Hey everyone, this may be a way out there question but, i am going to get the HTC one X and i heard the CM9 rom currently being develpoed i think uses the franco kernel or something like that. i was browsing for apps i will put on my HTC one X and came accross this one https ://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel. does anyone know if using this is a good idea as i plan to flash the CM9 rom(being completed or not) when i get my phone.
I would suggest to always use the kernel recommended by the Dev of the Rom. The links for it should be available on the Rom Thread, or can be extracted from the Rom.zip

I've tested the cyanognmod Rom with Franco kernel and it works fine. However the link you have is just the kernel's updater and not the kernel itself, you have to flash that manually as we don't have s-off on this phone...

Does anyone have a link for a stock kernel which would be compatible with my set up (in sig)?
I want to try a stock rom to see if I can get sky go to work on my desire as it can't be used on a rooted device, others have had success by changing their kernel.
Thanks in advance.
As far as I know you are stuck with thalamus' kernel if you are running Oxygen rom.

So it is. But imho that's not really a disadvantage: _thalamus' kernel is a good one.

I agree. He does come to me as somewhat arrogant but I got to admit the dude haz teh skillz.
Could I try a stock rom and kernel and then go back to my current set up or would I then be unrooted?
Well you can "try" and flash the kernel I am using I suppose... but as far as I know it will break your camera and probably some other stuff I don't know. Do a nandbackup just in case you want to be adventurous. You only wanna find out if Sky would work if you change kernels first right?

Yes that's right, it has to be a stock kernel as sky do a check on the kernel before the stream loads apparently.
Well if it's stock kernel that it requires, then you have to use the official Sense based rom and kernel. All sense roms here uses a custom kernel so you are out of luck. You can't use Sense kernel on AOSP roms anyway.
OK cheers
I will have to wait for techy people to hack the sky go app then.
Depending on how Sky works, you can try and flash one those sense based roms. Who knows, the custom kernel they have might work. I have the impression that they are all based on the original sense kernel anyway. Or just wait for someone to hack the app.

Which zip did you flash to root?
Were you on stock ROM?
Did you make a backup?
And, don't worry; even if you do not have a backup, you can always use a RUU to restore your phone.

Hi, i thought the whole process would progress smoothly so I didnt make a NANDROID backup. Shock on me!!
I got the zip and rooting instructions from some shady looking website on the internet. I should have known better.
At the moment i wont be able to share with you the zip file, am at work. I think i'll try restoring my phone using the RUU. Hope all goes well.
Easiest way now..as you are unlocked and have cwm..use a custom rom and his boot.img..and you got it boot again..there are some tuts here on xda one x section

Android Development will be primarily Sense roms
Original Android Development will be roms built from source code or extensively coded by users, cyanogen for example
You can use roms from either sub forum.

Hi, again. I have settled for this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013506
FIXED :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
Sorry, noob here... not sure if I'm posting in the right place. Trying to figure out how to install pa Rom on my htc one v, and which version to use. I'd rather a stable older version, than a beta. Also, I was going to use 4.1.2, but then I saw 3.1?
Also, I've read different installation instructions/tutorials, and one mentioned flashing a kernel, one didn't mention a kernel at all-
And, one said that their instructions would only work on htc one v international Tegra 3- I think I have Qualcomm S4...
does that mean I can't use a pa rom? Or do I need to find a pa rom compatible with S4? And how do I verify which version I have?
If so, how or where do I find it?
Please help!
Thanks!
Wait .. u r using Hov right ?
HOV is S2 not S4
If u want stable PA rom use the P.A2.99

Htc One v comes with a s2 snapdragon only. and you need to find out if your a GSM or CDMA user(means do you use a sim card or not?)
if you are GSM then go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1554 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1898. if you are CDMA then go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1906.
Lastly if you use a sim card then your a GSM user or primoU else you have a CDMA or primoC.

No

Is there someone working on a kitkat Rom for the HOX?
And probably the answer is the same ... At least for now ...

no because it's for the one x plus or the att one x, if there is going to be a 4.4 rom for the one x international endeavouru, it will be reported in the development section on XDA first. please don't post things here that are potentially going to damage someones phone. do a little research first, like the filename and the download folder.....note the "xplus" and "att" in the folder name as per your link http://downloads.kanger.me/?dir=nightlies

Usually kernel partition image is included within a rom file. Open the rom zip file and look for the file boot.img.

Sorry for asking mate. Just to be sure... Did you flash the kernel file separately with fastboot command using usb cable? And have you tried to allow booting for 5-10 min. after the flash? If yes then you might really need another stock kernel to search (what probably you do with your initial post).
For a stock ROM, you can also use titanium kiss kernel. There are links to kernels in most Dev threads. Pick a sense ROM and grab the to kernel from there.
I also think that in q&a, someone recently asked for stock kernel and one was posted.
Happy searching
