2 foot wifi range with brand new Galaxy Nexus - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So i picked up a Galaxy Nexus, was brand new (almost, package was opened but never used, checked the UPtime on the battery was only mins..) anyway. im and pretty certain it wasnt hacked or anything. it was just someone trying to sell their new free phone from a contract. model number i9250m
So i brought it to my GF's house, where i have never had any wifi issues, it would show normal good bars, connect and then get the IP.. internet would work fine, then all of a sudden, nothing.. turning Wifi on/off again, would sometimes allowe it to reset, but still, nothing more than 20 seconds... when i would use it in the bathroom (router is in the landlords on the other side of the wall.) it would work fine. No other devices in the house would give any issues over wifi...
SInce it was only 4.0.2 i though i would upgrade.. so i tried the nightly build cyanogen mod rom, cm-9-20120602-NIGHTLY-maguro-signed.zip still the same issue, even at my house, nothing, unless im 2 feet from the router.. 4-10 feet and a wall, no luck at all.
after some reasearch, they said change it to 5.0 ghz from 2.4, using one or the other didnt really change anything, (i think 5.0 didnt even work) i installed wifi analiser, here is what it is showing

with this reception, wifi only works from 4 feet. and is not that stable.. when it is connecting, it is super fast, but not consistant at all.
I have changed teh channel from 6 to 11, since wifi analizer said it was a better one..
I am using AWS (wind mobilicity) network. ANyone have any input or help?
thanks

i just replaced my new gnex for the very reason you stated. the phone also got very warm while charging and took grainy pictures.
so far the replacement is doing all 3 things much better.
i would suggest trying to get a replacement.

the funniest thing, i have 2 boxes (internet with built in router) and a seperate linksys, (used as a switch) i just disabled wif on the switch and everything works! that doesn really explain the problem at my g/fs house,
this was weird, because i was hacing the same issue with my Nexus S and an Ipad.. hopefully i dont have a faulty Wifi.. thanks for the help..

That's weird. You have super strong signal. I don't know why it isn't working. Haven't seen many posts about this issue.

If your device is getting bad reception...

You need to exchange it asap. It's as simple as that, you have a bad unit. A software patch or anything else isn't really going to help you. So save yourself some headache and just call up Verizon. Tests have been done (on working units) that show the nexus gets similar or even better connections compared to Verizon's other offerings.
I tested this myself vs my fiance's Droid 3. She showed more bars than I but I had a better download speed and slightly lower db. Both on 3G. To be more conclusive, she had four bars while I had NONE and similar db.
The only thing Verizon is going to do is make our bars show like the Droid 3 and other phones such as the RAZR. So exchange until you get a working unit, we really can't help you. That is all.

You just verified that Verizon is doing the right thing. It's not the bars that matter it's the db. If you are getting similar db then you are getting the same signal strength regardless of whether it shows 1 or 4 bars.
I think this is what I'm going to do. I only have until next Thursday to return the phone since I bought my Gnex from a non-corporate store so tomorrow I'm going to take my re-locked nexus back and exchange for another. If that one still sucks in the reception department, I guess I'm getting a Razr.
Added pictures of what a working device should be getting for more evidence that this isn't everyone's problem.

Already switched out my device once and it is having the exact same problem. So I have 2 brand new phones and the first one worked great for a couple days and then they had their nationwide outage. I kind of doubt Verizon will keep switching phones until they find a working one...if indeed that is the problem. I figured if it was a phone defect that new sites would be all over this.
What is considered a good signal strength reading? Mine has varied from -80 to -110 at times.
Between -85 and -75 is considered excellent.

HOLY crap, my battery sucks! Why??

Hey fellow GNex'ers!
I'm currently running CM10.2 on my Sprint GNex. I just pulled my phone off the charger, set it in my car, drove home from work (for lunch), then back to work. Once I got to work (hadn't even turned the screen on since I unplugged it), I checked the battery: 88%. Now, not even 70 minutes later it's reading 82%, a loss of 6% with no texts, no screen on, no notifications, and my 3g is 3 bars, which is pretty good for where I am (and the fact that there are no notifications / data usage).
Can anyone explain what it could be killing my battery? I'll post the betterbattstats screens later (when I get back out to my car), but for the rest of the afternoon I'm going to leave it there so I can get a better idea of what's killing the battery. I'm so sick of my battery draining when I'm not even touching it!
My wife's GNex did practically the same thing this morning. Her phone died in about 5 hours, but she turned the phone off about an hour after turning it on... She's running stock 4.1.2
Edit: Lost 2% in 11 minutes, so we'll round it up to 1% per 6 minutes right now...
do you not have LTE available in your area? if not, thats your problem.

I do have LTE in my area, but I've noticed LTE takes up even more power than 3g. However, my work is at an Army post, and since the towers aren't located on the post itself, it's kind of rare for me to have a solid LTE signal. I don't make any attempts to change the way Android decides which to use though, because I find that it's fairly intelligent about switching from LTE to 3g when LTE gets low, and vice-versa.

So these are images showing that I lost 30% battery while only using the screen for 12 minutes... That's just ridiculous!

[Q] Constantly losing network connection

Let me preface this by saying this phone was damaged. I had to replace the digitizer.
I just started using this, and flashed Pacman's latest nightly on the phone before getting my SIM, so I can't confirm or deny whether or not this works on stock. That would open up another question entirely.
My phone is completely losing all connection to the AT&T network almost anywhere indoors, and in a lot of places outdoors. I do however get complete, fully functioning connectivity in some locations.
For example I picked up my SIM from the AT&T store today, had no connection inside the store. Went outside and immediately got LTE connectivity, placed a call. After driving across the street to eat the connection completely dropped again. It returned as I got close to my job's office, stayed at full strength and then dropped off again once I went inside the building.
It did not return at any point while I was inside the building. After leaving it regained its full strength and remained at full strength, including through a speedtest, until I came inside my apartment. It has not come back since, including when I went out into the parking lot, where it previously had a strong connection.
This makes no sense to me whatsoever.
Went back to stock, so disregard the earlier part of my post about not knowing the best way to do that. I'm on raw 4.1.1 now. Still have the same issue. This is the phone status page.

No, I reverted all the way back to the original shipped build, 4.1.1.
I was using the latest baseband though when I had AOSP on there. Both did same thing.
A few observations since my first two posts. The signal strength does change of course.
Going near windows in my apartment makes the DBM go into the -90s and the asu go anywhere from 2 to 8. If the asu goes above 10 I get 3G and brief connectivity. Yet to see what the signal strength is on full LTE.
Anywhere in my apartment with no connectivity though is between -110 and -115 dbm, all with 0 asu.

Horrible GPS

I use Google maps almost everyday.. And my GPS either won't lock or it drops all the time.. I try rebooting my phone.. I tried changing roms.. Nothing helps.. I tried TW Roms and ASOP roms.. I tried in the city and in the country.. I even tried out of state.. And I get the same issue.. Right now I'm using pacman rom.. And on NB4 baseband.. Please help
First off, switch back to TW.
Odin the stock 4.4.2 and root it. Then try an alp like TopNT.
If that doesn't work could be the internal antennae in your phone, especially if you dropped it
Thanks.. I'll try that when I get home.
Also check the link in my sig for resetting the nvram. It's been known to work for many people.

I even tried replacing the device.. nope its HORRIBLE in the new device as well, my Note 1 locks so quickly, note 3 is crap.
This worked for me...
I've been frustrated by this too as I use my Note 3 in my car as a navigation device; I even have a charging cradle for it. Tried all sorts of apps (including TopNT) and suggested kludges for it to no avail. I searched YouTube one day for 'Note 3 GPS' and tried this. It has dramatically improved the GPS' performance:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hC8jNb38gaY
The litmus test for me was how well it worked overseas. I regularly travel internationally and was frustrated by the phone's poor performance in a place like, say, Hong Kong. It took forever to obtain an initial position lock there. Now it locks relatively quickly as long as it has a clear shot at the GPS constellation and maintains the lock well enough to be useful while walking around there. At home it finds itself almost as quickly as my other device ( a Note 8.0) or my previous phones (an international S4 or an AT&T S2 Skyrocket). It used to be a little drifty in the car even after it had a solid lock; now it doesn't display that behavior either. It's worth a try. I hope that you find this useful!

Question WiFi and Bluetooth interference

I recently bough a Redmi Note 12 4G from a carrier here in Colombia. The phone works pretty well but in this two last days has come to my attention a possible bug with the 2.4Ghz band. I use a pair of Vivo wireless earpods. but whenever i have the bluetooth activated, the WiFi signal seems to be obstructed or completely deactivated. When enter the WiFi list there is no a single network to choose, and what I have to do? deactivate Bluetooth and activate airplane mode, then deactivate the airplane mode and reactivate the wifi. Then the networks appears and i can connect to Wifi.
Im running MIUI 14.0.7 Global
I have the 4GB ram model with 3GB extra using the internal storage. I checked for 2.4ghz band interference but it happens anywhere i go, on my office or my house. Also try rebooting the phone multiple times but this problem is present. It not happens always btw, in this momento the phone is working well with both activated, but in the day it happens may be 4 o 5 times.
I have not touched the firmware of the phone, neither installed a rom or flash anything, its brand new and from factory.
I'm thinking of returning it if this problem continues.
Maybe you guys have an idea of what can cause this.
I guess it's the problem of the Bluetoothâ„¢ Standard because they share similar frequencies.
The closest thing you can probably do is to get an 5GHz router, turn off Wi-Fi all together or change your AP's channel to a less-crowded one
(TP-Link advises channel 1, 6 or 11 in case of interference, it might work ..temporarily)
I've had multiple Xiaomi phones and they all had this problem, let me know if you found better solution!
Something similar happens to me, when I try to use bluetooth with a keyboard and a mouse, both types of wifi (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz) download speeds drop a lot and it becomes unusable in my case since I need a good signal to be able to use a streaming service in the cloud.
Also thinking about apply the warranty (I bought it from a local seller with a 1-month warranty) and looking for another better device and clearly not Redmi or Xiaomi.
I will leave two images demonstrating what I have mentioned:
