after i did the ics upgrade i tried to root so i can remove the bloatware since it was killing the battery life... now i get an error message saying that the com.android.phone has stopped. i tried updating through klies again and i still get the same error. i also tried to reflash using odine and that didnt help...what do i do now? the phone keeps freezing even though android ics does start and isnt bricked
Get into download mode and use Kies to reset your phone's firmware. There should be an option from the menus that asks for your serial #, behind your battery and model #.

if you get any error message unplug your phone enter into recovery mode and select factory reset.

That won't do anything if he deleted something that com.android.phone relies on.

as long as you can get into recovery (battery pull then 3 finger),you can flash a rom and youre good.
i wanted to go back to stock,so i did the other crap i posted before.

ICS Root
You definately need SU 3.0.7 to root ICS.

so i odined the stock kernel onto my et4g and everything went fine until it rebooted my launcher is nonexistent the home menu and search buttons dont work when the phone first started up it said set up wizard force closed so anyone know what i should do at this point im currently dl the cwm recovery back up.
just tried to boot into odin mode and it said E:Update logfile dose not exist
From what I understand, unless you've wiped out your radios you should be okay. I had a similar thing happen to me, and corrected it in this manner.
You'll need a CWM recovery tar (I use Chris41g's LoStKernel)
An SD card
A flashable ROM (I use AbsolutZeroGI's EG30-Stock-OdexV2.zip)
Put the ROM on the SD card, with the phone unplugged pull the battery, replace and boot into Odin mode (volume down and power, then volume up at first screen).
Open Odin, select PDA then the tar file, make sure auto reboot is checked and run it.
Once the phone reboots pull the battery and go into recovery (volume up and power) wipe everything then flash the ROM. When it reboots you should be ok.
Conversely, you could look for crawrj's stock Odin Rom with recovery, busy box, and SU, (which you would also run from PDA), but the steps above are what I used.
i cant boot into odin mode :/
Oh, sorry about that, do you know anyone with a USB jig, I don't know for sure, but that may help determine if it is a hardware problem?
No i dont im gonna order one. Well i have it kind of working. I figured out how to get my emails and got the amazon app store and installed a launcher

I flashed root kernel in Odin under "Phone" option effectively erasing the radio...Like an idiot! Does anyone know where to find the stock Radio/Modem flashable through Odin?
Strange thing happened to my phone yesterday night. I was watching netflix for a while and after some time the screen just went blank. I am not able to restart the phone. It got struck in the kernel bootup(Darkside kernel, TDJ's darkside rom) and it was restarting again and again till i remove the battery.
I am able to get into recovery mode but not able to restore any of my backup's. It just went blank during restoring system. I tried installing the same ROM(Darkside Digitsl warfare v2.5.1) from my internal SD card but it just went blank after some time. I tried the juggernaut-5 . It didnt throw up any error but when i restart it its again displaying the darkside kernel and boot looping.
Any one can you please help me to get out of this mess. I need to travel on Monday so desperately need my phone fixed before that. Please help. I have not installed anything new over the last 1 month and didnt have any problems till now. Thank you
System Details:
ROM: Darkside Digitsl warfare v2.5.1
ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.7
Flash super wipe kernel cleaner then reflash the ROM then go back if you made a nandroid backup restore the data and system

Try it again. The phone has to be in download mode before you plug it into the computer. And are you flashing it as PDA? People have reported it taking a couple tries.
Usually if you can get into download mode you can fix it. If you're stuck and your computer won't recognize your phone, try getting back into download mode. If you're sending it in for repair anyways, it's better to have a full brick so they can't see that you rooted.
Another option if you can't get into download mode, buy a USB Jig, they are usually less than $10 and they can sometimes get you back into download mode.

What screen are you talking about? The download screen?
If you're seriously wanting to give up trying, and want to brick it, try flashing a stock rom from a different phone via Odin.

So Am i good for an warranty exchange? or will samsung would be able to know i installed custom roms. In the ODIN mode it still shows custom binary mode as NO.
The strange thing is i didnt do anything on my phone for last 1 month. The only thing i could think off is, one of scheduled titanium backup ran at 3.00 AM when i was in netflix with the phone charging, and i got a msg that the backup failed. When i woke up it started boot looping. And during the ODIN i tried today, I was making sure i am doing right by following the guidelines(ODIN back to stock).
I have all my nandroid backups(different rom versions) & titanium backups, will i be able to use it in my new phone after rooting with the same recovery version?
Thank you. I really appreciat all your help.

Are you running Odin as administrator?
Manually download the device drivers from the how to root thread and install them on your computer. right click on Odin and run as administrator. Open the stock rom file in the PDA field and run it.. There is no reason it shouldn't work if you can get into download mode.
Try downloading the stock rom again, maybe it's a bad download.

Hey OP, looks like you were on cna before. What and how did you try to flash?
I have a another s2phone which I use to test roms before I put them on my regular phone. Odin doesn't recognize my phone.
Hello. Well, my Note II froze, so I removed the battery and put it back again, but the phone doesn't boot up anymore; it's stuck at the "GT-N7100 screen". It's rooted, running the stock ROM. I want to take a backup of my phone, but I can't seem to do it. I tried the backup option in recovery, but it's acting weird; the phone reboots 2 seconds after I choose to backup. I ran the adb backup command on my computer, but it gives me the "unable to open file backup.ab" error. For the time being, I managed to pull /data/app and /data/data. Is this enough to restore back my applications and their data if I decide to flash a custom ROM now?
I wanted to see what's happening at boot, so I tried adb logcat -v long > log.txt when the phone is booting, however, it just says -waiting for devices-.
Mine froze half an hour back and when I rebooted it is stuck on the samsung note 2 screen. The same thing happened with my colleague's galaxy s3 as well, but that happened last night. It is really weird all phones dying for no reason. I just opened an app (Ingress) and the phone stopped working. Mine is rooted, but on official ROM. My colleagues' is just stock rom, not rooted.

Also, I am not able to boot into recovery mode by pressing vol up+home+power. I can only go into download mode thro vol down+home+power. Is it a bigger issue with a batch of devices? how can this happen when I didn't even try to do anything with my open apart from opening a app.
It's not SDS is it? You have checked your chipset version before haven't you?
So whats that about then? I'm Rooted but on stock ROM
Mines gone too today.
I'm at a loss as to how to recover things. Phone will only go into ODIN mode and not recovery.
Very strange
Same thing has happened to me twice. It wouldn't go into recovery mode but I kept trying and after half a dozen goes it somehow did.

I flashed a rom (yes it was for the proper device) and I followed everything step by step. My phone went into a bootloop where it vibrates and the samsung logo pops up then it turns off and starts over again. I turned off the phone and tried to go into recovery mode but it just shows the TWRP screen and then go into the bootloop again. I also tried going into download mode to odin back to stock but my device isn't even recognized even after installing kies. what can i do???

What rom did you start with?
Did you recently flash anything else?
What steps did you follow when you flashed?

Reinstall the drivers for this device, a simple google can give you following information:
This is a Windows device driver error. As device drivers can be used anytime your computer is trying to use a hardware resource, it can be difficult to tell which process is causing the error. If you notice the error when trying to do a specific task, identifying the source of the problem may be easier. For detail, see error.info/windows/driver-18.html
