[Q] Xperia Arc (running Arc S 4.0.3) unable to repair+battery drain. - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello theeere. New member here. I've used this site a whole bunch to get help before, but now I'm experiencing a problem that I haven't seen posted before! Sure, battery drainage is pretty common. I found a thread saying that I should open PC Companion 2.1 and repair my phone, but when I get to the part where I hold the back button and plug it in, my laptop gets a message saying there is no update found, even though I clicked repair. Any idea on whats going on?

Have you unlocked your bootloader and what firmware or rom are you in?
Sent from my LT18i using XDA

The bootloader is not unlocked, and I'm using the official Sony Xperia Arc S ICS 4.0.3 firmware

If you can't get the official method to work, perhaps you'd be better downloading the official firmware .ftf and applying it via flashtool. Both can be found under the development forum.
Meant to say, you don't have to unlock the bootloader to do it this way, as it's still the official firmware.

How do I unlock the bootloader/root? I wanna do this:

Did you try
Edit: gave the most possible bad advise due to misreading.
Other way is to download seus, Sony Ericsson update service, and update through that, but for sure you lose your root rights than.
Further on all your answers will be here on the first page, so you could have done some reading first, than you would have found out asking this question is a bit ought...

Settings/about phone/
Software update, your phone will check if there is an update available.
With the ota, over the air, update you have a chance you still have a rooted phone.

OTA for unlocked bootloaders will brick your phone. There is a fix for that now though.
Be careful of the advice you give.
You are right, I didn't read that, my apologise!!

You have to install flashTool 0.2.9.1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
Then get the updated firmware 3.0.1.A.0.145 or 146 https://rapidshare.com/files/4055154....146_Global.7z. You can keep your settings (option i FlashTool).
Then get the rootexperia.zip from Bin4ry http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130639 and flash it via recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14903452&postcount=169
Hope this helps
Just flash a 2.3.3 ROM (preferably rooted) with fastboot. Look in the Development section for a ROM. Its fairly easy.

There lots of ROMs and a very good tutorial how to flash using fastboot.
very thanks i try
i have tray and work. Very thanks

Arc unable to update beause of modified FW

Hi all,
PC companion detect a new FW for my arc. The ICS, great, but :
PC companion does not allow me to update because my system if modified (?)
I previously downgrade (?) from 4.0.2.A.0.69 to 62 and now I wonder what should I do to upgrade to ICS?
I've read lot of topic but I'm not able to understand either what is a boot unlock, I should I have to do to unlock, what is CFW of I don't know what.
As you can read, I'm a noob and english is not my mother tongue
Any help is welcome
If you have an unlocked bootloader?? If so dont update via PC companion. It will cause problems.
If you want to upgrade to ICS , jsut download the official ICS (.431) tft file and flash it with flash tools(locked/unclocked) and it shd take you to ICS.
I 've try many things and as a result I thing my bootloader is unlocked
(I used flashtools and a tft file from this forum)
So if I understand, I need to do the same for ICS.
I hope I will find a ICS to flash
Thank you for your answer
Just being able to use Flashtool or flashing .ftf doesn't mean that your bootloader is unlocked. Because even those on locked bootloaders can use it.
If you're not certain whether you unlocked your bootloader or not, then there's a good chance that your bootloader is STILL locked.
And you can find the stock ICS ROM in this thread. I'd suggest going with General Global World as there's little bloatware and performance is good.
Cheers!
Thank you for the link.
Not sure about unlocking effectively. I've try the official sony method using the url and emei but seems unsiccessfull.
I will try will GGW and maybe trying to remove boatware on a second times
TY!!!
PC Companion causes problems when trying to update to ICS.
Better use SUS (Sony Update Service).
succeed using flashtool and LT15i_4.1.B.0.431_Generic Global World.ftf from the link above!
Don't know what is teh SUS, but my next step is remove bloatware

[Q] xperia s new firmware official update .55 problem

greetings ,
i have an Xperia s phone with the firmware 6.1.A.2.50 rooted with root many droids (bin4ry)
software update in my phone showed that there is new update available...
i downloaded the new update...but it always fails to update..
is it cuz it's rooted??
should I unroot my device so that i can update...???
im a bit confused :silly:
You can flash stock 6.1.A.2.50 again and then try to update, it should work then. Rooting actually doesn't affect update via PCC or SUS, as far as i know.
But yes if the bootloader is unlocked then you won't be able to update as well. So your device bootloader unlocked or locked?
One more thing you should remember the new update 0.55 is not easily rootable. The method which worked for 0.50 and 0.45 won't work on 0.55
Lastly the new update 0.55 doesn't bring anything special. I tried and then went back to 0.50 again. Still it's your call.

Funny thoug, that Sony claim to be open for external development and for eg. XDA, and at the same time Sony make an effort to secure that you can't root every time they release new firmware...

:good: thanks guys,im a newbie here..i dunno the answer your question...
i bought the new device and all i did is rooted via Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v18...i dunno if it unlocks the bootlloader...
i rooted my device though it wasn't useful to me rather than before rooting cuz i dunno how to use the maximum before rooting..
i heard that the firmware is better for the RAM and i have a wireless problem (it freezes n dysfunction)..
thanks a lot again auni
anyway i fixed it ma self....just used the stupid pc companion and it worked though it took some time to download the update..
thanx XDA

[Q] Sony Arc is not detecting the battery

I have Sony Arc LT15a. One night it died, I charged the phone and when I started it up it was stock in a boot loop only displaying the Sony Ericsson logo. I brought it to a phone repair guy. He, I assumed flashed it with new firmware which was LT15i. So it worked and boots up but now the phone no longer detects the battery. I have another Sony Arc and tested the cable and the battery. They both work fine on the other phone. I downloaded the flashtool 9.10.1 and a generic rom for North America 4.04 Ice cream sandwich. It flashed the phone and everything updated fine. The phone now says its Model LT15a, Android 4.0.4, build number 4.1.B.0.587, Kernel version 2.6.32.9-perf. The phone is still not connecting to the battery. So my question is this a firmware issue? or a physical issue with the phone? Any help, suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Did the repair guy flash the firmware?

I think that he flashed it since the phone went from being a LT15A to a LT15I. I was able to use the flashtool and get it back to a LT15A though. Do you think this might be a Firmware issue then?

It can be that he installed a older firware, that leads to battery issue.
If you got open bootloader try to flash a kernel with battery patch

Battery
So my phones boot loader is locked. Do you know of any threads that can give me a step by step how to replace my firm ware and kernal and or how to properly unlock the bootIoader? I have been looking at the jellybean firmware but it looks complicated to install. I am a total Noob and I am just getting lost looking at other links and treads?? Thank you
Try this

For another guide google "xperia arc testpoint"
Or you can google sony unlock and do it the official way. But you will lose drm.
I prefer the first, testpoint

LT18a - Upgrade Options - Bootloader locked

Hi all,
I own an LT18a which appears to be an LT18i equivalent? It's an Xperia Arc S, Central American GSM version.
It is SIM unlocked however it's made after 12W11 so I cannot unlock the bootloader. In the root status it says Bootloader Unlock is not allowed.
It is trapped on Android 2.3.4 which is horrible. No OTA available.
I am wondering what my options are, I have searched but seem to hit dead ends. Is there any alternate way to unlock the bootloader, I tried a few paid services but they said after 12W11 there is no support.
Can I install leaked 4.1 official firmwares like the UK one posted here via flash tool or can I not install anything except what is OTA (nothing at the moment).
Thanks in Advance
You can install via flashtool a ftf file
Also sony have given us a update to ICS 4.0.4
U may get it from PC companion Or a ftf file
I dont think there is a leaked 4.1 update
U may also root ur phone and then install Custom GB roms for locked bootloaders

You can update to Ice Cream Sandwich, Android 4.0.4, via PC Companion.
At the moment, there is no way for you to unlock the bootloader.
There are no 4.1 official firmwares for our phones, only the ones is xda-developers.
Thanks and thanks! 4.0.4 beats 2.3.4. I will upgrade, thanks everyone!
ICS 4.0.4 might be newer but I'd say that 2.3.4/2.3.7 GB is running much smoother on our devices, so I would not upgrade your phone, but it is your choice
