two days ago, i rooted my phone using simple root, nand unclocked and flashed clockwordmod and everything. i was using fresh rom, and i wanted to use the vanilla lockscreen. but in order to do that, i needed to flash amons ra. i tried doing that, and somehow i got rid of my clockword recovery mod (and amons ra didnt work) so whenever i went into recovery mode, it just stayed at the screen with the phone and triange and red exclamation mark. i tried running the recovery windows .bat file, but it didnt work. and i tried running the ruu .exe file to unroot my phone, but everytime it said it couldnt find my device, even though it was connected via a usb chord. i tried it in charge only mode, disk drive mode, and htc sync mode and none of them worked. i tried using rom manager, but everytime i tried doing something it said error attempting to run privilidged scrips or something. i tried downloading the superuser .apk file and installing it onto my phone, but that didnt work either. the terminal emulator didnt work when i tried to flash something, it just said it couldnt find the file on my sd card, even though i put it on there. help?
Okay, number one: Did you try holding volume UP + power at the red exclamation screen? I think that's how you enter AR recovery.
Number two: You can flash Fresh tweaks without using AR. You just have to reboot into ClockworkMod and flash the .zip files manually.
Are you able to boot ANY ROM right now? If so, is it rooted? If it is, try to reinstall ROM Manager.
Sounds like you went a little off the deep end when you couldn't get into AR.
any suggestions?
Yeah, answer my questions or provide more info so you can get better direction.
you can reflash either recovery with the simple root program or you can follow the first part of toasts root method part 2 to restore recovery.

ill try your first suggestion. and i cant boot any rom right now, because rom manager isnt working. and im pretty sure my phone is rooted, because i still have dev tools and CIQ settings and all those rooted apps.
update: your first suggestion worked, except once i entered AR recovery, the only options i had were: reboot system now, apply sdcard:update.zip, wipe data/factory reset, and wipe cache partition. at the bottom, it said "E: can't open /cache/recovery/command,

i tried reflashing with simple root but it didnt work. can you give me a link for toasts method?
i had a similar problem, i used the OTA simple root, get that and plug ur phone back in with debugging on , one of the drop down menus will let you flash a recovery so flash clockworkmod
okay so somehow i managed to unroot it by wiping my data/cache..but now whenever i try using simpleroot or OTA simpleroot it doesnt work, because it says device is not found. i have it plugged in via usb, usb debugging is on, and ive tried it in charge mode and disk drive mode. anyone know what the problem is?
I'm sure there is a way to fix this, but I would suggest using the full root method by toastcfh.
okay i'll just reroot using that method, thanks. also, whenever im on my computer and im using command prompt, none of the adb commands ever work. do i need to download something for it to work?
Yes, you need the ADB framework. Read the guide (or the one by TheBiles, which is basically a rewrite). The ADB framework is a part of the Android SDK. You have to run ADB commands from the ADB directory (which is actually the "tools" folder inside of the SDK directory, wherever you extract that). Just cd to the tools folder, then run your commands from there.
Out of no where I got a message on my phone, saying that my sd card was unmounted. I wasn't doing anything other than I normally would. Now when I try to access my SD card, it's not even seen by the G2. I've formatted it to FAT32 and nothing, I've restarted the phone multiple times and no dice, and I have given it time to rest. I cannot seem to find the issue with this, but I have heard about some issue with the SD card latch thing. What can I do to fix this issue? Any advice would be greatly welcome
Have you tried another SD card to see if it is the phone or the SD card giving you problems?

Is it the SD card that came with the g2 or a different one?
I had this happen with a 32GB patriot class 10 I put in my G2. It would corrupt and do the exact same until I full formatted it on a PC. (long story short it's a issue with the sdcard itself and has to be formatted a special way, but it's ONLY THIS CARD).
Try a different card, if a different card works then full format the nonworking card. If that still doesn't work then there may be a off chance (a very very off chance) that the card went bad.
Went to the T-mobile store and tried 2 different sd cards. Neither of them worked... any way to fix this on my own? If not, then can I un-root my G2 without an SD? If I call up costumer care, they'll probably want me to send my G2 in and will notice it has been rooted and such. I heard somewhere that as long as it looks stock, they won't do/say anything... not sure if this is true though..

Yikes, I'm not sure if you can if it can't read a image off the sdcard to flash.
You do have a legit hardware issue that rooting couldn't cause though.
The sd slot is not fixable most likely.
But getting your phone back to stock is.
if you have an eng s-off bootloader you can usually fasboot update the PC10IM.zip if you rename it to update.zip and place it in your adb/fastboot fodler on your pc like so:
fastboot update
ot
fastboot update update.zip
not sure, it's been a while
if you have an s-on bootloader have no fear, you can still get to stock, it's a little more complicated.
find a PC10IMG.zip that has a stock recovery.img in it.
extract it and place it somwhere it is easy to locate and the path is short for ease. like c:\
download a flashable recovery update zip for the stock rom you want to load back on the device. keep it for later.
download this special recovery image:
View attachment CWM-3.0.2.4-sd-spoof.zip
extract the image and flash it from the OS, you'll need to boot your phone first then when it is up and running you need to enable usb debugging and use it to push the recovery image to your /data partition
adb push recovery.img /data
or the path is required if you put it elsewhere like c:\
adb push c:\recovery.img /data
it should be in /data/recovery.img
then open terminal or since you shoudl have adb open you can use 'adb shell' then type enter to enter a root shell
flash_image recovery /data/recovery.img
it should just spir out a
#
that means it's successful, reboot to recovery
now you will be able to push items to the root of your /data folder (or anywhere in /data really)
when you select the flash zip from recovery option it will spoof the /data folder as the /sdcard and display the contents of your /data folder rather than the /sdcard allowing you to flash without needing the sdcard to work.
now flash any stock rom from recovery.
while still in recovery you will need to flash the stock recovery image as well once you verify the stock rom is in place and boots. you will still have CWM but you wont be rooted so flashing from recovery is required. it can be flashed with the same commands you used to flash the other recovery from the OS
if you get a return of error -1 when you try to use the flash_iamge command to flash recovery PM me, i have a fix for that as well. it should be updated though not to do that any more.
ONCE YOU FLASH THE STOCK RECOVERY AND STOCK ROM, unless you manually root again, which will be tricky, you are stuck.
hope this has been helpful.

S-off and S-on bootloader? Is that the same as having S-on/S-off in general?
Larry was banned this morning, apparently being helpful isnt something highly valued around here.
yeah, you achieve s-off using gfree and you can decide if you want to install the ENG bootloader.
If you did, it should say ENG S-OFF instead of SHIP S-OFF
if fastboot allows you to do anything remotely you're in a good shape and that means you probably have a ENG bootloader.

Make sure you have the right image, stick it in the root of your sdcard. I assume you have rooted your device. Sooo, download the correct image, then do the following.
Download Terminal Emulator
Open it
Run the following commands:
su (this should grant you superuser access, if it doesn't, well, you have other issues)
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
Change the recovery.img to whatever the image you put on your sdcard was (or just rename it to recovery.img, whatever makes you happy).
It takes a couple of seconds, but it should just write it on in there. If you did it properly, you should be able to boot in to CWM Touch. If not, well, you'll have to put something new in there. I did this to install an AT&T recovery image on my Telus S3. Your mileage may vary, and I take no responsibility for it destroying your phone or your home.
touch version is not available yet only the stander one is for 6
you can refer to the following thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877761
a flashable zip update was made by billard412
or the method mention above will work just rename the file to recovery.img place it under internal sd card / and run the command via terminal
I did the Terminal Emulator thing before post and put all the commands but it said recovery.img cannot find, I'm using the file name recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.2-d2att.img download from clockworkmod website and rename to recovery.img

Flashed Philz touch CWM. Flashed BAM ROM. IT ran fine for a day and a half. Flashed the custom kernel, and immediately started getting recovery bootloops. Instead of the boot message saying "Secure Booting Error Causeevice Unlock, So boot Success." It said, " Secure Booting Error Cause:Certification Verify" then I rebooted, and it just went to recovery. I reflashed everything minus the custom kernel, and it gave me the regular message, but it won't actually boot. Someone PLEASE help!!!

Here are the solutions:
1. Download the aroma file manager here
2. Rename the file to aromafm.zip
3. Put the aromafm.zip in "clockworkmod/aromafm/" in any of the storage volumes
4. In Philz touch recovery, tap the Aroma File Manager (it will open the aroma file manager automatically if you put it into the correct folder as stated above)
5. Open the terminal in the aroma file manager
6. Type this:
Code:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/misc bs=1 count=1088
7. Reboot system

no need for the computer to see the phone storage. you can put the aroma file manager either in your sdcard or usb storage, both should be readable when you use CWM to open aroma.

why should your computer need to recognize your phone?
you can take out your microsd card & insert it into the memory card reader & transfer the aroma file thru the reader by using your PC or put the aroma file manager thru your usb / pendrive & then use usb otg & CWM will automatically mount the usb storage.

I wanted to update my phone from Software version/Baseband version PF4 to the latest Software and Baseband version PG1, but I wanted to KEEP EVERYTHING ELSE. All my apps, my ROM and my Kernel. I was able to do this in less than one hour by following these steps.
Necessary files first:
1) ODIN file. You want to have a folder with the Odin .exe and other files somewhere convenient, your desktop is fine.
2) Latest TAR file available. Currently, that is PF4. The file should end in .md5.
3) Latest CF-Auto-Root. The file should end in .md5.
4) Latest Recovery (TWRP) TAR file. The file should end in .tar.
All of these are available from thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...uide-links-files-update-root-restore-t3366862
All Put the PF4, the CF-Auto-Root and the TWRP file in the folder where Odin is.
For convenience, I also recommend installing Minimal ADB. Grab that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
Install the Minimal ADB. Run that and make sure that it sees your phone. Plug your phone in and type "ADB devices." Look at your phone and accept the security prompt if that comes up.
Once you have Minimal ADB installed the commands that you will use are "ADB Reboot Download" and "ADB Reboot Recovery." These just simplify things.
Is your phone Rooted with TWRP Recovery? Great, we can get started! If not, open ODIN. Flash CF-Auto-Root to get your phone rooted. Then flash the TWRP TAR file. And then you are ready to begin.
Make sure that you have Developer options selected and OEM unlock selected. Really. Make sure. Otherwise you will get the FRP lock.
1) From ADB, type "ADB Reboot Recovery." This should take you to TWRP. If it doesn't read up ^^^^ because you missed a step.
2) In TWRP, go to Backup. This should be the default but if not select Boot, System and Data. Make that backup, which will get stored in TWRP/Backups on your phone. Within that folder, you will see a folder with a long name with lots of numbers and letters that identifies that this backup is for your phone. I generally copy the whole Backup folder to my PC, just in case my phone gets totally wiped I can still restore it. It takes a few minutes and better safe than sorry. Backup done, you can go to the next step.
3) In ADB, type the command to put your file into Download mode. ("ADB reboot download.") Start ODIN. Click on the AP button and select the PF4 file. Let it load, it takes a while. Then click start. This will take few minutes, maybe 10, then your phone will restart back to stock. Again you are going to have to wait for a bit.
4) Let your phone finish rebooting. Once done, you can go to Settings -> System Update -> Download updates manually. You should have an update to PG1 available. Install that and again, your phone will reboot. Once that is done, check your Software version/Baseband version and they should both say PG1.
5) Again, use ADB to send your phone back to download mode and back to Odin. Select the CF-Auto-Root and Start. This should go much faster.
6) Back to Download mode and Odin one last time. Select the TWRP file and start.
7) In ADB, type "ADB reboot recovery".If you have done everything right, you should now be in TWRP.
8) I like to get rid of any bloat that may have been installed with the Stock. I go into Wipe and do both a Factory reset and then in Advanced wipe Caches, System and Data. Then go back to the TWRP main screen WITHOUT REBOOTING.
9) Click Restore and restore the backup that you did at the beginning.
Your phone is now updated to the latest Software and Baseband versions but with all your apps and data as it was before you started.
This literally took me 45 minutes today and that only because of the long rebooting times.
Have fun!
So I always have a space issue with this. I don't have enough free space on my device to hold a backup.
Do you know if there's any way to backup to an external/usb device. I have one of the micro USB to female USB adapters...and I can see the USB drive connected while in the phone, but I don't see an option to use that as a backup destination from TWRP.
Is there a way to backup off the device?

I thought I tried that. Ill try again.
Going off the top of my head, if I remember right, it said that the external drive was non-writable.
Is there a specific partition type the USB drive had to be (fat32, ext4, etc) or is there a specific process that I need to follow to mount the drive in TWRP?

Alright. I tried again this morning. The problem is, when I go into mount the USB in TWRP, it does nothing. I can't check it off. I've tried with 2 different USB sticks and I cant get it to work. When the phone is booted to system, I can see the USB, read/write without any problems.

I was able to use the cable from within the phone and do a full Titanium backup. It's not going to be 100% like your method, but at least my apps and data will be preserved (for the most part). I probably have enough space to do the backup of system and boot, then just restore the apps with data.
Thanks for your help!
