[Q] Screen Off -> 2G / Screen On 3G - Possible? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Good evening Devs,
I have a small problem with tasker:
I can't activate the option for switching between 2G/3G Network....
So i rooted my Nexus and flashed a custom rom (Android REvolution) but it's still not available.
Is there a trick to activate it or do i need an init.d script, i don't know a lot about scripts for android but i will lern it if it's necessary
I apologize myself for my grammar errors

Just tested making a tasker script. Seems to be working.
Add profile - event - screen off
Add task - wait 10 minutes
Add task - mobile data 2g/3g - 2g only
You can add a similar task to turn 3g back on again (or make exit task function).
Swyped on my CM9 Galaxy Nexus

Nope sorry, it doesn't work..... tried this routine myself to often^^
On XDA is a thread with an Script that makes this possible, but you must flash it etc. and i don't want to flash this.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739530
So can't i make a script which switches between 2G and 3G?
Or is it absolutly impossible.... and that is what i'm reading the hole time

Juice Defender?

Juice Defender DISABLES the Network, but thats not what i want^^

I believe there is a 2G option? Haven't used it in a while though, could be wrong.
"Long is the way, and hard, that out of hell leads up to light."

The tasker script I mentioned earlier works for me.
Swyped on my CM9 Galaxy Nexus

Lots of roms have a "Power Savings" feature which can be configured to do this.

This should be working because it's working on my N1. I'm using a custom ics rom.

Not working for me
Task -> Net -> *Mobile Data 2G/3G , when selected a TOAST appears saying "Sorry, that action is unavailable on your device"
Rooted, stock 4.1.1...anyone know a fix?

Try AOKP
AOKP has this option and works well for me....AOKP M5.

Maybe tasker isn't updated for JB yet?
Or Google has made the security around switching harder (like they did with gps).

Same here, I'm still running stock 4.1.1, I'm wondering if CM9 or ICS AOKP fix that missing feature of the stock rom.
Does CM10 / AOKP JB preview fix it also?
I'm just wondering, in case someone already knows about it.
If not, I guess I'll have to test myself and report.
I really miss that feature, I actually bought Tasker like a week before buying my Galaxy Nexus, I bought it for using that feature on my previous phone, and it's disappointing that stock JB would not provide this setting...

Well, this post is quite old and I've changed numerous ROMs till then. This was the feature in AOKP m5 then, but not sure whether it exists in AOKP builds of 4.2.2.....also I am using CM right now and haven't flashed AOKP for a while so I can't assist you on where to find 2G/3G auto toggle. Not sure even it does exist or not.

Ah no worries. Have read that when 3g signal is good it is actually better to have 3g on as it has low power states. Thanks though.

Look for a Cataclysm ROM, it has that option

Avoiding custom roms, tried over 10, only stock gets me very good battery life
It's not a feature in ICS, if you don't want a custom ROM you're out of luck.
That said, I'm not sure I see the value of it. What do you use it for?

I also no longer see the value considering the specs of this phone.
I tried to Custom ROMs - AOKP and SLIM ICS. And both ROMs have customizable Navigation buttons. You can set Kill App function on any Nav button (short press or long press).
I use that feature very much.
If I won't be playing a game, I just kill it.
I believe this same battery a little and doesn't require much effort.
try using conservative governor, it gave me much more battery time on my nexus since it spends more time at lower clock than the standard ondemand and interactive governor

Thank You ... but this and other "alternatives" are no answers ... I think every user know, why he wants to have such long-pressing-back-button-feature (and now, please don't say we have not understand the OS memory intention etc.) ...
I am also looking for ... have you seen a little app/ script which implements this feature on a rooted ICS mobile phone?

i also want that feature, as there are more and more games, that keep running in the background and come up with "sales-notification", "reminder to play" or whatever...to avoid this, i always need to go into apps-settings and kill them after playing, otherwise i get these annoying notifications... :-\
CM9 have that feature too. I do see the point of having it if you use some apps that will wakelock your phone (i.e. Facebook), and the only way to fix it is to kill the app (hold back is quicker then going into recent apps and swipe it away).
Either you use a custom rom, or you don't get it. End of story.

why do so many people think, that swiping apps out of the recent apps list does stop them from running? they are just taken out of the list, but if they are still running, they still do after swiping them away, no matter if shown in the list or not!
try it with one. check if it's running, take it out of recents list and check again...

why? - what developers of custom roms can do, also developers of a single kill-back-button-app/ script can do for rooted phones ... I don't want to use Cyanogen only for that feature/ reason.

That's a very useful and helpful answer.
Anything you can get in a custom ROM, you can have in a stock ROM. It just takes someone to implement it. If no one has implemented it yet, assuming there is enough interest, someone will...
I have kanged it before into stock, built from src.

You can only have this option on AOKP / GUMMY and non-official rom porting by aokp.
The best rom i use is gummy, AOKP got some problem with connection...
And gummy has good tweaks that doesn't have aokp, and aokp has very great stuff that gummy doesnt have...
But gummy is very stable on the connection.

That's not exactly what I'm asking. I know it does do that though. I have tried CM9, APEX, AOKP(current), Paranoid Android, Codename Android, and JellyBean.
I just want to know how I can do this(like remove the Softkeys entirely or create a toggle) when I find a Rom that looks interesting that doesn't support the feature.
I dont own the Nexus but on my Galaxy Tab I have Galaxy Task 14 rom and it comes with an called "Hide Bar". It hides the Honeycomb soft keys. You should give this app a try and I think you have to be rooted.

you named more or less all custom ROMs you will need to ask the dev to implement it, i think. don't that there is an app solution or sth like that.
Am I mistaken, or is this a feature that is readily available in certain ROMs? You're talking about getting rid of the Back/Home/Recents, allowing full 720p glory, right? I'm trying to remember.. I want to say it would definitely be a feature on Paranoid Android, where you can hold the power button to enable/disable the soft keys (it was one of the icons at the top). Hopefully this helps.. Paranoid Android is the way to go if you absolutely need some certain kind of crazy/abnormal setup. (I really want to use it more than I do.. until this phone no longer is my primary contact number.)

There are many ICS Roms that I wanna try(not switching to JB yet. tried it and I'll let devs toy with it more) that doesn't support it to "maintain" the experience of stock.
And I have seen that honeycomb app. It only works for Honeycomb.
On the LMT thread there is a full screen toggle app that let's you hide the soft keys with one cluck. Its called fullscreen. apk.

OK I found it but it doesn't seem to work for AOKP(I Know, it already has a toggle, just testing before I switch over).
Does it only work when there is no toggle built in???
EDIT1: NVM I figured out that u must reboot for the toggle to have any effect.
It works though.

I'm getting irritated of all features in AOKP.
I don't know why but the features are really irritating me.
I've decided to go stock and move with the fastest and most battery efficient Rom.
The Redemption Rom.
And lemme tell u it's fast.
And actually I do use the built in softkey mod feature. Just fed up with the lags and many features(dunno why, I was getting mad though every time I used my phone).

Q: When group messaging with GO SMS PRO (only app I know of that works with iPhone's for group chat) after a few minutes my group messages disappear and all I see are random single digit numbers instead of my contacts with the conversations separated in them. Only occurs for group messages, not individual messaging. Why is this? Something to do with data stability? I'd take an SS, but I cleared all of them earlier. When it happens again I'll take an SS.

1) Because AOKP isn't touchwhiz
2) Flash stock rom if you want that option.
noob question
hey all i have a question or 2.
1- what is the difference between Sammy (Kernel), and AOKP Task & Ktoonsez Run train (rom) ?
2- do you flash AOKP Task & Ktoonsez Run train (rom) then Sammy (Kernel) ?
yeaaa i know stupid noob question but i guess we all have to start some where.
thanks for understanding.
Bluetooth to headunit
so I'm running latest aokp by task650 &ktoonsez for my sgs3 att, so the issue is when i use poweramp (latest version available on play store) it wont send track info to my head unit, i had someone suggest to go to misc - tweaks and enable both Bluetooth options but i tried that and still just says stop on the head unit. anybody have any ideas? it worked fine in stock rom.
Still having issues with aosp cam with task and ktoonsez aokp rom. The camera works with other camera apps like 360 camera and ucam but not the aosp cam. The exact symptom is that the app will always freeze within 10 seconds of the app opening no matter if i touch the phone or not. The zoom slider never appears and I'm unable to interact with the app like changing the settings or anything.
I have tried numerous flashes including every version release so far. I always do a factory reset in cwm, delete cache partition, dalvik cache, and format system. I've also used the cwm flashable camera fix that is posted in both at&t development forums. In a last ditch effort I went back to stock, performed a factory reset from there insuring that my phone was a complete clean slate and the aosp camera app still didn't work when installing fresh aokp with no apps or any settings changed at all in the rom.
I'm at a loss here as the default cam app works in cm9 and cm10 but I want my aokp damn it!

[DEV][MOD][JB] T-Mobile Wi-fi Calling

A while ago, I downloaded a nandroid someone posted from their T-Mobile Galaxy Note II to see if I could pick it apart for wi-fi calling, but I don't use it so I can't really test it and I lost interest. Now, I've packaged up the Wifi Calling app with all of the libs it came with and added in the build.prop from the zip. It might be a lot more than what is needed, but I don't want to have to keep uploading bits and pieces. If you think you have an idea of what you're doing and want to try it out, go for it. I don't really know much about wi-fi calling at all so unless you have some sort of logcat, I'll be of little to no use to you at all. I guess that's about it...
You can use the ics wi-fi calling package to help you out by possibly using it as a reference/using parts/etc.
FOUND HERE
And here is what I've extracted from that 1GB+ package.

Hm... by the looks of it, it would seem that these are only settings for Wi-Fi calling. So it would seem that you'd have to mod the settings apk to have the option for WiFi calling settings. :/ I'll look into elgins (CM10) source sometime to see if I can add it in. If I can at least get the app starting somewhere, it will be easier for everyone else to debug/fix it up. If anyone has messed with the note 2 and can confirm that WiFi calling is accessed via settings and not launcher (app) that would be helpful as well.

I'm thinking the setting could be added in way that is similar to this:
https://github.com/SyNtheticNightma...mmit/bfac7c05daab9f6294f7419ea6173c4a1c569092
Though I don't know the exact name of the package for the wi-fi calling settings... I'd need to decompile it to find that out (unless you know another way, I'm not too familiar with apks). I could also try whipping up an icon for this if you need one.

Sorry for a late reply (haven't had the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 (SGH-T889) so long...
Wifi Calling settings are located under Settings / More settings /
And includes two items: Wi-Fi Calling (this is to enable/disable with a check box), and, Wi-Fi Calling Settings (This offers Connection Preferences [Wi-Fi Preferred / Wi-Fi Only / Cellular Preferred}, and, Help)
For reference, the above menu structure/selections are based on Stock F/W 4.1.1, Build Number JRO03C.T889UVALL4
Is this still a work in progress or has it died?
it sure died.. adding wifi calling to JB has been a task for over a year..no dev has been able ot make this work...so sad.

Just prepping, I want to do the most stable paranoid android build out and get into some phablet action. Where can I get the install files for the 3/15 version, it sounds like thats the most stable at this point, any suggestions or points to the contrary, but most importantly where can I find the basic files for the 3/15 and whatever else you need to get from stock ui to PA... Any tips are so greatly appreciated, seriously. XDA love..
Just need to be pointed in the right direction, need full camera/main functions to maintain functionality so whats the way to go for stable tablet style PLEASE HELPPP, LOL

S3 lockups and LTE?
Hi
I put this on my GS3 (I747 AT&T) last night and so far it's pretty good.
I have noticed some weird occasional lockups and reboots, which is find for unofficial rom, I know what I'm getting into.
My other issue is that it seems to prefer 3G, HSDA, or HSDA+ over LTE even though I'm in a market with extensive LTE coverage. Is there any way to "weight" this?
Also the on-screen soft keys seem redundant, is there a way to disable them without disabling the status bar (PIE mode hides both)?
Thanks!

Lockups and reboots are kernel related you can try flashing another kernel (or wait for an update) I use this. It's the 4/09 All-Star Devs Kernel. You have to make sure if you flash a kernel not to go any newer than 4/09/13 or it won't work this this ROM until it gets updated.
Make sure your APN settings are correct, make sure LTE is selected in your settings and if all else fails do a Speed Test to check your speeds.
You can disable Nav Bar (Bottom) Settings > Hybrid Properties > Nav Bar 0% Apply and reboot if it prompts for it.

Awesome, thanks for the advice, I'll give it a shot!
Actually, I have noticed the same thing for me, only in the past two days.. Specifically: random sleeps of death with no regularity, and when trying to use Spotify, or I Heart Radio when plugged into my headphones (Samsung set that came with the phone) phone will not play music through the app, but it will work just fine when plugged into an aux cable... I have changed nothing in my kernel settings, or system settings since things settled down.
Very strange.
Thanks I was having some problems that kernel seem to fix them.

i'm just curious, but does anyone know why the PA team doesn't have an official ROM for our d2att version? (or am i just missing it somewhere?)

Afaik pa only officially supports nexus devices. Everything else is unofficial I think.

tablet ui statusbar clock size
Is there anyway to change the clock size and position of the date in tablet ui. The giant clock and date rilling off the edge is a deal breaker for me and this ROM. I've searched everywhere I know of and would apprieciate any advise. Thanks

Yup only nexus devices and now the Oppo Find 5 are supported other devices are not supported. Someone has ported Paranoid Android over to unofficial devices.

What do the instructions mean by "update recovery"?
Thanks!
I'm on the latest version of Paranoid Android. I've been experiencing this weird noise. It happens when the phone is placed down or just the screen turning on or off. In the video, it sounds like I'm placing the phone down with some force but I've activated the sound even when putting it down super gently.
Here's the video:

If anyone can tell me how to disable this noise or what causes it, I would be greatly appreciative!

Simple answer:
The instructions are simply telling you to make sure that you have the most recent recovery for your device is installed, and if not, to install it. Oftentimes not having an updated recovery is what causes the Status 7 errors when trying to flash new ROMs.

Uhm, that is odd? Though it sounds like it might be the notification sound of the microsd card disengaging and re-engaging?
Just a thought.
I read in the PA development thread that ATT and TMO roms are.interchangeable. Has anybody tried flashing the T-Mobile PA onto their ATT s3?

Other than the updated kernel and displays drivers there is no difference in roms. Regardless if it'll work it won't give you anything you don't already have.
