Will the HTC phones have this UI anytime soon ?
ELSE Mobile phone user interface
VIDEO: Hands-on with the ELSE Access Linux Platform smartphone
this is what i thought wm7 was going to look like
That 'home' menu looks pretty cool, the rest of the phone, eh. What's up with those side buttons?
However, their actual 'phone' functionality niceities are interesting - e.g. call handling while in another app, or during a meeting, etc. I'd actually pay for that as an app for our phones!
Also, their multitasking handling was cool.
BTW: Probably the wrong forum

Where should it be then ?
what category ?
Hi ilordvader,
You should go on the official site for more info: http://www.firstelse.com/
Also, it has nothing to do with Windows Phone 7 series (This UI is based on Limo).
To my mind, this thread should be moved in General forums.
Cheers.
This is actually much better than stupid iPhone-like WP7. And it even multitasks.

Multitasking is not special. Every phone EXCEPT the iPhone multitasks. Windows Mobile has been doing it for a decade.

Of course. I was trying to be sarcastic, because WP7 (just like iPhone) will not have true multitasking.
BTW,
The company which is responsible for this phone is an Israeli company called Else (foremly Emblaze). Another israeli designed cellphone is the Modu (or Modo, i'm not sure) which is intended for developing markets.

I hate tiny buttons
I love WP7 for it's big buttons.
I have said time and again, when you are mobile, you are HANDICAPPED. You cannot be looking for tiny buttons while you are walking down the street and typing an email or browsing.
So you need a phone with a large(er) size i.e HD2, and big buttons.
HD2's biggest flaw is it's array of tiny buttons on the bottom.

This thing has to be moved onto another forum.
Anyway, you can see that it is Linux-based, so maybe we can have it when we'll get a working Linux kernel for the HD2!
...Or on other devices (that are already running Linux just fine) like Diamond, Blackstone, Raphael etc.!

i would like to see how it's developed in the future and if they release a version of hardware with a slide out keyboard if so i think i'd be interested in makin the switch if the development got big enough as thing here on xda have gotten

they should worry about the 10%, because they are not a very well known company and they could use all the customers they can get, i saw the ui about 1 month ago, and after that i read about it again yesterday in this thread. they would be better off selling the ui idea to a bigger OEM or MS or Apple or Google, because only then this ui will become popular.

Always in the NYC Microsoft press event, with the Samsung protoype...
At the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival (Microsoft Advertising)... WP7 in october!
Awesome. And a much better recording than the presentations at MIX.
It's much more clear the phone don't lag, and how smooth using the interface actually is, when watching this video.
Not to sure I prefer Pink over Blue, but hey! always good with possibilities.
Now that is pretty awesome!

Yup. GMail, yahoo, and windows live are all specifically listed. It has a auto-config feature that may work with some others. But it also supports any pop3, imap, or Outlook ActiveSync service (which GMail and now Windows Live supports).

First post updated with new video from Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.
The vocal search seems pretty cool
Great to see the pink accent colour - while it wouldn't be my choice, that means they've added a few more since the leaked and unlocked ROM.
GMail support showed up in the leaked rom already, if you clicked 'set up email account' you could choose it from a list.

I don't think so. First of all, it's too early to say something. Second, if MS will do it, they will completely lost mobile market.
I agree, They aren't doing exactly great at the moment and it would surely destroy them? Time will tell of course but it's interesting all the speculation that goes round before something like this, I hope we do get Apollo or even a lesser version of it, Look at Desktop OS, You have basic through to Ultimate editions although not entirely based on Hardware.

None of the old phones but one has got ICS after it's announcement nearly half a year ago. If that is going gaga, MSFT is leap years ahead of that.
iOS5 - give you that. Again they have 1 phone to upgrade. Not 5-6 different OEMs with 2-3 phones each!

Well said Vetvito,
No doubt we will all end up with the best bit of kit available at the time, personally it will hardly be the end of my world. Besides M$ have been playing this game for years and years, they know their roadmap and we along with the (slow news day) media dont ever have a clue.
There has always been speculation and a healthy amount of bull floating about regarding any update for any O/S or platform........but still i have a Windows phone........shocker huh.
Have a little faith, they havn't exactly shot you in the face yet and they arn't about to knowingly lose money/customer base now are they.
Kind Regards,
Creamy
Yeah it seems even theVerge is now getting on the Apollo updates might actually be happening road
Microsoft has a history of ****ing up successful lines , remember XP? They decided the time was right to migrate to Vista and cut off support to there "flagship" , that really worked out in there benefit considering more than half of all Windows users are still using XP , XP is 10 years old!!
Personaly I did migrate and am using 7-64 , but dumping the wp7 line for wp8 will alienate all of us who already got onboard , Im dev/interop unlocked , custom rom and if I cant get a custom rom with the update ,I will leave for Android and never look back , my Acer a500 is a year old now and it is better than anything being sold now because I can upgrade /downgrade do anything I want with it , the sky is the limit! MS doesn't care. They sell millions of phones to a bunch of people that will NEVER update them no matter what they offer. The problem is this place is one big geek circle jerk. MS and Nokia want to sell phones to teenage girls and business people. As long as the phone looks cool and covers the basic functions both groups are happy. They are not 20 something male software developers. They just want to text, email, talk, check the weather and play angry birds. The business people also want MS office and some kind of enterprise email calender solution.
They don't want to flash a custom ROM or root a device. If you want to see how the average consumer interacts with tech check out my post HERE.

Just to be clear, they didn't cut support for xp until midway through 2010, and this wasn't to abandon xp for vista. It was after windows 7 was released. They didn't "force" people to use vista, they released something far superior to it, THEN forced you to use it, haha.
Edit: thanks for the next poster correcting this, Microsoft still supports XP and will for two more years.
This is a big deal for me, if we never receive root.

OK, so this is pretty exciting information, i just hope this isnt something the carriers can disable in some way.
That being said, I do see one major downfall and that is, IMO, this might cause carriers to push the update slower, or even omit some devices that would normally get updated to make sure their apps are getting used on as many devices as possible.
Cant wait!!!
If true, it's a game changer. But why do I get the feeling carriers will still find a way to install crapware/bloatware that we can't remove.

Damn, I agree! The main reason I wanted Root (well two reasons) was for bloatware removal/freeze, and for backing up apps/app data (especially games!)....Well now with most apps doing the cloud-save thing, if Lollipop really does allow us to remove both carrier AND oem bloatware, I won't be as desperate to Root....although IF Root ever comes to our ATT Note 4, I'll still Root, just won't be as desperately needed. I'd still like to put a custom ROM on my Note4 someday, but I can wait a year or so.....after I'm out of warranty
Lets look at this like the millions upon millions of people who own a smartphone and never, ever figure out even the basics on how to use it. You know the ones, the idiots who buy the iPhone for an outrageous price, and don't even know how to use text messaging. (My mother ... I sent her a picture while on vacation of her grand children, then when I got home she handed me her phone and said "What did you do to my phone, it now has this thing on it" and I had to show her the message!) We see it all the time. People who don't even know that there is a calculator, or how to set up their email, or how to do anything other than Candy Crush on it...
The carriers can do whatever they want to those phones. Those people (and I would bet you are looking at 90% or more of smartphone owners) don't know how to uninstall an app, or don't bother to try. You could make the boatware uninstallable and the vast majority of people would still have it, and never know the difference. Up until recently the only people taking off bloatware were people like us who found a way... Root hasn't been this hard for very long, so their bloatware install numbers won't change much if we can uninstall without root.

Yes, for 2 reasons. Buying an iPhone and having absolutely no idea why she did it. I think people who are passionate about the iPhone an want one, more than anything else are delusional, but at least most of them can articulate why they want it, and many of them use it to its very limited potential. Then there is my mom, who got an iPhone because to her, thats was really the only phone they had at the store. Its falling for the advertising.
And the second reason... she released me into the wild to be a productive member of society... anyone with half a brain would have realized that it would be a key step in the collapse of modern civilization. :silly:

Well, seems the way around this is already out there. This will just continue to put these apps on like they currently do, and we still can't remove them. This will only be handy if they have their programs to be downloaded automatically from the play store.....which they probably won't, they'll keep them in the system.

a dock for the phone on the go in a laptop form is perfect, I dont need a windows laptop and sometimes i just need a keyboard or bigger screen but dont want a android tablet as its a tethering nightmare and android is such a pain to update unless its googles own products. The laptop works as a extension of the phone so no messing around with tethering when on the go slap your phone into the dock and your browsing the net straight away. perfect for those on an unlimited data plan.
