After ICS update, pin all the time - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I cant seem to understand why my phone, everytime i pin in, while i am doing anything, google play, contacts, text, anything, it will out of the blue bring me back to enter pin so i can go with whatever i was doing. How can i stop this? i do want to use a pin to lock my phone, but not to ask me for permission as is doing right now. Do all know, i search many threats but did not find a solution to this problem.

No one has an idea to this problem?

I had this issue once shortly after I got my phone. But after rooting with custom ROM, I have never had such an issue to date. This was also stock GB at the time and having moved to a custom GB ROMs and then into ICS, I have been good since.

Did my little brother brick his Evo? v.OTA

He ran the original OTA update the day before yesterday, he didn't run it twice like everyone else that had issues.. He's not bricked in the "won't power on or boot" sense of the term, it WILL boot up. But it's pretty much completely unusable, it keeps trying to remove and install widgets on its own, the touch screen does the opposite of whatever he touches, swiping between screens hangs and sits in between each screen, it keeps opening the htc weather widget and won't let you back out of it.. voice search keeps popping up randomly. It tries to install the htc coin flip widget, a lot. It basically takes 5 to 10 tries to get anything to work right, and when something does work right it's only for a minute.
He wasn't rooted in any way, and he tried doing a factory restore through the settings menu, as well as formatting the sd card.
Radio shack has no eta on a replacement and sprint says to just return the phone and get a different kind of phone if they are out of evo's (seriously..? wtf).
You guys are smart, is there anything he can do to try and troubleshoot this?
there currently isnt a way to root after the ota update, so the suggestion to try some cooked roms is out the window.
i dont want to be the bearer of bad news, but it doesnt look good.
I think he can try restoring to factory.
Download this:
http://www.joeyconway.me/evo/stock/...Radio_1.39.00.05.31_release_171253_signed.zip
Rename it PC36IMG.zip and put it on the root of the SD card.
Turn off the phone, hold volume down and turn it on, it should boot into hboot, sort of a factory recovery
It will automatically detect the zip file and ask if you want to apply it. Select yes, and it should restore to factory.
If you continue to have problems, then there is probably something wrong with the phone and it'll need to be returned.
Hope this helps!
Could this in anyway void my warrenty or make sprint un-willing to give me a new phone/ repair my phone if this fix does not work?
if that is stock, they would not be able to find out even if it further messed up the phone by attempting that method
...err taking a look, if he has the newest ota, then I am not sure if that link will work because it is a lower version. you would need to find the one that is for 1.47...
I am not even sure if that would work, but hey it is worth a shot if the phone doesnt work already
Use this ruu
It'll bring you back to stock with the latest OTA included.

[Q] Help with unresponsive rooted phone

Hi guys,
I need your expertise and ultimately your help!
So i was running Lee droid for months, it was all good, did loads of flashing of roms without never any (massive) issues.
Last week, i decided i wanted to try gingerbread, so I flashed gingervilain and the kernel that went this it. I din't really like it, i missed sense too much so i decided to go back to Lee Droid.
I did a clean install after wiping everything as i've done dozens of times in the past. But ever since a problem has arisen.
Whenever I'm on call, when i move the phone away from my face, the screen doesn't turn on and I can't turn it on at all, even when i press on the power button. Which means i can't hang up. So if i call someone and end up on voicemail, I need to remove the battery to finish the call, and whenever I am on the phone with someone I have to ask the person to hang up as I have no control over the phone.
The phone is to be totally irresponsive.
I tried to re-install gingervillain and had the same problem. So I reverted again back to Lee's rom, from a clean install and the problem persists!!
Last night I tried to format the card and I installed snq's new kernel, but it still doesn't work.
I have no clue what's going on. Could it be a voltage issue???
I'm s-on by the way.
I'm seriously confused at what the fark could be going on!?
Anyone has any idea?
On Lee's rom forum, a poster told me to flash a RUU or WWE rom. But I don't really wanna do that for two reasons :
1. I'm not sure it will work since installing Lee's rom on a clean install didn't solve anything
2. I don't really wanna go through the hassle of rooting my phone again
Thanks!
Using an RUU is your best bet since no one knows wtf is going on. I would say to do that as well and I'm sure maybe a few others would. Yes, you would have to root again (not like it takes forever and not like you have to do anything other than plug your phone into your PC and run the unrevoked utility, seriously). That would be your best chance for fixing it. BTW, using an RUU would wipe everything out and start fresh so it probably would fix the issue.
If it doesn't... well, that's for another time.
u can try go into settings turn off senser
exit settings
then go back in settings again set the senser on again
I see more and more people having the deep sleep bug, rooted or not.
Wish I knew how to fix the damn thing! The only sure thing is that if the phone is at stock condition (rooted or not does not matter), it doesn't have the problem.
When I install some apps, it would start doing this!
Alright, I guess I don't have much choice then! I'll flash a ruu.
Thanks a lot fo your help guys

[Q] SGH-T989D Screen Lock Issue/Failure

Hi Folks. I recently bought the SGH-T989D from Telus and am enjoying it so far. I rooted it the other day and everything went well and worked. I rooted with SuperOneClick which worked. After that, I looked around for custom rom's and settled on the rooted, Telus stock one from Mr-X. I have tried a few custom kernels as well, currently using the .10 rev of the Synergy Kernel. I need to be able to lock my phone due to having my work e-mail on it. Prior to this phone, I was using a BB and it was not an issue. However, since rooting this phone, I cannot put a code or passphrase on this phone and have it unlock the phone. I have tried the simplest of 4 digit codes as well as more complicated ones and trying the same on pass phrases. Once a code is set and the phone is locked, I am unable to unlock it. I have tried it also without the phone becoming locked, just trying to disable it and I am unable to get the code I set within seconds to acknowledge. The first time I did it, I thought I forgot the code as I set it as I was distracted. I have replicated this on this rom, Juggernaut and another. It has stayed across 3 different kernels. Each time I have switched to a new mod, I have wiped everything including caches and started fresh to no avail. I have never been prompted to recover my passcode/phrase via Google despite trying to unlock it 65 times the first time it happened.
I have researched this extensively here in the forums and on the net in general and cannot find mention of this specific issue. If someone could point me in the right direction, I would be eternally gratefull. My questions are:
1. Is there a fix for this and is it a known issue (or something I have created on my own)
2. Is there a means of resetting the code or passphrase short of wiping the entire thing via CWM?
3.. It worked fine when I was completely stock. The forum topic for how to get back to complete stock has a dead link for the Telus stock rom/kernel. Does anyone have a link to this as I am open to returning to stock.
If I have missed this being discussed in another topic or forum, I apologize but I would like to fix this on an otherwise great phone.
Sincerely,
Faseeshuss

completed factory reset

On a different thread i asked for help with regards to pin locked. While under GB i used pin lock with Go locker and also stock. Never had an issues. Since ICS update, as my other thread my screen will lock with Samsung pin lock with no matter what i am doing. So is getting extremely annoying. I have done 5 factory reset, 2 after finally rooting my phone. Now it has being weeks since ICS and i am still with the problem.
Trying to live with it, but now daily is getting more annoying since now is really asking for pin like every min. I went on a trip over the weekend. While using telenav, the phone ask for pin over 30 times within the 3 hour drive.
Now at this point, with TBU i have already removed but backup 5 bloatware and froze the most. Here is my question, what or how can i bring the phone to clean factory setting. Including formatting the card. Do know i checked it while under the other resets and never formatted.
I am hoping that with a new clean, swype, or whatever steps i can take to completey clean my phone of anything and everything it will fix this issue.
Any thoughts?

What delay are you using before pin lock comes on? Try and step it up a bit longer
i already tried the delay. Heck i even called tmobile and they couldnt figure it out. It happens while using it, meaning, i will be typing a text, and pin locks comes up, searching the net, using an app, anything, it will happened back to back. Especially installing an app. I will be on play store, download an pp, try to install it and pin lock will come up. And no just pin lock, i change it to lines, facial, and just slide and they all do it.

Have you tried darkside wipes and fresh installs without restoring TB data?
well there was no removal or installation with TB after the last factory reset. So here are my questions.
1. What is the different between, Clockworkmod recovery wipe/factory reset and the ICS actual factory reset?
2. I know i used Darkside cache wipe to fix my hanging failures after root with permission fix too. What would Darkside wipe do?
I just want to do anything and everything to clean my phone completely and start fresh while keeping root access. Also, if resetting the phone, should i reinstall all bloatware i uninstall using TB?
Any thoughts?
So, it seems that my problems, after visiting so many sites, as all know including this one, there is no solution. Except one. Since i am rooted, i might as well and crab my cojones and install a custom rom. This might help me removing everything and starting fresh.
Can any reassure me that i am not so stupid and i wont brick my phone? lol
Can anyone suggest a great rom? i dont care in regards to battery life and such, after reading under android development, i think all roms give just about the same. But maybe there is one that has being favor by most. And i noticed way too many under Android development.
Also, do all rom come with kernels, radio and all the necesary for the T989? or would this be things i will have to obtain separate?
I know i will be doing another nanbackup, using TBP for app backup as well as backup pro. But, should i reinstall all bloatware that i unistalled with TBP?
Thanks in advance for the time some have given me here by helping me.
I use the Infamous rom and it's been stable and worked well for me, though you will get several answers on this. Everyone likes something different. Since you are already on ICS, your radio should be fine. The roms all come with kernels. If possible, install your apps fresh from the market, sometimes there are issues when you use TB to restore apps or data.
Make sure to grab the darkside super wipe and darkside cache wipe tools. The first post in each rom thread should have flashing instructions (they are not all the same, some require flashing google apps, some have them baked in already).
Infamous is fiyahhhh power. Can't get enough and cant wait til next update. Its gonna be the ish!!! But don't stick to one rom. Try em all and choose for yourself. What I like might not be the same you like. Good luck

So i want to install a custom rom, but before i do i wan to another nand. I am trying to restore the following app which i uninstall with TBP (Talkbalk, voice command, and yahoo finance) however, it has being already 30mins since i click on Talkbalk and restore and until this point, right now is 749p (30 mins later) TBP it still saying restoring APP+Data talkbalk 3.0.2.
What can i do here? i am afraid of not uninstalling the following add and if i brick or want to go back to stock i wont be able to. Also, i did notice that i have little to no space under my system/app, i recall only install S Voice, but i dont even find that system/app, so i do not know what is taking all the space when i unistall 3 apps.
any suggestions?
no one has any ideas what i should do? or how can i get this programs reinstall?

If your still around, give me specifics of what you want done and I'll do my best to point you in the right direction. I'm not a dev but I can help you even if it means starting from scratch.
1) to reset back to factory. Look up a Google site called galaxys2root.com and find you model. Follow the instructions. You be back to factory. After you done all of that factory reset your phone from within the settings menu. You will erase everything on your phone minus your external SD card.
2) on the same site re root your phone and install superuser. It has a step by step guide of this as well.
3) search the forums on xda and find your device and the roms that are supported for your specific device.
4) you want to find darkside super wipe and darkside cache wipe. Install both on your SD card. Your get used to using both this tools.
5) choose the rom of your liking and install on your SD card.
6) follow ops instructions about install without any changes. Don't change any of the steps. If you do not follow the steps It will make the the install not work correctly.
7) BE PATIENT. Let the rom settle in your phone. After you install everything, make sure you fix permissions so that way everything falls into place.
..... this is the way I have done it and yet to have an issue. Your best bet is to read EVERYTHING. Don't just skim thru the original post and just go by the screenshots and choose just cuz it looks cool. Research all the thread to find out what issues are there and what not.
Last but not least thanks the dev or devs involved in the rom, tools, kernels that you decide to use. Their doing all of this for free. And I feel like I need to say this even tho I know it sound very minor. But Google is your best friend.

Strange question - To do with root

Hi guys i recently rooted my phone and forgot to do a backup, stupid silly me i know ! but now i know what i have to do but, i was wondering as whenever i flash my phone to a new rom aslong as i dont change the wallpaper i still get my old one, which is what i want to keep, and i cant re-download it as its a pic of my gf.. So im wondering i believe it restores it from google servers is that right? i cant find it anywhere on the phone by looking at root, would anybody have any suggestions?
Thank you.

Your pictures and SD contents won't be wiped, so you'll be fine. The ROM will start with whatever its standard wallpaper is, but after your gallery loads up, you can set your picture as the background again (takes maybe 10 minutes, more if you have tons of photos).
Btw, I never backup anything to the Google servers (just got in that habit with my Droid 3), and I never lose anything. However, if your bootloader is still locked, and you plan on unlocking it, save your files to your computer. I'm pretty sure unlocking it will completely wipe all of your phone's contents...

Many Thanks for your reply, I did indeed unlock the bootloader, and lost everything however when i put a new ROM on it kept my old wallpaper picture, do you know if this would be retrievable as surely its finding it from somewhere o.0?
Many thanks it is greatly appreciated !!
