[Q] Flashing to another ICS - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

So I installed Blazers ICS ROM and foudnd he battery life is pretty bad (discharging while the phone plugged in USB) So I think I decided to switch over to Blu Kubans ROM. Anything special I need to do other than Calks format all and flash?

No

use the wipe twice. That's what I do. Kuban is a kick ads rom

Make sure you are using Agat's recovery or you may end up getting a new phone

Yes I'd recommend that also. it's considered a safe recovery.

ok, on Agat's recovery, I think it came with my blazer rom. Looks like a crest in the bg I think. Also, on a somewhat unrelated issue, if I used better battery stats and find that power management service is keeping my phone from deep sleep, is that as easy as an uninstall or freeze in titanium backup or would I have to manually patch the ROM?

Need help getting a Epic to run smooth......

So I rooted my boys epic and installed the ACS Frozen rom, everything seemed to be fast as hell for about a week but all the stock rom lag has returned..... so my question is what kinda setup are you guys using to keep a very smooth and fully functional setup going? I seed you don't have any AOSP roms that seem to be functioning at this time so what can I do to get this thing running like an AOSP rom? Thanks guys!

Ok, right after flashing the ROM did you flash the journal on zip? Also, are you/he rebooting once a day. If yes to both, try booting to recovery and wipe Cache partition and Dalvik cacke 3x and reboot.

Journal on zip ensures stability in case your battery dies or you drop the phone and the battery pops out. You can get bombarded with force closes or data corruption. Usually lag can occur from the cache filling up. That's why I recommended wiping it. Here is the journal on zip. Just boot to recovery and flash. You might as well wipe the cache and Dalvik to see if that fixes the lag also. So, wipe those and flash this zip...

If you are on SRF 1.2 with journal on and a Genocide kernel, you are using a really good Froyo setup. You can always grab the ACS Updater app from the Market and try one of the many good themes. The Gingerbread ROMs are all based off of the leak as we don't have the official yet but many people are having good results. Oh, almost forgot....there is a flashable add on Hotspot hack so you can use the Hotspot for free!!! it is in the Development section. Make sure you use the one specifically for SRF though

I had problems running Genocide for some reason, but Twilight runs perfect for me. Could try that too.

I have tried many of the leaked gingerbreads just to find that this or that doesn't work. The best that I have found for battery life and everything works is this rom.

All the info you need "should" be in the OP for the ROM. For instance SRF 1.2 requires you to also flash a kernel of your choice. Most ROMs are EXT4 these days but there are a few RFS ROMs out there. And almost all include a kernel. So if you want to try someone's recommended ROM for battery life, just remember to run several backups first, a nand and something like Titanium Backup.

I liked simply aosp, it was a good ROM. I ran the revolted kernel with it and got good battery life and performance. if u did triple wipes in cwm like u were supposed to, then it would be like starting a new ROM with nothing on it. Are u sure u flashed it right?
Edit: flashing roms on the epic is very similar to flashing them on the evo, minus the cool amon-ra recovery

When modding someone else's phone that it the kind of ROM you want. The one that makes some new graphics and keeps everything else the same. What launcher is on her phone? If it is still Touchwiz, get her to start using another launcher since a lot of ROMs remove twlauncher as bloat. I got ADW for my GF and I use Zeam. It will save you a homescreen nightmare.

well, as long as it works, then you're good to go. i always found that flashing without wiping data or restoring data from a previous flash has a tendency to cause issues with the rom later on. if u do have any problems, u may have to go back into cwm and wipe data as well as the cache and dalvik (3x/ea) then reflash your rom. but again, if it ain't broke... also, kenny said something about the touchwiz launcher... that launcher is included in the simply aosp rom under the "simply settings" app, as are the gingerbread launcher and the froyo launcher. i like touchwiz ok, i prefer the gingerbread launcher over that tho.

Urban precision v2 rom function problem

Ok, u guys know that last night I installed the urban precision v2 rom. The akward part is, it was working fine for awhile, and then a couple hrs later, I started having all kinds of problems. My phone froze up, no buttons wanted to work and it was rebooting all kinds of ways. Especially the fact it rebooted into cwm and then it also when into download mode. I had to pull the battery, go into cwm. Do a factory reset and restore my nandroid back to cleangb. Can this sudden issue be a problem with the rom or kernel? Plus when it was working fine with this rom at the begining, my phone was running super fast. I mean like no lag what so ever. So any idea what may caused this sudden issue? Cuz I honestly don't know.

Smooth and the battery life exceptional I have found that doing certain things I would do on other aosp and aokp based roms give me black screens then I have to re boot
like changing dpi and messing with tweeks in rom tool box.
Other than that this rom is refreshing
Thnak you

I'm assuming from reading the original post, it says it has Kobridge's init.d scripts baked in, so the KERNAL included in the ROM must already have that ability for those to work...

I'm sure this probably isn't your first time using odex me, but just in case, I remember it seems to take forever to complete. Like hit ok on reboot and odex.. Go make a sandwich (preferable a deluxe), come back to the phone and (depending on how many apps you have installed) eat the sandwich and you might get done eating before it's done... Forever,

Yeah I've used it several other times and it does take forever, but usually during reboots (thought I bricked on my first use). This time it just hung on the app screen saying it was going to reboot and I hadn't loaded any apps yet.
Made a sandwich during my nand reload though lol

Lol.. Good one.
I have had that happen to me one time as well. It turned out that the KERNAL I was trying to use it with didn't have init.d support. I'm not saying that is the case here, but generally (unless you're odex me app goes bad sitting on your SD card waiting for its next use) I don't believe the app is ROM specific. Build maybe(FE07/FE10 etc...)? I don't know.

flashed this earlier today from the stock unlocked plus kernel (coming from agat63's tfe10 rom), and upon rebooting i got an error stating lbe privacy guard couldn't start because it didn't have root access. then i tried loading up rom toolbox, and it too was borked.
so i went ahead and wiped data/cache and re-flashed the rom, but still i had no root. i wiped data again and flashed back to tfe10 and i was back in business.
bad download or rom not compatible with flashing from fe10 unlocked recovery?

The new safe clockworkmod recovery

if I am on an ics rom, I am currently on the blue kuban. And I am running the safe clockworkmod can I nandroid back to gingerbread?
You can. But even tho it is safe per say. I've never tired it. I would use the EL26 direct boot kernel then restore your GB nandroid
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Is the direct boot kernel in the kernel repository?
Yes it is. I can't link atm I'm on my phone. The new agat kernel does have the command line that causes the bricks disabled. But like I said I haven't tried it yet so that's why I suggested you use the direct boot kernel

Now on Goodness ICS- no issues at all.(edit- mms send menu has gray on black menu-but works despite hard to see until colors fixed) But anyway- where did you find this cwm version? just an update on Google play mkt or elsewhere? It would be nice to have for future purposes..
