[Q] Temperatures - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys,
I wanted to know some basic things about the temperatures of the phone, both battery and CPU. The thing I would like to know is, what are normal temperatures of the battery and CPU, and what is not normal (not healthy) for the phone itself.
I'm asking this because my phone gets warmer and warmer since a month or so, the CPU easily gets to 63 degrees celcius by just watching the homescreen or browsing. I've tried many ROMs and kernels, but the heat still is the same on those.
Please give some feedback.
This is what I got so far:
CM9 Nightly's
- Stock kernel - 63 degrees
- GLaDOS kernel (NO OC) - 63 degrees
- Trinity (1344mhz) - 63 degrees
AOKP #39 (working on it)
- Stock kernel - 42 degrees
- GLaDOS -41 degrees
MIUI 2.6.8
- Stock miui kernel?? - 60± degrees
*All these results are from browsing the internet and other minor things.

Hi,
There is already a ton of thread about the temperatures...:

I stop here...
To answer your question the CPU temp depends of your settings like overclock,undervolt,rom/kernel,room temperature,etc...Actually what is your rom/kernel and settings?
Some roms/kernels suffers of heat problem according to some users...
63°C if you do nothing expect just watch your screen and nothing running in background like a download...yes it's hot.Maybe an app in bachground wich cause an higher CPU load->heat,like Facebook app if I remember right.
63°C while browsing,nothing abnormal...
And if you check your CPU temp just after browsing...wait 1 min (or little more) before the temperature begins to decrease for have a correct/real CPU temp in "light" use.
Also if you use your phone while charging it heats, much more...
But strange your CPU temp is the same (63°C),like you said,as browsing or do nothing? If it's 63°C just watching the screen...while browsing it should be 80°C!
You said you have flash many roms/kernels,begin from scratch with a stock rom/kernel for see.If it's good try another custom rom/kernel.Makes a full wipe between each flash...
The stock temp limit before thermal throttling is 64°C (lower CPU freq to prevent "dammage") and the max before the CPU shutdown is 110°C...The extreme protection and the extreme overheating and this for those who have a kernel wich allow to modify the CPU temp limit.
Also, take a look at the links above
You want feedback:
Actually with Franciscofranco's kernel->in sleep:22°C,in light use (settings,home screen,etc...):about 40°C,while browsing in 3g:about 55°C,while benchmarking:about 75/85°C...Overclock to 1.53Ghz,no undervolt.
And for battery temp, even if I don't watch regularly it's about 30/35°C,depends of my use.

Viking,
Thanks for your reply man, this is a sort of answer I looked for all day (yes believe me I've searched the forums(they should optimize search results), I will try some other combinations.
CM9 with all kinds of kernels is pretty hot 63± degrees for me, I will check out other ROMS with kernels and will post back here.

If it is heating up while not doing anything, it is likely that you have an app that is running in the background and eating up processes. Are you using a task killer? Also if the phone ever gets to a temperature that is harmful it will shut itself off.
"Long is the way, and hard, that out of hell leads up to light."

Havent got anything really bigg running in the background, the phone doesnt get's too warm when the screen is just out, only when using it. The phone shouldn't get hot from those processes, only use a bit more battery but I dont mind that.

If it is getting up to 63c when using it there is something going on in the background.

[Q] Best Kernel on G2 with MIUI

Trying to find out to anyone using or not using MIUI which kernel is the best for the G2, i am also trying to find out what SetCPU profiles work best with that kernel from personal experience.
Curious myself.
*bump*
I'm on the latest Pershoot and battery and performance is some much better than stock kernel. In fact, battery life is possibly better than Sense! I OC'd to 825-1497 MHz screen on and 245-368 with the screen off. I get the occasional (once in the few days I've been running the ROM) refusal to wake up, but I heard that's a bug in CM (which MIUI is based off) to do with OCing + screen on/off animations. I did, however, get tons of freezes and reboots when my maximum frequency was set at 1516MHz, which seems to be above the threshold my phone can take.
Anyway, that's my experiences, YMMV!
Hope I helped

I have been in MIUI_1.07.15_OsiMood v1.0 (just flashing to 1.2)
atleast in 1.0 FM-radio on desire z didn't work whit Streamline5 and Pershoot 2.6.35.13 kernels. on default kernel it works.
i dont think i'm going to try out those kernels in 1.2... any kernel suggestions whit smartass/conservative governors and hopefully working FM-Radio?
Which version of MIUI are your running?
I'm currently running Carpes' Miui Version, "Light Gets Lighter"
The kernel I use is Eugenes' Streamline5 Kernel which can be found here Streamline5
He has a MIUI version but for some reason doesn't run well so just download the Original.
Here is the download link if you have trouble finding it > kernel download <
As for Setcpu settings
Max/Min
Main:
1000/800, smartass
Profiles:
Screen Off: 384/245, smartass
I only find the need for a screen off profile because I like my phone kept on low hz and it's pretty much the same as battery charging profiles if you have the same hz
Its also recommended not to underclock lower then 245 as it will cause a lock up or freeze being unable to wake up due to slow processing speed
1 Day, 13 Min, 56 Seconds = 21% Battery Left
Total about 1 hour browsing internet, maybe 20min total of youtube videos and moderate texting

I was coming in to say just about the same thing. Funny because I'm usung the exact same SetCPU settings. Streamline5 is the absolute best way to go.

Happy to hear and yes, Streamline5 is awesome!
If Both our reviews still don't help then maybe this will. Another great thing about Streamline5 is that it will still run smooth even if you leave it clocked at just 800 alone and maybe squeeze a little more juice out .
Reason I scale it to 1000 is I like the little speed boost it gives me
Yes, got Tiamat kernel runing in my MIUI, and looks like everything is working fine, even FM-radio...
has all the necessary governors, and goes up to 2ghz

I can't get past the bootanimation after flashing streamline5 on CarpeNoctem"s miui. any help would be appreciated.
also, can I manually change the min mhz up to 245?

[Q] HELP PLEASE:Battery life unable to last a day

Hey, I'm curious to see whether there is something that I could do to my BUZZ to gain more battery it's currently got SPLASHMOD rom, and clockwork mod... I'm just unsure because it was fine for ages with the CyanogenMod but then deteriorated for some strange reason I hadn't downloaded something I shouldn't neither use something that would drain the battery so I'm pretty confused I'd be grateful if there was an explanation I'm pretty much a noob at this type of stuff so go easy on me.
Thank you for your time
Just decrease the CPU frequency.. If u dint set the CPU, then go for "Atutu battery saver" App.., it helps you to get battery life for whole day with experiencing all the stuff, For me normally batter drains in 9 or 10 hours normally, but after installing this app, it helps me to withstand 40+ hours for my normal use.. It just sets your CPU frequency low and optimises your mobile phone so that no resource will be using battery.... have a try..
try decrease the cpu and set sheduler on powersave
Like the guy above me try decrease your cpu and set your sheduler on powersaver. It works good for me. And you can also try to use other roms. Some roms just use more and really I have no idea why
I will yell you why.......
Cos some roms have so much sh#t running in the background that most users are unaware of,also app after app to do this and to do that will not help in the slightest.
Turn your screen brightness down, stop overclocking, manage your lmk and ooms, sort your syncing out, stop adding placebo scripts etc etc I'm bored now so I hope you get my point.
UTID
i am using splashmod v1.8 and im getting very good battery life after calibration
i used to use CM7 and get 20 hours battery life on moderate use..
with splashmod it goes upto 40 hours....with 2g networks, wifi sometimes and music ... + splashmod v1.8 is very fast!

[Q] Dat memory usage, yo...[VZW Gnex] (SOLVED-ISH)

I have tried almost every rom/kernel combination available and cannot seem to sustain an acceptable amount of RAM usage. I constantly have over 60-70% memory usage and there is NOTHING installed on the phone yet! It's causing massive slowdowns that make the phone nearly unusable. I cant seem to find the problem.
Currently using PA 4.3 beta with ASKP 4/2 build. Same issue. I've tried 4.2.2 roms, 4.3 roms, and every available 4.4.2 rom + kernels.
Is there any way to cut down the RAM usage? An app, a mod, a kernel/rom combo that will help me out here? Or is it just my device? I had one before and do not remember it being this awful before
since nobody seems to have any insight, id like to update with a note or two...
PA 4.3-Beta2/Dirty-V 20140422 is BADASS. Memory management is MUCH better. only about 40-50% RAM usage anymore. here are the settings im using (with TricksterMod for PERFORMANCE...battery is...meh):
General Tab:
I/O - 1280/fiops
CPU -
Min 350000
Max 1650000
Max Scr. Off 525000
Min Scr. On 350000
Governor - interacivex/smartassv2/ondemand (i switch between them for no reason at all really, just to test the difference. none really noticed. dyninteracive causes bootloop)
Specific Tab:
Content Adaptive Brightness - ON
Force Fast Charge - ON
Multicore Power Saving - 2 (just because...dont really know what impact it has)
High Performance Sound - ON
Headphone Volume Boost - 1
Vibrator Strenght - 127
Dynamic FSYNC - ON (havent noticed an impact either way...maybe battery life?)
Temperature Limit - 80
Temperature Throttle - ON
GPU OC - 384MHz (512 on my device causes garbage/lag in alot of games)
ZRAM - OFF (dont really understand its purpose...)
Voltages are untouched (suggestions?)
Phone does get pretty hot playing games like Asphalt 8/Real Racing 3/CoD: BOZ/CoD: Strike Team/anything graphically intense, but they all run exceptionally well. Apps that arent intense on resources are super snappy and much more responsive than they used to be on any other kernel/rom combo i tried.
These are just MY settings (again...for PERFORMANCE) Battery life is great depending on what im doing and how long im doing it for. Left alone with moderate internet usage i can get about 3/4 day with it. Gaming...forget it lol.
Any tips on better performance without the heat?

Still heat exists

Hi everyone. Is the heat persist for everyone. Mine in average 65 degree centigrade and going to Max 73 degree centigrade (through cputemp in status bar xposed module). I'm using telsa rom latest build (based on CM11 R17). I have also tried many custom roms and kernels, mods, underclock but same heating problem. Is there anything I'm missing out. Is there anything really working heat problem solution .
Please help let me know any information to be provided further.
try latest carbon rom... mine doesn't go above 38 deg, 45 deg n 60 deg while idle, while using phone n while playing games resp...
Try Latest Carbon or CM11.
I didn't noticed any heating issues in the latest CM11 builds!
I believe that the price of the phone tells us we should NOT have great expectations.Still,it turned out to be an amazing phone, with a great camera, good performance,no major issues(trust me,i owned an xperia L.that phone has obvious issues and Sony does nothing to fix them.I would sue them if I could for selling that on the market). The heating problem can't be avoided.I'm using latest CM11 and I use mostly balanced profile(1401 mHz top frequncy),and when using the phone to send texts,a little browsing, calls and so on it doesn't get heated up,or it gets a little warmer if you watch youtube videos for example, but when I play games, that's a whole new story. It is obviously that the phone is very hot,way above average. And that's it,we have to deal with it.We can't do anything, that's how the phone was build, the materials they used and so on.On stock the phone has some thermal engine control,if the phone got too hot it dropped the CPU frequency. Now on CM11,there's nothing similar,so we have to be careful to not let it stay hot as hell for too long,it might burn the CPU.I will ask the rom developer about this concern.Hope I helped you.All the best !
The best solution for "Heating Problem And Faster Battery Draining":
1)Flash latest Carbon Rom RC6 4.4.4 (it has its own kernel which is very much optimized and has some more governers)
2)After flashing Carbon Rom click go to settings>about phone> click build number 5 to 6 times to activate Developer options and Performance menu.
3)In performance menu Set maximum speed to 998 Mhz and minimum to 300 Mhz, Set the Governer to "conservative" and I/O Scheduler to "cfq".(If you play games alot then set max frequency to 1190)
4)Install Xposed framework
5)Install Greenify app, now activate its module in Xposed Framwork.
6)Add all applications to greenify list and greenify them. Set the Working mode to Boost. Also check auto hibernation mode.
7)Also create a hibernate now shortcut to homescreen to greenify apps frequently when you dont use them.
Now your phone will never heat and it will increase your battery by 50%
Enjoy
cm11
try cm 11 with xcelerate kernel for better batt and heat control

Best kernel configuration (for rooted G4) to improve speed and battery

With root we can modify some kernel parameters of a stock or modded kernel. What is the best configuration you have found to improve speed and battery?
I start first.
ROM Genisys 3.4 Marshmellow 6.0
Kernel SuperXe 1.6 (stock cpu freq)
App Kernel Adiutor
CPU Governor (for big and LITTLE cores): interactive
GPU Governor msm-adreno-tz
Adreno idler: on
Scheduler I/O: Zen with 512kB Read-ahead (for internal memory); BFQ with 2048kB Read-ahead (for external SD - 64GB)
TCP congestion: Westwood
Doze settings: GeraldRudi profile
With that settings, apps and games run fast and smooth and I have a great battery life for a day full of work. And yours?
Stock.
Everything runs fast and stable. Battery lasts all day, 4h SoT :good:
I am the battery champion around here - lol
I routinely get 22-30 hours!
running Stock 20B, rooted, unlocked bootloader and a few little tweaks here and there (chase down what apps are running when idle and kill them off if not necessary with Autostarts or similar program and debloat anything your do not need - I use Link2SD and convert system apps to user apps then reboot and uninstall them)
and don't run silly stuff you don't need, such as CPU governor - the one already running on your phone works as well as any, having two just wastes CPU time and confuses things

22 hours SoT indeed is very impressive. 22 hours runtime is nothing special, at all :good:

your comment seems silly, what kind of moron would keep his screen on continuously for 22 or 30 hours?
like when you are talking on the phone, typically don't need the screen on for that! - or using the phone for music, or as a wifi hotspot, etc.
the trick I was trying to convey here is to keep the screen *off* as much as possible, and as few apps and processes running as possible, both background and foreground!
but I certainly didn't mean the phone was idle either, it's always being used :good:

So the result is normal and/or really bad, without stating the SoT.
22/30 hours is nowhere near champion level, at all. Hence my ironic remark.
