I have a problem with my rooted One X that on close up objects the camera can not focus on the subject, this makes barcode scanner apps useless they simply do not work anymore,
Camera shots at normal distance focus properly
Any help?
I get the same problem. The camera gets a sharp picture, then refocuses, gets a sharp pic.. refocuses!
It never sets itself & stays on the sharp picture.. always trys again!
Very frustrating.

This seems to do something it certainly makes it better , still nit great though
@Op,
This is actualy normal.
Every lens has a minimal distance it still can autofocus.

Not true all my other phones focus much better than this . When I first git phone it worked .even my friends cheap huwaei focuses better on near objects . Something is broken
Not true?
I do have some experience with photography, like I said every lens has a minimal distance for autofocus.
You can read that in every manual of a new lens.
It's called 'min. focus distance'

Sorry i replied on my ohone and autospell failed! The phone USE to focus on the barcodes perfectly fone but now it does not!
My other phones can focus on these barcodes fine but now my ONE X does not
I have noticed, that HOX is almost never focusing on close object (even 20cm from the lens) if there is a distant background. Touch to focus or macro mode doesn't help. Try to make macro shot of the flower while the window view will be your background.

But the barcode apps dont offer the possibility for digital zoom
focus problem
I have the same problem, i used to have a sensation XE just prior to my One X and the short distance focusing was about 7 - 8 cm or even less sometimes. the one x is nowhere near this distance and overall quality (as opposed as to what was advertised) is not extraordinary
i made a topic about this months ago but everyone's against it.
The HOX have much longer min focus distance, i'm disappointed because this has a f2.0 lens but it cant focus as near as my XL with f2.2 lens so the bokeh in macro shot is much much smaller even when compare to the XE f2.8, and alot of image compression which degrade the quality ALOT.
It's not broken, it's just designed that way
Try Camera 360 app. Its free and comes with lots of filters. One thing it does better than stock camera is focusing better on closer objects like the OP mentioned.
Hi, anyone found a solution? Still I can't use barcode scanner (was perfect before android 4.2.2 update I think)...

Takes quite good photos, though pretty much all current phones are the same. Most of them use the same chips, the biggest differences are in the software.
I'm a bit disappointed with the cam... in bright daylight everything is OK, but with low light there is a LOT of image noise.
You won't find a better camera, x01a4, unless you buy a Symbian phone. But you don't want that, do you?

Hi, manually set the "ISO" to 100 that should help with the "noise"
taking the back cover off also gives me a huge improvement whit the sharpness and quality of the photo.

I have the opposite; mine will only take good macro shots and everything else is very blurred. I don't use the camera any more, it's that bad.
Waiting to hear back from HTC...
I find my Desire's camera is shockingly awful.. all pics are dull. It really bothers me a lot since I used to have a c905 and the camera is excellent, no need for a separate camera. The reason I have a modern phone is so I dont have a need for any separate devices but this is something that is really bothering me about the Desire to the point that I might sell it and get a c905 or a Satio.
I'll miss android too much tho
If you want really great pictures go get a compact camera or DSLR it is after all a phone with a camera not a camera with a phone. Hee hee hee.... having said that a lot of phones on the market have cameras which take so so pictures only, not many phones are able to take nice pictures. This is mostly due to the software of the camera not so much the hardware part.
How would you rate the camera of DHD? Lets say 10 is TOO DAMN GOOD and 1 is VERY BAD.
and how about it if you compare it with Dell streaks camera?
Not good at all. Anything at night will be blurd. Even standing still allowing the camera to fully focus gets you a blurred photo. May have 8mpg but the lens is rubbish therefore you will never have that good of a photo. Video is ok all in all as its 720p.
Camera : 3/10
Video : 8/10
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
what about the shots in day light? are they good? i don't take much shots at night but in day and some indoors, so how about them?
Daylight shots are, in my view, superb. Low-light shots are pretty bad, as the other guy said earlier. That's true of all camera phones I've owned though...
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I use the camera not very often. The quality and easy to use are not very good
Camera: 2/10 (My HD2 take better pictures for sure)
Video: 5/10
I allready send back two DHD for replace.
(with blur problems).
HTC really disappoint me...
Now i will whating for the Galaxy S2 release.
Camera: 6/10
Video (daylight): 9/10
Video (low light): 4/10
The quality highly depends on how much light is available, I've taken some awesome camera shots and some which were really poor. If your buying the phone only for 8mpx camera, don't bother. It's not all about the pixels.

completely agree +1
For me the camera is not that good considering 8mp
I see areas of quality in certain parts of the shot with the rest appearing blurred, and yes the lens has been cleaned with the correct type cloth.
My first pictures made me think about the issue of round lens, square picture, the edges all looked blurred and only the centre was focused.
I have read that altering the default settings from auto make a difference, but not for me, it is only used as an emergency camera.
Video is OK, even 720p, but again, not a perfect device.
But when you remember this is primarily a phone saves having multiple devices
I think is great. There is a guide somewhere here you can use for better results

So has anyone of you compared the pics with those of a streak? It is my 2nd choice after DHD and since DHD's camera is not that good i am cosidering Dell Streak, so anyone who has compared them?
Anyone have some input on the best WP7 phone to get if I want to use it to replace my Kodak digital camera? The camera on the HD7 kind of sucks.
Don't go with the LG Quantum either. In bright daylight it's sort of ok, but as soon as you need flash, it's like taking a picture on a RAZR from 2007. Awful.
-edit-
I think the HTC Mozart is the only wp with an 8mp camera. Probably the best?
I would say pretty much all of them are the same; the only phone that has more mp is the HTC Mozart (8mp). Idk if that might make a difference though as mp doesn't necessarily define the whole aspect of good pictures. I hear the focus is nice for taking pictures (in terms of clarity and color balance) as well. It also has the SAMOLED screen, which means the pictures show up more vibrant on your phone
I'm interested in hearing what other people say
Don't know about the Focus, but the Samsung Omnia 7 is definitely the best one available in Europe. I would rank them Samsung, LG, HTC - with the Mozart's 8MP not really being any better than the other HTC phones.
I've been extremely satisfied with the photo quality on my Focus.
its worth pointing out that higher MP does not equal better quality.
Most 5MP cameras will be fine in teh correct lighting conditions, low light is the biggest issue, the reason for this is down to optics and CCD size.
If you had a 12MP camera with a lense the size of the HD2/7 the pictures will be crap in low light as well, to be perfectly honest unless you get a phone with a big arse lense and 5+MP you wont get good "poor" light photos
I find the HD2/7 camera is grand in good lighting, had some cracking shots, mess with the lighting a bit and i pull out my slim line 12MP camera with its 32mm lense
yeah, don't replace your camera.
Just buy a second hand canon Ixus series (60 - 95) for less than £70 on ebay and you won't ever be disappointed! They are ultracompact but the picture quality has always been so good!
I don't really understand people who try to replace their camera with their mobile phone.. the mobile phone will take mediocre shots but i guess you have it with you all the time.
BUt even a cheapo crappy dedicated camera with LOWER MP will shoot better pictures than a 5MP-10MP phone.
Get one of the ultracompacts whcih are actually smaller than a lot of the new smartphones anyway!
I don't think I've used my Omnia 7 camera except for when taking lecture notes on Onenote!
Otherwise I stick to using my Canon 550D and Ixus 95

You just answered yourself - it's because you've always got your phone with you. The less gadgets you have to carry the better.
I tend to use my Omnia7 for photos several times a day. Quick snaps of just about anything. The fact they're snaps doesn't mean I'll be happy with ****ty quality though, you never know, you might get lucky enough to catch that one moment and decide you want it printed.
Now, if I'm out specifically for taking photos I'll obviously use my Nikon DSLR, but for everyday use I want a phone that gives at least half decent results.
The fact is that all WP7 cameras could be better. Especially the HTC ones.

Yeah agreed it is slightly more convenient..
But I personally don't like swapping quality for slight convenience
I still use my Cowon for music (better sound quality than phone) and carry my ultra compact when out with friends and my DSLR when I want to take decent photos!
I also find that the lens of the phone camera is always grubby resulting in slightly soft photos!
BUt coming back to the topic..I think the OMnia 7 takes fairly decent photos compared to other phones although I don't know how it compares to other WP7
Engadget reckons the Focus has an "impressive camera" and the Omnia 7 has a "good camera" while the others either aren't mentioned in the scorecard or specifically mention "subpar camera"
They've actually posted all the photos so you should have a look yourself.

I'm having real problems with the focus camera. I can't seem to get a steady shot. Maybe it's because of the hardware button, and I'm slightly moving the camera when I take it. I hope that's it, because it usually takes me 5 or 6 shots to get a decent one...

Have you tried holding the camera button down half-way to let it focus before taking the pic? Also, there is an anti-shake setting on Focuses (and other Samsungs, I presume), but unfortunately the setting doesn't save.
yes i use the auto-focus feature, i've tried the anti-shake setting, i've tried lowering the resolution, pretty much everything...i can get a decent shot about 1 out of 5
Considering it is a 2017 device, can we expect the camera quality to be at par with the new fad of "dual" lens? I don't mean the effects...I mean the resolution and clarity.

I wasn't very pleased with the camera. The quality is just fine but more megapixels doesn't always mean a better picture. Low light always seems to render images or videos with a red or orange hue. Any zooming and the pictures get way too noisey. In the right light I've taken some great shots. Another thing to look out for is movement and facial tracking. If your subject isn't perfectly still, having facial tracking for focus seriously hinders the shutter speed so I find it best to turn it off when taking pictures of parties and kids and things that are moving.

The speed of the phone has nothing to do with the image quality of the camera....
Like jaybles, I also struggle with the camera quality and are having the same red, purple noisy tint in very Low Light in Manual Mode, but also it can be a struggle to take steady shots in Manual Mode in daylight.. However, thanks to the Newer updated imaging algorithm found in the XZ1 and XZP which from what Ive read, SONY have used in the XA1U... it functions really great in Auto Mode, so SONY phones can now be used as great Point and Shoots.. and we no longer have to struggle anymore with ISO, WB and Metreing.
Ive found that by setting the camera to 12MPX in Manual Mode... gives great shots... 20 and 23MPx modes give camera shake and poor image quality in Manual Mode..
I've been using the A70 for about a week. I interacted with some A70 owners and they said that the phone had 8MP main camera and not the 32MP main camera. I gave a try to some hardware info apps and all showed 8MP camera at the back and 5.2MP camera on the front. What's wrong here? The phone is showing wrong info or it just has an 8MP camera. Can everyone confirm this?
I have also made a video on it. I'm just trying to get an answer from all the Galaxy A70 owners about their experience with this phone.

No, it really is a 32mp camera module. Samsung, for whatever reason, have crammed the 32mp option in a submenu inside the camera app. Tap on the format button and choose 3:4H. Now you'll be able to use the full resolution of the camera.
Just be aware that - I don't know why - HDR does not work in 32mp mode.
All I can say is that pictures taken in low light conditions are amongst the worst I have seen. Absolutely terrible picture quality worthy of a 100$ budget phone not a premium 400$ phone.
Even my 3 years old A9 Pro 2016 has better low light capability.

I second that. I don't know why Samsung had to cripple their camera module this hard via software. Using Gcam though, the camera does produce great results in low light!
Irrespective of MP number, picture quality isn't great for sub $400 phone. Can they fix with software update? or need to change phone?

I actually wrote a post about this, didn´t see yours, was too eager to write my first post here I guess. The camera uses a new Samsung technology which only works if you choose 4:3H aspect ratio, there is no way to choose file size for each respective ratio. The pictures are hardware 4 x 8MP rendered and since the technology is new all third party camera and HW info apps only view the 8 MP .. not the x4 tetracell technology which works and is implemented in an abysmal manner.

Hi,
I used this version of Gcam:
S10_1_MGC_6.1.021_BSG_Arnova_TlnNeun_V1.3.030119.0 645.apk
You can find it on Androidfilehost, for example. Works like a charm on my A70. Lots of settings are actually possible - just don't try to 'force 4K on front camera' mode - it'll make the app crash all the time. Other than that, Gcam really is way better than the stock camera app and HDR+ works really really good, too. Only downside - pics are limited to 8MP at the moment, but when using RAW, it's not a big deal at all.

Hi,
I must say that, whatever the causes, the pictures taken by this device are simply horrible.
I am not one of those so called photographers that is looking for the absolute colour reproduction and the sharpness of 10X real life.
I just want to have some pictures for moments I want to remember.
But even for that, this device doesn't do the job
All pictures are blurry, out of focus...
I can't even set the picture quality in the settings of the camera app.
I just can set the aspect ratio (in the Photo part) and the video resolution in the settings.
But no way to set the number of pixels I want for the pictures.
That is another dark side of this device that looked so promising on paper but doesn't deliver at all.
So goes Samsung... and device will be sent back to Amazon.

Agreed, this phones's cameras suck.
You can choose high resolution mode (32mp) by tapping on the small 3:4 button then choosing 3:4H (H stands for high quality or high resolution).
There is an update rolling in India right now which promises to improve camera quality.

SAMSUNG A70 CAMERA Poor Quality images and videos
I just bought Samsung a70, and the camera gives very poor images for 738 kb sizes only. I bought that mobile from samsung site, how to return the mobile. any help.
i am more than disappointed with the main camera...it is below any standards for modern phones...even my no name chinese phone couple of years old is making better photos....it is a shame for samsung to produce such half hearted pathetic camera...photos are smudgy, soft, and lack sharpness...auto focus is sluggish and in most cases you don't know is it even work...my old phone has clear green square signs all over screen which shows if photo is in focus or not, here you don't know what is going on...samsung is trying to impress all of us with 32mp number, but it is pathetic as well...i have tried some of the gcam camera and results are clearly better....so, it is obvious samsung is treating customers badly and sell them inferior camera not only to direct competition regarding price, but camera which is even worse than cameras in 50 dollars no name chinese phones...to say i am feeling cheated is understatement...
to be honest, live focus/blur/portrait mode is doing very good job?? how come? it looks like samsung is artificially made camera bad and not even try to make things better through software changes...

Samsung A70 32MP camera (top camera) is not working
All cameras the 8MP, 5MP and the front camera are working. Im sure they are working because I tried blocking each one depending on settings. But I cant seem to find the settings on how will the top camera will work. I tried the 3:4H ratio already but its the middle camera that is being utilized. For the wide angle, it is the bottom back camera. How can I utilize the top camera at the back?

well, top camera's job is depth. You can use it with live focus.
32MP one is in the middle of them. It's the main camera.
And bottom camera is wide angle as you knew.

this phone a70 is a total lie.
it has a 8 magapixel awful camera.
it is absolutely not 32 megapixel by hardware. maybe it is 32 megapixel by software.
photos have no details, overprocessed, photos are washed out. like a watercolor paint. there are no textures. all textures are washed out.
