[Q] DZ Tablet Launcher - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do I have any chances installing and using a tablet launcher on my Desire Z. Currently running: ILWT 1.8.0 Kernel, ILWT-CM7-20120516 ROM with 150dpi.
I'm desperately looking for a DZ compatible tablet launcher and Play store does not let me install any. It says "Not compatible with Desire Z" or similar.
What to do?

Hmm this might solve the launcher part: here, or you can try to search for a Honeycomb build in the dz android development forums. I don't think you can install the launcher as an app itself though, dependencies might be missing.
Anyway, wouldn't a tablet launcher be too small to see haha?

TouchWiz (Galaxy S UI) and Stock-UI for Stock Z

Hi guys,
since i will get my DesireZ next week, i am already searching for toys to play with on it
One thing i am wondering and i want to try out is:
1) Will i be able to turn off sense completely WITHOUT ROOTING/Flashing any other rom?? I think i read something, that HTC removed the Stock Android launcher, so.....is it possible to reinstall it by any apk??
2) Same question with Samsungs TouchWiz-Launcher - is there any apk i can install on a NON-ROOTET Z (without flashing) to run TouchWiz on it??
May sound stupid perhaps, but i guess i won´t root the phone the first few weeks, but i like to play around with Themes/Launchers/"Eyecandy", so i was wondering if any of the two points (or both) are possible
Thanks 4 Info,
BigD
You can install another launcher 'On Top' of sense, but Sense will not be removed, and will continue to run in the background. A few popular options are Launcher Pro and ADW (free versions) or Launcher Pro Plus and ADW EX (Paid)
The downside to this is that it will likely slow the device even further (before I rooted my Desire Z, I did notice some lag on the device, likely because of the stock Sense ROM)
Not sure about TouchWiz options, but after my experience with Samsung I avoid it like the plague =P
i know about these 3rd party launchers and that Sense will always run in background (sadly)
But is there a possibility to bring up stock Android launcher??? (APK or something?)
And/or is there a APK wit Touchwiz??
Yes there is an Touchwiz apk, just search the desire forum and youll finde one

Ok, i trust you if you post this here, that the APK will also work on my Z next week
And what about Stock Android Launcher??? (only thing i found until now was "Gingerbread launcher" - but is the stock-launcher really not in the stock Z ROM????)
No the stock Launcher isnt in the stock DZ rom. But u can use Gingerbread Launcher as u said b4 or pull the stock launcher apk from cm6 or any vanilla 2.2 rom
PS: Its another Forum, but there is the Touchwiz apk posted i used for testing on my dz http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/133164-galaxy-s-touchwiz-launcher-enjoy.html

[Q] HTC Wildfire 2.3 with sense ROM ?

Hi there..yes im a new guy ¬_¬.
So I want to root my wildfire (i know how to do it). The problem is i like HTC Sense and the new version that came for the 2.3 devices, iv'e been looking around for a bit trying to find a Sense rom on 2.3 and have so far failed.
1) Are there any 2.3 Sense ROMs out there for the wildfire?
2) If not are there any themes that mimic Sense for CyanogenMod 7? (I would prefer if the 'people' and 'message' apps looked like sense to because i dont want to open them and find that it look different to sense.) (Also if ii was to do this i presume that i wouldn't be able to keep the HTC widgets so would there be anyway to add them in?)
3)If the above just isn't available id prefer to stay on the stock 2.2.1 sense rom, how could i overclock with it? (i understand it has something to do with replacing a kernel but i don't know how to do this.)
Thank you in advance.
Yes, you are new and you obviously haven't looked properly. -.-
1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1067868
2) Not possible to get Sense Apps to Non - Sense ROMs like Cyanogenmod
3) Replacing a kernel is the same as installing a ROM. Place kernel Zip on SDCard, Reboot into Clockworkmod Recovery, Select Install Zip from SDCard, select kernel Zip, done.
Well i did look and saw that and was a bit too unfinished for me but thanks anyway.
Looks like i'll probably replace the kernel to overclock and see if anything new will come out or possibly move to CM7.
Don't forget to take a nandroid backup before moving to CM7, so you can easily revert if CM's messaging, contacts, camera app etc dont suit you.

[Q] Stock google roms

Sorry if this is a noob question but I did quite a bit of searching and could not find anything.
Is it possible to install stock google roms on a DZ? I would really like to install the latest version then have it update itself by OTA. My phone is rooted and currently running Cyanogen Mod 7.1.
Thanks!
Id stick with cm7 from my personal experience its close to stock android Rome and it runs remarkably well

Yes, it is possible to run stock android roms on a DZ, there are several different variants out there right now. Just for example there's virtuous g-lite (look in the dev section or on virtuous' homepage) which is currently on version 2.3.5 I believe. A more up-to-date rom seems to be this one: 2.3.7 (please read the op, some issues still remain).
Though, as far as I know, you will not be able to receive OTAs as these are pushed to your phone by your carrier. If you want to receive OTAs on a DZ you will have to revert back to a stock sense rom.
Any ROM that works on the G2 works on the Desire Z (as long as you are rooted and S-Off, which you obviously are if you are on CM7). So if you want, just go to the Developement section and you will find pre-rooted versions of the G2 AOSP ("stock Google") ROMs. But make sure the ROM is pre-rooted. If you install an "official" ROM that is not pre-rooted, you will lose root, and need to go through the whole process again.

Need Vanilla rom

Pleas guys. I hate all these modded roms. So sluggish. I want the normal 2.3.5 rom that was on my desirehd before the root that downgraded it. The only thing i want as a bonus is the root capability. So let me clarify
I want HTC Desire HD 2.3.5 with the sense 3 (4.12.x) but to be capalbe to run root apps recovery etc etc. pleas i cant stand cyanogenmod Its like having a new phone

I think you should change the name of your topic...
Vanilla is used in android when the build is from google source or cyanogen's source, this is known as an AOSP build... (=>No Sense)
What you want is a "stock" rom with root, right?
The most popular GB roms with sense is:
LeeDrOid HD, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056727
and
Android Revolution HD, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040
Which one to use is up to you...

Crash Bandicoot no longer showing in Play Launcher.

After installing a game that was converted with PSPXperia, it's no longer showing Crash Bandicoot. Even after uninstalling the game that was converted with PSPXperia.
I've tried uninstalling the Xperia Play Launcher app and Crash Bandicoot and re-installing it through Titanium Backup. No luck.
Edit:
I'm contemplating giving up on this stock ROM anyway. Only reason I kept it was for the launcher. Any ROM recommendations? What would be the best without any loss in functionality and still runs PSx games and such well?
Tried restoring the Crash Bandicoot APK from my CWM backup, still no luck...

Did you remove the PSXperia game? Is it showing up in your launcher or in the PS pocket app? If you wanted a new rom and you have a locked bootloader I would use Xperia NXT v1.2 If not I would look into flashing a custom kernel and trying out one of the ICS builds like FXP or AOKP.

Indeed, I removed the PSPXperia game before doing all this, after realising that Crash Bandicoot, nor the PSPXperia game were showing in the Xperia Launcher app.
It's showing up in the app drawer; it's just not showing up in the Xperia Launcher app. Don't think I have access to the PS Pocket app, due to it being r800x with Verizon and whatnot.
I do have an unlocked bootloader, which of those two ROMs would be ideal for gaming?
Edit:
I read something about a "GB True Ancestor" ROM, what's that about?

The NXT rom is a Gingerbread rom that looks like the new Xperia theme. It is great for gaming and is a fast rom. I used the True Ancestor rom in the past and it was great, but was lacking some visual features I enjoyed from the NXT rom. I am currently using AokPlay and it has had great gaming performance, despite it being ICS. I primarily used FPSE for playstation gaming and on ics it has full touchpad support.

Would there be any way to get the True Ancestor ROM to work on CDMA, or is it GSM only?
Thanks for all the help, by the way,
Also, I tried to update the baseband version while still on 2.3.3 and now wireless doesn't work. Which files am I supposed to flash for the baseband? I assumed it was all that were omitted when I unchecked "baseband" in flashtool.

I don't have a CDMA device, so I'm not entirely sure. There are a few roms available for the r800x, though. I would flash the AOKP Rom and the specified kernel. There is a CDMA fix for it in the download links. I am using the linaro build and it is overclocked to 1.6, it is superfast. The only downside is that I cant get the Crash apk to work with the rom.
