Samsung Galaxy S II (Skyrocket) SoftKeys
For all of us who once had a SGS2 and wants to have the same navigation keys as on that phone, or at least try it out. I always liked the menu key on it the best.
These keys are built from a high-res pic I found of the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket, it has Menu, Home, Search, Recent and Back.
Landscape PNG's are included.
There's no "menu" key, only "MENU_BIG", usable in AOKP.
This is now a ZipTheme/MetaMorph file. If you want to extract the files and do a systemUI.apk update instead, it can be done via this file as well.
If you plan to use my softkey-set for a themerelease, please let me know and remember to mention me in the thread.
I know this is only softkeys, but even if you find a way to make profit of these, please don't.

Big thanks to atticus182 for helping me out with an easy way to do a ZipTheme.zip.
atticus182 said:
Installation Methods (Method 1 Recommended)
Straight from your Galaxy Nexus
1. Easiest Method
*** ZipThemer *** Does not work on AOKP build 19, please try MetaMorph instead!
Download and install ZipThemer from the Market
Download a Softkey Style using the ZipThemer link in the First Post, and open up ZipThemer on your phone
If this is the first time using ZipThemer, hit the (hidden) menu key -> Hit "Update Edify" -> Hit "Browse" (pick a file that you have flashed before on your phone, like your ROM or a theme) -> Hit "Configure" -> Then hit the 'back' softkey to return to the main screen.
Click the "+Theme" button, browse to the download folder and select the .zip you have just downloaded using the ZipThemer link in the First Post, probably /sdcard/download
Click the "Build It!" button, and when it prompts if you want to make an "undo-zip", click "Always"
You will now see the output screen with the Build Log, check if everything went alright, it will show that a zip file has been created on /sdcard/
Reboot your phone to Recovery after this and flash the .zip file that is created on /sdcard/
Done! If you experience problems or want to undo the action just flash the "undo-zip" that's also located on /sdcard/
*** MetaMorph *** Does not work on ARHD, please try one of the methods below instead!
Download and install MetaMorph from the Market, open it at least once so that the folder AndroidThemes will be created on /sdcard/
Download a Softkey Style using the MetaMorph link and move this .zip file to /sdcard/AndroidThemes using your favorite file explorer
Open MetaMorph, choose "Unzip/Extract new theme" and select the .zip file you downloaded. A popup screen will appear, meaning it has been extracted. Press the "Close" button.
Hit the "Apply all!" button and wait +/- 5 seconds (nothing will happen)
Reboot your phone immediately after this and you're done! Oh, and set a new wallpaper because it may be restored to default..
2. Advanced (Hard) Method - Edit the SystemUI.apk from your phone - thanks to bangdrum! Not working for everybody!
Download and install Root Explorer from the Market and make a Nandroid backup
Download the softkeymod you like
Open Root Explorer and navigate to /system/app/, find SystemUI.apk, long press, and select extract. Go to the folder sdcard/speedsoftware/extracted and make sure you have a folder that's called SystemUI
If the folder is there navigate to where you downloaded the chosen softkeymod (usually sdcard/download) and long press it. Select extract all. Go to sdcard/speedsoftware/extracted and there should be a folder with the name of the softkeymod.
Click on this folder, and also on the next. Hit the menu key and press 'Multi Select'. Highlight all the images included in the folder and select 'Move' at the bottom. Navigate back to the SystemUI folder, go to SystemUI/res/drawable-xhdpi and 'Paste' here. A command prompt should pop up asking to replace the current images. Select 'Yes For All'
Go back to the sdcard/speedsoftware/extracted folder, long press the SystemUI folder and select 'Create ZIP'
Rename the created SystemUI.zip to SystemUi.apk and move the SystemUI.apk to your /system/app folder. Change permissions of SystemUI.apk to rw-r--r--
Reboot your Galaxy Nexus (pull battery out and reboot, this is an essential step) and your softkeys will be modded!
Using your Computer
3. Manual Method - Images using Updater Script
Download THIS Updater Script
Extract the SystemUI.apk from your current ROM from /system/app
Open the SystemUI.apk with WinRAR and navigate to /res/drawable-xhdpi
Add the images you downloaded from this thread into this folder, it will overwrite the original icons
Open the downloaded updater script and drag your SystemUI.apk into the /system/app folder, replacing the current file which is just a placeholder
Flash using recovery, done!
4. Automatic Method - Images using Softkey Modder - thanks to mlbvsnba!
Download THIS Softkey Modder
Place the downloaded softkey images into the "PUT_IMAGES_HERE" folder
Connect your phone to your computer
Make sure USB debugging is enabled (located in Settings --> Developer options)
Run/Open "Create Flashable Zip.bat"
Answer yes ("y") to both transfer prompts (or transfer the zips yourself)
Flash the modded (or original) zip through CWM (a.k.a. Rom Manager) **Do NOT wipe anything!** and enjoy!

Until some1 comes by and creates it for me, no, sorry. I havn't looked into ZipThemer or MetaMorph since I like just working on the PC and flashing it through regular systemUI.apk updates. :/
Sorry, for now.
Ok I have got to know what icons those are in the first post.

Sorry, left one, you're on your own. It might be in a SkyRocket stock image file somewhere. It's just an image I took from google to compare. So good luck, finding it, mate. Sorry I can't help you more than that.
Regarding the right one, the one I'm using, I'll still link you to blackbearblanc . dk, since this is where I found it. I can't give you something that isn't mine, when the artist is around to be found in these forums. I'd like his efforts to be seen. So browse thru his dropbox.

regular zip has been replaced by ZipThemer ready file.
hmmmm...the zipthemer file didn't work for me.
this is my first ziptheme so maybe i did something wrong, but i followed the directions in the first post and it created the 2 files. everything seemed to work just fine, flashed it in recovery (using CWM touch based recovery, maybe that has something to do with it) but nothing changed.
anyone know if ninjamorph will work? i am VERY comfortable with that app. may take a little longer, but if i know it will work, i would use that every time.

Nah, I just tried it myself.. Reflashed the image of my theme, with the normal keys in them.. And then used thst file as the build as stated.. And build it with the keys in. Update and undo zips are just fine, the systemui.apk has all images, but it doesnt replace the keys for me, neither. I will investigate further.. - Are you using a theme, mate? I'm asking you because if you do, I have an easy work around for you. PM me an answer.
Woops, I checked out Ninjamorph. And yes, if you can make it work, it should be fine. Basically you just extract the 10 images from my zip, then in Ninjamorph, navigate to system/app/systemUI.apk/res/drawable-xhdpi and put the 10 images there. If you can do that, you're golden. I managed to open my systemUI.apk, but didn't know how to get to other things, once in there, lol. But if you know how to use the app, just put my 10 images into the drawable-xhdpi folder.

Hello my fellow S3 mates!
I’ve made this thread for one purpose: To have all, or almost all, information about bootanimations for stock Samsung ROMs in one thread.
I’m planning to make some bootanimations in the near future, both for ICS and JB. I haven’t made many lately though, because I’ve used almost all my spare time on the bootanimation for the Omega JB rom. I will make some animations now and then, and they will all be posted in this thread
This thread also contains my enable and disables cwm flashable zip-files, and a quick "How-To" guide for making them work.
And finally there are some things to notice before making your own bootanimations, which i of course also have written in this thread. So it’s easy for you to get started.
If you have any questions, need help, or just want to share your custom/homemade bootanimations, feel free to contact me. If it’s because you have a bootanimation to share, I prefer it sended to me as a pm, instead of posting in this thread, as I would like it as clean as possible. Then I can post it in the correct post in this thread, with credits of course. The bootanimation has to be made by you, otherwise it won’t be posted. If it’s made by another creator than you, and you just have modified it to work with S3, you have to get the permission from the original creator.
I’m thinking this would be ideal for a bootanimation collection thread, so it’s easy for other people to find animations, without the need to search through lots of different threads. But this can only be done with your help.
If you have found a bootanimation that you havent made and would like to share it, may i refer to the thread by pkoper here: [Bootanimations] The Bootanimation Repository
as my thread here is more technical based about the subject, and if you make your own, please contact me if you would like it posted in this thread.
If you have any suggestions to this thread, then feel free to pm me, thanks in advance.

As you probably noticed, there isn’t much here yet, but in time there will be (hopefully…)

How to install
1. If you haven’t already, you should check whether or not your phone is able to play custom bootanimations.
2. Download this bootanimation.zip, I’ve made only for testing, and place it in /data/local or /system/media folder. Or flash this with CWM: CWM_CustomBootanimation_Test.zip
3. Reboot, and if it’s still Samsung original booting sequence, it’s not enabled.
4. If you have a Samsung (touchwiz) based rom (stock), you can easily enable it with my cwm flashable zip, attached to this post.
5. Download both CWM_CustomBootanimation_Enable.zip and CWM_CustomBootanimation_Disable.zip, and place them at your internal sdcard. The reason I say you should get both, is because when trying out different animations, it can easily mess up the boot. If that happens it’s quite simple to just reboot into cwm, flash the disable zip, reboot, replace the animation with a working one, and reboot into cwm again and flash the enable zip. Should be easy for beginners.
**The test animation works for both ICS and JB**
Minimum requirements:
- CF-root with CWM
- Busybox
This has been reported working on:
[ICS]4.0.4 --> [JB]4.2.1 --> [JB]4.2.2 --> [JB]4.3
i9300, i9305, Sprint, Verizon and i747m devices.
Galaxy Note II - N7100
Galaxy Grand - i9082
And should in theory work on all other samsung android devices.
UPDATE:
made two new flashable zip files, that should work for 4.2.1.. it uses the AOSP "bootanimation"-file, that already has the "bootanimation.zip"-method implemented..
EDIT: it has been confirmed that this works for the 4.2.2 as well..
UPDATE2:
if anyone is having issues having the Anbech-folder on internal sdcard, and cant remove it, then try flash the "CWM_RemoveAnbechFolder.zip"-file from the attachments..
UPDATE3:
made 2 new flashzips:
Code:
CWM_CustomBootanimation_43_Enable.zip
CWM_CustomBootanimation_43_Disable.zip
they should work for any 4.3 sammy rom. make sure to get both files, as the disable-flashzip is handy if anything gets messed up
UPDATE4:
2 new flashzips:
Code:
CWM_CustomBootanimation_44_Enable.zip
CWM_CustomBootanimation_44_Disable.zip
let me know how they work out, as i cant test them myself
if just half of those who uses my work, would hit the thanks-button, i would be very happy
Making your own
This is what you need to know for making your own bootanimations.
The bootanimation.zip contains at least one folder, typically named "Part0", and a file named: "desc.txt".
There can be more folders, depends on how many parts there is. This is actually quite smart, as if you want the first part to be showed one time, the second part three times, and the last part untill the phone shows the UI. Then the bootanimation.zip would look something like this:
..
Part0
Part1
Part2
desc.txt
Click to collapse
and the desc.txt file like this:
720 1280 20
p 1 0 Part0
p 3 0 Part1
p 0 0 Part2
Click to collapse
The first digit - is how many times that part should be played (0 means infinite/forever)
The last digit - is the delay before the animation begins to play, in milliseconds
PartX - is the folder with the animation(Part0, Part1, Part2... PartX)
Click to collapse
That was just an example to explain it. you can be as creative as you like, only your imagination sets the limit.
Inside each PartX-folder is there an animation, showed as images, one image per frame.
Supported images, from what ive tried myself, is JPEG, JPG and PNG. BMP might work as well, but this would make the zip file large in size.
The framerate (fps) is set in the desc.txt file, right to the resolution setting:
720 1280 20
Click to collapse
An example of a desc.txt which is set to 20 fps.
I recommend not to set this to high, as the phone is quite loaded at the bootup process, so its a heavy process it to make a animation of images too. I usually set it somewhere between 20 and 25, that is by my own experience, the most smoothly rate.
When youve made your animation, you should keep in mind if it should be for ICS or JB, or both.
If its for ICS you should NOT make it looped, otherwise the phone will not show the UI after bootup. Looped animations can ONLY be used with JB.
The desc.txt file should be created/edited with notepad++ or something similar, as the regular notepad might mess with the structure.
To pack down the Part-folders and desc.txt file, its just by using winrar, 7zip or something similar. Just set it to save the files only, not compressing it.
I hope this will come someone handy, and if anyone has something that might be added, corrected, or even deleted, just let me know by a pm.
looking forward to them mate. omega rom bootanimation is cool so keep it up.
Thx mate..

they are metamorph/zipthemer (for JB) zips so please download the app and then open the zip and apply with metamorph!
please nandroid if you don't know 100% what you're doing or how to recover otherwise.
the other option is to pull your framework-res.apk in /system/framework/ to your computer and then if you get a bootloop you can always adb push it back.

Commonly asked Questions or reoccuring comments
- USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION.
- ALWAYS MAKE A NANDROID or have one on hand to fall back. I cannot stress this enough, especially if you are a newb and this is your first time flashing a theme / using metamorph
- alternatively, if you know what you're doing, just pull the framework-res.apk from /system/framework/ BEFORE you apply the theme and if you get a bootloop just push it back from recovery.
now.
HOW DO I INSTALL THIS???
- First, USE ZIPTHEMER
- download the file to /sdcard/Zipthemer
- go open Zipthemer
- BEFORE ADDING THEMES UPDATE EDIFY
-> hit menu
-> update edify
-> browse...
-> browse to your rom's zip and click on it
-> it will return to the previous menu and then hit configure
-> EDIFY IS NOW CONFIGURED
- then it +Theme and navigate to the folder with the ring
- then change the name of the output if you like
- then click "Build It" and then make a back up.
- reboot into recovery and flash
- reboot
- ?????
- PROFIT!
OMG THESE ARE AWESOME WHAT ROMS DOES IT WORK ON?
anything AOSP based, that being cm10.1, aokp, rasbean, etcetc.
it will NOT work with the sony roms, or sense roms, or touchwiz roms so dont blame me if you try doing it with those roms.
i'm on paranoid and thats based of CM10 so it'll work right?!
YES IS WORKS NOW THANK YOU MOLES.
Will this theme work on any other phone?
YES! It will work on any phone as long as it is XHDPI (Gnex, SGS3, One X), or HDPI (SGS2, Desire, MyTouch4g, etcetc) if you're not sure just google your screen resolution. sorry MDPI isn't supported!
ONLY the files on my site or the ones that i post are supported. anything posted by anyone else may not support both xhdpi and hdpi.
i totally borked my phone and its in a bootloop QQ what do i do?
if you're running the proper rom and you followed all the instructions properly then pull the battery and reboot. it is normal for a random reboot to happen when you first apply it. metamorph talks all about it in its warning to you.
I did what you said but it still bootlooping... the world is over.
either nandroid or restore your framework from recovery. and then try redownloading the zip and reapplying. sometimes people get bad downloads... so dont fret.
i have followed all the previous steps and my lockring isn't applying... YOUR LOCKRINGS ARE BROKEN!
probably not, as 99% of them have been tried and tested. make sure you don't have a theme applied, if you do, use zipthemer to apply the lockring isntead.
ZOMG i've tried everything you said and it still wont work...my life is over
stop lying. all the rings work provided you've followed the instructions. otherwise send me your framework-res.apk and i'll look at it.
can i have this lockring design?
well first you need to provide a picture, and then even then its stillup to me whether or not i'm going to make it.
can i haz a weed one?
simple answer, no. I don't endorse drugs that are illegal in my country (Canada). But if you want a benadryl one, then sure.
if weed was legal in my current place of living, then i would, but until then. ;P
ZOMG YOU ARE SO SLOW AT FULFILLING REQUESTS AND YOU SHOULD BOW DOWN TO ME AND DO AS I SAY!! I CANT WAIT FOR YOU TO HAVE A LIFE AND DO IT ON YOUR TIME, LET ME MAKE MY RINGS MYSELF!
i'm not responsible if you eff up your phone cause you dont know what you're doing. but here is a brief but pretty concise explanation of how to do it.
if you download any of my zips, and unzip it, you'll find a folder with files, and an .xml file.
if you want to change the pics of the lockrings
- unzip with winrar or 7z or whatever
- go to framework-res/res/drawable-hdpi (or xhdpi if youre on a gs3)
- change your lockring .png's. They can be anything, but just make sure they are 162x162 px for hdpi and 216x216 px for xhdpi
- ic_lockscreen_handle_normal.png is the lockring when it is not pressed
- ic_lockscreen_handle_pressed.png is when you put your finger to drag it to your designated target.
- MAKE SURE YOU RENAME YOUR EDITED PNG's TO EXACTLY WHAT IS ABOVE OR ELSE IT WONT WORK (unless you want to play with xml)
- once you have fixed up all your images go back to the root folder where you unzipped the original zipfile.
- then open the xml and change accordingly to what it says.. pretty straightfoward
- now this is important for it to work with meta! : you can rename the xml to (your name here).xml, but it is IMPERATIVE that when you ZIP the file back together, you name the zip the EXACT same as the xml except ending in .zip
- so select your xml and your folder (framework-res) and then right click, and zip it with winrar or 7z. make SURE it is a ZIP file and that it is the EXACT SAME NAME AS THE XML and DO NOT COMPRESS IT!
- then when you have your zip, drag and drop it into your AndroidThemes folder on your internal SD or SD (assuming you're using metamorph) and then apply with MM or Zipthemer or ninjamorph etcetc!
**it will soft reboot or freeze or whatever, just pull the battery and boot normal. or use
Code:
adb reboot
and voila! there you have it, you've made your very own custom lockrings!
cheers! :highfive:
thats all for now, but this post will be updated when popular questions arise.

Assuming you don't F up the normal steps you take to flash it you can just make an undo-zip instead of the backup?

its all about the love my friend
1) T-Mobile (and probably others) Note 2 has to be rooted.
2) Copy your SystemUI.apk file (from system/app) to your PC.
3) Open it with WinRAR or other archiving program
4) Go to the res\drawable folder
5) Delete stat_sys_battery.xml (or rename it to .xmbak)
-- you can delete the charging one too but I like to see my stuff charging...
6) Repack the .apk using WinRAR
7) *** SAVE YOUR ORIGINAL SYSTEMUI.APK!!! ***
8) do this by renaming your existing SystemUI.apk to SystemUI.bak
9) Copy the new SystemUI.apk to your system/app folder.
10) Reboot and enjoy. Worked for me, should work for you.
DISCLAIMER - I am not responsible if you screw anything up, which is why you should ALWAYS back up your phone and the SystemUI.apk before screwing with it.

Note: com.android.systemui has stopped working because I'm an idiot and didnt name the file correctly... learn from my mistake LOL!
There any way u can post ur .apk I am not home and will like to try this ty
Yup. Here it is.
NOTE: I am running a T-Mobile Galaxy Note II with Frosty JB v7.5 (see my signature) - I am newer to all this stuff so use this at your own risk, again backup prior to changing anything!! I actually copied the apk that came with the ROM and made 2 backups of it and then put my new file in place, renamed it to SystemUI.apk, and over-wrote the existing one. worked like a charm.
just a quick question, If I edit stat_sys_battery to where I add maxLevels for all 100 %s and add drawables for them, would this make the 1%Mod??

thanks for this, tried your apk but center clock is blue. i decided to mod the systemui and all works. thanks
Two things.
1) I couldnt find the old post, but Foreverloco was the one a while ago that said to do it this way, so a big thanks to him also. I could not remember so I was messing with it today and remembered how to do it.
2) Also, the center clock is blue - not sure how to change that pulled it from another mod, I didnt make it centered that was from the post in themes for the deodexed addons.

I'm doing some research now, actually, on that. I love the center clock but that was something I flashed. I want to learn how to make an entirely custom status bar up top, so that's going to be my new project (and first) I think.
let me know please would like to move the clock, i have n2 tmo, tried the apk but made my whole status bar disapear, so i went in manually and did it works fine, thank you
There's one HELL of a good guide here on all this stuff...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1989533
and also
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1237528
I think changing the clock to center requires mod in frameworks or mod in systemUI, that means need to use apktool. Tried this once with my gnex, trial and error
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
I've been playing with it. I have decompiled and recompiled the SystemUI.apk a few times last night and this morning before work and changed around a little bit of things like font sizes and colors... just need to find out where to change the size and color of the battery percentage text and then do some nicer icons and my status bar preferences will be all good
I'd also like to modify the weatherbug apk file needed to make the temperature text in the status bar match the rest of it, because its darker than the other blue I have picked out... so we'll see this weekend how it goes.
And they just replied on the post for APKTool... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39660963#post39660963

Yes, you must add all the 100 % to the XML and also put all PNG to drawable-xhdpi, you should change also stat_sys_battery_charge.xml like stat_sys_battery.xml to make the 1% mod also available when your phone is charging.
Gave it a try worked great thanks

There are so many variations of Project X now that I felt a new thread needed to be made. I am also encouraging all of you users to make your own variation of the ROM. In this thread anybody is free to release their own variation of this ROM. I will keep an eye on the thread and link all the ROMs in the OP. Please include the features, a download link, and some screenshots when you post. This ROM was community built through feedback, requests, additions of users, and suggestions and this thread will embody that to the fullest. Feel free to leave your suggestions here. All requests may not be filled but who knows. Feel free to add your mods and anything you wish to contribute, no contribution is too small. Wallpaper to ROM, we accept it all. You just have to be a little STRANGE.

How to make a custom themed version of Project X to post in ten easy steps-
Do yourself a favor and read the whole thing before starting, it will save you some time.
1) You can use flashable mods to theme your ROM (Missing Link, etc) as you all probably know, the key is to know what files are modified. So flash all your mods and get it themed the way you want first. Unzip the ROM on your computer using 7zip or any similar program. (You can technically do it on your phone but it's not recommended)
2) SystemUI.apk in system/app is what controls the status bar and pulldown menu and the "stock toggles" if you have themed any of these, go into system/app with a root browser and copy the SystemUI.apk to your SD. Replace the SystemUI.apk in the unzipped ROM with your new one. (By replace or copy I mean delete the one in the ROM and move your modified one in)
3) Next up is framework-res.apk in system/framework. Repeat the same process as above. Believe me, you modified this file in some way. It controls lock screen, transition animations and a host of other framework stuff.
4) You probably modified SecSettings.apk as well, it's in system/app, copy it over.
5) If you modified the contacts or the dialer, copy over SecContacts.apk and SecPhone.apk. They are in preload/symlink/system/app. Note: check system/app for your modified file, as Missing Link moves these to system/app.
6)Non"Stock" toggles are in lidroid-res.apk in system/framework, copy that over if you changed them.
7) It would probably be a good idea to copy over your services.jar and android.policy.jar in system/framework as well.
8) If you want to change the build name get Notepad++ on Windows or gedit on Linux, open up build.prop and change "ro.build.display.id=" to whatever you want your build to be called. If you want to add apps simply put them in the respective data/app, preload/symlink/system/app, or system/app folder where they are found on your current ROM.
9) If you want to change the boot animation (bootanimation.zip) it is located in system/media. Ringtones, notifications, and alarms are in system/media/sounds. Also if you want to change any GApps (inverted, transparent, etc) or even add them they are located in preload/symlink/system/app. Make sure you test them, they don't always flash right in the ROM. If they have any libs in the zip package make sure to move them to system/lib.
10) Now we have everything done, now go back to the folder with your unzipped ROM (you should see system, preload, Meta-INF, etc) highlight everything here, right click and hit Compress (compression is normal if it asks). Now you have a ROM zip. Flash it to make sure it boots and test it out for at least an hour to make sure everything works. Then upload it to a file hosting site (like DevHost) and post the link, screenshots, and features in this thread.
If this is above your head, don't worry, keep reading and learning. You'll get there, no need to rush into things. If you do understand all of this, this is your chance for your 15 minutes of XDA fame in the easiest way possible, you can do it! Don't be afraid to ask if you have a question.
