Roam control - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Has anyone got it to work on the Sprint GN? I'm trying to purchase it right from the website but it fails every time. Has anyone been able to purchase it recently?

It's never worked on my sprint gnex. Always force closes when selecting.such a shame too because it seems like this phone will do anything to not switch into roaming

Go to the sprint galaxy nexus thread they found a way to write Verizon prls and corparate prls easily that way you can choose to roam and what not and its free

Yeah, I've seen that but I don't want to roam all the time and changing prls isn't exactly flip of a switch.

Actually it is. Go check out that thread, they detail how to use anycut to make a shortcut on you home screen for flashing the prl. Takes 30 seconds to do.

Actually its not. The flip from one prl to another requires phone reboot. That's just way too long. I don't mind slower speed using my current, normal prl. I would just like to force it so my phone is not going crazy trying to hold on to a signal. I know CM7 had that feature. I only wish they added this to CM9.

It literally takes 30 seconds. Its not even a full reboot, and it's currently the only option for doing what you want so either try it or don't.

In order to flash a prl, I have to rename it TEST.prl. Is there a way to keep the prls with their proper names so it's easier to switch from one to another?

You really can't but I imagine someone can write an app that just writes the test file and runs the PRL flasher. The phone really does not have to be rebooted as the sprint update does it without a reboot. It would be nice to skip that need.

Hopefully somebody that codes will step up. This is the one feature I'm really missing after moving over from the EVO.

[Q] force roaming

is there any way for me to get my stock 2.2 epic 4g to force roam without rooting the phone?
I don't believe so. In fact this issue is what helped nudge me to learn to root in the first place. Do it, you won't regret it. It gives you so much more control over your phone.

You should be able to change to a verizon prl without rooting. There's a thread in dev section on how to update it manually. Check it out might be what you need.

Only problem is, will they get pinched for doing that by Sprint eventually since it's going to be on Verizon more or less always. And, it'd prevent them from getting proper data service. Unless there's a way to switch PRLs on the fly I'm not aware of.

No way to switch on fly and I've been using a 0001 prl for over a month now. And used roam control constantly for about two months before that and never had any issues with sprint.

I read somewhere that we get 800mbs a month on roaming before you get flagged, then i think they offer you an airrave cell tower, after that i think they terminate ur contract (free of ETF *wink* *wink*)
EDIT: which is why Roam Control rocks, solid 1x is better than nothing
Correct and people have been terminated for that reason. Just root and get roam control from the market. Its simple too root. And roam control works great. I find myself in areas with 1 or no bars of service and goes up too 4 or 5 when roam control is on

How to force LTE only on Sprint Galaxy Nexus? [Without Root]

Is there a way to do this and if not is there a way to do by rooting the phone? What is the best and simplest way to root the phone if need be. Like a stock root by just rooting it without flashing new ROMS.
I have decent 4G LTE coverage like 2 or 3 bars but my 3G coverage is like 3 to 4 bars so it keeps switching over to 3G. When I am in the right spot like upstairs rather than downstairs the 4G LTE is blazing fast. If I had a program to keep it on 4G LTE downstairs that would be great.
Dialer>*#*#4636#*#*> phone information> scroll down and choose lte only from the menu
Hope it helps

That won't stick.
And you can't force LTE only even with root.
LTE is data only, how are you going to receive calls and texts?
Dialer>*#*#4636#*#*> You have to have MSL number which I can't get on the Galaxy Nexus Sprint Version. And also I heard that it does not give you an LTE only option just the same one in the system [LTE / GSM].
Also I don't care whether I can make or receive calls. When I just want to use the phone for DATA at the moment I use Foxfi so I can just use it as a wifi hot spot. When I am done I can put it back on to 3G.
Anyone know how to get the MSL number for Sprint Galaxy Nexus?
Also you are telling me with root or no root there is no way to force the phone to stay on 4G LTE? I find that hard to believe and if it is that is sad.
It is not possible to do LTE only on this device.
Why is that? Can anyone create an APP for it or is it hardware?

Is there no way to build a ROM/kernel from AOSP that has the CDMA radio disabled? does the LTE radio require the CDMA radio to be transmitting?
Exactly, I mean if the radio can be on 4G and not 3G why can it not stay on 4G? Is it still on 3G when it shows its on 4G like on both of them on at the same time? And if that is the case can you force the weaker 4g as primary and leave 3G on in the background?
Anything at all here? Will some of the apps on the market work for the Nexus? What if I get msl code and use 4G only in that? Has anyone tested that?

It uses 3G and 4G concurrently, if not how are you going to receive calls and texts?
Like I already said, changing it to LTE only in the *#*#4636#*#* menu won't stick, regardless of whether you are rooted or not.

part 2 still stands.
Yes I do not care about voice calls. If I want to download a movie or something I do not have to have calls during that time. So has anyone found any new information or app that will perform this function to Force 4G on the Galaxy Nexus? Again I do not care about Voice Calls.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium App
All the Mifi hotspots can be set to do LTE only. This should definitely be possible especially since support for voice through data is right around corner.
Okay I rooted my phone, and got MSL code, but now when I go through all the settings I still do not have LTE only setting just hybrid as my last option. I have been reading some forums and some people with Sprint phones have LTE only option. Is this true? Do I need a paticular ROM? Anyone figure this out or have any idea?

This works on my Galaxy Victory for Virgin Mobile.. it does mean you can't recieve calls but I use it anyway..
Download an app in play store called "Show Service Mode" - costs a little $
Open the app
Select the third box to create a shortcut
Go back to the main screen and click the new shortcut
Select LTE band preference
Then select LTE ALL
DONE!!!
To switch back to normal open the same shortcut and choose automatic

Updating PRL

So Today I thought I would begin my journey of updating manual PRLs. I have read all the guides 5x over, and am now just looking for a good PRL file. Are there any that allow us to use Sprint 3g/4g when available, and when its not, switch over to verizon 3g? Also, if I have read correctly, its safe generally to assume that if I use less than 2GB a month on verizon I am safe? Also, is using custom PRL files legal? I don't want to use a custom one if it isnt.Thank You!
That would be nice to switch over when we felt like it especially since roam control don't even work

Agreed. I would begin experimenting with PRL files posted for other sprint devices, but since I have never flashed a Custom PRL before, and my warranty is already used, I don't want to risk it without a recommendation on a PRL file from someone over here at xda.
Also, what is the legality of custom PRL files, I have no intention of doing anything illegal.

Yeah you can do ##786# but that wipes your data. I know there's another code to do a hands free activation. I can't remember it now
Great post. I need this because my parents live in a former Alltel area and I get zero coverage for Sprint and will not access the tower. If you want to go back to original prl...search for 25006 and follow same steps in OP.

We call him St. nicholaaaas around here. I went back to stock and flashed 24006. I swear 3G is better even on stock. I don't know about switching but I'm getting better signal and speed. No Sprint 4G in my area.
I can speak to the performance on CM10 yet because of course after flashing stock I forgot to say yes to disable stock restore boot so trashed all my nightly backups and have yet to get a good nightly install. But hey, I'm getting very adept at restoring stock. I'm glad I went back for another reason. The pleasures of CM10 are more evident after having gone back to the original Samsung rendition.
Thanks for the PRL.
I write ny prl by using any cut. I create a prl write short cut and rename the prl to test.prl . Might be simpler no msl required

Thanks for this. Awesome having PRLs! The Verizon ones in Jax, FL go LoS often (connected to network, but loss of data connection). I haven't tried 01337 yet, though. I don't think LTE is affected by PRLs due to it being a GSM technology.

No need for a hands free activation, you can do as you mentioned and just go into your update PRL from Settings and get it done that way to get back to your 'stock' PRL.
From my experience, disabling data first will cause this to stick more times than not.
As another guy said, use Google to search for the anycut apk and you can create a shortcut that way. It's listed as 'PRL Write' within the app. Once you do this, you can just click that shortcut, hit the button and the phone will reboot. Not a big time saver, but one nonetheless depending on how often you're planning on using this.
If you use the 00001.prl (VZW only) it will show up as '1' in 'About Phone'. The preceeding 0's are omitted for some reason.
For me personally it's the only one I use as Sprint doesn't have a roaming agreement with VZW in Chicago, so if I have a bad signal, this is my only choice.
For those of you just changing a PRL to enable 3G data when you roam, let's say naturally, you probably won't need to revert back at all. In that case, just freeze System Update so Sprint doesn't roll you back after a day or two.

Roaming on Verizon, with 3G Data&MMS?

I'm interested in being able to roam on Verizon, since Sprint is a POS at my school and home, and I'm constantly loosing messages, and data speeds are very sad. Anyways, I did a quick search and found a guide on changing the PRL to Sprint's "Corporate PRL" which apparently grants roaming with 3G data on Sprint, but it seems as if though that guide is old (Sept 19 from last year) and I'm not sure it'll work on my ROM (AOKP JB) So, does that guide still work? Is it safe? If no, what are my other options?
Also, how much minutes/texts/data usage would piss off Sprint? I've been meaning to switch for a while now...

I don't want to get too deep into this since there is a PRL thread in the forums, but doesn't that one force you to roam all the time? Sprint has a roaming limit of something like 200MB a month; if you go over that they can and frequently will cancel the rest of your contact. Some people do that on purpose, which I don't recommend or advise. If you just want to use your phone when you don't have much of a signal, use a PRL like 11115 along with the app Roam Control, that way you control when the phone roams.
yes.. oooo2 or w.e is a verizon prl roaming 100%.. i used the sprint corp prl i think 11124 or something which wasnt roaming while set to home only. but would have verizon 3g while in roam only with roam control which is compatible with jb now... however if using verizon eventually u will get a call from sprints roaming team.. and the prl thread is right. just need to be on a tw rom and when u go back to a aosp rom prl will stay until u update it
