Question about calls going to voicemail when not using phone. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Something weird happens. I am connected to wifi calling all the time when I am home because I get zero bars here. For some reason though, whenever I dont touch the phone for a lil while, whenever someone calls it goes straight to voicemail. Does not even ring. Almost as if there is no signal, which of course there is. I also randomly call my cell from phones here to see if it happens and they get through fine. Like I said, its only when I have not touched the phone for a while.
I am completely stock.
I have the wifi sleep policy on NEVER and the wifi calling settings on wifi preferred.
Any ideas what can cause this?
Also, cell standby says the entire time I have been on battery, I have almost 100 percent non signal. That happened with my amaze also but it never made me miss calls because it was always on wifi calling.
Any idea of what can be causing this, or what I can do to stop it. Using GB btw, not ICS

Stock GB?

[Q] Strange Arc S signal / battery drainage problem

I bought myself Arc S, it came loaded with .62 firmware. On my initial run, battery ran for about a day, later on for two or maybe even three days. Then I started to work in another country. As far as I remember, battery life was the same, even though the network was not (where I work now is 2G only, in my home country 3G). Then one day messed around with a Xperia S apps, did a stupid mistake and started to get force closes with launcher. I had to repair software.
Since the software reinstallation, my battery life degraded to less than a day without even touching it. Therefore I installed Battery Monitor Widget, to see, what is going on. I noticed, that battery drainage is about 70-110 ma in average, as far as I know, it should be much lower (under 30ma?). I have to say, that I tested this with .62, .42 firmware and it's all the same. When I turn phone to airplane mode, energy consumption lowers to under 5ma - which is normal i guess.
It began to bug me even more, as we bought small alarm clock with radio. I noticed, that when this alarm clock is on, despite from 2 other phones our room, my Arc S is the only phone, which makes this kind of searching-for-signal or calling speaker interference (noise coming out of speaker). My phone does that all the time, even in idle mode. This can be also heard when we have our TV on on. So, if I don't want to hear that, I have to unplug the alarm clock or put my phone into airplane, which sucks.
I asked a guy next building, if he has the same problems with Arc S, and he says that his phone can live up to 5 days with one charge (is connected to the same network provider), so I guess it is not network related?
I wonder, is there a possibility, my phone's radio is broken somehow? Or it was faulty, and firmware reinstall somehow broke it to the end? So that is draining battery all the time - looking for signal? Any way to fix this? Flashing different base bands did not help, tried that already...anybody knows a fix for this, apart from returning it to my provider - since I'm 4 months away from my country
Anybody heard for any similar problem with Arc S?
Thanks in advance! (if needed, I can also post battery usage screenshot, but I think it's not much of a help)

That seems like the issue here if I'm understanding you correctly. If you don't have 3G service where you currently are, and you did not turn off 3G, your phone will constantly try and find a 3G signal.
Airplane mode fixing the issue makes this seem even more likely. Try disabling 3G and see if it helps.
Problem is, that's what I did almost instantly when I came here, I set it to GSM only. One thing I noticed right now, when I check into About phone, under Mobile network type, my Arc S has: UNKNOWN, where my friends HTC says EDGE. Maybe here lies a problem? Why my phone can't detect network type?
Incredibly, I found the reason for my drainage and signal search. When I came into that country where I work now, my provider offered me to turn off data transfer (provider turns it off for me). Of course I did not want any unintended data transfer, so I turned it off by sending sms to service number. After I reinstalled software (that was my first reboot here), phone couldn't find network type for that reason, and was searching for it all the time. Yesterday I allowed data transfer by sms again, phone found EDGE network, can't hear any more noise on our alarm clock and battery drainage is about 4% per 8,5 hour. Excellent
I hope this helps anyone out there with drainage problems.
I think you can also turn off/disable data transfer/traffic with the Data traffic widget, if you want to avoid using data.
xperia arc s
hold up, i dont understand. so im pretty sure i have the same problem. get about 17 hours with berely using my phone on any rom/kernal/firmware. even with data turned off, betterbatterystats shows 'noor unknown signal' and 'no data conection'? i sued to able to get 3 or more days out of my phone??
I think there is an application, which might be keeping the phone alive.
dout it, still drains after a complete rom wipe

[Q] Phone reloads itself with no error messages, almost like hot boot.

I was wondering if anyone else was seeing this issue or knew what was causing it. My phone has for the longest time, been doing almost a hot boot on it's own, where I will notice the phone is at my desk, I see it come on by itself, menu and back buttons lit, and it looks like it reloads all the os. No errors, or crash errors, just on it's own. I have nothing stock uninstalled (everything on the phone is stock, rom included), did have some disabled via TB, but to test I allowed all services/apps to load as when I got the phone, still does the same thing, like every other day. I have the latest OTA, rooted, with the freeza update for LI3, running apex launcher pro and of course some apps/widgets like everyone else. This happens no matter what, but always on it's own. I have a widget that shows memory usage, and I'll have sometimes 300mb free, and once this "hot boot" the phone does, i'll be back at over 1.2 gb free, so I know it's reloading everything on the phone. is there any way of figuring out what is causing this, cause I know this isn't normal behavior. Any help would be great!
so I think I found the answer.. Via WIFI settings I had enabled under Advanced: Keep WIFI on during sleep, NEVER (increases data usage)... Of course when you'd then try to use your phone after some time, you'd notice it switch radios from 3/4G to WIFI, and sometimes it would take a few seconds to do that. When I had that option enabled the OS would reset itself after about a day of use, as I described above, not a full restart, no crash/force close errors, you'd just see the phone come on, and basically everything reloading.. After trouble shooting whether it was an app or something causing this, it was, I believe, the WIFI setting, since I changed it to keeping WIFI on "always" during sleep, in that advanced setting, the phone has not done the issue described. Going on 79 hours with no issues, which is the longest I've seen since noticing this problem.. So hopefully in the future if this happens to others, this method might be what was the problem/cure..
I always keep wifi on.. it seems to save a lot more power than 3g and its clearly faster =p.

[Q] sound/vibrate/mute switchin on its own

I am not rooted, original sprint rom etc
every time i put my stteing on vibrate it keeps on switching back on on its own, or it goes into ringer off mode,
same thing with the wifi it keeps on turning itself on/off by itself
any solutions???????????
Thank you
The wifi is from sprint connection optimizer. It turns it on when a steady connection is around. Personally i keep it on because I get much battery life just using wifi over 3g with 2 bars of connection since it struggles. But for the sound, I have no idea.. That's interesting..
anyone out there have any ideas how to resolve this?

Calls go straight to voice mail if phone is idle - ICS and Jellybean ROM

Does anyone have this issue at random times when the phone is idle? Sometimes calls and sms are not recieved when the phone is idle. The calls are sent to my google voice and sms spams like crazy when I turn on the screen. This has happened with ICS rom and the Pacman rom from the jellybean.
I've had this issue as well. I think it's a pecular interaction between AT&T towers (I'm on an AT&T MVNO) and Google Voice because it happened for me on official GB too.
I'm on tmobile. Do you think its the google voice software causing this? I didn't have issues when I was on gingerbread.
I also notice how I can tell if the phone went into idle where it rejects all calls and sms. If I turn on the screen, the time will move really quickly. The minute will move really fast till it catches up to the current time.
Today I will be testing the [ROM] [ICS] LiteROM 0.9.0 to see if it also has the same effect. Thegreatergood said he'll implement a fix where the CPU speed is upped a little so the phone doesnt idle too much. I'll let you guys know if the issue is still there.
The ROM [ICS] LiteROM 0.9.0 has the same issue.
So try some JB Roms. I'm running one now - looks promising :good:

I have the same 'No response to a call' issue after flashing AT&T UCLJ3 rooted on a Rogers i927R Glide.
Essentially, after the Glide has been idle for a while, not sure how long, at least 30 mins I think,
there is no response from the Glide when calling it, and it goes to voice mail, but not straight away though.
I can hear a ringing tone from the phone I'm calling from, but the Glide just sits there in sleep mode.
Try several calls but the Glide does not wake up.
Haven't tried sending it an SMS when this has happens though.
If I then wake up the Glide manually, and then put it into standby again and call it, it responds as normal and starts ringing.
The thing is, it doesn't happen every time, sometimes the phone could be idle for 2 hours and still respond to a call, other times it doesn't after say 30mins on standby.
Hard to troubleshoot as its so intermittent.
This did not seem to happen on stock Rogers GB.

What does everyone have this settings on:
WiFi advanced option "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" ?
I always had mine set to: "Always" so that when I'm at home or at work I'm constantly connected to a Wi-Fi access point.
I've changed this to "Only when plugged in" so that it will disconnect from Wi-Fi when going to sleep off charge, which I think will use more data and more battery but will see if this makes a difference receiving calls.
One thing I noticed is that when the phone is on charge, it always responds to a call.

I've been running this app for a few days now and have not had any instance of the phone not coming out of sleep to receive a call.

Choose PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK in the config.
BUMP ! I have this problem also on ORANGE in Romania Europe. I tryed with many custom roms, including RootBox, AOKP, Stock, And LITERom 0.9 baseband UCLJ9 and litekernel 1.2.2. The fix with wakelock seems to work but it's battery hungry (10%) two hours.
I heard that someone from S3 have the same problem and seems related on how the phone switch to different Version of radio (SHPDA UMTS etc) when recieving a call.

Sooooo fed up with wifi on the S4.

Anyone else have the wifi "deep sleep" or whatever and never wake up until you toggle on/off? The phone *thinks* wifi is on, so nothing on data comes through on 4g either so 10's or 100's of notifications just pile up until i cycle the wifi...
what gives?
sounds like your phone issue...
I would have returned the phone the first day it happened on the stock rom. that's just me though
