Hi. try flashing back the stock rom. If still same prob, then and take it back frm where you bought it. They should fix under waranty, or exch it. it may be faulty
btw did the issue started happening after u flashed a custom rom?
I had the same problem...
...searched all over trying to find a solution relating to Desire HD but eventually found my answer in a thread relating to an older HTC phone.
I doubt I'd find it again so I can't give the credit where it's deserved but the poster suggested a couple of possible causes and solutions as I recall;
1. The speaker in the earpiece naturally contains a magnet and could over time pick up bits of metal fragments (swarf) from dust, in your pocket, off tables, etc. He suggested using a stronger magnet to stroke it off perhaps, or even easier (and perhaps safer for other components) just blow!
2. The speaker will have a thin plastic diaphragm that resonates to form the sound. If this becomes malformed somehow it will produce crackling/tinny noise and poor volume. The solution here is to close your mouth over the earpiece and either blow or suck If one doesn't work then try the other and test again.
Sounds comical I know(!), but it worked for me. I can't remember if it was blowing or sucking in my case but I was very glad I had avoided having to go through customer services and being without my phone. Instant fix and it's been fine since.
Like I said, this isn't Desire HD specific advice - it could happen to any cellphone really. I hope you have the same joy as I did ;-)
Funny but it works!
I was just going to unroot and return my Desire Z Vision to stock, and try to get it fixed under warranty. What a hassle!
I'm not sure whether the blowing or the sucking was it, but it fixed the terrible sound distortion coming from the phone earpiece speaker at higher than minimum in-call volumes.
Thanks so much! I love the XDA community!

To me I have tried blow trick but it messed up the ear piece more. But there is no way you going to loose the sound unless you drop the phone , try the magnet trick or using a vacuum cleaner ( I was once thinking of doing that ) try to re flash your DHD may be it will help and try to go with stock Rom first with mod kernel .

Hi, I am on a t-mobile branded stock DHD which has never been rooted and the in call volume is amazingly low, I can barely hear people when I'm outside and most of the time I have to put it on speaker, I never had this problem with my n95 or bb 9780, can anyone help or offer any suggestions, is there a chance my handset could be faulty. Also does call quality improve in gingerbread as I am still awaiting that update.

What I can tell you my friend is that when I first got the phone for a while (about 2 months) the in-call volume and quality was very decent. I did not have a single problem. That is until the sound distortion started....

HTC Desire HD weird sound from earpiece
Hey guys
I am experiencing something really weird. On my desire HD, when I start a call (make/receive) the sound is at max and is fine, after sometime the calls sound is all distorted as if the speaker is burst, once I lower the sound its fine i.e. <50%. If i keep my phone upside down for some time, the sound gets normal on the earpiece but again after sometime it gets distorted again.
What is going on? My speaker (earpiece) sounds okay for a few mins and then gets distorted, and after sometime it gets back to normal and then again distorted.. help me out guys i cant figure out and cant fix it.
I have tried:
1) Magnet in front of earpiece to pull out fragments of small metals on the speaker
2) Left the phone in an air tight jar with a dessicant on the earpiece
What next?

Maybe yes, but its like alright for a few mins, e.g. in a 10 min call, 6 min its fine, then its like something is gradually appearing on the speaker to make it sound bad, slowly and gradually the sound gets from OK to bad as if something is vibrating with the speaker.
What I dont understand is that how does it get okay after a few mins rest?
I live in Pakistan, no Official HTC Support here, everything is either smuggled or people order from abroad... If it fails its a pretty tough situation for me !
Last resort is to blow in the earpiece or to use the professional air spray blower, but none of these trials is curable, this info is from HTC support website, mine requires repair, or I can use it for gaming and chatting, in that way an itoutch is quite enough.
Actually it was a great "phone" but now it's just an itouch or game&watch, or may be elastic baloon according to the technician solution.
Thanks htc ... No more purchases

Anyone else getting a loud short crack sound when calling,ie just before the dial tone starts. It's pretty annoying, especially when you know it's coming.
Have updated and tried several custom roms to no avail.

Nope...
I got one still stock and the other one had 3 roms on it as yet.
But nothing remotely like your problem..
Was it like this from day one??
Can't say I've noticed anything like this either?
Maybe it's the speaker for the phone turning on? I've heard slight noises as that happens before, but never a loud crack noise.
Alternatively, wait till it starts to ring before putting it to your ear.
Not exactly my idea of a quality 'telephone' if you've got to hold it away from your face before you make the call. And yes, it has been like this from day one.
Most likely a faulty unit.

So don`t bother with it ....Return it..
I get this exact sound before every call...I was hoping it was not h/w related, as I'd hate to have to return it.
I got mine unbranded at Media Markt in Germany.
I get a noise when calling someone. It's a sort of distortion when the volume is set on the highest. I hear it when it's ringing and when the person speaks a bit louder than usual. Is this normal? Has anyone experienced that?
Same problem here but not every call more like 80%. Hope it is software side anybody had contact with HTC about this?
Gesendet von meinem HTC One X mit Tapatalk 2
network signal maybe?
I have only noticed similar noise when making phone calls during network/signal problem. Meaning I have only 1 bar signal or none or in area with bad connectivity. I did not notice anything when I have full bars.
It seems that my speaker was out of its place since my phone fell. Its nothing serious the guy fixed it instantly. I might get a replacement speaker if the sounds comes out again.
I am a bit disappointed though since the fall was barely from 30 cm from the ground. Not a solid handset.

Coming from Galaxy Nexus and got my HTC One X today.
1. This thing is a beast. I am getting Antutu benchmarks of 11000+ right out of the box compared to 6500 on Galaxy Nexus. Amazing!
2. Strange static sound when I click any icon. I do not know if it started after i rooted my phone or did it exist from before?a little bummed coz this phone costed about 650+. I have put it on mute and it still makes that small 'chit' sound which is annoying.
Everything works just perfect apart of this issue. Wondering if anyone has any solution to this yet?
PS: subject has a typo: it is sound not doing.

Are you talking about a sound that's made everytime you select something on the display? If so, it can be toggled off/on under: settngs>sound. It's in the last category toward the bottom of the page. The sound made when typing on the keyboard can be controlled seperately under: settings>language & keyboard>HTC Sense input.

Thanks for your reply, but no it is not that sound. I have turned off that sound already. It looks like it is a static sound and looks like it is coming from camera shutter. I have the sound set to zero through audio manager pro so nothing should be coming out. Very strange.
shake your phone near your ear, 90% chance you will hear a rattle, either the camera or the volume rocker, what ever is causing the rattle is the same that you hear when you press the screen, remove vibration feedback and you will feel it less
most One x have it so don't worry

Hi,
this has been posted a few times by different users, including me.
As the title says, when making calls the volume is not loud enough, while other people has to turn the volume down.
On the online chat with HTC they told me to compare it with other HOX but i only have one :silly:
I am on T mobile uk and ARHD 7.2.1 but flashed many before. Tried sim card on an old phone without any problems.
Warranty or there are other solutions? Please help is driving me crazy whe call my misses (is me shouting at her, for her to shout back)
Thanks
I turned the hearing aid setting on and it's loud enough now.

have you per-chance installed a cover or protector over the speaker holes?
I've had this issue a while ago, and I found out that it was because dust had gone through the ear piece and settled.
Try to clean you ear piece with a soft (and clean off course) toothbrush, I was astonished by the amount of dust that crept in.

Maybe you just clean the holes , a needle might help, then vacuum it careful solved the Problem for me....

I too do not have the hearing aid option!
ARHD 7.2 but FWIW I don't ever remember seeing it in stock 1.26, 1.28, 1.29 either
Maybe this option only exists in the leaked base.
Arhd 7.2 is based on leaked 2.05 base...

It will solve the voice problem
i had same problem with my HOX when i bough there isnt any problem with my phone but in time i realize that incall volume is too low
at first i think its a software /firmware /costum rom problem but i learned that there isnt any solution with software (yet) and a decided to opening my phone for analyzing problem and than i noticed that actually incall volume's speakers volume isnt low but when i closed my phone volume is decrasing
and i found the problem the holes on the incall volume's speakers are filled with dirt and its blocking the volume i opened holes and at last i solved the my problem
if u have any question about that solutian please e-mailet to me eczahmetcetiner @ hotmail. com i will ansver for everybody
Screen replacement
If you had sent your screen for replacement and are suffering from low volume.. This could be the reason
The dudes over at the service place didn't remove all the protective plastic that come with a new screen... There was this small plastic piece protecting the earpiece from behind the holes.. it was sitting between the holes and on the earpiece speaker. Removed it and what a difference..
Hey everyone. I have a weird behaviour that i just realised and i have no idea for how long is there and if it's a feature
First of all let me mention that i'm on ARHD 21.0 and xmister kernel #305
OK for my question now. If i'm on a call the proximity sensor is working as expected. When close to my ear screen off, when away screen on.
Now if i enable loudspeaker the screen goes off even though the phone is nowhere near my phone and i need to press the power button to get the screen back on. Same thing happens when phone is connected via bluetooth and i get a call. Screen goes off even though the phone is on the table.
Is this normal behaviour or something to do with ROM or kernel? Can someone confirm this before i start flashing other roms or kernels?
Thanks everyone
I'm on slimbean 6.2 and it doesn't do it. Called my wife especially for you lol, switched between normal, loudspeaker, aux in-line and Bluetooth and the sensor only knocks the screen off when using phone on the ear
