I'm leaving the US for SE Asia next month and am addicted to my E4GT and GTab 10.1. I purchased a RavPower 5600mAh power bank and have a few spare batteries, but that is all I have for now - no adapters of any kind and I'm having a hard time finding the answers.
Can someone help me out with what I need to have in order to be able to charge my devices in SE Asia? Thx
What country are you visiting, and will you be staying in a hotel? Most hotels in Asia frequented by Westerners are fully equipped for you to plug in your stuff. If you need any electronics accessories you are in the right place to buy them.
I'll be flying into Bangkok, spending a day or two there, and then head to the Philippines. And we may also spend some time in Indonesia.
For hotel accommodations, it will be a mixture of hotels and some hostels - so likely a mixture of Western accommodations and not.
I'd rather spend a bit of cash on an accessory I may or may not need than get there and be SOL.
Indonesia seems like the only one where the two-pronged (like US charger) might not work - a quick google search shows the two pronged circular should do the trick.
OTOH if you're in a Western hotel or anywhere with USB access just plug it into a USB port and let it charge that way! (Skip the AC part if you can)
So assuming I have the correct plug/pin adapter, the voltage differences in these countries won't hurt my devices if I have to charge them from an AC socket?
Take a look at the plug that you're going to use and see if the rating is on there (should be somewhere). As long as 220 is in the range - which I believe it should be - you're good. If not you can either go the USB route or get a charger rated that high.
And for reference I've taken a standard plug (Sanyo) MicroUSB charger to Spain and Japan with no problems - but checked the rating like I mentioned above before doing so. Then all I needed was the converter for Spain.

Hey guys i am from India. I'm going on a trip to UK & Europe for a few days. So i wanted to ask whether my phone charging adapter for the G3 from India will work properly in all countries there. Is there any concern over the different voltage rating over in India (220V) and the other countries. Would i need a voltage converting adapter of any sort or will just a simple adapter for changing the socket without any voltage converting features do?
Europe has the same voltage and frequency as india, so thats not a problem. If your charger has this plug you dont have to worry, I'm pretty sure its used in most, if not all countries in europe (along with some other plugs in some places), except the UK. The UK uses this plug. Since they also use the same voltage and frequencies you would just need a socket adapter, not a converter.
There might be other countries that dont use the first type of sockets, so check here.
I'd also advise bringing your usb cabel while travelling, there can be some rare ,but important, opportunities for using it to charge.
Btw. I didn't check my charger, but it is possible that it also accepts different voltages, which would mean that in other countries (you wont need it now, but if you travel again) like the americas you would just need a socket adapter, not a (voltage) transformer. Most/all laptop chargers accept different voltages.
thanks a lot for the info
thanks for the info really usefull.:good:
I've managed to slide the 3 point UK plug off without any problems but can someone please tell me how to swap the British connection for the European 2 point plug connection please??
Hi,
That is clearly the wrong plug adapter. It looks like just a standard travel adapter that you plug the UK plug into or something (making the charger stick further out from the wall)? If anyone does know where to get proper interchangable adapters please let us know - I have the same problem with having a euro plug (which looks the same as your top one but with the bottom one's prongs) and wanting an NZ/Australia one. You can buy a travel adapter set from HTC that includes all of the plugs, but it also includes another charger and is rather expensive (http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/uk/p_htc_item.aspx?i=196228&phone=196001). It's actually cheaper to just buy one of their new style ones it seems (http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/uk/p_htc_item.aspx?i=201954&phone=196001).
Alternatively you could buy a 3rd party microUSB charger - just make sure the charger is rated for 1A or it will charge slowly.
edit: Looking carefully it looks like you might have the adapter plug for the new style charger rather than the old style charger - the plug on the picture looks rather similar
Sorry I can't be more help,
Regards,
Anthony
Ahh I see. I think I'll just stick with the 3 point plug and get another travel adapter.
Can't believe Orange have sent me the wrong kit.
Anyway thank you so much for taking the time to post. Appreciate it.
Hi guys!
Last week I was shopping around at a local electronics retailer when I noticed a car charger made by TomTom for a decent price (I paid ~18 Euros).
It has two USB ports, one of whom is rated at 2.1A and the other at 1A. It also has a 12V car pass-through jack, so you can plug in another 12V device.
I saw it available at Amazon.de and .co.uk:
UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/TomTom-Univ...tphones/dp/tech-data/B004SH3ERC/ref=de_a_smtd
£10.89
DE: http://www.amazon.de/TomTom-High-Sp...3ERC/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1327522692&sr=8-4
€18.35

Being a frugal shopper I've tried to scrimp on car chargers and leads and adapters for my ZTE Blade and more recently my Note and I've also spent time and effort ripping them apart to solder pins to try to encourage fast charging of my Note. While they can all charge a sleeping phone perfectly well, not one combination of bits and pieces has succeeded in keeping my Note charged while using CoPilot sat nav.
So finally I bit the bullet and bought the proper Samsung 1 Amp charger from Amazon. It was £10 with free delivery and has proved an instant hit, successfully topping up the charge in the phone while running the sat nav app. Why oh why did I not buy it sooner. It would have saved money and grief.

(It's now even cheaper than when I bought it, costing just £9.80 today.)
p.s. the supplied coiled lead is quite short when tightly coiled, which can be a good thing if it doesn't need to go far, but if you have a long distance to cover it might be a problem. I haven't tried stretching it to see how far it might go as I'm happy with it as is and don't want it to go all loose and floppy.
Here is a great two output usb car charger, one of which supports high output current.. less that $10

Read the third review of that charger, by K Crawford. You may wish to reconsider.
As I stated in my previous post I have bought a couple of different "high current" car chargers and neither one will charge the Note quickly enough to maintain or increase charge while running satnav. It's all to do with the black arts involved in triggering the phone to draw the current that is potentially available. I've tried tweaking the chargers themselves (shorting the two centre pins) and also tried using the Note's supplied USB lead with them, but to no avail. A high current charger is no use if the phone refuses to draw current above the "safe" 500mA USB standard. That's the problem with many of these third party chargers, be they mains or car. I've spent more money in total on "cheap" solutions than it would have cost to buy the original item in the first place.
This looks like one of them - http://www.dealextreme.com/p/car-cigarette-powered-dual-usb-adapter-charger-for-ipod-dc-12-24v-48029
And this looks similar to the other - http://www.dealextreme.com/p/designer-s-car-cigarette-powered-dual-usb-adapter-charger-72932
Maybe they were both simply too cheap, but whatever the reason they did not meet the needs. This is why I finally caved and bought the real deal, by Samsung, and now my car charging woes are over.

Hi
My phone needs almost a recharge everyday, but now on work I can recharge for free I think
Don't want to use the stock one, can I use a stock USB charger?
It needs to be build well, especially the cable and connector, because I will put it in my bag and not really care it very well
Also one thing: I don't want an extra usb cable, just a wall connector with cable and micro-usb port.
BTW: I live in Belgium
Suggestions please, and I dont want to pay a lot for it
EDIT: what about this: click!
Should it work on WFS? For this price, I would like to buy it (use google translate to understand)

Because of the standardisation of usb, any charger *should* work. You want a "Schuko" style plug right?
But you should make sure that it's 5v and between 500 -1000 mA. It should be anyway but it's safer to make sure
Sorry I can't link you to a product.
Edit: Found the sort of thing which you're looking for on dealextreme (http://www.dealextreme.com/p/mini-power-adapter-charger-with-dual-usb-ports-100-240v-eu-plug-48851) but that isn't really ideal since they're based in hongkong and it would take absolutely ages to get to you.
You'd be better off search for a "EU usb charger" on local shopping sites. Do you have anything like the Belgian equivalent of something like ebuyer.com?
Edit2: You didn't originally specify for a charger with an attached cable. Well anyway, you would want to find something like this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Mic...HJSK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330977286&sr=8-1) but with of course a socket appropriate for Belgium. Unfortunately since I don't live in Belgium, you're going to have to look for one yourself.
There should be plenty of choice on eBay.
I bought an OEM UK charger for around £4.
Hello,
I live in the UK, but my Nexus Wireless Charger (square one, not the Orb) was purchased in America. (a friend of mine sent me an early Christmas gift) The Nexus Wireless Charger power adapter is made up of two parts - the actual power brick, and the tiny plug insert that goes into the wall. Any of you guys know where I could possibly obtain the insert for UK wall socket so I do not have to carry around a separate plug converter? Also, since US uses tiny little prongs, the power brick keeps falling out of my converter when plugged in vertically... so I would much prefer to have the UK insert. I emailed Google, but unfortunately they do not sell the part (OR entire power adapters separately - I'm willing to buy an entire power adapter, just as long as I don't have to carry an extra converter) Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I doubt you'd find just the plug insert. Your best bet is to just buy a UK usb charger with a 2A output. Something like this:

The Wall charger should be able to accept [email protected] 50 and 60Hz. All you would need is a changer to change the plug type similar to this: http://www.amazon.com/Bright-3-Pron...id=1386882613&sr=8-4&keywords=uk+plug+adapter
Thank you guys. On an other thread I saw that Google ships this charger with the American plug regardless of where in the world it is sold..... So I guess more people will have this issue before long.
