recovery is used to do what you want.

Sorry if I didn't word myself correctly. When I say flash a recovery file I mean an sbf/fxz type of file. Like moto phones have sbf/fxz files if you brick your phone. That's what I'm looking for. Id like to flash the OS so its a clean phone. However if stock recovery will do this then I'll take your word for it.

No need to reflash the OS, just boot into recovery, wipe everything and reset to factory (or however its worded) and it'll be like turning it on for the first time.
Anything that was installed via the Market will get reinstalled once she associates her phone with her account but I'm assuming any spyware he installed wasn't via the Market

how can i restore his phone to stock -- repair it :S

Follow solution 2. You need to relock the boot loader, download the correct ruu for the carrier of the phone, and then run the ruu.
Then, all back to stock. I imagine you are boot looping because when running stock, the update was taken that updates your radio (if you are CDMA) to something past the 521_2 radio.
Follow the directions to a t and good luck.

[RECOVERY] ClockWorkMod Testing

This wont permanently break your device or any bad stuff. The worst that is going to happen is possibly lose your personal data.
THIS IS A WIP IT MIGHT NOT WORK. If you flash this and it boots to recovery, you should be warned to not use any of the functions right now. You might lose personal data from /data or /sdcard. Its important you pull recovery log
Instructions:
Download cwmrecovery.img from here
Put phone in fastboot mode
Open command prompt and type "fastboot flash recovery cwmrecovery.img"
Reboot to recovery
If it boots to recovery type "adb pull /tmp/recovery.log"
If it says device not found let me know and exit recovery without doing any of the functions
I'll try this when i get home in a little bit. If something goes adrift though, will i lose the data from my sd card? or phone storage? or both? im just wondering, either one i can back all my info up to my comp, though most of its saved to my gmail.
EDIT: tried it a second time, and it does not boot into recovery. i think i forgot to try and boot it to recovery the first time i tried it.
Same results, can't boot into recovery also

Doesnt look like jmz has updated this since before the working root method. Best to wait on this until it's updated i think. There is a stock recovery.img here in case you want to return to working recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2122940
Just extract the recovery.img from the zip and flash it. If that's not the right file let me know and I'll put the file up here, just don't have time right now.
Anyone find anything with this ?

Any problem with root and using custom roms

Hi all
I am new to root and roms related part
So i want to know it from all of u ( u all experts) that is there any kind of problem (either related to brick or bad perfomance or damage or degradation to the internal ic) with rooting or using custom roms...???
If there any , plz point it out and help me
And is it possible to come back to my orignal stock with all the things as it is as it was before the root?
Thnx in advance , plz help
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Yes you cam go back to stock, and no i have never experienced bad things with rooting and running customs roms. But you have to read the tutorials first to learn about what you need to know and need to do ! Don't go messing about with little to no knowledge !
Read up on fastboot and the commands how to flash recoverys and boot.img files.
These are the steps to follow
Unlock the bootloader at htcdev site
Flash a custom recovery
Make a NANDROID BACKUP of the stock rom
Flash the boot.img from the new rom
Perform a FULL wipe in the recovery
Install the new rom
And safe the stock rom nandroid backup somewhere safe (pc, cloud storage)
Thnx man...!!!
U helped me a lot with rooting , thnx again
One of my frnd said that he had solved a prob of bricked samsung phone with some kind of tiny device...dont know what...bt he was saying that he had done it
Is this possible for htc one x?
And finally one formal question..
Is there any prob if i get stuck and ask u for help?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
No its no problem ! And bricking the hox is almost impossible because we have S-ON devices .... Just check that the battery is full before you start
What is the meaning of S-ON device
I frequently came to know that u guys use S-ON & S-OFF device...what does that mean??
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
S-off is a security parameter, if you have s-off you do not need to flash stuff with fastboot commands. Then you would be able to flash a complete rom including the kernel from the recovery. So no need for a pc !
But s-on is not so bad everyone thinks it is, because now bricking the phone is pretty much impossible
Wooooo...!!!
That means if i dont know exectly how to root ur htc one x then also there is no chance to brick ur device...am i right?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Note that there is always a chance of getting it bricked ! But the chances are minimal to 0 if you follow the right path
Awsome bro...
Can u suggest the right way which u thinks the best for rooting and installing new rom and meanwhile keeping backup of stock rom for further use if needed to switch back to orignal one...??
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Well the main steps are in my first post of this thread ...
You need to learn about fastboot and the needed commands, here is more info
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605720
And if you want to usr a all in one tool you can use this. But please read all info carefully and make sure you got it all prepared before you start. And charge the batt to full power to avoid issues.

Want to install ARHD ROM
Hello Mr. Hofs, I am new in XDA site also dont know anything about the installation process. i searched a lot but too much confused. i just want to install a Jelly Bean ARHD custom rom for my HOX. now i am using ICS 4.0.3 and Sense 4.0. still didnt get any update. my bootloader also unlocked. i purchased it second hand so its may be used custom rom. i dont know which custom rom used on my HOX. my HOX CID number is VODAP001. please suggest me how to install ARHD 18.1 version custom rom. please give me full solution of this in easy way. thanks.
Boot the phone and check under settings menu if it says something about the custom rom.
But you need to install HTC drivers and you need the fastboot files. You have to open a command prompt inside the folder on the pc and type there 1 command, and the phone has to be in the bootloader menu. You should see in the bootloader in red text "fastboot usb"
Fastboot getvar version-main
A number should come out and we need that

I may have just flashed my boot with recovery, now what?

So I accidently mis-read a post a fellow XDA member posted and flashed my boot with the recovery.img before I was able to make a backup of my boot.img. So what can I do now? Phone hangs at HTC intor logo, however I can still flash and enter BOOTLOADER.
Would appreciate the help chaps...
Fastboot getvar version-main
Go to fastboot and type that, post outcome. From there on we can find the right RUU for you. Once you have the right ruu you relock the bootloader with
Fastboot oem lock
Then you plug in your device and run the RUU as administrator. First get the version main and don't do anything you can't undo! With an ruu u can get full stock back
If you want to run a custom rom anyway you might as well download one and flash it away and flash the boot that comes with it. I understand if you want to revert back to stock first though, your call

Ok, downloaded the Viper ROM. Placed the .zip on the storage device in a folder named ROM. Extracted boot.img to Android folder, rebooted into Fastboot and flashed the boot.img. Now have cleared all caches and have initiated Viper install, however it's been at 0.00% for 15 minutes and my battery is draining fast! help help, don't want it to switch off while installing.
Also, I wiped the sd card in the Philz recovery - was this a bad idea?
Did you do a full wipe in the aroma installer? If it stays stuck wipe again and install zip from sd card again (viper zip)

Turn off, plugin make sure the zip is still on your phone if not copy again. Unplug phone before flashing and flash zip from sd card again. Just copy the Rom in the internal storage not in a folder, this could cause problems
Don't worry about battery life it usually charges in recovery and if not there are plenty scripts out there to charge it anyway. The thing to do in these kind of situations is stay calm tomorrow I have time to find the right ruu for you if you still want to return back to stock.

You did install all the drivers? So you lost the zip on the storage well that's no biggie, sometimes all I had to do was close htc sync and plug it in again to connect. Try accessing storage when the phone is fully turned on. Do you have usb debugging on?

Hate to say it, but I just repeatedly troll spammed the mount/unmount option in recovery while plugging and unplugging the USB cable - Seems to have done the trick. Copying fresh Viper .zip over. Fresh flash of recovery and fresh flash of Viper boot.img.
Upwards and onwards...
Fingers crossed, lol
There's an option in recovery to wipe everything in preparation for new ROM installation, should I do that?
P.s. thankyou for helping me me on this appreciate it.
Yes do the wipe to be sure and also the wipe in the installer that's what I did. Haha that's okay, this bed I sleep on on my holiday is crap so I guess you're lucky . Tomorrow I can help you find the right ruu file for if you ever need to return it (warranty) no need flashing the recovery again btw, just zip and boot
You're more than welcome I needed help in the beginning as well, even soft bricked my phone before haha I think we've all been there
Also; don't get discouraged by all the features the viper Rom has, you'll find your way around them sooner or later.

Wanna know the best bit, my one x is second hand so no warranty to return on!! Hardcore, yippee-kai-yayyy! lol
That's great, tinker around with it all you want! It is really fun flashing different roms. Viper Rom even has OTA, over the air updates. You'd have to read the thread for that though. Once you get viper to work.. make a backup!! Also copy that backup folder to your dekstop so you don't lose it and cause you need the boot.img if you ever want to restore

You are getting there my friend! Read their thread carefully though. When flashing OTA's you need to delete them out of your download folder cause else your recovery might go crazy.those kind of things are good to know!!
