i installed CyanogenMod 7.2 RC3 on my Xperia Arc S (2.3.4) and the CM didnt load it just kept repeating itself, so before i had made a backup of my stock rom with apps installed (such as Titanium Backup, Rom manager, etc.) but when i restored it, it still was stuck at the SE boot logo and i have no idea what to do
my phone has a unlocked bootloader and its rooted on firmware .42 so i no CM stuffed my phone up cause it was probably not compatible with my Arc S
does anyone have any solutions to this (my phone is not bricked, its just stuck at the SE logo)
Please help me
Are you restoring the backup with the kernel you backed up on? If not then that's the reason for bootloops.
sinksterĀ©
i dont no, i think CM 7.2 RC3 didnt support on my xperia arc s (vers. 2.3.4) and i dont even know if i installed a kernel
but by the way is therer CyanogenMod working for my xperia arc s?
and if a kernel is need to run CM
I am nearly 100% certain, from what you have said about Sony Ericsson logo, that the reason you are stuck is because you are still using the kernel from the (official Sony) .042 firmware.
You need to use Cyanogenmod's own kernel which is inside the zip that you used to install CM7. File you need should be named boot.img
Download the attachment below and unzip it to your hard drive.
Place boot.img in the same place you unzipped the attachment.
Open a command prompt and change directory to the where you unzipped attachment.
Power off your phone.
Hold down menu button and insert data cable.
Notication LED should turn blue, indicating you are in fastboot mode.
In the command prompt type "fastboot devices" . This is just to make sure that the PC and phone are communicating okay. It should give a serial number if all is ok.
To flash the kernel type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" .
After a few seconds the command prompt window says "finished total time...". At this point you are done.
Unplug data cable and start up phone. You will probably see a different logo than Sony now and CM7 should now boot up properly.
Hope this helps.
i did exactly what u said before, i extracted the boot.img from the CM7RC3.zip to the fastboot folder of my android SDK, and then i put the CM7RC3.zip on the root of my Xperia Arc S SD card
then i used CWM to install the .zip from my SD card, the reason i think my phone was stuck on BL is because CM7 only works with gingerbread 2.3 my version is 2.3.4
build.prop of FXP124_CM7.2_RC3 indicates that it is 2.3.7
CM7 is classed as Gingerbread also, just that it is built completely from the Google open source code, rather than from anything officially released by Sony.
If using CWM you wiped data and installed the CM7 zip, plus you also flashed the CM7 kernel file, there should be nothing left of the older 2.3.4 for CM7 to clash with.
Wipe data is very important before installing ROMs. Failing to do so is often the cause of bootloops or causing other failures of a ROM to start up (such as when it just sits there doing nothing for a long time instead of loading up to the homesecreen).

I have bought a new arc s recently, and it is still in warranty. I rooted it with stock rom 4.0.2.A.0.58 without unlocking the bootloader, since I don't want to loss warranty.
I want to do some mod about the battery in status bar. While I was copying 3 files into /system/framework:
framework.jar
framework-res.apk
android.policy.jar
the last file cannot be copied, since I used a different file browser and it prompted for file replacement.
Then my arc s just keep rebooting, and there is nothing I can do.
When it starts and show the logo, I found that I can run 1-2 adb command before it reboots again. However running su causes segfault.
Can anyone help me? If possible, I do not want to unlock the bootloader. If that isn't possible, is that I can flash original rom (given I haven't unlock bootloader yet)?
Thank you very much.
Do you have a CWM back up? If so then restore using that? If not, then download the stock firmware (ftf file) from somewhere on the xperia arc forum and then flash the firmware using the flash tool. ( Hold the back button and plug in the usb cable and youll get a green LED light then find the file on the flash tool and flash it
OP, as a precaution, framework-res.apk should always be pasted last in /system/framework folder, otherwise it will really cause bootloop when you paste it early than other files.
Run a Firmware repair using Sony Ericson PC Companion.
Thanks a lot.
I tried the PC companion, but can't get it to work. Maybe I need to press back key while plugging the usb cable?
I used flashtool, and just restored the /system and without wiping the data or cache. Everything works as before, and all the apps and data are still here, except I need to root again. I can still use trackID.
HI,
Ever since installing CM 7.2 I cannot flash any other roms, I get constant HTC screen or staying on Android logo. I am not new to flashing custom roms .
I have done all wipes before an installation and after to see if that makes any difference (sadly not) The only rom that works is CM 7.2!
Anyone got any ideas what to do
thanx pp
Try removing Battery and then again switch on the phone
then same
vol dwn + power
recovery
then flash new rom
Try installing an official ruu then after that try another custom rom.
still no joy ! unrooted back to stock then rerooted and still the same
Perhaps you need a GoldCard to install a ruu official ROM.
seems my device cannot handle OC roms! any ideas why??
I had the same problem, and even CM7 stopped working....don't think my phone likes overclocking either, even if i install the overclocking kernel on stock rom, the phone goes mad!
to get back to stock:-
-if you are able to get to CWM recovery, go to that first and clear all cashes, format all drives, just basically choose EVERY "clean", "clear" and "format" option to wipe everything from the phone.
-use the same directory you used for the htcdev unlock (usually c:\android)
-search this forum for a thread called "s-on gsm how to upgrade to 2.3.5" or something like that, and download the file "Gingerbread 2.3.5 (v2.13.401.2).zip".
-extract this file and find within it "rom.zip"
-extract rom.zip to the same folder you're using (e.g. c:\android)
-you should now have files called C:\android\boot.img, c:\android\recovery.img, and c:android\system.img.
-open up a command prompt window and navigate to c:\android\
-turn your phone on while holding down the -vol key to get to hboot menu
-choose "fastboot"
-connect your phone to your pc via usb, you should see it say on your phone screen "FASTBOOT USB" or something like that, in red letters.
-now, on your pc, use the following commands to flash everything back to stock
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img
after this is done (usually only a few minutes), exit the command prompt, power off the phone and restart.
you should now have a fully restored back to stock and working ROM (although you will have to set up all your contacts, all your home srceens, options, settings, and re-download all your apps etc.
-if it's confirmed working, i reccommend then IMMEDIATELY installing CWM recovery, and making a full backup, then next time things go drastically wrong, you should be able to wipe everything then just install this backup (remember to store the backup on your pc, don't just keep it on your mem card).
good luck, this method worked for me, so hopefully you will at least get a working phone again, and if you then want to try other custom roms, you can....but i think some phones are more picky when it comes to overclocking.....i can't run anything that overclocks without the phone freezing/crashing/needing battery pull and reset.
thanks. i will give it a try
Hello everybody I have an Sony Xperia Arc S (LT18i), I come from HTC,Samsung and Kindle Fire so I'm new with Sony devices.
The Arc S is a second-hand from my brother, I thought I would give it an ICS ROM so I flashed FXP 133 CM9 and it works great without any problem (with flashing), but it wasn't as smooth as I wanted it to be and I don't want to use a buggy CM10 yet.
So I did some research and I found a reply somewhere that flashing the CM9 Baseband 72 would make the ROM smoother, so I flash Baseband 72 via FlashTool and then it won't go pass the boot animation. I thought that maybe the ROM corrupted and so I flash CM9 Stable ROM and Kernel but it's still the same, stuck at CM9's boot animation, and I wiped it clean before flashing
I know you're suppose to wait a while in first boot, but it's 20 minutes and still no boot, I can put it to fastboot, flash mode and CWM, but if you can't power it on, you can't flash it with FlashTool right? And I can't charge it, whenever I plug my Arc in the charger, it boots to the bootanimation and stuck there again.
I doubt it's something wrong with the partition or whatever it is cuz' CWM gives me "no MTD partition: userdata" and "no app2sd partition found"
Conclusion: I can't flash a firmware (maybe cuz' I can't power it on, hope there is another way) but flashing a ROM or Kernel just won't work, right now I'm plugging my charger in but still the CyanogenMod man is looking at me.
HELP NEEDED! PLEASE!

now I am guiding to you an almost new territory here but try this :
Download JJ hybrid 3.2 stable from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535971
Download ICS stock recovery kernel from here : http://www.mediafire.com/?t75gje77zciea6x
Remove your SD card..read it through a card reader and extract the jj hybrid stable zip and copy the extracted folder into \clockworkmod\backup
Now put SD card back into the phone and keep the phone turned off
Keep the Menu button(the right most button) pressed while attaching the USB cable to the phone. No need to turn the phone on. U will notice a blue led light on the side of the phone. it means the phone has been connected into the fastboot mode.
Open the flashtool. Let it identify the phone. Then click on the lightning icon on top and choose 'fastboot mode'
On the next screen click on 'select kernel to flash'
Direct the browse screen to the ICS stock recovery kernel which u downloaded.
Once its done in a few seconds, remove the usb cable and turn on the phone.
As soon as u see the SONY logo press volume key down to enter into CWM
Wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik
Then go into backup and restore >> restore >> choose the folder you had copied which should be there.
reboot when done..it would flash JJ hybrid on your phone which is a good enough ROM..but if you need CM9 you can proceed after that..Atleast you have a restore now to get back to normal in case something goes wrong..

do you mean, I have to unzip first and then zip again without participating kernel?? or I fastboot the kernel first. if the question is fastboot kernel first, that I did it.
all the instructions to install CM09 I've already done. the problem is when on the homescreen after install touchscreen cant functionand after that reboot.....

Did you format only /data?
You have to wipe /system also.
So
flash kernel
go to CWM
format, /cache, /data, /system
flash CyaongenMod .zip
reboot (not necessary)
flash gapps
boot to system
Always works for me.

this happens on every non-stock based rom. i have the same problem. if you search this forum for "touchscreen" you will find a lot of threads with this problem.every time without a solution.
FXP said in the cm10 thread "flash latest stock rom (ftf) and let it boot. this will update the touchscreendriver." but even this didn't worked for me or the one who asked.
the problem is, that the touchscreen works normaly in 1 of 20 boots, its randomly, then everything is perfect till i have to reboot...
maybe the kernel do not load our touchscreen driver correctly but why it works sometimes?
if any developer (from germany/berlin) wants to see this problem he can contact me. cause i dont think that anyone can find a solution without being able to reproduce the problem.

is that true? but I am still curious as to how CynogenMod can work in my arc. before upgrading to ICS I believe how GB works on my arc (no lags, and a bit of a problem when custom rom and modify).
like i said, there is no solution yet. you will find threads with the same problem. e.g.;

I tried to read carefully the install Cynogenmod. maybe this is a stupid question. purpose of
"Place the CyanogenMod update.zip file on the root of the SD card.
Optional: Place the Google Apps. Zip on the root of the SD card also. "
whether this is related to the inability of the touchscreen driver.
The next stupid question. is there a difference flashing kernel using flashtool and fastboot comand prompt ... most of the day, I tried different ways to install it and try to see the bugg in cyanogen forum.
Flashing CyanogenMod
If the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc has been rooted, unlocked, etc. through steps other than the method described above or running a custom ROM other than CyanogenMod and you are having issues flashing or booting CyanogenMod, it is recommended the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc be returned to stock & start over with the full instructions provided above.
Download the latest version of CyanogenMod.
Optional: Download the Google Apps for the device.
Extract the boot.img from the CyanogenMod update.zip and copy it to the same folder as fastboot (the /platform-tools folder within the Android SDK folder).
Place the CyanogenMod update.zip file on the root of the SD card.
Optional: Place the Google Apps .zip on the root of the SD card also.
Disconnect the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc from the computer and power it off.
Press & hold the Menu button while connecting the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc to the computer.
On the computer, open terminal and run the following command:
fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img
fastboot -i 0xfce reboot
While the device is reboot press the Volume Rockers a few times to boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery.
Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the side Volume Rocker to move around. Use the Power or Camera button to select.
Optional: Select backup and restore to create a backup of current installation on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc.
Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
Then select the option to Wipe cache partition.
Select Install zip from sdcard.
Select Choose zip from sdcard.
Select the CyanogenMod update.zip.
Optional: Install the Google Apps by performing steps 11 - 12 again and choosing the Google Apps update.zip.
Once the installation has finished, select +++++Go Back+++++ to get back to the main menu, and select the Reboot system now option. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc should now boot into CyanogenMod. If you don't see a menu item named +++++Go Back+++++ then try the back key of the device.

Flashing kernel using flashtool or fastboot does not make a difference. Neither does where the file is located, but I leave it in the root to find it easily.
Sent from my lt18 using xda premium
okay so heres what happened.
I have an international htc one x that is indeed rooted with no roms installed.
I did create a back up and then tried to install the MIUI rom (but I dont really know where that is on my phone. I know I made one with rom manager. I dont have any backups on my computer though)
It worked, however, it didnt have wifi or data signals so i went back to try again.
I opened my bootloader screen. For the record, it is unlocked and hboot is version 1.73 if that helps.
I wiped cashe/data/delvic everything and even factory reset and installed the MIUI RD rom now hoping it would have a difference.
The darn thing got stuck on the MIUI bootloader for hours.
I did the same thing again a few times, sometimes in different orders and then it passed on and another screen came saying 'starting apps'. That got stuck for hours too.
Now I don't have any other roms on my phone, just the MIUI RD. The original miui just vanished too, i dont see it anymore. Also, when I put my USB wire to the phone and connect it to the pc, I cant transfer newer files into it. So this is all I have access to on my phone apparently.
I tried flashing a boot.img and a couple kernels but no luck. I've been trying to do this for all day and this is my first time so I don't know much about it.
I've been googling and somethings say to open cmd and type but i keep getting 'fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command'
Currently, its not stuck at either the MIUI screen or the Starting Apps. but just the HTC logo screen and not going past.
I don't really want to install any new roms considering i've worked really hard to get this to work and I really want it now more so.
How do i fix this? I want to use this rom.
flash philz recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240646), usb mounting should work on that, then:
steps to install ROM
1. bootloader version should be 1.3x
2. copy ROM to SD Card
3. copy boot.img INCLUDED in the ROM zip to fastboot folder
4. flash the boot.img in fastboot
5. in recovery, wipe system/data/cache/everything
6. flash rom
7. restart
but how exactly do i put it on my phone? my computer isnt detecting my phone when i connect it? im sorry im not exactly an expert on this.
Go to recovery - mounts and storage - hook up the usb cable - tap the last option in the mounts and storage list and wait a few minutes. It won't be mounted instantly
ok i flashed the philtz recovery but when i flash the boot.img it says:
Finding update package
Opening update package
Installing update
installation aborted
for reference: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957490
thats the rom i used and i flashed the boot.img flasher thats right above the download link
edit: also i tried just flashing the rom again and im still stuck on the HTC screen.
its not even going to the miui screen or starting apps anymore. :[
Boot.img must be flashed via fastboot. Not via recovery !
ok, i looked up how to fastboot, downloaded sdk files and i moved the boot.img into the fastboot folder and i opened command prompt there and wrote fastboot flash boot boot.img but i keep getting:
'fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command'
what did i miss?
EDIT: ok, so the fastboot folder i got from the page didnt work so i used a different fastboot folder, dragged the .boot there and now it worked! finally passed the screen and wifi is connecting!
thank you!
Good, thanks to @tomascus. He summed it up real nice
Cheers
