I need your Help please.
I have a Sensory Hearing Defecit, A Hearing Loss. The Audio Ouput of a Device is critical to me, I am 62, and because of some health issues I thrive (survive) off my Smartphone. I also have had Cataract Surgery, and so Display is also of paramount importance as well.
I currently have a Motorola Atrix2, which has been very problematic, basically a piece of Junk, and Im on AT&T. However Audio Output on The A2 is incredible and the Display is beautiful. Crisp and Clean, and excellent Contrast.
I am looking at the HTC One X and the S-3. I need to establish which of these 2 are closest to the Audio Output of the A2.
The Audio Output in "db" from the speakerphone, in call, speakerphone, ect and Media Player. Unfortunately the Retail Stores all have the devices tethered in such a way that it is hard to compare. I went to a AT&T store which happened to have a Note and OneX tehered next to each other, so I tried to compare with my Atrix2. It was difficult if not impossible to judge.
The Display on the OneX next to the Note was like a DreamCatcher, Unbelievably Clean, Crisp and Awesome, but the Audio out put seemed less than my A2, and the Note appeared "Louder"
I am not asking for help to pick a phone, however any guidance would be appreciated. I need to know how the HTC OneX and the Samsung S-3 compare in Audio output to the Motorola Atrix2.
Whenever people get in a jam, Ive been told, go to XDA, they know whats going on, and they have real world solutions that work. I hope someone who has access to the information I need will help. GSM Arena and Phone Arena are one of the Few sites that use db measuring equipment in their reviews, unfortunately my emails to them have gone unanswered.
The review On the OneX and S-3 on XDA was awesome, This site is awesome as well! I tried to email Dan from Mobilsyrup, who did the review, but couldnt come up with a email address. I truly hope someone can help me out.
Thank you- Larry
I am not sure did you saw on the gsmarena rewiews this Speakerphone test:

HTC One S 65.1 64.6 76.7 Average

Having in call voice max is pretty much like its on speaker, other people in the room can hear, I have to have mine on 50%.
Also gsmarena is biased, they say the one x doesn't have gorilla glass and the s3 does when they both have it, I wouldn't trust it at all.

Yeah, since GSMarena becomes a popular phone website they probably sell misinformations to the competition ... but they cant lie about everything
And you are right, mine speaker is also on 50-60%.
Thank you for the response, I have looked everywhere to try to get the Audio Specs on my Atrix2, so I can compare, (to no avail).

I dont know if your familiar with the Atrix2? if So, How does it compare in Audio Output.
Thank you for your help!

After 1 month with Desire HD, I think i like it but there are these 3 things that are really annoying:
1. Camera:
Very limited functionality/adjustment.
Small sensor (my guess) -> can't get a good picture of moving subject (I am not talking about lighting fast moving subject, just for example baby movement).
2. Video:
Very limited file formats can be played back.
Third party players (rockplayer, vplayer) can play some but still not all, especially mkv...very very very laggy.....
Lagging can also occasionally occur during playback of some avi/divx too?
3. Sound/speaker:
This is the worst.
I am comparing the above with the Samsung Galaxy S........quite disappointed.
so here is my 2 cents question:
Does anyone know whether a firmware upgrade can fix the above issues or it's more like a hardware things?
Is it possible that we can use/port the Samsung Galaxy S Camera/Video/Sound firmware/apk on the Desire HD to improve it??????
Many Thanks in advance
There are quite a few threads round here regarding the camera. Have you tried adjusting the ISO? Having it set on "Auto" is a recipe for disaster, the same goes for the white balance.
Check to see if there are any OTA updates available.
You are right. The Desire HD is the biggest piece of crap I've ever used. Unfortunately Telus gave it to me as a replacement while my Galaxy S is being repaired.
Sound is godawful. I hooked up my quality headphones to the Desire HD and can't get any real volume. The sound is completely garbled and half the lyrics are not understandable. I've tried stock settings, using the Dolby and using SRS as well as playing with the equalizer. The sound just plain sucks. It is totally unusable. I'm not an audiophile so I'm perplexed that nobody else has mentioned these issues. Or perhaps there is a solution I'm not aware of.
Second really annoying problem is that I can't delete hotmail emails... they just pop back on the next sync. What gives?
I seriously don't understand how HTC expects to thrive when they put out crap like this. Doesn't anybody believe in quality anymore? Maybe my expectations are just too high, the iphone JUST WORKS and Samsung's Galaxy was a beautiful implementation of Android. Guess I'll just have to wait for my Galaxy to get back or buy the new SGSII. Having an original HTC Diamond and now the problems with the Desire HD, I swear this company should be bankrupt. I'll never pay for one of their phones again.
I agree with seamus24. My friend has Samsung galaxy S II and checked the sound quality. It really better then Desire HD. Is HTC listening ????

Sorry to admit as an avid user of HTCs...the DHD camera is not as good as the Desire, just remember that megapixels is not everything...noise control on the Desire is excellent, overall producing better photo than DHD. I jumped the ship after playing with the SGS2...camera is very low noise, super sharp...also offered 1080 recording as well...
The video player is limited by copyrights and licenses for format playbacks etc and obviously hardware of the DHD. Not to blame, in most cases it can play converted 720 videos without too much issues with the exclusion of MPEG formats IIRC.
Speakers, well that was **** a bit ****, I still firmly believe that the Desure was a better phone, the audio quality on it I believe was better, in comparison again to the SGS2, well there is no competition...DHD<Desire<SGS2
@OP, even if porting was possible, I fear that the archilles heels is based on the actual hardware of the camera, processor (CPU and GPU) and speaker. All of which cannot be changed or upgraded. There is only so much firmware updates can enable slight improvements. Whilst CPU can be OCed, I believe I read from fellow DHD DEV LordClockan that the GPU on the DHD cannot be OCed. Speakers, even with the enhancement from BEATS, very little can be done through software equalisers...trust me, there are people *****ing and moaning about how bad the SGS2 sound quality in comparison to SGS at the SGS2 XDA Forum...they dont actually know how bad DHD is then...but still...borrowing a DHD at the moment...missed SenseUI hahaha...

I'm assuming that's a blu-ray rip you're trying to play on your device? or just another .mkv file (for the quality of picture you get on it)
I tried playing 'Avatar' 2.26GB - blu-ray ripped to a mkv file. Had to take the battery out to restart the phone. I work for a telco, so I tried it on several other DHDs - same result.
Worked like a charm on the SGSII though. I'm assuming, the DHD can only do so much.
Hi guys, i want to buy htc one v. requirements are quite normal.

2. Video recording is awesome and pictures are quite good..
3. Music sound ofc BEATS AUDIO but loudspeaker is just decent...FM Radio is perfect...
The only issue I have is Death Grip, but it is very annoying. Hope in a sw solution...
cool
ok cool..
yeah..i have seen some of the threads with death grip and their solution.
So, only couple thing which are still bothering me are the yellow spot and light leak.
I will be buying the htc one v from local shop. so i can check for these problems.
the question is HOW? is there any specific way i can check for yellow spot? cause light leak from screen can be identified (from touch buttons and near usb plugin)
i also heard that htc ppl said, there was problem with first few batches of mobiles and then these problems were resolved. So, anyone from India here who bought this piece recently..can you confirm your device does not have these issues?
thanks in advance..
I have no complaints about this phone. It leaks light a little from the USB port but only someone looking for it in the dark would notice.

I'll just be talking about software since I have the t328w, brother of the One V (same exact specs, better design IMO) but here:
PROS:
+VERY fast and fluid UI
+Very Nice Screen (Colour and sharpness wise)
+ICE CREAM SANDWHICH
CONS:
-Beats® Audio is the most overrated POS ever, sorry, but I am sort of an audiophile, and sadly even my iPod touch has better sound quality, it just makes the music more louder with increased Bass (but not THAT much either), and the music through beats (or I guess through this phone) has no atmosphere, it sounds to flat, and equalizers only make it worse by muffling out sounds while increasing others
-Camera is only so so, quality is good, but not great, same with video camera, and night shots are just horrible
-Emulators have sound issues (both Gameboid and Snesoid)
-Not that powerful in general (atleast for the specs it has) when it comes to gaming performance, though quadrant performance is amazing (even though the score I get it ~1400, but it feels like it should be atleast ~1850

i have htc one v and there are no problems with it.:d
No review site ever complained of deathgrip and gsmarena.com specifically tested for it. My phone doesn't have this problem. I've had it for over a month now and have never dropped a call, even here in Cambodia where the system is less than perfect. But a couple people here say they do.
I think calling the problem deathgrip is an exaggeration, if it even exists in the One V.
With my phone, wifi receptivity does change depending upon the position of the device, but this is common to many other small devices and is only a nuisance when on the edge of the signal's reasonable range.
Edit: Forgot to mention that I really like my One V and have no buyer's remorse. It's a great device.

On Beats +1. It's a junk gimmick that ruins the sound, especially if you listen to anything beside rock or rap.
On the camera, I don't agree. For the price range, it's a very good snapper. No camera phone or point & shoot camera does well in low light.

Hey i was wondering what's up with the Beats on the HTC one X, is it just marketing or do you get beats Earphones with the one X?
Also does one x have USB on-the-go and a feature like S beam (300mbps)
Beats is just an EQ setting, no headphones this time round.
As for S-Beam it does have WiFi direct which is used by S-Beam anyway just no quick NFC pairing.
s beam claims to transfer at 300mbps, does the wi fi direct on the one x that fast?

Beats adds no value over a 3rd party eq etc. and is otherwise just a marketing have.
The headphones that come with the HTC one X belong in the Bin along with all the other stock headphone that come with any other device.
Think it depenfs on your carrier, I got beats with vodafone ireland.

Whilst I have binned every set of ear/head phones that came with something, I actually don't mind these earphones that came with my HOX from vodafone Australia. Naturally they don't kill good individually bought units but if one doesn't have another set of ear/head phones, someone could save some dollars and use these stock earphones.

I agree - my uk hox came with alright headphones (best stock headphones I've EVER had). I personally think beats sounds alright as well (even though it is just a software ting); , of course, you're an audiophile and can be bothered re-EQing for every single different song you listen to. I've produced and recorded a couple of albums so don't consider myself 'deaf' and but maybe I'm just not that fussed about studio quality sound when I'm on my way to work...
I think it can be taken with a pinch of salt, and everyone will have different hearing thresholds. There's far too many web sites that dive far too in depth into chipsets, and the like and basically rip a phone apart. Unfortunately the average consumer enthusiast like ourselves, will take this information on board and choose a phone based on these supposed facts.
At teh end of the day, if one sounds better to you than the other, go buy it. most stores have a live testing device or a few, so take your headphones and play some tunes on them. Only then can you decide what is best for your ears, not anyone elses.
Let's face it, we've come a long way from carrying a phone and separate mp3 player
Yea i doubt S beam can get to 300mbps but it would still be fast than standard WIFI Direct in other phones
Also GSMarena says that the HTC one X doesn't have Image stabilization Built in, is that true?
Vodafone austria here and mine did come with Beats by Dr. Dre

A friend brought an unlocked One X in the UK just a few weeks after it was launched and he did get the Beats headphones... I think HTC has stopped bundling the special headphone now.
As said beats is just dynamic compression with slight boosts to treble and bass , you can get the same and better with any eq app.

Hi all,
The HTC One X has a beautiful feature that filters out all frequencies above roughly 7-8 kHz.
Great. I need those frequencies, because I'm recording high pitched sounds -- well in the range of the microphone though.
Is there a way to disable the noise cancelling feature? I saw this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=700958
but setting media.a1026.enableA1026=1 to 0 doesn't do the trick for me (not to mention that media.a1026.enableA1026 wasn't set at all).
With the HTC One S and pretty much any other phone I tested (Galaxy SIII, Galaxy Tab 7, Galaxy Mini), including the iPhone, I can detect those frequencies. The HTC One X is the only one using this trick.
Many thanks for your help,

S3
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9300 mit Tapatalk 2
I own a one x, two guys here in the office have the S3.
IMO:-
The one x looks nicer than the S3
The S3 equals, or beats, the one x on most (but not all) specifications
The S3 has better battery life, a replaceable battery, and an SD slot, the one x does not.
The S3 has much better audio quality - the one x is awful.
The S3 has a much more active developer community - there are more s3's out there, and there are no issues with s-on/s-off - you can pretty much do what you want to an S3.
Samsung seem faster at getting new roms out for the S3 than HTC do for the one x, and they leak a lot of roms during the development process.
Despite all that, I got the one x because it was basically half the price of the s3
If the costs had been the same, I probably would have got the S3.
Based on your requirements, regretfully, I must say S III. :crying::crying::crying:
But, in terms of usability, charm and charisma - HOX is way better choice.:laugh::laugh:
Ask yourself - would you like to be like everyone else, having the same phone like thousands of others?
Seriously, your question is difficult to answer. HOX owners will say one thing, and S III owners the other. It's like choosing between Mercedes "E" Class, and BMW 5 Series. Both are top of the line, it's the personal taste that makes the difference.
I know this doesn't help, but I felt like saying it.

I know many HOX users who said they would have maybe went for the S3 afterall. I agree on many things you said though. I possibly would have went for an s3 as well if i knew all this about htc.
But they had a good reputation in the desire days and i thought why not give them a try? Right now i'm at the point where i realised how much this phone doesn't surprise me, i don't care about scratches, i don't care if i drop it frontal, i just don't care. It's my last htc device anyway but i can just try to "enjoy" it while it lasts.
edit: personally i even have my doubts about jelly bean running the way jelly bean should run with sense. Today i flashed a sense ui again, while nice, after nearly over 1 week on jelly bean i realise how laggy sense ui on 2.17 is. It's incredible.
going to switch back to aokp or aosp jelly bean rom when i can be bothered
I've owned my One X since April, it's been great. Thankfully no wifi problems and the camera is ok / pretty good. I've rooted it and installed all the available sense roms, I've come back to ARHD as I like the "stock look". Sadly my Cid is VodaP001 (or something similar) so I can't load the leaked Jelly Bean Roms. Seeming I'm stuck waiting for Vodafone to release a Rom based on Jelly Bean so I can update the Hboot officially. This annoys me, other phones (nexus mainly and Nokias) you can either flash whatever you like or amend IDs as in the Nokia to load non carrier firmware. Even the One S (I think) can have it's Cid amended. Strikes me as odd the way HTC have locked the HTC One X a little too much for my liking. I'm on the brink of getting an S3 and maybe putting the One X on Ebay. Sadly though I do like Sense 4 and I like the camera...not sure I like Touchwiz though...S3's can be bought for £360 new from DigitalRev, One Xs seem to fetch £250 on Ebay, I might bite the bullet and sell it...Oh and I'll miss the One X build quality...that's my thoughts....
Htc one X world best Phone A++++++++++

I am sorry for my post , and please delete this
Go for one x+
If price is matter to you, than go for one x. - one x has best screen ever made for mobile device - that means a lot to me
- audio is better on s3 but if you are not audiophile and listening to normal mp3 music, you won't noticed it - much more, because of beats eq it sounds more bassy and louder (for amateur listener better than s3)
- a bit better battery on s3
- touchwiz can't compare to sense, if you are going to flash aosp, you better wait for nexus

1 - ok I am with you on that
2-better battery life ,yes 17% battery drain in 40 minutes 1:30 on screen time( my 1 week experment with the s3 ) ( if this is a better battery life ) than you dont know what your talking about
3- better audio, ok, but one x is awfull, then again you have no idea what you are talking about, and s3 is not that good too.
4 - more active development community :what: , are you kooding me, people buy htc phones for the xda development Community , and if you remember cyanogenmod said no more official cm on the s3 and more developers are doing like him, samsung are ****ng them.
5- faster rom , are you living under a rock or something, htc were always the first one to update there devices, last time I checked, both the one x and the s3 is getting jb at the same time or at least 1 week difference , and leakung alote of roms , the s3 had 3 leaked jb builds in one week .

HOX vs S3? Of course S3. No questions there. Anyway check if you can get X+. It's what original HOX should have been. It can definitely compete with S3.

Totally agree, if u can afford it get the one X+. otherwise just get the regular one x,
yes, on the specsheet the S3 looks better, but in daily use I really prefer the one X.
the main thing on a high end smartphone is the screen, it's the thing you constantly stare at, so you want it to be good. And the screen on the s3 is ok, but no more than just ok. it's bright enough but the over saturated colours really bother me. and that's the great thing about the one X, the screen is just soo amazing. plus touchwiz is probably the worst user interface ever made, in no comparison to sense
