Just pay for it like everyone else does LOL most of the providers of the service are fast and reliable.. cellunlocker.net did mine and it was seamless.
I called up TMobile and asked them the unlock code saying I am going to Europe on vacation and want to use the local sim card there. They emailed me the unlock code next day.

no need to be an @$$H0L3 .... i was just asking if it was possible as other Samsung Galaxy S/S2 have the possibility of Unlock. If it was possible why pay the extra 20-30$ for the unlock? It was a question, a simple yes or no, which the answer already was given would have sufficed. Thanks.

Every T-Mobile ROM is compatible with our phone. Rooting, there is a thread on development for that, and unlocking you need to pay for that service. There is no way to do it through software like the original Galaxy S Vibrant.

Not true! You can simply call customer service and request an unlock code. Sometimes customer service reps don't know the policies, so you may need to ask to talk to a manager or to tech support.
Tell them that you are planning to leave the country soon and want to unlock your phone so that you can use a foreign prepaid SIM, or something to that effect. Keep in mind that you have to have been a customer for 45+ days, or be a prepaid customer for 60+ days with a balance on your account of at least $10.

Yea IDK if this will work on Telus, but knowing their rap sheet - i HIGHLY doubt it.
$50 in store, $50 over the phone. They'll just add it to your bill, cheaper to go to any of the unlocking sites on the internet.

Total noob question, they ask for your imei number, can they do anything untoward with that info to cause havoc with one's account?
Hello
I've been searching this forums for the past two hours searching for a clear answer to my question but I haven't found anything accurate.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S III sgh-t999v bought from Wind in Canada and I have know left the country for Europe.
when I bought the phone I was told that it was unlocked but when I try using my new sim it keeps telling me I need an unlock code.
What I would like to know is if my phone can be unlocked to be used here in Europe without the unlock code?
Does flashing/rooting my phone makes it unlocked?
I appreciate any help/answers to my problem.
Thank you guys.

No. Rooting your phone does not gsm unlock it. Either call your carrier and ask for the unlock code .. or pay online for one.

Like crisis stated just call your carrier and ask for an unlock code... Your account has to be in good state I believe. Or else pay.

The reason I ask is I was looking into getting out of my Sprint contract ( too expensive due to change in financial situation, slow 3G etc) by paying ETF of 350$.
The thing is what do I then do with the sprint galaxy S3? I could unlock it but who would buy an unlocked sprint galaxy S3? Can it be used in India?
Thanks a lot for any answers.

You can always sell it on Craigslist or eBay (without unlocking it), I think. If it's in good condition, you should still be able to get a decent amount for it.
Yes you could sell it. I would not recommend Craigslist though, a lot of fraud going on recently
Make sure you advertise that it has a clean ESN
And it could potentially be used in India if there are CDMA carriers in whatever area you want to send it to, or would require flashing though
And idk where you're getting this "unlocked bootloader" thing...Samsung bootloaders come unlocked by default, that's why they're so easy to root
Thanks for the replies. I am not talking about unlocking bootloader. I am talking about carrier unlocking.
Has anybody used a sprint galaxy S3 in India?

Oh sorry, I thought i read "bootloader" somewhere in there
But yes, you could unlock and flash it to a carrier in India. It would basically be the same as flashing to Boost or an American carrier just that you would need a donor phone on an Indian CDMA carrier to pull the info from
Hello i live in the Netherlands and got an at&t locked device. I called at&t but they won't unlock it for me because im not an at&t customer.
Any at&t user here willing to unlock it for me? The phone is out of contract so it's free to unlock for at&t customers, all can be done online.

They only offer the unlock service to existing or formal att customers... Since att is not in the Netherlands i can't do anything . I wanted this the legal way, but without luck. The phone is 3 years old. But no problem I'll unlock it at a phone shop here, i don't mind paying for it i just thought some fellows here wanted to earn a few quick bucks for the effort for me.
If you flash the J2 modem you can unlock the phone. It takes longer to download than it takes to unlock.
