I was wondering is it possible to uses a new kernel without a custom rom? I've been running rooted stock since December because in way too picky and scared to go custom. I want to use a kernel that has better battery life and also has BLN support. Furthermore id like to know if it is safe to even switch kernels on gingerbread because our phone IS effected by the EMMC Brick Bug. I used Chainfire's app to check and my phone DOES have a bad EMMC chip. Thanks

Yes as long as its a gb kernal.

Yea I used a dark side kernel
For custom boot animation

Just tried every kernel Hydra has to offer and every one put my phone into a bootloop. Had to revert back to stock.
Any tips to get these working?

I just think some phones can take it, and some cant...thats all i can help

I used the OC/UV ov, kernel #2 from Hydra. It was working ok but made my keyboard really laggy.
Sent from my rooted Incrediblę
My keyboard is sometimes laggy but usually really fast. I've isolated the issue to the dictionary, I'm sure if auto suggest was off you wouldn't notice it.
Although, after using it for a day, the keyboard lag seems to have gone. Maybe it was repopulating or something.. no idea in this department.
Edit: these kernels are meant only for froyo

Does anyone know how to fix the auto rotation on the skyrocket port? And i dont mean disabling the auto rotation i want an actual fix for it.

No, there is no fix. When there is, the thread will blow up and you'll know.

lol...i wish...its pretty much the ONLY thing holding me back from using ICS

Yeah compile your own kernel

I think I saw somebody say they were working on a ICS kernel. Maybe it was eugine on twitter? Could be a misunderstanding. Anyways, nothing will fix that until we have the proper kernel. Shouldn't be too long though.

To be completely clear and specific, we need an ICS kernel made specifically for out phones (T989,T989D). The issue at hand is in all AT&T kernels when you flash them to our phone. IE the new ICS builds use the AT&T ICS kernel because it's official and can power the ROMs people were working on until we get our own.
run the driver as module
Is it possible to load the driver as a module if we had init script??
We could use the GB rotation sensor module and load it after the kernel boots...
Just an idea...
Hi,
Having been on JB for the last week and having tried many JB kernels (Trinity, Franco), they just don't seem to match the performance (and battery) of the stock kernel currently.
However, I absolutely need the color control features that come with these 3rd party kernels as my stock GN has a terrible yellow tint to it.
What I would like is if I could stay on the stock kernel while being able to alter my screen colors. I've tried to use the experimental Voodoo app that was test released a few months ago but it didn't seem to work.
Does anyone know of an app or something I could flash that can allow me to alter my colors on the stock kernel?
Any help would be appreciated.
Nope not possible . These files are apart of the custom kernels... and only the kernel has the ability to tweak the absolute color values. So the only way to get the color control is to flash back.

So, it wouldn't be possible to (theoretically) modify the stock kernel to just include said color tweaks, and nothing more?

Man would I love that.
Another annoyance with 3rd party kernels is that they slow down after a period of time and requires a reboot to speed it up again. So far, I'm back on the stock kernel and it's still flying after heavy use.

Everything slows down after a long period of not rebooting. Cache builds and the system needs a restart.

Less so with the stock kernel from my experiences. I have no issues with restarting my phone once in a while but doing it every few hours gets exhausting.

Few hours? No days yes... I've never had a kernel slow down within hours. That would be yours apps building cache... the kernel... ironically is what empties it.

So I installed Blazers ICS ROM and foudnd he battery life is pretty bad (discharging while the phone plugged in USB) So I think I decided to switch over to Blu Kubans ROM. Anything special I need to do other than Calks format all and flash?
No

use the wipe twice. That's what I do. Kuban is a kick ads rom
Make sure you are using Agat's recovery or you may end up getting a new phone

Yes I'd recommend that also. it's considered a safe recovery.
ok, on Agat's recovery, I think it came with my blazer rom. Looks like a crest in the bg I think. Also, on a somewhat unrelated issue, if I used better battery stats and find that power management service is keeping my phone from deep sleep, is that as easy as an uninstall or freeze in titanium backup or would I have to manually patch the ROM?
if I am on an ics rom, I am currently on the blue kuban. And I am running the safe clockworkmod can I nandroid back to gingerbread?
You can. But even tho it is safe per say. I've never tired it. I would use the EL26 direct boot kernel then restore your GB nandroid
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Is the direct boot kernel in the kernel repository?
Yes it is. I can't link atm I'm on my phone. The new agat kernel does have the command line that causes the bricks disabled. But like I said I haven't tried it yet so that's why I suggested you use the direct boot kernel

I already have the new safe cwm kernel installed. With the safe binaries.
Then you should be good to go. (and same here. Flashed it as soon as it came out)
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I safely just flashed back to gingerbread, from blue cuban. and I even nandroided back after a full wipe. PERFECT!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Nice. I'm going to have try for myself too. Lol btw did you not like blu kuban?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Both it and Agat's worked fine for me. Have flashed back and forth many times using each kernel.

Good to know that this can be done safely.
I'm thinking about switching back to Calkulin's GB 3.0 b/c Kakaotalk keeps on crashing on the Blu Kuban.

I had no mms or internet on Blu Kuban...Not 100 % if it was rom- but when I went back to Blend 3.0 GB - everything was fine. Now on Goodness ICS- no issues at all.(edit- mms send menu has gray on black menu-but works despite hard to see until colors fixed) But anyway- where did you find this cwm version? just an update on Google play mkt or elsewhere? It would be nice to have for future purposes..
