Completely disable volume rocker buttons? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Searched for an answer for this but didn't find anything conclusive.... long story short my volume rocker buttons no longer work correctly. I'm trying to re-lock and flash back to stock to bring it in for warranty but having huge issues with fastboot drivers (whole other issue).
In the meantime, is there any way to disable the volume up and down buttons completely while in Android? My buttons randomly think that they are being pressed, which constantly screws with the volume and keeps the phone awake.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Help - Volume up button brings me to home screen!!

Hi,
I have a AT&T Tilt2 on which suddenly the volume rocker up button stop working as volume button and then brings me to the home screen from within any app!! I am unable to figure out why this would happen - its a stock AT&T ROM with some apps that I installed like - OperaBeta, HDWallS, Resco.
Even when I hold down the call drop button for sometime, the device does not lock! It vibrates but does nothing - just shows me the home screen.
Any idea on why this would happen ? has anyone seen this happen to their cell too ?
Thanks
Dhanvi
My volume buttons occasionally acts up too. They suddenly act as up and down keys rather than volume up and down keys. Very rarely though. A soft reset makes it go away each time.
...guess it was having an identity crisis...
I've been having problems with my volume buttons. And soft reseting doesn't solve the problem. The volume buttons work in the lock screen. But when i'm at the home screen they just open and close the volume screen.
I have a tilt 2 with the stock rom.

[Q] Screwed? Volume rocker not working to get to the bootloader

Strange things happen on a Saturday morning. I found my volume go up randomly without me pressing the rocker and my volume down button was not working. For some reason, I thought this might be a software issue and went ahead to flash a new Energy Rom....but here's where it gets twisted:
Task 29'ed the device...and now, the phone is stuck at the splash screen and I can't get to the bootloader cuz apparently, the volume down button is actually not working. One solution is obviously to check for hardware issues...but I won't be able to do it for a couple of days. I was wondering if there might be a beacon of hope to somehow enter the bootloader without using the volume rocker.

Volume button stuck pressing down, help

The problem is basically the down volume button broke so I replaced the entire volume piece, but I have the problem where the down button is constantly being pressed even when no actual physical button is present, so my phone is constantly lowering its volume when I am on the phone etc.
Is there any way to fix this?
If not is there any way for me to completely destroy the audio button to at least stop it adjusting itself!
If you replace that part did you place that volume plastic button right way. If it wrong way it may push switch down all time. Or maybe hardware failure in switch?
Or replace another one. Maybe that plastic vol button is pressing the switch all time. Try take off that plastic vol button part and then what happend? You can press buttons by your nails or something.
Yeh the problem is though even with no button it still keeps lowering the volume as if the button is being pressed so I don't know what the problem is, I'd gladly disable all volume control instead if thats possible.
if its the mainboard thats faulty that's an expensive part to replace :\

[Q] Stuck at hboot - volume down button busted?

My htc desire is just over 2 years old. Out of warranty. Have not rooted or done anything else, just running the standard software.
A couple of months ago it got damp inside the pocket of my jacket. After turning it on it went to the hboot screen (the one where I can choose the options Fastboot, recovery, clear storage, simlock.) I dried the phone out and tried turning it on again.
Since then, whenever I have turned on my phone, it has had about a 50% chance of going to the hboot screen. Sometimes this screen would be unresponsive (ie. pressing the volume up/down buttons didn't do anything.) Sometimes I would be able to use the buttons to navigate around.
With a varied amount of removing the battery and mashing on the volume up/down buttons and power button when starting up the phone I could get it to start up. I think my success was related to half holding down volume up, so as to release the volume down button, and press power at the same time, but I'm not sure. This would sometimes happen after a couple of tries, but sometimes would take much longer, maybe half an hour of mashing.
Occasionally when running the phone would turn the volume all the way down to mute (as though the volume down button was being held, although I wasn't pressing anything.) Sometimes it would crash.
I took this to mean that my volume down button was busted, but things worked "ok" most of the time.
Today my phone will not respond to any amount of mushing the volume keys. I leapt into the deep end and disassembled my phone. I've pulled apart the volume button, removed the sticky black plastic that covers the circuitry of the button, removed the two small circular metal bits, removed the metal bar that is about 3cm long (1.5 in) and now the volume button is reduced to just a little bit plastic with copper bits printed on both sides.
I had hoped that this would be enough to completely disable my volume buttons and all would be well. Unfortunately... when I start the phone I am still at an unresponsive hboot screen
Does anyone have any advice that could help me? I could get the scissors out and start cutting stuff off but that seems like it would be unlikely to work...
Thanks in advance.
Wait...so you disabled the volume buttons, and you expect hboot to be responsive?
They were the only way to navigate through hboot.
What do you mean by "unresponsive"? Does the power button do something when pressing it?

Regularly, to get to hboot you hold volume down and the power button. My volume down button was permanently held down (I think,) so I hoped that by removing the volume buttons it would start normally.
By unresponsive I mean it goes to hboot but pressing the power button does nothing when I am there (ie. it doesn't select the highlighted option (fastboot))

[Q] Root HTC desire HD without volume key

I have searched everywhere for this and cannot find an answer so I'm sorry in advance if I have missed it somewhere. I am just bought a htc desire hd off a friend with the intention of rooting it but didn't realise the volume keys were broken. I have tried to reboot it into recovery via ADB but it gets stuck on the screen with the phone and a red exclamation mark in a triangle. I have read on other posts that this happens when you go into recovery and you press power and volume up.
Obviously I cannot use volume up so is there anyway to get around this or to avoid the screen in the first place? Or is there another way to root I'm missing where I don't need the volume keys? Even if I get into recovery mode I cannot change the options without the volume buttons.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

I would strongly, strongly advise getting your volume keys replaced and/or fixed before attempting to root. You can get very very stuck trying to root without working volume keys.
I actually had this problem. Wanted to use aahk and I couldn't downgrade ruu because my volume up button doesn't work. I ended up pulling off the volume rocker. Then I used a screwdriver to press the button and it luckily worked. If you can do that, that could be something you could do. But be very careful when removing the rocker or you could break it. Mine broke. But I have a otter box so its all good. Also, if you're going to get a recovery, I highly recommend getting a touch recovery like twrp or 4 ext so you don't have to use the volume buttons in recovery.
Thanks for the replied. Only paid £20 for it so not massively bothered it I break it. I've tried to do that with the volume but I don't think it's the rocker thats broken I think it's the part inside and wouldn't know how to replace it! Just thought there may be some way to get around using volume keys altogether haha
Anyone got any other ideas?

check ebay and buy a replacement volume key. They are very cheap and there are videos on youtube describing how to remove and replace it.

It's not actually the key, I've pulled the inside volume chip out (the bit behind the button which gets pressed) and pressed them and it still doesn't change the volume so I think it must be some sort of problem with the chip or the wires. I don't really know what that's called to search for on ebay haha
I am in pretty much the exact same Sh*t at the moment. However I have something even more problematic, I lost the volume rocker ages ago and I am still trying to work out whether the button itself is dead or if I am simply pressing this volume chip incorrectly. :/

If you use the end of a paperclip and try and press where the rocker was you should feel a little click as you press it in meaning it should still work. I do this with one of my Desire HD's.
Thanks for the responce (Umm)

Umm I have tried many things so far and I also find that the volume up button is not pressing. I am not sure if it is pressed in or what but the volume down button does press down (clicks when you push it) but the phone never seems to register it as a button press :/
