Anybody else getting "parsing" error when installing Swype? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Had my Gnex for about 3 weeks. Rooted and installed RAScream/Trinity last night. When I tried to re-download swype from the swype installer app, it seems to start, and then fails, giving me the message: "Parse error. There is a problem parsing the package."
There are some posts on the Swype forums about the issue (e.g., http://forum.swype.com/showthread.php?6320-Parsing-errors-Read-this!), but none of the solutions seem to work.
Anybody know a workaround? Typing without swype is ridiculously painful.
For what it's worth, I do have a nandroid backup from before I installed this ROM, and I had swype installed then. But it seems like a bad project to reinstall that nandroid just to extract the swype APK from it. Is it possible to get the swype APK out of that nandroid backup without reloading that backup onto my phone?

Titanium can restore from a nandroid.

Which solutions did you try from the forum?
I had the same problem, but it worked for me when I downloaded it with just 3g.

I tried 3g. No luck. I'll try to selectively restore it using Titanium.

Sweet I'm back on Swype thanks to this suggestion. Paid the $6 or so for pro version and easily restored just Swype from the nandroid. Perfect!

I was just about to ask this same question, but I found your thread so thank you lol. I can confirm that the Titanium Backup method works, if you have a back up you can restore swype if you are getting the installation error.

I had to download it via 3g to get it to work.
However, I recently switched to TouchPal Keyboard, another free sliding keyboard. I find I'm more accurate with it, and I find editing easier.
I switched the second time my swype beta license unexpectedly expired, and I didn't find out until I went to respond to an urgent email. I also didn't like the double download for swype, nor the new downloader (for DragonGo) they've added. It's a keyboard... why all the downloaders?

Yeah for any future readers of this thread I would just note that when you restore from a nandroid, you restore something named 'com.input.Swype' or 'com.keyboard.Swype' or something like that (I can't remember exactly what it was). There is nothing just named 'Swype'

I ran into this issue as well after trying a new ROM. I tried everything and nothing would work... until I signed up with a different email address then it worked perfectly. I'm guessing this is the same issue you were having. Since then I've used Titanium and restored it that way

Here is how I got Swype back:
If any of you have a NAND backup of before you lost Swype, you can pull out com.swype.android.input (or something very similar) from the backup and extract it. Once extracted and restored (app + data), wipe cache and dalvik and go enable it in Settings --> Language and Input. BAM!!! You got Swype!!

Help Please!!!! MD5 Mismatch

Hello All,
So I attempted to install my first ROM today and it was successful. Prior to installing I made a nandroid backup and it looks like everything went smoothly.
I tried out the new ROM and it wasn't to my liking. I want to restore to my Stock ROM but when going to backup and restore in ClockworkMod Recovery and clicking restore it says Checking MD5 sums then says MD5 mismatch!
What does this mean and how do I fix it? Thanks.
I figured out what I did wrong. When I made the nandroid I renamed the file and put spaces in the file name. When I renamed the file again with no spaces and tried another restore it worked perfectly. Thanks.

Yup. CWM backup files can't have spaces in them. Are you the one who was looking for suggestions to try custom ROMs? Did you not like DW?

Hi yoft1,
Yes, I was the one looking for suggestions to try ROMs. I actually liked DW. It was easy to install and booted fast even on the first boot. My main issues was that the Google play store kept force closing and wouldn't work. Also, there was no Gmail app. I know I can download it from the play store, but since it kept force closing it wouldn't work. Also since I am a Telus user the data icon shows 3G and not 4G for some reason. I know it's just cosmetic but I would like it to say 4G. I reverted back to stock for now.

If you know how to clear application data that should fix the force close. Roms always have the odd problem here and there upon first installation but they can easily be fixed and not touched again. If you're interested in trying again I could walk you through your issues, the end product should be a ROM with absolutely zero stability issues.
Thanks for all your help man. You are really going out of your way to make this a smooth transition for me. The only other issue was when I backed up my mms/SMS messages through Titanium Backup and restored after running DW it didn't take for some reason. All of my text conversations were gone. Also my call log was empty as well. What programs should I back up to restore this info? Also, I guess I could backup Gmail and restore that as well correct? Again your help is much appreciated. Peace.

I use SMS backup and restore, rather than tb, others have had issues restoring texts through tb too. If you want to restore call logs, call log backup and restore has worked well for others but I can't personally attest to that since I don't restore call logs between roms.
No need to backup gmail since it's all email in the cloud right?
The only things I backup are my apps (using titanium so I don't have to re download them, restoring through TB is much faster, just make sure you're not restoring any system data though) and my SMS.
No problem man.

You aren't supposed to install any system data? Because I restored Gallery, Google Play Store, Maps, SMS/MMS, Voice Command, Voice Recorder, Voice Search and Youtube.
Those apps were all considered system data, but I wanted to keep them so that's why I backed them up. Was I incorrect in doing this? Thank you.

System data usually doesn't play well across different ROMs. It's usually advised to not do that as it will cause random force closes. When you go into TB and go to batch operations, Just run "Restore missing apps with data" and you'll be fine.
Restoring data is okay, as long as it's for apps. This is your save data for games, etc. System data on the other hand, causes problems. Anything that isn't restored through "Restore missing apps with data" can be downloaded or is already included on the ROM.

I use Mybackup Pro - you can backup both contacts and messages
---------- Post added at 02:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:05 AM ----------
I did also get the mismatch recently. I don't know if it was a glitch. In my rom manager it shows cwm 5.0,2,7, but I recently flashed cwm touch. From the rom manager, I booted into recovery, and backed up my rom. Flashed a different rom, didn't like it, and tried to restore the one I had just backed up. I got the error, with no changes to the file name. So after completely reinstalling the previous rom, I shutdown, and booted into recovery with the volume up/down/power, backed up, and was later able to restore. It seemed to matter how I booted into cwm.
If this happens to you again without you changing any names, reflash your recovery and if your on the touch recovery then flash the old recovery.

[Q] CM 7.2 check. GAPPS check. Restore data- Kookoo for coco puffs. Help? :(

I have never been one to make an "oh my god help me" thread on a site like this. I thought I followed everything as it should have been done. But apparently not. Here's my story.
Flashed over CM 7.2 and the install went perfectly. I installed Google Apps and everything was fine. I then wanted all of my backed up apps and data back. So I went into CWM and told it to restore data. I rebooted, and dear god, everything is crashing. I get 15-30 force closes right off the bat, ADW is crashing, and things are going batcrap insane. Any idea what I did wrong or how to fix it? Thank you so much in advance for anyone with some wisdom on this topic.

Thanks for the super fast reply! Do you think I need to like... start OVER over? I guess this is a rhetorical question... I'm gonna wipe data and cache and whatnot, and restore data again before even rebooting the phone. I may have confused it by registering Google Play and downloading a couple of apps (Rom Toolbox and My Backup Pro) before restoring my data. Maybe I confused it... I'll report back my findings for anyone in the future who encounters this issue.

What do you mean piece by piece?
The way I do it is install my backup and save the apk version so when I restore phone I download a file manager install and restore apps. When you backup apps you just save it as apks only. And save data and it restores properly. But whatever haha.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Well, it let me decide exactly which apps to restore, since I guess I had backed up so many times that I wouldn't have even had room... It allowed me to go app by app and decide which ones to restore, along with the respective data, as well as doing all the system data at once. It was really quite nice. But I was being stubborn and thought for some reason restoring from CWM was the best route, so thanks for the redirection
Your mistake was restoring data from a nandroid (CWM). It restores system data as well. Unless it is a known good nandroid and basically the same firmware (ie. Touchwiz EL30 to Touchwiz EL30, CM7 RC2 to CM7 RC3) you should not use that to restore data. Glad you got everything working again.

[Q] Titanium Backup issue after ICS

I just flashed Mr X's Telus stock ICS ROM, and I'm having trouble with Titanium Backup. I have the proper backup folder selected, and the little toast pops up with the correct number of app elements, but when I hit batch, it doesn't show that I have any backups to restore. It shows only the apps that are on the phone stock. Any suggestions? This is driving me nuts.

Did you manually go explore the directory you had the backups in before to ensure that they are actually still there? Like with root explorer, etc?
You could try clearing data in application manager and re-install, try to copy the backup directory somewhere else, then specify in settings where it is.. Maybe its a cache issue?
Good luck

Try restoring a single app. with my ICS flash I got prompted that the phone ID was different that what was used to install TB and through the prompt I reset the phone back to the original ID, and it allowed the restore. Just wondering if you are not seeing a prompt due to the batch mode..
I figured it out. Apparently the default setting now is to filter out apps not currently installed. How [email protected]#!& stupid is that?! After three flashes and as many hours I find this.:banghead:

Hey OP, im having the same problem. I can restore apps one by one manually but when i try to batch restore all my apps it doesnt work. What specifically did u do to fix this issue?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
My issue was that it would not show me the apps to be installed, and I had to tap on Filters and set to All so it would show me those not yet installed.
To batch restore, you need the paid version. If you have the Pro Key, but it's not working, uninstall and re-install.

Here is how I fixed it go into TB preferences > Backup Folder Location
1. Next hit Back button till you are in the root folder of your device "/" ( this at the top)

3. Then click on the "Titanium Backup" folder. Top should say "/sdcard/ Titanium Backup"
4 . Then click use this folder
I have had the problem before as well. I suspect it is related to an old restore, but not sure. This always fixes it for me:
1. Unistall the app
2. Using Root Explorer go to System/Data/app-lib
3. Find and delete all references to the app you deleted
4. Open the Play store and re-install.
This can be done without uninstalling. When you navigate to app-lib you'll find multiple versions of the app mentioned. You keep only one (delete any duplicates), then go to System/ Data /Dalvik-cache and delete the same duplicates (if you kept -2 in app-lib, keep -2 in Dalvik). Wiping dalvik in recovery won't work. It regenerates at re-boot with the dups at least it did for me).
I have had success with both methods, but find the 1st method always works & the 2nd method does not, as it is easy to miss a copy in dalvik. The Dalvik versions are deleted for you with the uninstall so I find it simpler.
I spent weeks looking for this solution a while back for my GNex so I hope I've saved you a headache or two.

This is basically how I fixed the problem on my N4 and N10 as well. Basically, you're backing up to the same location, it's just that TiBu doesn't like the old file path (for me, it was: /storage/emulated/0/TitaniumBackup) and wants you to use a different one (for me, it is: /storage/sdcard0/TitaniumBackup).

+1 to this solution. I had the same problem using TiBu when I tried to backup my apps to prep for a switch from CM10.2 to Paranoid Android.
Thank goodness for TiBu's update.zip feature, makes jumping between ROMs much less of a pain.

So glad I found this thread, it works! Thank you
I have had the same problem since moving from CM 10.1 to CM 10.2. Seems my super su also wants to update binaries after every nightly flash. Can't update binaries normal way so I flash them in TWRP. After the supersu flash, my titanium backup works perfectly.
I've tried everything except re flashing the phone. Nothing at all works, and I'm at the end of my rope. EDIT: Here's the only thing that fixed it! Downloaded SuperSU, allowed it to boot into recovery to update the binary, and now TIBU works fine! That was the ONLY solution that worked.

[Q] swiftkey restore via Tib in 4.3

Hey, first I want to ask if its just me, rom related or a common issue.
Using slim rom. I restored apps via tib and all is fine except swiftkey that informed me about failed download of language pack which should be backed up tho..since in 4.2.2 i havnt any problem once. So it asked me to redownload it but my personal data pack was gone so I tried to restore only data and suddenly swiftkey stopped working. Like completely spammed me with ''stopped working'' until I deleted it.
Then all apps were crashing also. Couldnt even reboot. Did it twice with same effect.
Tbh my question is does swiftkey work after restore for anyone?

I think its a titanium backup issue, i noticed some apps cause titanium to hang during restore when trying to restore user apps on CM10.2, nexus update checker app will just hang tibu in an instant an ruin the whole restore process.
