[Q] Setting Google Account as Primary Contact Storage - HTC One X

I learned this the hard way....
When adding a new account to my phone, by default it chooses the phone as the storage location for the contact. On my ATRIX 4G for example it would allow me to choose my Gmail account once and use that setting for all future contacts. While the HOX let's me choose the gmail account, it does't have an option (that I can find) for choosing my default method.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks!

The same way as you described. When adding a new contact, the very top option shows either phone, google or sim. Choose google, enter the contact and save it. Each time you go to add a new contact it should show google, at least it does for me

Yes I see the option there. But I'm curious if there is a setting that allows me to select a default so that instead of defaulting to phone it goes to Google? or removes the part where it asks all together.

Not that I've noticed on any of my HTC's I've had before. Just once you save one contact as google, it stays that way as default.

I created a 'dummy' contact and selected Google as the place to save the contact. However when I return to create a new contact it reverts to Phone. Are you saying that on your device after you save 1 contact to google any subsequent contacts are saved to google automatically?

Yes, every contact I've added since the first are saved automatically to google. In my contacts I have it set to show only google contacts only, maybe that's why it automatically sets it to google?

This would be your best solution, if not then I don't know what will.
The default when you have your google account logged into your phone should make your "People" saving default to google.

[Q] Contacts not prefixing '+' or actual number - not working

I have a weird recent issue where some contacts are showing up as '614...' rather than '04...' or '+614...', so they don't dial, even though the stored number is '04...' which dials fine. I noticed with one contact that if I de-lined Facebook it defaulted back to the actual stored number of '04...' - any thoughts? The Starburst ROM dev has not heard of this issue.

Indeed, try this...

Thanks guys! The thread is about HTC Sync corrupting Email Addresses in Outlook 2010 though, I searched Android Forums and couldn't see one about Facebook sync error, do you have a link handy or is that actually the right thread?
It seems to effect some contacts with phone numbers in their Facebook profile, that over-rides my contact details with the '614...' number that doesn't work. So i have to de-link Facebook for those contacts.
message deleted, wrong thread.

Here is what I did, this is only a partial solution:
De link the accounts.
Now select the account on your phone which has the correct number and now link it to the FB account. I think the account which is chosen first overrides the info in the "linked" one.
OR
You have to do this everytime you have such a contact:
dial the number from facebook. hang up once the dial screen comes into play. Go to your "call history", long press the contact, select -- Edit number before call (I think this facility is only on sense based roms, correct me if I am wrong), punch in the correct number and now you can dial.
kinda sucks but this is my workaround.
sounds like I'm not alone. so first of parent account overrides?

Tried going in to primary correct contact and linking, didn't work, will try the other way around.
edit, didn't work either, facebook always overrides.

Try this, works for me (but not in the Sense Contact widget)
- Edit the contact in question
- Change the original number from mobile to fax
- Save the changes
- Back at the main contact view press and hold the 'fax' number and set to primary contact
- Edit the contact again and make it a mobile again
- Save changes
This should then show the correct format and allow you to ring the contact
If only Facebook would allow people to enter the number as they want, with or without international dialing code
Well as a workaround that actually works, thanks! At least I can hobble along now until this Facebook sync problem gets fixed. Any idea what's causing this or if it effects only some phones?
Another one here with the same problem. It's so damn annoying!

Address Book Issues

I have some issues with the address book after installing [BETA 0.11][03.06] ICS for Desire[ALL HBOOTS][4.0.4].
I am unable to add new contacts and cannot add a number from call history to people.
This is what happens:
Add New Contact
Click People icon from the main menu.
Click the + icon at the bottom Right Corner
That gives me an option of adding the Contact to my Gmail Or Hotmail that I have configured. But does not give me an option to add it to Phone Address Book.
Add from Call History
Click the Phone Icon to go to Call histoty.
Press on the number I want to add to People.
Gives me three options, Add to Contacts, Call Number, Send Message.
Select Add to contacts.
That gives me an option of adding the Contact to my Gmail Or Hotmail that I have configured. But does not give me an option to add it to Phone Address Book.
Read on some other forum that, the work around for this is to Press and hold the unknown number. A menu will pop up allowing you to send a text to the number, edit it, save it to contacts But here also the same, Can add it to Gmail or Hotmail. Not Phone Contacts.
I'm on another ICS ROM: BCM 3.7U0 and it's the same. I'm guessing this is how the ICS built in People app functions.

Hi
It seems that Google with ICS have removed the feature of storing contacts on locally on the phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582586
Taken from the above thread:

I'm still not a fan of this fact. I rather liked having them separated so that I could leave business contacts on the phone (actually the SIM, i didn't save any contacts to the phone itself) but ICS killed that. I'm not talking a backup to SIM, I didn't want the business numbers in my google account, period.
As to the question at hand, I leave it to Google and the account I made just for the phone, they already have hundreds of copies of the contacts on multiple servers. Anything else is going to be prone to error, incompatibility, corruption, etc. Also, google does the restoring & updating all on its own, no thought needed.

Go Contacts EX from Google Market, solved my issue. I can now store contacts on phone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jbapps.contactpro&feature=search_result

After reboot. Contacts appear in messege and phone as unknown.

I rebooted my phone and after reboot I saw that in the phone app the numbers I dialed before appear as unknown and in inbox the name of the contact doesn't show. Only number. But in people I have all the contacts. I need to "save as existing contacts" from the inbox and then the name shows up in the inbox. Hope o could make myself clear because it's an unusual problem to explain. I never had this problem and it happens after every reboot. I am on viper and ncx

Oh man, you have so many problems. Didn't you say that you were gonna leave and stay on stock? Please do that, its better for everybody.

Go into "people", on the top left corner tap "Phonebook". This dropdown list shows you which accounts on your phone are enabled to show contacts.
If your Main Google account to which you have synced your contacts is not checked, check it. If it is, uncheck it then check it again.
This happened to me once, and this solved it. Hopefully it'll do for your too.

[Q] help-get rid of contacts imported from google

so when I changed out my sim card for new sg3 at tmob store, guy told me to import google contacts even though I explained they were on old phone only. Afterwards some contacts now have like 4 contact listings. Kind of a pain...so my question is how can I get my phone to not display my google contacts...I see options for sim only etc...but like i said my previous phone stored them on the phone not the sim. I'd like to not have google contacts showing then somehow move phone contacts to sim card.. Right now I'd have to move all contacts (including google to sim) which I don't want to do for reasons stated.
thx in advance
Select all, deselect the ones you want, delete. That's the fastest way I found. You coulda been done in the time it took to post.....
Go to your Google account settings on the phone and uncheck sync contacts

He said he already tried that.
OP seriously... just select all and unselect the ones you don't want to delete. I don't understand waiting days for a solution instead of just taking a few minutes to do it.

That would only happen if you for some reason also copied them to the SIM card. When using smart phones and you have a data plan, I find it incredibly dumb to use only the SIM for contacts... why not just add your SIM contacts to Google, hide SIM contacts and display/sync Google contacts? Contact info on SIM cards is completely archaic.

I would have no issue using google contacts as opposed to the sim card, but google seems to import EVERTHING! So an example is say Joe Smith, I have Joe Smith cell#, home # etc, and email in my contact for him. Then google creates a second contact which shows Joe Smith email, then a third one for an old Joe Smith email, then a fourth one for Joe Smith biz email.
Thats my issue. So when I go to call Joe Smith, I open one of the listings, ok nope not the one, open another etc...

I hear you with the select all then deselect ones I need to keep. Problem is, google imported like everyone I ever emailed, and each different email address for a person is now listed as a separate contact under the same name..The one I need is not always listed first...(see my previous reply for some color on it)

[Q] Changing the G3s default contact location

Hi guys,
I'm curious as to whether anyone has worked out how to change the G3s default contact storing location. By default it chooses the phone, however I want it to save to my Gmail account, meaning I have to change it manually each time. It also means that if I forget, somewhere down the line I'm going to end up accidentally losing some contacts if I change phone.
Any ideas?
I chose my Gmail contacts to be displayed. When I go to add a new contact it automatically says my Gmail at the top as the place to save. Give that a try?

Yep, this worked for me. I tested it with entering in a test contact and then editing it. It showed up in my account online and changed accordingly.

Hmmm, very odd. Mine still defaults to phone. I've tried setting up numerous fake contacts in various different ways, but nothing sticks

I've got same problem 10h EUR. Contacts to display google only, but phone still asks me to save on phone and not google account. -.-
Same Problem here always Phone
This was the same on the g2 as well
Okay, so this is peculiar then that the majority of us can't change this behaviour. Apart from the two reports above from people who aren't having this issue, is there anyone else?
I'm wondering if those that aren't having the problem have removed or frozen something or made some other change that is allowing them to change the default option?
Thoughts?

I've run Stump Root to get root, but other than that, I'm running stock. I just got my G3 2 weeks ago and I didn't think to check the contacts locations until I saw the thread posted up and made the change yesterday.
On my G2 it was defaulted to gmail contacts, as I recall, when I eventually looked in to it, it was already set.
Good luck and I hope y'all can make the change. That used to drive me nuts on my wife's phone.
Yes I have the same problem even if I change the saving location from drop list to Google, later on again the default is phone I talked to some LG Officials also but no any benefit :-s for that purposes Samsung is the best !!
