root MIUI 2.6.15 ? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

can anyone tell me how to root MIUI 2.6.15 ?

You should post this in miui thread ... that way you get the help you need for that rom

Wrong section dude. That's why there is a 'Q&A' section for the phone. To post there, there is NO other questions in this thread. Just ROMs and some occasional 'how-to's.... so please read prior to posting.
No harm done though, so PM a mod and ask them to delete this or move it.

Not to mention, you don't root a ROM, you root the phone so you can flash the ROM

I believe it's a minor glitch in the tapatalk XDA app or the actual XDA app from the Play store.

Yeah on xda, tapatalk you can post without needing to have posted something before.

OTA vs. flashing updates

Is there any reason to flash an update through a .zip instead of updating OTA?

As with most things Android, I think it is just personal preference (and time). I know the scripts are becoming more advanced but I like flashing zip files...it sort of brings back the excitement of the first few flashes and satisfies that craving to flash something new lol
Manually flashing has less room for error as you perform all the wipes manually. Scripts aren't perfect, but I guess I haven't had any issues with it thus far.

[Q] FreeGS3 - System Update

I have the following rom:
Team Sonic-FreeGS3 JB v3.0.0
Located Here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1748818&highlight=freegs3
I have the following custom recovery loaded:
TWRP
The rom started to prompt me today to apply a system update. Is this safe to do since I have a custom recovery? I don't care/want the update to work, obviously, I just want it to quit annoying me
Thank you in advance for your time!

Let it install and fail. Reboot and no more notification

The notification will come back. Naddict has a zip that changes your buikd prop so you won't have the notification anymore.

Sweet! I think I am good to go. I followed the steps and when I booted the phone backup I still had the System Update. I click Install Now on the system update. It thought for a second and then came back and said your phone is up to date. I reboot the phone and now I no longer have the update request.
Thank you again Daniel!
Why is it every time there is an OTA suddenly there are 50 threads and another 100 posts on "what do I do?"
Rule 1 says please search before posting. Using google and adding xda into the search parameters will usually get you at least 1 of the way too many threads and posts on this.
Thanks

Also, when you create a thread (on the PC, that is), XDA automatically does the search for you and gives you suggestions of similar threads to read before posting. I've found a lot of my answers just by trying to create a post and finding the exact thing I was looking for.

In response to the 2 above comments...
Initially I started with the ROM Development Page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1748818&highlight=freegs3
I used the "search this thread" to try and find what I was looking for. Towards the end, other people had the same issue and some recommended to just find another rom.
When I couldn't find anything useful on the developer thread I started just to search the development and Q&A sections. I was having a hard time locating anything because I wasn't sure if the suggestions I found would fix all/most roms or were they specific to just a particular rom. Again back to square 1.
I then decided that I would post a question on the developer thread for my rom. I figured this would be the best place since others were probably having the same issue. When I tried to do that, I very quickly realized that I haven't posted enough thread topics to post something in the development section. I decided my next best best would be to post something in the Q&A section. I was hoping the answer would help me and others that are having the same issue.
So just to recap......No......I didn't just come straight to the Q&A section and post a question without looking. Quit assuming the worst in people.

Pink/Magenta Download Mode

Because normally this is due to a custom ROM or flashing a kernel not a fluke that happens to everybody and IMPO dev people got more experience and might have more ideas of what might be the solution.
Man this ROM bricked my phone.. Guess I need to go to the question part of XDA and find out my answeres that I have.... " see what I did there "

They should be. I personally have used the no trip counter method a while back and it works like charm. I would be surprised if it wasn't up to date. The devs are pretty good about it and would also put if the thread is no maintained anymore.

Nice. I used it once before but then auto rotate quit working except in the camera app and wasn't sure if it was a result of that or something else. Ive got a replacement now and miss the root features (TiBu, Greenify, etc). I can always hit em up again if it happens again I guess.
