[Q] Blank SD Card After Screen Replacement - Cant even change Rom - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

At first I searched at the forum and read all about it but nothing worked!
Ill tell you the story:
My screen got broken so I bough new screen from ebay which cost me 178INS (Israeli New Shekels)..If I will give to the company in Israel to fix it it will cost 500INS (A LOT MORE!)
So I fixed the screen myself with a guide.
After an hour of switching the screen everything was ok...I wanted to check my music speaker so I got into my music and played a song..everything was OK.
My Rom has some problems with SD Cards when you plug it into computer so..After couple of hours when phone was working as well I plugged in my phone to the computer...Its autumatticly make is Stroage so I changed it to Charge only.
After a minute I saw somthing which said "Blank SD Card-SD Card blank or has unsupported filesystem."
I read on the forum about that and couldnt find a solution.
I got my SD Card into another HTC friend's phone and His HTC couldnt read it..What I found out : No One can read my SD Card and I cant read anyone else SD Card
So I got my SD card into a SD Camera updater and formmated it with SD Card formatter that somone in the forum gave to me...It didnt work.. I think the problem is really comes from my ROM and somthing got messed in there..So I want to change my ROM without SD Card (Cus I can't) and after I install the new ROM to format my SD Card and put it into my phone...
Afer all of thier:
Q1 : What do you think that new Blank SD card have? why it has started? how can I fix it?
Q2 : How can I change now my ROM without SD card? is that possible?
Q3 : I saw some people that had it too after screen replacement and that is because somthing in the back of the phone is not right (But mine worked until I plugged it into my computer...Link to the theard : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1440462 )
Thank you very much!

So then, the back covers are properly set?
Go into recovery, connect cell to computer, mount sd card, can you read the contents of the sd card that way?
As well, try someone else's sd card that way. Oh, and place something in the sd card - that is, if it's still working.
Sent from a dream.

Well..I guess the back is properly set cus it looks nice and it worked until I connected it to the computer...
And no..it Doesnt read the SD card that way ...
and that what is shows if I try to get into the recovery when the SD was insinde:when it get into HBOOT it gets stuck on
SD Checking...Loading...[PD98DIAG.zip]
Edit:
And when you say "The back covers are properly set"
What you mean the back cover?
SD card And Sim cover? Aluminum Cover? The hardware part?

Well?

Oh.... well, I'm out of ideas. My first thought is that it's a hardware issue. But if you say you were having problems before the screen replacement, then it could be rom related. Thing is, I would have thought that booting into recovery would be independant from the rom, thus, being able to read the sd card. However, I am not quite sure if the recovery is independant from the rom.
Regarding that it did work after the screen replacement does not mean everything was placed back correctly. But I do not want to recommend anything hardware wise since I have absolutely no knowledge in that regard.
If you can boot into your rom, and having adb push or whatever it's called, you may want to look into that to see if there is any possibility to fix your phone that way. It's usually used for other things, but you may want to look into that to see if it's possible.
That is, as long as you're sure that through recovery it is not working.
And as long as you feel confident that whatever you did to replace the screen did not leave anything loose. Once again, I have no idea regarding the hardware part.
Keep us posted. Maybe someone else may be able to help.
Sent from a dream.

Well thank you very much !
Ill try those out, and trust me that I very appriciate that you try to help me..!
Ill post here if I will have another problem at this section and Ill post too if I will fix it..
Thanks again!

You're welcome. Keep us posted either way.... you may want to try one other thing, see if cleaning the contacts helps.

FRom the Phone memory?

Problem solved
Well after a week or so with that problem, today I decided to open the phone again and check if everything is allright.
Well, I opned the phone saw everything allright put all back but same problem.
I opned the phone again (Only the Aluminum Part), took it off, and put my freind's SD Card.
Suddenly it Worked!
I closed the phone when it turned on put all back with the SD Card inside, and suddenly the problem came back. lol.
I will make it short - After an hour of guessing what the hell is wrong, I saw at the left side of the sim and sdcard plata, an Sticker that looks like Cross With black square on it which didnt covered all of the parts it needs too, and because of that when I put in a Screw the screw touched an exposed part and because of that the SD card didnt worked... It was hard to understand but I put the sticker as well and now my phone works greate
Well if somone will have Blank SD Card after replacing screen on Htc Desire HD or another HTC's , look that everything is in the right place..
Anyway, thx for helping

HTC P3300 SIM error

I recently had a problem with my touchsreen, today the new screen arrived and I fixed it properly. But when I start my phone he keeps asking for the SIM card. I noticed that he won't recognize my MicroSD either.
Is there anybody familiar with the hardware connectors of the SIM card?
Thank you
Are you absolutely sure you have fitted the Micro SD and the SIM properly - it's easy to do it a little wrong..... make sure the card is slid down inside the little side rails.
That's how I managed to break my screen!
Everything is in the right place. It keeps me telling that there is nog SIM card.
Even when I only put in the Sim and nog SD card or otherwise, he doesn't recognize them.
Help me please, otherwise I need a new phone and I don't know which

I have the same issue but not as bad as you. Only my SIM does not work. I have taken the Artemis apart countless times and this issue still exists. I believe I have a dud connection but the SD card slot works as I can access the my micro SD card without any issues.
My SIM worked until I decided to dismantle the device and change the casing!!! Big mistake!!
If anyone has had the same issue and resolved it please let me know as I've hit a dead end
Try a hard reset or update your rom.

[Q] Need Help In A Panic

Hello guys,
Well i installed Miui, I rooted my phone, flashed the ROM and it was stuck on the boot for a while. Rebooted went into Recovery and wiped it. Now it works but when i plug it in to the computer it won't pick up the USB. Along with that the SD Card is not picked. When i go into About Phone Sd Card: Unavailable available. So i went into SD Card settings and all of them are unavailable.
Help please! I'd like to go back to stock ROM but can't mount it :|
Really, I don't know why that would be happening and I don't know if this suggestion will help, but try removing the battery and then putting it back in. Maybe even take out the sd card while you're at it and reseat it.

I took the battery out around 8 times already. How i take the SD Card out?
Still didn't work i took out the battery and the SD card
I know searching on these forums is difficult, but part of the reason is because of all the duplicate threads. However, Google is your friend. I searched "SD card and USB fix Evo" on Google, and this was the first link that came up:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243
This happened to me a while back. Do the SD card fix first, then you can place the files to fix the USB problem on your SD card and you won't need ADB for that portion of the fix.
NVM got it all fixed.

[Q] Help! Play doesn't recognize sd cards

Hey everyone
I recently bought an xperia play but it has only recognized my micro sdcard maybe once or twice and even then I was still unable to mount it. I know this is a common problem but believe me i've been searching and trying fixes for ages, the battery cover one, repair in se companion etc. So now I think the only thing to try is to downgrade my firmware because the times when it read the sd card was before i updated it. So any suggestions on other fixes or a how to on downgrading would be greatly appreciated bare in mind it will have to be quite in depth as I haven't hacked Sony Ericssons before just a HD2. Thanks for your help
Matt
P.S sorry if this is in the wrong thread or anything like that this is my first post.
I just went through that problem it turned out that my sd card was "damaged"or something like that and the play doesn't pick that **** up at all, so I popped it into my x10 it noticed it right away and fixed it for me. I'm still not sure what the damaged part was cause I was still able to use the card in a computer. Try it in a different phone see if it works
Sent from my R800a using XDA App
Thanks for your help but yeah I tried a different sd, didn't work then i tried formatting both of the sd's still nothing and also tried them in different phones, I have no clue what else to try except downgrading and I don't know where to start
have you pushed the back cover properly into place - it has to click into place - I normally run my finger around the edge of the cover firmly just to make sure.
Normally the card won't mount or will keep un-mounting otherwise - don't know if it would say unrecognized. Maybe you formatted it in a format different to FAT32 - windows does it to bigger cards - try using EASEUS or similar partition managers
The battery cover fix was the first to come up when I started searching and i've been checking it's on securely everytime i put it on and whenever i've formatted it i've also checked that it is in fat32 but i will try a different partition manager and tell you how it goes
Thanks for the help
Tried it, still nothing
Can anybody point me towards a tutorial on how to downgrade or something because I can't find anything and I have no other ideas
Is it possible one of the notches on your back cover is broken and does not let xplay realise the back is on? If you could locate a friend with another back cover or test it in a mobile shop perhaps? Or maybe there is a way to make xplay to always believe that the cover is properly on somehow? Hope it helps
Under Settings/Storage, there is an option to Disable Safe SD Card. Try that to eliminate the cover as the problem.

Good idea i'll check the back cover now. Also I went into settings/storage and there was nothing about safe sd card thanks anyway
Since my last post I have rooted my play and flashed back to an earlier firmware. The phone now detects the sd card but I am having a different problem instead, I am unable to mount because it says blank sd or corrupt etc. I have tried formatting the sd card on my phone and it still won't mount, any ideas?
You have tried using another SD card right? If formatting it won't work, either you have to get a new one or unfortunately, send it in to SE for repair(whatever its called) since it may be the sd card slot reader that's causing the problems.Another question, did the memory card come with your play?

xperia play r800x sd problem fixed
I just went thru what your going thru and found a way to fix it
in addition to my sd card not reconised my wifi and for that matter
the top status bar were not working.
you will need >A working phone with a good sd card <
1-Turn both phones off <your x-play and the other working phone>i know you do not have to unmount but>> MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS to avoid frustation ..trust me ..
2-swap the sd cards
3-pick up the working phone which now has the sd card from your x-play in it <turn it on >
4-if you get a message on the top status bar <Damaged sd card> go to settings >storage>erease sd data
5- If the format worked then it will remount the sd card in to the phone and rebuild the file system in the sd card <if it worked then you are done swap the cards back>
6- <<if it does not and you get a unsuported files on sd card or still broken>> do not swap the sd cards put down that phone and turn on your x-play with the working card from the other phone >>
7- if your x-play is working with the other sd card then replace the sd card its no good
if 5 fixed it gg
if 6 your sd card is no good

Phone Wont Recognize/Read SD Card.

I want to start off by saying that I'm the type of person who likes doing things on my own before i get on the forums asking questions but Ive tried a lot of things and nothing seems to help.
So the issue I'm currently having is my phone doesn't recognize my SD card. When i go into the settings it says that the SD card is empty when in fact it's filled with my original files.
I know it's the phone cause I have tried several SD cards and it wont recognize them. Now if i have the SD card in the phone I can still scroll through the files using some kind of file manager but It wont load the apps on it like it used to. Another thing is if I connect the phone to my PC it will recognize the SD card and the files can be edited ect..
So the few things that i tried doing is removing the battery, removing SD card then inserting them both back in, formatting the SD card (killed my other one trying to format it btw) and still nothing. Wanted to go back to a date where the phone worked but since phone isn't reading the SD card it didn't let me.
Wanted to do a complete whipe so that at least I can get the phone to unrooted state but I'm afraid that the phone wont let me get into the files that are in the SD card to go back to stock ROM.
Don't know if the brand matters but i'll add the brand of the SD card anyways. It's SanDisk 1 GB. My other one that got burnt by some SD formatter was a Kingston. That one didn't work either. These SD cards worked on other phones BTW so i know it's either one the ROM or 2 the hardware.
Either way i have to get it to stock ROM to send it back to T-MOBILE so it can get fixed. Warranty is invalid when your phone is rooted. I am really in a tight situation.
If there is any advice that could lighten my day i'd greatly appreciate it.
Odin stock on it, see if it works after. You'll lose all user data. Also, sd cards fail/get corrupt. Happens all the time.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot to see if it works. Also, bought a SD card manager thing to connect to the computer and when it gets here going to try and see if it has any errors hopefully one of of these 2 things work.

[Q] SD Card Issues?

Hello everyone,
I just recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4. So far I really like it but I am having a problem. I have a 32 gig sd card plugged in and yesterday I tried putting some files on. Nothing fancy just music, a video, a couple kindle books, and some word documents. I had plugged the sd card into my computer dropped them on and put it back into my device. Well the device wouldn't find or acknowledge any of the files at all. It acted like they just didn't exist. So I plugged the sd card back into my computer and they were there. After a bit of rebooting my device I finally got it to acknowledge the stuff I put on. That lasted until I let the device go to sleep. This morning when I opened up my device everything was gone again. So I plugged it back into my computer and it was all actually deleted.
After that I tried putt stuff on it with the device tethered to my computer and the same thing happened. It wouldn't acknowledge anything kept on my sd card. Including kindle books.
I did some reading and just kept coming up with the kitkat and app compatibility issue that doesn't allow apps to save to sd but this doesn't seem like that. All of those posts seemed to be dated a few months ago so has that been fixed at all or is it still a problem and the only "fix" is rooting it? Is it related to the problem I seem to be having? If not what on earth is worng with it and how do I fix it?
I won't lie I am kind of a newb when it comes to anything beyond basic electronic issues so I really am at a loss for what is wrong with it.
Thank you in advance for any help.
Psylk87
P.s. Should I consider returning this tablet? The stuff I read about the kitkat seems like a huge problem when it has such a small amount of on board space. I have just basic stuff on it and still only have 6 gig on board left over. That means basically all storage will be on an sd card. I bought it to use for college so want to be able to take notes and reliably save stuff. Am I better off with a different tablet? If so what Android tablets would be best?

Any rooted tab is better.. Rooting it will allow you to fix your SD permission woes. More than likely the app you are using can't get access to the SD card thus why it shows up blank. Root the tab, and run the kitkat SD card fix app and never look back. This tab is great!

So basically it will always have the sd card issues thanks to kitkat? I tried opening the music and the video with the devices main video and music apps. But they also weren't showing at all when I went to look for them in the actual "My Files" section. Then when they totally deleted I got even more confused. It was 5 gigs of stuff just randomly deleted off the flash drive.
Is rooting hard? As mentioned I am a newb. I have never done anything like that and I have never used or worked with a rooted device. Won't it void the warranty and make it so I cant return it? It was fairly expensive so I am worried about ruining it haha.
I actually love the tablet so far so really disappointed with the issue. I have until the 14th of August to return it so I need to decide quickly.

Some people on this forum have reported that towelroot works on Tab Pro 8.4. It should be as easy as installing an apk and tapping a button. I already have CM11 installed so I didn't try it though..

Hi
I'm not new in flashing ROMs but I think somewhere I go wrong...
I had the Australian stock ROM and I thought to try a little bit de-bloated ROM to check if its better...
As I'm ALWAYS doing I did make a recovery full backup of my tablet and copied the TWRP Backup in my Ext. SDCard with the intention to move it in my PC for security. Reading how to flash the new ROMs, couple of times have been mentioned that I have to wipe EVERYTHING before I flash them... Against my better judgment I wiped my SDCard too and of course I wiped the new ROM too...
Oh well I thought I will restore my Backup and try again
1) TWRP did NOT read the backup from Ext. SDCard.
2) I d/l an Aussie ROM from SAMIFILES to start again and copy the TWRP Backup in SDCard in case something wrong etc...
Then All Hell Break loose
After Flashing the Full factory ROM I had in my tablet few only apps without ANY Google apps and I couldn't access my Ext SDCard...
When I took out the card to copy it in my PC and from there to tablet the card was corrupted loosing my original Backup...
After that I don't know how many times I've tried factory or XDA ROMs with all the time not able to access my Ext. SDCard (New one, works fine elsewhere) despite I tried ALL the SDFix apps in Playstore... I tried to change the properties of the card manually too but the same...
PLEASE can help me to Fix my Ext SDCard as the tablet is almost useless without it?...
have you tried copying the files to your main memory, then transfer those files from main memory to your memory card using the built in File Manager ?

There is a lot of misinformation and misunderstanding about the SD card permission changes brought by KitKat, and I do not believe the OP's issues are caused by those changes. We are unfortunately to the point where if someone has any trouble at all with an SD, they blame the KitKat permission changes; which is simply false in many cases. The KitKat SD changes have to do solely with write permission access and do not affect the ability to read the SD. The following article explains it well:
http://www.androidcentral.com/kitkat-sdcard-changes
And the KitKat changes certainly would not cause the card to be read after a reboot, then randomly not readable later, as the OP described. All this is pointing toward an issue other than how KitKat handles SDs.
I would suggest re-formatting the SD to FAT32 (on that subject, what is it presently formatted to?) and seeing if that helps. I saw a very similar thread on the HTC One (M8) forum where the person was having trouble with the phone reading content on the SD (worked fine on other devices), was blaming the KitKat rule changes, and simply formatting the card fixed it right up. Also, try a different SD card, if you have access to one.
If that doesn't work, its possible where is some software or (hopefully not) hardware issue such as a broken SD tray. But let's try to format the card and see if that does the trick.

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear... I CAN see the Ext.SD but I can NOT write... The card (2nd) it's empty and I can write in it files in my PC's Card reader which I can see in my tablet... I CAN NOT write a file or make a folder or anything when the card it is inside the tablet...
That's why I said the tablet it is almost useless as I can use only the native 16GB minus...
EDIT:
Problem SOLVED for whoever need to know how go here: http://winaero.com/blog/unlock-external-sd-card-writing-for-all-apps-in-android-4-4-kitkat/
Thank you guys for the help so far. Sorry I am a bit slow but my laptop died on me and I have been dealing with that.
I am glad to hear its more than likely just an sd card problem not the kitkat problem. I really don't want to root it. I actually adore this device and don't want to had to return it.
I have played with it more and I am getting stuff like pictures and videos taken on the device to save to sd so it is reading the sd card. It just wont read what is placed on it externally. Is is maybe that I have to tether and cant pull the sd card out?
I did reformat the sd card with the device. So it is formatted to the device. But it still wont acknowledge stuff I drop on it only stuff that is saved on it from the device itself. But I do know its working because its showing pictures I have taken with the device on the sd card in the built in file manager. So whatever it is it's not the card reader slot.
I am going to try xdm9mm's suggestion and see if that will work. If not what else should I try?
Before I can test another sd card I need to buy one (I looked and only had the one extra lying around). So what card do you guys use on it with success?
You're taking the card out and using a card reader? I think I know your problem, the same thing happened to me when swapping cards with my phone. You have to go into the system settings, and under general, select storage. From there you can unmount the microSD card before taking it out. If you don't do that, it won't read the card properly when you put it back in.

Every time I have taken it out I have used the unmount section. Originally I unmounted it put it in the adapter and plugged it into my computer. Then I dragged and dropped everything I wanted on it to it. Once I had done that I used "safely remove" on the computer and then plugged it back into the card reader on my tablet. That is when it wouldn't read anything at all. I reset it several times and finally got it to read for a minute but then when the tablet went to sleep it self deleted everything on the card. I am thinking the self deleting may be fluke because I have been able to save pictures taken by the device on it with no trouble. It just won't read anything I put on myself.
The whole thing is a bit confusing lol. I even took it to a computer shop in town but the guy had no clue what I was trying to explain. I am going to try another sd card and try tethering the device to the computer to drop in some new files. Hopefully that will help.

Hrm. Another possibility, have you tried filling up the card, say with video files, then checking from the PC to see if they all play? Most of the really cheap memory cards are fake (including on Amazon), they only have a tiny capacity, and the controller is set up to loop, so it will write the data without giving any errors, and the files will be indexed, but the data isn't actually saved anywhere.
