Boost Evo 4g - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm just about done with my Verizon contract looking for a pay as you go phone plan. The boost plan is nice but not until now were there any attractive phones. They're advertising they have a Evo phone. Which ive always loved but could never being in Verizon. Is the Evo on Boost the same phone as the sprint model. If so then I can root and use all of the same roms kernels mods etc. If not then that's a bummer
Thanks

You didn't request anything you need help with.
Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T are not compatible with the Verizon CDMA phones so you won't be able to use your Verizon Incredible on their networks. AT&T and T-Mobile are GSM networks. Sprint I believe uses a different bandwidth than Verizon besides their old PCS network being incompatible. This is why you only see threads for how to use Verizon smartphones on Cricket and Boost mobile. W
When my first Verizon Eris died it was going to be a week before I could get a new phone so I called Verizon to see if I could activate my old Sprint Motorola Krzr as both companies sold them. Verizon can activate old phones from other companies, they verified this when I called, but unfortunately Sprint phones aren't ones they could activate.
@slim I did but will help you understand. I need to switch carriers and would like to see what people use and like to offer me suggestions on what company and phone to get. That's what I wanted to know lol

Well, I'd say to go with Sprint, as they are pretty much the only carrier left to offer truly unlimited data without throttling (although that probably won't be for long). They have some nice HTC phones over there like the Evo 3D, Evo Shift 4G, etc.

I mow through between 10 and 20 gig a month on my phone and I've NEVER been throttled on either the dInc or Tbolt I'm using. The last Sprint rep I spoke with 3 days ago made no attempt to hide Sprint's data throttling policy. I'm not sure where you heard that wasn't the case.
Concerning the OP's post, Sprint has consistently brought cream of the crop Android devices to the table. The primary reason the dInc garnered the dev community that it did was because the EVO 4G is nearly identical under the glass. Sprint has announced a transition away from WiMax for 4G in favor of LTE. When it appears they're making dramatically more headway on that front than they ever did with WiMax, I'll likely switch. I wouldn't be a customer of AT&T if they paid me. Or T-Mobile. I mean, unlimited 20-30 Mbit LTE in my pocket for $40 a month... you can't beat that with a stick!
OP the best way for you to decide is to look at each providers coverage in your area then go with the one with the best coverage. If they all have equal coverage then go with the one that offers the best plan that fits your needs/budget.
ew. I switched from Sprint to Verizon and don't regret a thing. I didn't have a bank account and couldn't get one until I paid off some debts and regardless of this, I was charged $4.99 every bill for NOT using their automated payment crap. on top of this, my plan originally was 69.99 for unlimited data, text, and maybe 450ish minutes. out of nowhere, random surcharges kept getting added to my bill and it got to the point where I was paying $102 because they added $30+ surcharges and taxes onto my account. I also never had good reception. really think going to Sprint is a bad idea.
if you are switching so that you can pay less, I can recommend that you go to Verizon and ask if your employer makes you qualified for a discount on your bill or (if you attend a college) see if you can use that. I get up to 17% off my bill and since I was grandfathered in with the old data plan, I pay only $47 a month for my phone bill with unlimited data+text.
I would also recommend sprint but wait until a better phone than the 3d come our since like the Htc evo soon after it came out the shift came out and now the 3d so that could mean that theres another one coming out with better specs... I personally was thinking on swtching to T-mobile and get the Thc Sensation but like "computerwiz908" I dont like the idea of getting rip with throttling..... Also if you decide let us know what you got...

Well take note you're asking a bunch of Verizon users.
Sprint is the best company out of the bunch as far as price but it depends on what type of reception you get where you're at. Sprint also has a nice selection of android phones, and if you like the INC then sprint has the EVO line of phones that are sort cousins to our phone- I actually like them better than the INC and INC2.
If you're switching to Sprint, you could get the Photon 4g. They're unlocking bootloaders now. The Photon 4g seems like a better upgrade to the Evo 4g rather than the Evo 3D. (Kickstand?!)

Keep your DInc and switch to Pageplus. Their service is over the Verizon network, but costs a lot less. You get the superior coverage of Verizon's network, without the add-on fees. Search "pageplus" for more detailed posts on this.
DInc with CyanogenMod 6.1 & Invisiblek #28 kernel.

yeah I used 30GB last month, I'd rather pay $60 on verizon than 3,000$ there lol
Looks like a good deal as long as you don't use data
I think ill stick with the Dinc for a bit I'm thing of switching carriers bcuz of horrible data coverage where I live.. but I'm moving at the end of September so I think ill tuff it out I saw that there is a chineese phone coming unlocked with the choice of 16gb dual core or a 32gb ver. With 4 cores which sounds tasty to me!! But .. from what I understand it can't be used on Verizon .. so I might switch to a carrier that allows similar cards and works on GSM not CDMA

No way id switch from verizon here in the midwest. Excellent service out in the sticks.
If ive helped you, please hit the damn thanks button!
Donny in Traverse City Mi I average about 1 - 2 bars ... lol
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
Im always about 1-2 bars, but thats even out of town where tmobile, sprint, and att get zero signal, atleast in kansas and oklahoma. I rarely get 4 bars. Coverage area more important to me than a smaller high signal area.

Yeah having full bars doesn't do much. You don't get faster rates and the quality isn't lower, if you have 1 bar or less is the only reason you should worry about slowdowns and possible dropped calls.
Honestly I've never had 0 signal except while on a plane in high altitude or underground / tunnel. I live in VA and traveled out to California, went out to a rather remote lake and still got very nice 1x coverage, although 3G was very weak- it went in an out. Still good considering how far out it was and how there was practically nobody for miles and it wasn't near any interstates.

Hi guys and girls

Just wanted to introduce myself i just switched from sprint coming from a motorola photon and i am currently enjoying my new galaxy s2 and look forward to helping out as much as i can and just getting to know u all.

Welcome to the SGS2 community!

Did you switched from Sprint to TMO. Sprint also has the S2 and as per the feedbacks and posts, sprint version does not have the screen issue. What made you to choose the TMO version of S2 over the Sprint version?

Probably the better network. sprints network sucks

I tried comparing my GS2 with my friend's sprint one, and there was no difference on 40% brightness in a well lighted room, also the sprint one had slow-as-hell 3g speeds and a weird feeling on the back cover.
The network sucks and the price is cheaper with my family plan on tmobiles value family plan.
So far i havent noticed any screen issues knock on wood but coming from the photon which has the pentile screen im sure i would be able to see thru this issue.
I made the switch from Tmobile to Sprint about a year ago and then paid cancellation fees to come back. Sprint sucks. Welcome by the way!!

Welcome! i switched from sprint as well. CDMA sucks
Honestly having unlimited data is not worth it if its so slow and my 4g works ok but i must stay in one place and outside and that can be pretty frustrating.
Welcome to the club. And I agree, Sprint's data is pathetic. I have an Evo View on Sprint & I dread not having wifi. Their 3G is barely faster than edge, I dunno how they even get away with calling it 3G. I have yet to break 1mbps anywhere I've gone.

[Q] Your experience from Sprint to Boost Mobile or Verizon or T-mobile 4G

Since contract is up soon thinking of 2 options:
1) Move to my EVO and my wife's Hero to Boost Mobile ( preferred choise because of potential savings)
2) Go to Verizon pay a little more and get 4G everywhere I go in NY and LI (more expensive + I need to buy 2 new phones)
AT&T is garbage, garbage, garbage in time square, I had iphone 3G before EVO.
What has your experience been moving to Boost Mobile?
Do you get reliable text and 3G and calls as you did on Sprint?
Do you have have to debug issues every other week.
I'm looking for reliable and stable since the wife goes nuts if texting does not work.
I got nuts when 3G does not work?
What has been your user experience from Sprint to Boost Mobile?
or any other carrier for that matter?
Thanks in advance.
Boost is sprint owned and runs on sprints network....except no roaming on boost.

Thanks, that is a big point for me to consider. Since I do use Roaming once I enter the LIRR tunnel to the city.

Boost Mobile 4g Question?

Hey do you guys think may 31 when boost comes out with 4g and the HTC Design 4g i will have to switch phones because i flash my HTC EVO 4g to boost awhile ago. Or do you guys think it will just become part of a plan and just wait till someone post then 4g APN like how you used to get 4g by going in EPST and change sprint to clear-wmx.net???????????????????
No 4G settings are unique not universal.
People may use 4G profiles from the EVO Design to get 4G on OG EVOs because of the amount of ROMs the OG EVO has compared to the few ROMs the EVO Design has.
So what your saying is im going to probably have to get the HTC Design to get 4g on boost
You will absolutely need to get a Design to get 4G.
Similar to how a 3G enabled boost donor phone is required to get 3G on a boosted EVO.
The dude at boost mobile sated 4G is coming to the og soon he said. I live in west palm beach Florida so it may be different but less than 58days its coming.

If u have hspa+ coverage (like Tmo) get Simple Mobile. Unlock & use any compat phone. I'm friggin loving it. Dumping VZ was a great day lol. I found u don't even have to unlock a Tmo phone. Just put in the APN for SM and ur good. Love it! I unlocked the doubleshot anyway tho

Sprint branded EVO Design 4G on Boost Mobile?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I didn't know if anyone knew if you could take a Sprint branded EVO Design 4G phone and put it on Boost Mobile. I wasn't sure if they had some database of what ESN's are Sprint EVO Design's and what are Boost Mobile EVO Design's.. does anyone know? If so, if the Sprint EVO Design has a bad ESN on Sprint, would they activate it?
Yes interested in this as well.
I have an evo 4G and was wondering if you can just call boost when your term is over.
Would love to save the hassle of 'donor' phones and related processes.
message me for detaill i know he can do mostly any sprint phone
im currently running gs2 epic on boostmobile i can even say i get better 3g loll
also w 4g
I tried to call boost mobile customer care and activate an EVO 4g(not the design 4g) and all 4 times the took the DEC then told me that they are aware that people want to activate sprint phones on the boost network but an not compatible. (which isnt true) I told them that it was the new EVO design 4g and one time i told them it was a sprint branded phone evo.
chodey big balls
I am also interested in how to get sprint evo to boost mobile.
